    More signed books!
    Emma H.

I have been traveling to different cities throughout the US. I am stopping by vintage bookstores every chance I get. I have to say, this store is well stocked and well organized! The prices are fair too. Check out the signed books section!

There's books on just about everything here. I mean that seriously you can Google or you can walk around and find it yourself.

What was the first book you ever remember reading all the way through by yourself? Mine was Grover the monster at the end of the book by Golden books for children I remember being afraid that there was a monster under my bed but once I read the book poof that was gone. I left Grover in Sesame Street, and there was something really cool about holding a book just like my mom and dad did and reading all by myself. I'm a firm believer that the ability to read is a gift that we should treasure and whether it's on a tablet or phone a computer or in a book we are privileged, it would be great if the whole world was as lucky as we are. But in the few days of horrible weather that we have been without power, I have been twice blessed to know that I had candles, a warm, blanket, and a lovely place to grow up and continue reading books that did not require anything, but the basics that I had around me. This bookstore has been an icon to this town having special events and honoring local writers among many other things with you write or read or both this is a place to be. It's much more fun than the library and you don't have to worry about return fees. Plus if you have books that you're done writing you can turn them in for credit to go towards books that you want. It's a win-win situation I support the lovely local business. It is in chanting and fun.

    Wear your mask!

I love Vintage so much. The booksellers are incredibly helpful and kind. They are my safe place, even in a global pandemic. They're a local bookstore, so of course if you're buying new books - you're not going to get Am*zon prices... but you will be able to sleep better knowing that you're shopping ethically and a supporting local businesses. They have an awesome new-book point reward system that really adds up. Plus their trade-in for store credit is amazing! In the time of COVID, you are required to wear a mask. We are 10 months in, this is not new news. If you're unable to wear a mask, they offer a wonderful curbside pickup service and low-rate shipping! So please respect these business in wearing your mask. C'mon. I couldn't recommend Vintage Books more. Go find your safe space within these stacks and stories too!

This place doesn't respond to email inquiries or answer their phone. They obviously have no concerns about customer courtesy. Don't bother.

As I planned out my Portland trip I had determined to go to Windows Bookseller and my visit to this bookstore exceeded my expectations. As I understand it, this cozy location is smaller than the Eugene location, but it still has an amazing array of books available, prompting many Solomonic decisions about which books to buy and which ones to leave behind. A few minutes after I arrived and started browsing, I heard Adam recommending Walker Percy to another customer. I knew then that this was a place with good taste in theology books (browsing the literature shelf I noticed a lot of the usual suspects among the "Books & Culture" crowd, including Wendell Berry, Marilynne Robinson, and my favourite, Alice McDermott). There are a lot of theology, biblical studies, philosophy, and history books available at very good prices. Names that leapt out from the shelves included Marva Dawn, Stanley Hauerwas, and Walter Brueggemann. Many of the hardcovers I purchased had laminated covers which I always appreciate. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I left with a box full of books. The next time I visit Portland I am definitely going to prioritize visiting Windows Booksellers again.

My Son led me here last weekend when I was in town. There was lots of notebooks, pens, and other stuff to consider, and having a Kinokuniya membership (10% off) was a bonus. David was more interested in the manga books, and we were happy browsing in our own little corners. We both happily came away with a small collection of treasures and a promise to return. There were lots of folks here, making the aisles a little tight. But checkout moved quickly and efficiently.

The store is much larger than the one in Chicago! So of course there was a much wider selection of goods, including a lot more Alien Stage items (know the teens are a fan of this show). We ended up signing up for the annual membership which gives you 10% off your purchase immediately and you rack up points (who doesn't love points) which will add up to more savings. We purchased a hard to find art book. Service was friendly, and answered all the questions we had on the membership, not rushing us at all to make the decision.

Maps are key to finding anything, sadly no used board games. The kids section is great for how to draw books, love used books stocked next to new. The Burnside location takes up an entire city block and has SO many different sections. There are new and used books, gifts, and basically every genre and random little category you can think of. The different rooms even have their own names, and the whole place feels like a giant book maze. You could easily spend hours just wandering around. I loved browsing through everything. Even when I wasn't looking for anything specific, I kept finding things that caught my attention. The color-coded sections and maps definitely helped because otherwise I probably would have just gotten lost somewhere in the shelves and never been seen again. Definitely one of those Portland places I'd recommend even if you're not a huge book person. It's just really fun to walk around and explore, and I can totally see why Powell's is such an iconic part of Portland.
