We visited here for the first time (incredibly) and so enjoyed our time here. The owner explained that her dad had a vision 33 years ago to fill this space with lots of vendors selling their wares. She said there are still a few of the original vendors there and there is a 5 year wait list for new ones! You walk through the spaces filled with all kinds of unique items and bring it up to the front to pay for it. Cash or check accepted. You can easily get lost in this space for hours! We picked up some German beer steins, some egg coddlers, a book and a few other odds and ends, all at reasonable prices. Yes, some things seemed overpriced but most were fair. I have shopped at the Stratford Antique Center on 2 occasions about 3 months apart. The place is very large with many different sellers. It makes for a nice date to grab a coffee then spend a few hours browsing. The staff are always super friendly and very helpful. There is a lot of great stuff in here but unfortunately the vast majority or sellers are charging way way too much. Some sellers are reasonable but most seem to be price gouging. I mean we are talking like $900 for a rocking chair that is broken as an example. If folks were willing to pay these prices they would just buy new. I have managed to find some reasonably priced items of clothing and furniture, but often found that if I found something I kind of liked, I never liked it enough to pay the asking price. It's clear that others feel the same as many of the booths had all of the same exact items they had 3 months ago. Most need to bring their prices down by 30-50% tbh. I have enjoyed window shopping here but probably will go elsewhere from here on out. read more

It used to take us almost 2 hours to go through this multi-dealer shop; we did it today as a destination stop on the way back from shopping the Adamstown PA area and went through it in under 45 minutes. Went to SAC for the first time and loved it! It's a pretty large warehouse turn antique center. Each section is unique, I'm not sure who sets them up or how it works. You will definitely find whatever antique or vintage thing you're looking for here, be it clothes, kitchenware, baskets galore! Definitely will be back! Pricey though! In an effort to find "something to do" in CT, checking out antique places has become a new venture. Very convenient that they are open on weekdays, especially since that's when there is hardly anyone else there. You can easily spend a few hours browsing the many stalls, each with their own style. Everything from china, silver, vintage clothing, paintings, decorative items, glassware, toys, jewelry...the list is endless. A true treasure trove, although some items are mere junk a la tag sale items and not true antiques. That being said, there are also locked glass display cases near the entrance with higher end jewelry, glassware, chess boards, figurines, etc. I highly recommend checking them out whether you are a serious antique buyer or just a curious browser. read more

One of my favorite antique stores - I always find something I resist. A wide variety of vendors and items. My only comment (and the reason it's not 5 stars) is that the lady at the front counter needs to stop openly complaining about other employees directly to customers! it makes customers uncomfortable to hear you complain about your co-workers (and sometimes, when there is a line, we have to listen to it for way too long). Every employee I have ever encountered in the shop has been very helpful and accommodating so please be nice and be thankful you have great employees in a tight hiring market!! read more

