I had a brief stay in Fairfield and had to check out their local record shop. It was way better than expected, like a little slice of New York City cool hidden in beachy Connecticut town. The shop is on the main strip (Post St.) across the street from Hemlock Hardware. It's kind of hard to see if you're just driving by (it's behind a sports trading-cards shop) but well worth finding, because it's the kind of record store that is loaded with both new vinyl and rare, well-selected older vinyl. The records span many genres and the shop's owners have excellent taste and knowledge while also being gracious and fun to talk to. I noticed they host listening parties for new releases, making the store a hub for local music aficionados. I wasn't in Fairfield long but consider Vinyl Street Co. to be a real "hidden gem" that I highly recommend you check out if you're in the area. (After that, be sure to stop in to Fairfield's top-notch public library down the street.) read more

This record store is an absolute hidden gem. My boyfriend and I were searching for a record we *had* to have on record store day and on a whim I called vinyl street cafe and they had it!! Once there, we couldn't believe we haven't been there before. The record store day selection was better than any we'd seen all day. What I like most about this record store is that the owner isn't a pretentious record snob and genuinely tries to help you find what you're looking for. The vinyl selection is very well curated with something for everyone. Support your local record store every day! Small shop with good amount of new and vintage vinyl at good prices. Josh, who runs the joint, is a cool guy, and he knows his music. I got a 1st pressing of The Cult 'Electric' Masterdisk pressing in NM- condition for a better price than I have seen anywhere else, and I also bought a new RTI pressing of Miles Davis 'Kind Of Blue' in mono at a fantastic price. Josh also cut me a deal on a Herbie Hancock LP. Definitely will be back!! read more

Josh, the owner, was super helpful both times that I visited and was super friendly. I love that this record store is an actual cafe, and offers coffee! It's a bit tucked away so you have to look for it, but it's a great place to chill, play some records, and bring some home to add to your own collection :) And he offered to order an album I was looking for which I thought was really great customer service. read more

Great spot, hidden gem! I've been in a few times and had great experiences both times. Josh is very helpful, if he doesn't have what you are looking for, he will order it for you. It's great supporting a local business, he has a wide variety of New and Used, you can also pick up CD's, and turntables. Great place! Being a young guy in college with not a whole lot of money I felt intimidated by the vinyl community , it seemed like an expensive hobby dominated by older "elitists" if you will who seemed snobby about having the best of the best equipment. The owner was very approachable and after realizing I liked hip hop pointed me in the right direction and even showed me his new copy of to pimp a butterfly. I had received my first suitcase player as a gift and was told by a lot of people how I was going to "destroy" my records, when I asked the owner about it he was honest and straightforward with me saying how it wasn't good for my records but it wasn't the end of the world eIther, he pointed out options for me if I wanted to upgrade and put me at ease. Meanwhile a guy that looked about my dads age came in looking for records for his 19 year old son (I'm 20) , we got to talking about music. This experience is what I think I've missed growing up in the digital age of music and what ive been looking for in this hobby , being able to be in one place with people who share the same passion as me. This place certainly fulfilled that desire! Being low on funds I didn't get anything my first time but I will certainly be back and maybe even purchase a new turntable there when I save up. They have records (and CDs, cassettes, and 8-tracks) AND coffee. And it's good coffee, too. They ask what you're looking for the minute you walk in, then chat with you, then let you look around. If you have any questions, they know the answer. They offer to show you things, order things for you, teach you. Great place. Vinyl is here to stay!! I was there for the ribbon cutting ceremony, back in July and have been back a few times a month ever since. The vibe in the store is very laid back, as is Josh, the owner. He is friendly and will go out of his way to help any way he can. Not to mention the great coffee which he offers! The store continues to evolve, each time I go in.
