My fiancé and I went on Memorial Day for Breakfast at Scott's Family Restaurant in Cedar Rapids. My fiancé ordered the Ultimate Skillet and I ordered Pancakes and Eggs with bacon and an English muffin. We both agreed that our meals tasted pretty good. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. And despite being busy, we got our food pretty quickly and our waiter never let our drinks go empty. Overall, pretty good experience. read more

I can't speak for the evening staff, but came for Sunday morning breakfast about 30 minutes before buffet was supposed to be ready, no big deal. After being sat table that was sat behind us was offered the buffet literally 30 seconds after we order off menu. Our server looked like she came directly from 2 hours of sleep after a bender the night before. Staff were complaining and swearing at each other. Doesn't look like much when you drive by but Scott's serves breakfast buffets on Saturday and Sunday. The buffet has a large variety that can tame any appetite. Good food at good prices. Breakfast is my favorite meal. Stable staff of servers. Feels like family.

There are literally no precautions in place beyond some hand sanitizers placed around the buffet. Servers and customers are touching the juice, the plates, everything. Salt and pepper shakers sitting on the table visibly dirty. Servers and hostesses wear masks under their nose. Never saw one pair of gloves on anyone!! We tried to quietly explain we weren't comfortable with it. The server made a scene and the hostess made us pay for drinks we never touched. We would have preferred to leave quietly but that wasn't an option. I can see why Iowa has an outbreak if this is their standards. Stick with chain restaurants at least they follow corporate guidelines. read more

Thought we'd try this Cedar Rapids family owned restaurant for Sunday breakfast. Don't waste your time! The absolute worst dining experience ever. Dining area filthy, circa 1970 finishes, which wouldn't be bad if it was clean. Seated quickly & waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged. Asked a passing server about coffee & her reply "I'm not your waitress"! Finally someone presented, didn't offer her name, took our order & we didn't see her again. After 35 minutes of waiting for our order & maybe refills on water & coffee, we again asked the passing server what we owed for the coffee, as we are going to leave, & her reply "did she even take your order"? I really like this little spot here. We have gone her 3 different times now. My favorite is the weekend breakfast buffet they have. Everything I have eaten her has been really good. How is it that this place is still in business? Three people at the host station and wasn't acknowledged because they were having a conversation. Seated at a dirty table. Not really a problem, it happens. Server came up and noticed the table. Rather than wipe the table, I was asked who sat me and then they proceeded to reprimand the host that seated me. Formally the Happy Chef that has been a staple on Blairs Ferry for so many years. Still looks the same inside and out. Appears to be about the same menu and mostly geared towards the breakfast/brunch crowd. Swung in to grab a Sat morning buffet. Waitress was nice. Buffet was small, but had good french toast. There was the typical eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, biscuits/gravy, hash, large sausage, home fries, cheezy potatoes, etc. Not much for fresh fruit, salads, etc. Though. I was surprised to see the bill was $8.99 per person and $1.99 for a soda. At this point with their offerings was not worth it to me. Best of luck to them. read more

If you have/had a bad experience here with the waitstaff, I really think that's on you. I go here probably once every two weeks and I've never had a bad experience with waitstaff whatsoever; and the food is always good. This is the kinda place where if you're rude to them, they'll probably return it back to you. Don't like it or have problems being a civil diner? Than you'll probably want to go somewhere else where you can harass the waitstaff and they won't stand up for themselves. Recently visited family in Marion and the hotel food, (sorry Baymont) was less than edible. We met for breakfast and as a previous review stated, Holy Crap this place is good!!. I ordered one of the bowls and my sister and her hubby got an omelet. The potatoes were perfect and ham and eggs were perfect and they know how to use cheese. The family loved the omelet that came with pancakes. The price was right, service was fast and it was conveniently located in NE CR. Next trip to Marion will include a visit to Scott's. read more