This antique store has an absolutely amazing selection, but the women who work behind the counter are horrendous. The workers who help with moving furniture are so sweet and helpful, but the women behind the counter doing the sales and answering phones are some of the rudest people you will ever meet. I drove 3 hours to pick up a piece I bought here and the first thing this woman said to me when I got to the store was that I was late because we were 30 minutes behind schedule (during business hours well before their store closes mind you). They have no concept of how to speak to their customers. Save your money and go to an antique store that will treat you well. I was told about this place from another very large antique dealer and boy was I not disappointed. I've been searching for almost a year for any type of old typewriter with no luck. I go here and within 5 minutes found an old 1924 remington standard 12. The yr is still being researched. They have everything you can think of and their prices are awesome. I'm heading back today. I love antique places and had been reading about this joint for years, so finally decided to pull the trigger. My mom and I went and good lordy, is this place massive. We were there for at least an hour, it could have 3 or 15 because I may have blacked out from overstimulation. It's unusual for me NOT to buy something at a place like this, but they (weirdly!) did not have what I collect (I'm not telling you all what I collect because petty Yelp folks will run right out and buy from my usual sources) and I couldn't help but notice that several of the employees were following me at different times, and not at all discreetly. Not sure why I seemed like I was going to pocket a birdcage or a set of Pyrex from 1958, but when I noticed it, I decided to act suspicious, and the following ramped up. Good times. Anyway, Stratford Antique Center has everything you could possibly ever want. They didn't have (stated above) what I, personally, want, but give yourself an afternoon, wear comfortable shoes and for god's sake, don't carry a bag or wear a coat with pockets. This place is huge, albeit a bit cramped in many parts. We just came to browse around, check out some artwork or maybe find a bar cart but came out empty-handed. The place is set up in little alcoves that you can kind of make a small loop through, but they're pretty cluttered so sometimes you can't walk around and see or reach everything. I don't know how the prices were since I'm not big into antiquing but it was still a fun way to spend an hour or so just browsing. I probably wouldn't be rushing back as I doubt they change up their selection that often but it's still an interesting recommendation for others to check out on a cold, rainy day. We're from Providence, but my boyfriend had job training down in Fairfield CT so I was looking for something nearby to kill the time. Lucky for me I found a brochure for Stratford Antique Center at a local McDonalds. It was 10 minutes away so this was a must for me. I am in love. As previously mentioned, there are 200 dealers in this space. Some antique malls, even with their widespread of vendors, appear to lack in variety. This mall had every kind of collectible for every kind of seeker. Want oriental? Yep. A whole cabinet of vintage cap guns? Sure. Displays of vintage Kirk Folly jewelry? That too. You do postcards.. well they have bins of that, and keys.. bottle caps... etc. To add the cherry to the pie, the prices throughout the whole place seem very reasonable... and if you pay with cash/check you get a 10% discount off everything over $10! Quick easy on and off access from 95. It's a MUST if you're into antiques and passing through the area. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is going on a hot day. We were still browsing at 4:53 pm when they abruptly turned off all of the lights (except for the checkout counter) without any announcement or notice to finish one's shopping. Had some time to kill around the area and was told of the Stratford Antique Center by a friend. Being an antique fanatic, I figured I'd stop in for a few minutes and see if they had anything of interest. About a half mile from the highway, it was not difficult to find at all. The building itself is a somewhat warehouse looking industrial building that I would never have given a second look. Parking lot was small, but plenty of space available. Walked inside and literally stopped dead in my tracks. This place is HUGE. I mean, Home Depot type huge. But what's really amazing, isn't the size of the floor, but the amount of cases, cubbies, and rows they manage to pack into this place. I rushed through the place, skipping a few cases and rows here and there, only taking time to really look at a few items closely, and still managed to spend two hours in the place. Each section (cubby) is rented out by a single person, and they are free to place what they wish in there. Some of the sections have themes, such as WWII or Christmas collectables, while others seem to be an assortment of random items. Prices vary along with each section and item, but as with most antique stores, you're unlikely to score a deal. Staff was friendly, coming around once or twice to collect any items I was holding and ask if I needed any help. All in all, a great shop. While they didn't have very many high value items, and seemed to specialize more in nick-nacks, I'll definitely be checking in again some time soon, when I have some more time to spare, to see what else they have. read more

Warehouse size with loads of small antique stalls. You could take forever to see everything. I am strictly into Vintage Pyrex, so I scan and then look at the condition and prices. Mostly all the Pyrex I looked at was in good ,to excellent condition so the prices were high considering how collectable it is right now. I did find a few items at a reasonable price (antique prices not thrift prices) and the lady at the front desk was friendly and they offer a 10% discount for cash or credit. Thats about what I was going to try to negotiate for, so I was happy with that. They did have some rare items that I would probably never see even in other antique places, so I thought it was a cool place. Stratford Antique Center is an excellent warehouse sized antique store that is clean, organized, and filled with an eclectic assortment of all types of antiques. The store is organized into partitions or cubicles, each operated by a different vendor. Every area has a slightly different feel to it and some sections have more specific merchandise (such as kitchen utensils and appliances in one versus another that is more furniture focused) though the store overall has a feeling of continuity, not chaos, to it. It is a great place to browse and you may even find some hidden treasures. I enjoy reading through the old postcards that are available from some of the vendors, though on my last visit I did think that the staff started watching me since I stayed so long in one area. They do seem to have many employees patrolling around the shop to assist customers and potentially as a security measure because I did feel a bit like I was being eyed with a tinge of suspicion. Not a big deal; I realize they may have been wondering why I was compelled to stay in one cubicle for about thirty minutes...probably not that common! Prices range, obviously depending on the item and the vendor. My boyfriend did make a purchase there recently and was able to negotiate the price on a fairly expensive item, so don't be afraid to ask. It seems like they are open to bargaining to an extent, as many antiques shops tend to be. The location is fairly easy to access from the highway which is another bonus. If you like antiques, it's worth at least an hour of your time. I have been coming here repeatedly over the years due to selection and pricing, however the last time I was making a large purchase and examining it to ensure it was in the condition I wish to invest in. Most of the time places are good about this, in this place however they gave me an unnecessary attitude and barked at me to hurry things up like my purchase which was quite expensive did not matter to them. They were being very paranoid and cranky in thinking that I may somehow go away with the item right in front of their faces with further employees and cameras all around. I found this off putting as firstly I require a very clean background for my position, secondly I have been a repeat customer who always pays accordingly and thirdly this purchase was not some sort of rare museum piece requiring constant surveillance and overly bearing paranoia. There are ways to ensure merchandise is being handled accordingly and customers are being serviced and this did not exhibit as such. read more
