What a pleasant surprise was to stop at this small town Italian restaurant! Great pizza and great service. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We ordered two 8" individual pizzas. I had the Greek and my friend the margarita. They were both amazing! Fresh ingredients and tasty crust. We also ordered the zeppole "little Italian filled donuts", and they were really good. We had 6 filled with Nutella and 6 lemon. I loved the area and this is for sure a place that I will be visiting again when in town. read more

Classic red sauce joint menu, which got us excited. They even have cannolis and soups. Big disappointment, though. I probably would have given them 3 stars had they at least served our food in courses instead of everything brought out at once (including the salad and soup and entrees). However, I think the issues here are easily fixed so I hope the owners are open to some constructive criticism. I would like to return if it gets better. First the pros: terrific minestrone soup with fresh vegetables and herbs. They have a good housemade Italian salad dressing (very flavorful and good balance of acid and seasoning) and they have fresh toppings on the pizza. The cannoli was great - crispy shell and nicely flavored filling. Now the cons: limp warm salad greens (like they had been sitting under a heat lamp), wimpy bits of smushed flavorless garlic bread, overcooked spaghetti, boring marinara sauce that tasted like tomato paste and boring pizza dough. Add some salt to the dough! It's a boring pizza despite fresh toppings- and the cheap parmesan packets don't help. The service brings all the food out at once when dining in so you're dealing with soup and salad along with your pizza and spaghetti. Dining in is NOT the same as takeout. I will say that dipping the pizza into the house Italian dressing was a huge improvement for the pizza. That dressing rocks. Service is friendly but very slow so don't go if you're in a hurry. They do a big takeout business so you may not realize how many orders are ahead of you. Very clean facility and kept in good repair, nice restrooms. You can BYOB, too. Glad we stumbled on this little gem on our annual river trip. Our big group ordered pizzas, calzones, and pasta so had a taste of a lot on the menu. The food is really good. Service i a bit slow - it's counter service, which was nice not to have to wait for someone to take our order. But the food took a bit long to get to us, and the main courses didn't come all at the same time. Even though - think the food makes up for the wait. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't what I'd hoped it would be. The Alfredo sauce left a lot to be desired. It had partially separated, like it had been reheated in a microwave. The pasta was cooked well, but lacked flavor. The $5.95 kid's Fettuccine Alfredo portion appeared to have the same quantity as the $10.99 adult portion. The meatballs looked frozen to me on the kid's spaghetti with meatballs. The service wasn't bad, but wasn't anything noteworthy. The location is super clean and the AC works, which is huge plus. I mean, there's really not many options in Leakey when it comes to dining on a Sunday afternoon. Ended up here because everything else in town was pretty much closed, and we were ravenous. Your choices are pretty scant. It's pizza, spaghetti, or lasagna plus a few other items . I ended up with lasagna. It tasted like something out of a frozen dinner. The salad was literally just mixed greens with dressing. Literally the tastiest thing on my plate was the garlic bread. It will do in a pinch, and perhaps young eaters would enjoy it. Their pizzas are delicious and we always make sure we eat there when in town!! We love the Vinny's pizza but all their food is good. Our young granddaughter did not like the sauce on the spaghetti but she is use to milder bottled sauce like Ragu. The Italian quaint decor is wine and oil bottles, map of Sicily and old photos. The service is good also and they honor veterans with a discount. Our only frustration is trying to figure out their open hours sometimes, so call before you go! read more

