Visit Date: March 26, 2025 On my way back to the southshore of LI after visiting a friend with my two other friends for lunch in Ridge my friend asked if we could go to Record Stop. I'm familiar with Record Stop, I go to a vinyl night every two weeks with members of a facebook group called 8 o'clock shot and the guy who spins records Tom sort of represents record stop. I had been here once in the summer but didn't really get a chance to properly look around. I love records but I only have one. I'm trying my hardest to not collect much because currently I live in a small space and when my son and I can move out of my father's house we'll still be living in a small space. It was still nice to browse the records for sale. They also have other music related merchandise besides records. Tons of musical action figures, a small selection of books, T-shirts, patches. I bought my boyfriend a Kiss Flask for his birthday. His birthday isn't until August but sometimes you see something early and you just need to grab it. I'll also be buying him more than just a flask but for now it's a good start on a birthday that's still a few months away. And I was happy to purchase something to give record stop some business. The flask was also a pretty decent price giving me more budget room to buy other things. If you're around Patchogue and you're a music lover or a vinyl lover record stop is the place to go! read more

Great store in a cute walkable downtown area. They have an overwhelmingly large selection of Vinyls, Cds, Tapes, ETC. Would highly suggest a trip if you're looking for vinyl in Suffolk County. I've never considered myself an audiophile. Sure, I love to listen to all types of music, but higher quality sound wasn't something I thought I cared about...until my friend got a turntable and it peaked my interest. Take that intrigue (and my wife gifting me a turntable as a wedding present) and consider myself now a frequenter of a place like Record Stop, which, by the way, is incredibly awesome. I mean that's actually what we're reviewing here (not my transfer from mp3s and digital music over to records). Though it's important to know that if you are venturing into the hobby of record listening and collecting, the Record Stop can give you everything you need and more. Located right in the heart of Patchogue (and also in Charleston, SC if you happen to be going there), Record Stop creates the ultimate cozy vibe to shop. Perhaps you don't even have a turntable (or yours is mighty old). Well RS has a bunch available for sale which can get you going. Audio-Technia is a good place to start and you can pick up a record player of this brand at Record Stop...or you can just dive right into all those LPs. Don't take that word "all" lightly. Record Stop has one of the best collections of used vinyl I've seen. Now I can't say I've been to a ton of record stores thus far, but from the ones I've visited (and pics I've seen of other on Yelp), Record Stop's used collection is next level. Plus they make it easy for you to understand the quality of each vinyl with the grading system posted all over the store. Plus again, each used vinyl is in a protective sleeve which shows that they've really taken the time to inspect and care for each record before putting it out to sell. Sifting through used vinyls is half the fun of collecting records, but every now and then you'll want to just purchase a new LP and Record Stop is the place to do it. Their collection of new vinyl is also massive and extremely organized. It's very easy to find the exact band or singer you're looking for via the labels in each section. RS seems to even boast that they'll do a little leg work for you and search/order a specific album that you're looking to purchase. I can't say I've tried that out just yet, but my wife and I accidentally ended up with multiple copies of a specific album and Record Stop bought them all from us (albeit at a somewhat discounted price). Even so, the staff seems to be relatively friendly, helpful, and willing to work with you. Overall, Record Stop is a fantastic location to start (and continue) a love for vinyls. Whether you need the equipment, you want to skim through some used records, or you're looking for a specific album that you hope the staff can help you find, Record Stop has it and does it all. I know I'll be returning often and looking to build on that new audiophile title of mine. read more

Terrible on-line experience purchasing a limited edition release album. I had 1 in my cart and was waiting to check out and was suddenly told item was sold out. Went back and got the more expensive package with some other unneeded items thrown in and after hitting submit to purchase (I had an account with Record Stop already) was told again that the item was again sold out. Apparently you need to speed through the process as adding to your cart doesn't mean anything, and you are not allotted the usual 5 minutes to complete the purchase. It is obvious their purchasing process is still vintage and leads to a terrible experience. read more

