Just wanted to update the review since it's been a year. ****COVID RELATED INFO**** so this place is doing a great job at making sure people are safe as well as the staff here. Now instead of going in the store they have a little drive thru like window where you can purchase whatever you want and get it without having to be near others or in an indoor space. Vinovore is a really cool little wine shop on Hoover with the most esoteric, interesting bottles. I love that they have wines at all price points. You can get a really unique bottle for around $20. I have to say, the wines they choose also look pretty cool so they are very gift-worthy. For some reason staff is not sweet. I'd buy a whole lot more but it always seems like they are bothered coming to the window. And they're impatient. I wonder what their strategy is on this. Come on.... just be sweet! I first chose this place (browsing options from the east coast) because of their beautiful gift boxes with so many great products to fill them with, but was so touched by the extra care I received when I emailed following my order with a delivery request. We went to Bar Keeper to do some last minute holiday shopping, and we were happy to find there was a cute wine shop right next door. We'd been tasked with bringing a couple bottles to Christmas lunch at Matt B.'s aunt's, and Vinovere saved us an extra errand. The store was charming, cheerful and bright, with wine bottles and related home goods attractively arranged from wall to wall. There was a small staff--just two women, I think--and they were friendly and helpful. One of them helped us select two bottles, and the other answered my questions about the shop as we checked out. Vinovere specializes in wines produced by female winemakers (I guess men can be involved, but the standard is that a woman must be high up in the winery to qualify). It's the only store I've ever heard of with this focus, and I found it cool rather than gimmicky. Obviously not the kind of thing that would've been here before people started calling it Hoover Village, but no one said white gentrifiers never had good ideas. The wine selection was extensive, and I liked the other goods, too. We picked up a pretty corkscrew, and I appreciated the display of books written by female authors. I liked Vinovere and would recommend it for all your wine-related needs. I expect I'll come back, especially with Bar Keeper next door. It's a great place to pick up a bottle or two and support some cool women while you're at it. read more

A feminist wine shop! I'm so excited this gem is in the neighborhood. Vinovore curates delicious wines from all over the world from lady winemakers, which is brilliant. I came here because they were hosting an adoption event with MaeDay Rescue. Getting to cuddle puppies and taste wine is pretty much the best way to spend a Saturday. Part of their wine sales was donated to the rescue, so of course we had to pick up a bottle of wine. We grabbed a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from High Valley Vineyard that we had tasted. It was reasonably priced, only $15, and it was delicious. Definitely tasted more expensive, so it's a wonderful value. My husband became enamored with a slingshot with a fox's face on it, so we took that home instead of a puppy (probably for the best). So not only do they have lots of wine, they also have cute gifts. I'll definitely be back to buy more wine and support female winemakers! read more

I was excited to see there was a new wine shop in the neighborhood. However, found that they have a small selection and it was hard to find any wines below $20. I got four wines, all $30. The sparkling wine we tried was not worth $30- was very sweet and with little structure. And I found it elsewhere for half the price. We also tried a Pinot noir, very very light almost like drinking a rose. Their descriptions of the wines- despite being lengthy- don't accurately describe actual wine taste. And just because the wines are hard to find doesn't make them good. Putting a hefty price tag on a plonk wine doesn't make it good either. When I walked in, staff didn't even look at me, eventually saying hello. Nobody came to ask if I needed help or had questions. Yet once you pay there is a tip option. Tip for what, is that a thing now for retail? I get if someone is helpful and/or for wine tasting but for me grabbing a bottle from the cooler and them ringing it up on the cash register? read more

I have supported this store for years, loved ordering pickup and online. Even sport a tote bag of theirs in support of them. The one time I went to shop in person a few years ago for a birthday gift, I was treated pretty rudely. I was super excited to come to the shop in person and greeted the worker with a warm hello! I was not met with a hello and ignored. I asked the female employee for help looking for a particular type of wine and was given a quick up and down glance, clear dismissal of body language, and a casual instruction to look for what type im looking for but they most likely don't have that type of wine. I was kind of shocked that I was not able to be helped but started looking around. While I was looking around another customer came in and the employee immediately went over to them to help them. I was even more shocked and felt completely slighted. I waited until the customer was done being help to physically go up to the female worker to ask again if they carried a type of wine. I got another causal most likely not answer but nothing clear. It felt very clear that this woman was not going to help me. I left in complete shock and disappointment. I supported this store for years thinking their mission was women empowering and supporting other women, but that day all I felt was just another overpriced wine store with a fake agenda and judgmental women. I don't understand what happened and I'm hoping it's an isolated issue with one employee, but the store needs to make their employees understand that if that is really their mission statement and not just a front fake for marketing, that everyone needs to leave their agenda at the door and support each other while on the clock. If I knew I was going to walk into this type of situation I would have gone to BevMo. read more

I came in here looking for a particular producer they ended up not having but had a wonderful chat with the owner who recommended another bottle that I bought and loved. They only sell wine made by women winemakers! What an awesome concept. I will definitely be back here. Feminist wine shop FTW. It's been interesting to see all the changes on this little stretch of Hoover. Now having been to Vinovore, I think it's my favorite new edition. Stopped in here yesterday to pick up a bottle of wine for my friend's b-day. She likes a red that'll punch you in the face, and thanks to Vinovore's cleverly-worded descriptions, I felt confident that I'd found a winner: a wine from Uruguay described as a "broody weirdo." I also picked up a four-pack of Tin City's Poly Dolly Cider, a blend of cider and rosé that comes in a delightfully pink can (so basic, I know). I'm ready to dub this the Drink of Summer 2018. Love the fact that most (if not all?) of the wine they sell is from women winemakers. Makes shopping here just a little bit more special, and worth the extra coin that you'd save getting wine at Trader Joe's. Plus, I don't even need to get in my car (bonus!). read more

Everything always sounds so amazing, I'm perpetually afraid of having wine FOMO. Thanks to the amazing team there, they are always so quick to help me make those impossible decisions. The store's website was helpful. I had to use it while I was in the store to figure out which wine would be best for me. The two sales people in the store offered NO help to me at all. I had to go back and forth looking up the wines on my phone for at least 20 minutes while they stood behind the counter talking to each other. When I entered the store a customer was getting 1 on 1 attention. I got excited. Unfortunately, once she left I received zero attention and I was the only customer in the entire store. I started out just buying a bottle here or a bottle there, but after being overly delighted with every single pick the owner suggested, I decided to face reality and became a yearly wine club member. I'm so so glad I did! There's something subtly different about all the wines coming from only female winemakers and the prices here are so affordable. No more wine shopping at Trader Joes for me--ever again! Their in-store tastings with these incredible women winemakers are so much fun and such a unique and special experience. I feel like I'm in my own version of Chef's Table by the inspiration I get from these winemakers and hearing their personal stories. Why would I want to spend a Tuesday night any other way?