I can't comment on the food because we left before we even ordered. Here's how it went on Fathers Day, 2015. My extended family was in town for a few days for a loved ones funeral. Saw 'Scotts', figured "Hey, family restaurant, we'll eat there a few times while in town, it's near our hotel." Came in to near empty establishment, figured it was due to late hour (9:30 on a sunday eve). No one to greet us at hostess counter, but could see someone cleaning tables. She said she'd be right with us, but took her time. Finally she came out, rudely asked how many, than led us to the tables RIGHT NEXT TO THE KITCHEN (restaurant empty, why seat us there?!?). Another waitress came out and asked what we'd like to drink. Noticing the tables were still pretty wet from the wipe down, I asked the waitress if she could bring a towel to dry the tables. Second waitress (the one originally cleaning them, who made us wait), called out "They're NOT wet.". "Yes", I replied, "they are". Waitress brings a small napkin, starts trying to dry partial areas of two tables. I twice ask her for the napkin, or a towel, as she's doing a terrible job at drying the table, but she refuses. Finally, I nicely ask a third time, and she THROWS the little napkin at me, lands on the table. All of my family is stunned at this complete rudeness in such a short time. Btw, we're ALL being polite throughout this ordeal. I suggest we leave to my family, the waitresses walk toward the kitchen. We get up and leave, tell them we're leaving, and they turn and walk away. The ONLY place I've experience worse service was in Miami, which is notorious for terrible customer service. How the heck does Scott's Family Restaurant stay in business? DON'T GO THERE! read more

For many years this was a Happy Chef. I liked their hot turkey sandwich as a kid, but it was basically a breakfast place. I remember eating here with friends many a night after bar closing. It became Scott's, an independently owned single location restaurant, a few years back (they now close at 11:00 p.m. so no more late night breakfasts), but the menu hasn't changed and the place looks the same. The atmosphere is a little more casual than over at Perkins or Village Inn and one generally does not have to wait for a table on Sunday mornings behind the church crowd which is nice. The service is usually decent although we did once have an impatient and somewhat rude waitress, but she was more amusing than anything else so no big deal. A guy who I'm guessing is "Scott" sometimes comes out to visit with patrons which is cool and adds a nice touch (I think this is Scott because he looks like the little cartoon guy in the menu). The food is reasonably priced. I like their Eggs Benedict, but most recently ordered the "Cowboy Breakfast" (3 eggs, hash browns, 2 sausage links, 2 bacon strips, ham, and choice of pancakes or toast) it cost ten dollars, was a decent breakfast, and certainly filled me up for the money. My lone complaint was that the ham slice was thin as was the bacon. I hope they have not switched bacon, they always had the best thick bacon in town; maybe they ran out and had to use some of the thinner bacon that is generally found in the breakfast buffet. Oh yeah, they have a small breakfast buffet which is not that great, but I think it's about nine dollars so you can't really go wrong if you just want to chow down on the standard scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, hash, kielbasa, cubed hash brown fries (the menu hash browns are the shredded which I like better), fruit, cheesy potatoes, juice, etc. Scott's is the standard meeting place for a friend and I who have breakfast together about once a month; we usually sit for a couple hours and catch up with one another. Nothing fancy here, but if you want to roll out of bed and grab breakfast this is the place to go. read more

This WAS my go too place on either Monday or Wednesday nights. The food is usually pretty good as well as the service. Like everywhere, you wear your mask in and take it off to go to your table. Tonite, i was the only customer in the place, and after eating I had to use the rest room. As I walked the 30 feet to the restroom, the waiter confronted me about wearing a mask. I apologized and told him it was in my coat pocket and he rudely acknowleged what I said. As I returned from the redtroom, I noticed the lady cooking had her mask down around her chin and the other man in the kitchen had no mask at all. I know I was wrong but it is pretty hipicritical to call a patron out for no mask when at least 2 of the employees werent eesring them! Like I said, I was the only one in the place and a weekly customer, so they obviously need business. Please practice what you preach. I will find elsewhere to dine. read more

Worst place ever. I would rather give no stars. Thought I would give the buffet a try. Bad idea. Cold bacon soaked in grease and half raw. Cold potatoes. Weird unidentified chunks in the cheesy hash brown stuff. Scrambled eggs resembled school scrambled eggs from when I was a kid and were gross and wet. Overall poor food and cold. Didn't order drinks but the servers never came to check on us to see if everything was good. Thought checking on customers was serving 101. Pancake and french toast bins had almost nothing in them and was cold due to a light out. Gross. Would not recommend ever. Glad I got up early for an upset stomach. read more