A few months ago I reached out via Facebook and asked for a specific item for my daughter and was told they had it in stock. However, when I called the store to verify, I was told it was not in stock. It was a very sought after item so I just shrugged it off and continued my search. Weeks later I receive a message that they have the item and will hold it for me. I picked it up later that day. They didn't know me. They didn't have to reach out to me. They could have sold it for a lot more than the original cost, but they didn't. There aren't many companies like this nowadays and I will forever support them. It's time to spin that black circle in Patchogue! This long established mastic shop has danced its way into this booming lil town and I couldn't wait to check em out. -Gonna get some records, gonna get some records- The place is great, they carry all genres so if you've got some time to take a look, I highly suggest them; they've got new vinyls and cd,s too, but since old records never die, they've got an entire used section! Be sure to ask about the dollar record shelf; you may find a broken record or two in the mix but for a dollar it's still a steal. I just picked up Michael Jackson "Bad" and Santana "Abraxas" for a buck each, as well as Dion and the Belmonts live (runaround sue skipped) for 3bux So while that record goes around, I figured I'd drop some sweet tunage and add the Record Stops new location on Yelp. I've been wanting to come here for a while. Finally stopped in yesterday! It's very clean and well organized inside. All records are all organized by genre. Makes for easy browsing! Kind of reminded me of Tower Records from my younger years. Although it's not very big inside, the selection is huge. Customer service was great. Was greeted as soon as I entered and was offered help as needed. I wanted to see a record that was on a high shelf. It was brought down to me without a problem. Some records are slightly pricey. Others are reasonable. Can't wait to visit again! read more

Finally a place in town that isn't a bar!! I was thrilled when I heard about the Record Shop opening up since I've been getting more into vinyl lately and aren't the biggest fan of thrift stores, I thought this would be perfect. Once you walk in its literally wall to wall packed with vinyl (new & used), CDs, box sets, t-shirts, record players, cassettes...you name it. The amount of new stuff they have is pretty impressive and ranges in price which I saw from anywhere from $16-$35, of course this depends on what you're looking at. A double album will obviously be worth more than others. The used vinyl is equally as impressive having bins upon bins ranging in price from .99 to about $10-$15. The used section is the perfect place for the starter collector to grab all of the classics while also the place for the seasoned collector to take home the deep cuts. Staff was very helpful and nice when it came to checkout time. If you end up buying 2 new records or spending more than $50, they give you a Record Shop tote bag which you can bring back for additional purchases and receive a discount. I believe the discount was 5% but hey, every little bit counts! Love this place and will most definitely be returning (with my tote bag)! read more

First and foremost... Support your local record store!!! I'm in Long Island for my cousin's wedding and usually when I travel I like to check out local record stores. I thought why not see what LI has to offer. I was very pleasantly surprised by this gem of a store. Tons of great selection both new and used. Decent prices (especially the used) that vary on recency of the album, quality, rarity, etc. The guy working was helpful upon entering asking if I needed any help and not being a pretentious dick like some record store clerks can be. Next time I find myself in Long Island again for family matters I'll be sure to come back here for some more goods! read more

Do you have an hour.. or five.. to kill? The front of the store has somewhat organized used records. Do your core exercises before coming here so you can properly dig through the selection. In the back are remastered records as well as CDs. Nothing super-esoteric but was able to find Leonard Cohen and Nina Simone. Friendly guys and a good selection but in a wasteland (industrial park in Shirley). Can't wait for them to move to Patchogue! If you're into vinyl, they're worth chekcing out! read more

I was happy to see they had a great selection of old jazz, including my favorite - Billie Holiday! Scooped up a great rare album while we were there. Bruce - the owner - is good as gold! He'll order anything you ask for. If it's out of print, he'll try and find an import version that might still be floating around and is pretty reliable with rare classic material (Beatles, Beach Boys, Dylan, Neil Young, etc.) which makes this place a real resource. Lately the prices have been dropping. A new CD used to be an unthinkable $16.99 and now it's down to a much more reasonable $9.99-$11.99. Some used music gets mixed in, as well. The clerks behind the counter have varied in quality over the years (none so creepy or vile as Michael, thank goodness he's gone), but on the whole are generally willing to answer questions for you with little objection or eye-rolling. Cheap prices, decent stock and staff. I wish they had more by way of used music (apart from the section littered with dollar copies of the 'Austin Powers 2' soundtrack) which is why we've got four stars and not five up on the big board but - as I said - Bruce is an ace of an owner and a darn nice guy. Ok, so this place does have a nice selection of cds and records. It's a clean, fairly organized place. I've gotten some rare cds here that I couldn't find elsewhere, which was great. The only issue is trade-ins. They lowball you so badly that even a desperate person would walk away from the peanuts offer that they provide you. I get that they need to make money, but they must really think people are stupid. If you have rare used records or cds , even sealed stuff...do yourself a favor and don't bring it here to trade in. You may as well just give it to them. I get that they need to make money, but they should at least research the value of records before making an assumption. They passed up records that are $40-50 EACH on the average (even without the sleeve), gave a dirty look, and made it seem as if what you have is worth nothing. Not sure if we dealt with the owners directly, but it was like both people didn't even want to be bothered to look up what was offered because it would be considered "work". Disappointing to deal with, but moreover, foolish for business. A strong 2 stars on this one. read more