Always delicious food at Vinny's in Leakey. Pizza was top notch; chicken alfredo was yummy, Greek salad was fresh, all three desserts ordered were so very good. We phone in our order and pick up to bring home. Order was complete; each item was well served and still hot when we get to our home. I placed an order online after I called twice. Order was placed at 6:08. The first time I called, an associate answered the phone and said please hold, then it hung up. I called back again and they immediately said please hold. As I was waiting, I decided to look online to see if I could place an order. I did place online and ended the phone call. I was given a 20 minute time until my order was ready. I came into the restaurant 20 mins later and was told my order was placed at the same time they received an order from inside the building. My pizza had not even been put in to cook yet. The guy pulled my order from offline and it was printed at the machine as I was standing there. I was told my pizza was being put in the oven and it would take 5 minutes. (I've worked at a pizza place and knew the pizza would take longer than 5 mins.) I ended up waiting 30 more minutes. Updated 8/14/21. Got to go back again yesterday and just as great as it was our first time. Got to meet one of the owners and cannot say enough good things about how great the food is here. This was some of the BEST PIZZA I have had in a long time. So few places can make a real New York style pizza that tastes great and has that wonderful crust that you have to fold to eat. I have never been to Leakey before but was told there was good pizza in town, but didn't expect that! We ordered a 16" and I ate two thirds of it myself, we even had slices leftover for breakfast the next day at our campsite. We are planning a trip to Garner gain in a few weeks and WE WILL BE BACK!!! I come from a real Italian family that has pizzerias in the north east and this is great pizza that would make them proud to server. Sometimes small towns have the best restaurants so we were hoping that would be the case with Vinny's. The food was excellent but unfortunately the service was not. We were not greeted when we entered ( mind you we were the only customers there) the employees were sitting at a table watching the game on tv. Once they saw us they got up and went to the back. Then two women came to the counter and told us we would have to order at the counter. We did , not a smile when we were doing so. Food arrived and was pretty much thrown on the table, and the women gave me a displeased look when I asked her for ranch dressing. The waitress refilled our drinks once then disappeared. This place stays quite busy and well worth the wait. My family and I were in town visiting and even thought they told us the wait could be 40-50 minutes (they were really busy) we knew it must be good. The food is good but the costumer service is absolutely terrible. Two girls were so rude when we were trying to order our food. Once we sat down they brought us our drinks and food and practically threw the pizza on the table. Threw the straws on the table too. They also charge for extra dippings after 1 is given. Vinny's had closed down but as of Spring Break 2013 they re-opened with a limited menu. Pizza/Salads/Sandwiches/Desserts. My husband and I ate in here a few weeks ago and were so happy to get this fresh of a pizza out here in this area. Their salad was nice too, love that Greek dressing! THIS WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE I was a little reluctant to go here because I was concerned my wife would not like it. We were pleasantly surprised. The inside ambiance is simple yet nice for a rural restaurant. The service was great. The owner -- who was clearly busy in the kitchen -- took time to come and speak to us when I had a question. The server was quite friendly and quick with requests. The brushetta was good and the bread was even better. Oh, the bread. So good. We both enjoyed our lasagnas. I also ordered the Vinny's Pizza which was quite good -- thin crust, delicious crust, fresh ingredients, and flavorful. We will definitely go back. Readers please take note: I am a Chicagoan that hates everything about Texas. I have traveled far and wide outside the Uvalde area to find ANYWHERE to get a decent meal. Vinny's has not let me down yet. My mission is to find a decent pizza outside Chicago, only to be let down time and time again. Uvalde only offers Domino's, Pizza Hut or Little Cesar's. These pizzas are not fit to be served to a Chupacabera. While I want to compare Vinny's to a Chicago joint, I can't. It would not be fair. Vinny's would not even rate 1 star if it moved to the real world. So to the best of my opinionated taste I will give it three stars based only on the local dining options. They seem to try to make decent food. I would go so far as to say it might be the best pizza in Texas. (That's kind of like having the best complection at a leper colony). The pizza is fresh, hot and service has always been friendly and prompt. This is the first time I have given a 3 star rating to a place I'd never eat at if I had more options. Where do the fresh ingredients come from? I don't know. I thought Leakey only harvested cedar, rocks and Southern Baptists. read more

So we went to Lost Maples to a cabin for the weekend. It was fun, but cabins aren't much for cooking, and cabin is about as camping as I get, so...after one night with Digiorno we were ready for a change. The only establishments in Vanderpool are the corner store and...the corner store which also functions as a gas station as in the owner keeps a 50 gallon drum filled with gasoline there. I like to think it is for cars...but I still wouldn't fill my tank out of it. I digress. Vanderpool has no restaurants. So our nearest option, according to our hosts at the cabin, was in Leakey at Vinny's. 20 mile drive. I'd driven a while out here and I didn't feel like driving again, but I did. And, you know, there are drives in your life you will not regret taking. The drive between Vanderpool and Leakey at sunset will be one of them. By far the prettiest drive I've taken in Texas, possibly the prettiest drive I've taken in my life. I digress again. Vinny's was really good. Its some of the best italian food I've had in Central TX and while that isn't saying a ton, it was pretty darn good. We had the manicotti and the chicken carcofi. It was pretty excellent. The pasta seems homeade. The prices are a tad high for plastic fruit and vinyl checkered tablecloths, but all in all...I'd go back. From Vanderpool anyway. read more

My friends and I spent the weekend in Concan and moseyed to this little gem for some yummy Italian food. The service was prompt, the waitress gave me a toothache, and the pizza was delicious. I spend a lot of time on the road (by my own accord), and stumble across a few tolerable places to eat. Vinny's is one. This place was a welcome surprise! Decided to get some dinner-date outside of Concan after a few days on the river, and debated between going to Uvalde or Leaky. We chose to take a chance on Leaky and Vinny's pizzeria... BEST CHOICE EVER. This pizza is home made, fresh, so hot the cheese stretches as you pull off your piece, and just all around delicious. I am from Austin and would put it up against any of the pizzerias there (yes even Homeslice, ya South Congress Hipster.) If you are tubing the Frio and thinking pizza sounds good, MAKE THE DRIVE TO VINNY'S! Loved them and I'm sure you will too! (We had 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 tomato, mushroom, black olive. DELICIOUS. If they are busy forget it. They do not want your business if they are busy. Owner & wife were very rude as if doing you a favor. So good! Had the Vinny's pizza and a Greek salad with a nice side of conversation with Sal, the owner. The toppings were generous... And ask for a side of marinara. It's Sal's family recipe and awesome. Food is 5 stars, service is 4. Only one waitress for the room and almost every table (10) had people. First they seated us at a "reserved" table, but then another employee came along and moved us, telling us "that table is reserved." Yeah we noticed that.... Service was a bit slow, but that was expected considering they were super busy. By the time we ordered, every seat in the place was filled. After a pretty long wait, the food arrived. It was pretty good but nothing to write home about. It tasted really good because we were starving after a day swimming at Garner. I recommend this place, but don't expect exceptional food. We stopped here as the first place on the road. The fact that others were leaving whole pasta dinners uneaten should have warned us. The food was not just bad, it made my husband (who feels he should eat anything he's paid for) SICK. I knew after one bite there was something hinky about the food. The strapping young teens next to us left theirs uneaten too--clues enough for everyone but my husband who had to deal with food poisoning for about 24 hours. My son was savvy enough to leave his dish uneaten as well. $40 for nothing but pain. Sigh. Avoid this place and save your health. I don't know what options are available in this little town, but bringing your own sandwiches would be a better idea than stopping here. read more