I have NEVER been in a place that did not have a Blues section. Not in new not in used. When I asked they said "look through the other sections maybe there are some mixed in" What a joke. They had albums of some of the most obscure nothing bands but no BB King.No Buddy Guy? None of the creators of rock-n-roll. Place sucked. read more

Interesting selection of FAKE vinyl. I checked this place out on the great reviews they've previously recieved. Maybe the old store was a "Long Island Institution" as their listing says, but this place sucks. As not only a vinyl aficionado but a musician, there's no way I can recommend anyone spend money here. Fake records may not be the only reason that the record industry sucks these days, but it's certainly not helping. There are very few record (or CD's) stores around anymore, but I'm glad we still have the Record Stop. They have a very nice selection of CD's and not just the new stuff. I've been to this store many times to purchase cds. The other day I brought in a big bag of cds to trade in for store credit. The kid that was working took a look at all of them said "you got some good stuff here" and then told me he would give me $8 in store credit. I was stunned ! He saw the look on my face and said he didn't mean to insult me. He said he was only allowed to give 50 cents each. I guess he couldn't count because I had 32 cds and that would be $16 if he gave 50 cents each. He asked what I think I could get and I said about $70. He said there's no way I'd get near $70. He said the owner might give more if I wanted to wait for him to get there. I waited a bit and then left. I told the kid $8 was robbery. Today I went to another cd shop to trade them in and got $89. It was all good stuff including all the Allman brothers deluxe editions and 5 cd box set. A few out of print cds. All in mint condition. There wasn't any crap cds in the bunch. I will NEVER go back to record stop in Patchogue. They lost a customer of many years. I started going to them many years ago when they were in the old location. No more ! read more

No, they may not be the biggest fans of Record Store Day, where stores are supposed to give preference to the walk-ins rather than the onliners, but isn't it nice to know that this place is still here, albeit in Shirley, keeping their shelves organized in a way that CD-abandoner Big Box no longer cares to do. Best record store ever! Doesn't get better than Record Stop

So I decided to go into this record shop after finally getting my record player going and I couldn't of been more turned off. I met the owner months ago before they opened and he was very nice so it was to my surprise that my experience was bad now that they have opened. I ask for a record that they didn't have and the guy that seemed to watch over the place seemed obviously annoyed for some reason. Even going back by the desk area and banging stuff around. He didn't realize my wife was in that area and overheard him complaining. Once he realized there was a customer in ear shot he told the girl that worked there "oh I'll tell you later". I left confused because all I asked him was if he had a certain record. I guess in my opinion in a world full of itunes and Amazon that people really don't need places like this anymore . You go to a record shop for vibe and nostalgia. If you walk in and you feel like your bothering the people that work there when you ask them a question then well I'll just go elsewhere for records. read more

Checked out the new location after visiting the old location once before. The new store looks great! It's just the right size, not too small but not overwhelmingly large, and the windows keep it light and airy. It's very clean and organized as well. They have an incredible selection of both new and used records. I spent a while browsing through part of their selection of used records, and found a lot of great records that were not only cheap but also in great condition. There are bottom shelves filled with 99 cent records, and there is a tiny chair provided to help make looking through the bottoms rows easier. I left with 14 used records and 2 new records, and the 2 new records are the only reason I ended up spending more money than I should have, but that is to be expected with new records. Admittedly, I thought one of the new records I bought was a bit pricey, but the excitement of even finding it in store overcame me. Since I spent over $50, I was given a Record Stop carrying bag and was told that each time I bring it with me I'd get 5% off my purchase! If I had stayed longer I know I would have left with a lot more records, but I can definitely see myself coming here on a regular basis, and can't wait to visit again! read more
