Prior to Christmas, there was a special for a gift card that was four lessons for $100. I called to…read moreinquire about when teachers for guitar and piano were and if they were there the same day so I could schedule lessons for my son and I the same day. They say, oh yes, that's not a problem. I also asked if we couldn't get to the Frisco location, could we move the lessons to Lewisville. They said yes. You cannot break the gift card lessons for different teachers though. I decided to buy the cards since my son was interested. I called to order the gift cards and they said I had to come in. I ignored this red flag and went to the store even though I live an hour away. After I knew our schedules after Christmas, I called to set up our lessons together. I thought this would be easy but it was anything but. I asked if we could book out certain dates and they were adamant that you had to have the same time each week. I said that was impossible for us for many reasons. I asked to book out the four lessons, which supposedly they did, however, then they said, we give a free lesson and then after that you will have those time slots available. Long story short, I went to my "free" lesson on a different day than my son because there were no times together. Then I went to schedule my lessons and the times were not available. Before I move on, I also have to note that when booking these lessons, they require a credit card. I asked why they needed a credit card since I have a gift card and we weren't planning on continuing lessons. They said it was the only way they could schedule the lessons. I left the store and got a text from my credit card company saying that they charged me $95. I immediately called and they said, oh we are so sorry, you should expect a refund next week. I went in for a lesson for my son and asked for them to refund me and they said it should be in the account soon. After 4, 5, 6, and 7 days I checked my credit card and there was no refund. Then I called again and they said that I had to come in to get this refund. I began classes and the teacher asked where my book was. I was never told that I had to buy a book. This is a minor detail but after all of the above, I was already frustrated. Then we had to deal with my son's lessons. I called and asked when the teacher was available. I said great, let's sign my son up. My son had the gift card and credit card at home so I asked him to call to get it set up. My son calls and the associate said that he couldn't set him up over the phone and he needed to come in. I was beyond livid at this point. I call them back and unfortunately had to be a major Karen. He asked why my son was asking to do two sessions at one time. I said that it really wasn't his business but I said that we live far so if we could do two sessions at a time, it would help. I then said that my son would call back and that I would like him to be able to schedule his appointments. I had tried for weeks to get us appointments together but their guitar teacher was only available on Saturdays, which my son was not available for now. I asked them to move me to Lewisville where they had more times and after a day, I got the OK that we could go to Lewisville. I am not sure if this has only happened to me but I can't tell you how much time and effort I spent to get these lessons and deal with this office. I work and have a million things I handle daily and this was anything but easy. Something fun turned into a pain in my *ss with all of the dumb rules. I know the associates are just doing as they are trained so it's not their fault. But I am not sure why they put so many barriers on this hobby. I have used them in the past to rent an instrument and they were fine. But this was a horrible experience and I would never, ever recommend them to anyone. I ended up cancelling my last two lessons and ate the cost because I just don't ever want to walk into that store again.

Fast forward to today, 9/15 (havent not attended any classes after the 2) i get charged $125 and they said i sign up for monthly subscription. I did not do that. I was told it was up to me to call and cancel. I got charged today. Why would you charge me today, same day i called you to tell ypu mu daughter never attended any of your services. The person i spoke to was nonchallant and completely didnt care. I expect a refund. I did not use your service. I recommend people be careful before signing up. This is appalling and a bait and switch. This is not how business should be conducted.

She also believes that if a student doesn't improve, is the teacher's job to find the way to help a brain that is stuck! She brought tears to my eyes... I am devoted to my piano practice; used to practice 2 hours a day! Developed pain in my thumbs saddle joints to the point of interfering with my job... that's when I quit; a year into it. Than I met Mrs Wunsch... she asks you to practice 10 minutes a day, twice a day, both hands TOGETHER in a certain pattern of the sheet music... Her lessons are only 30 minutes long; when the brain gets "mush" is useless, she says! She is also happy to share her unique story in the music industry, her life in Europe as a student and more. The owner Jiyoung Johnston has no true care for the education/welfare of your children. Jiyoung…read moreJohnston will charge for a recital that does not have the equipment/instruments your child requires for their performance, making an extremely embarrassing and awkward situation for young performers, then she will attempt to bribe and intimidate your child. My 9 year old daughter has been studying electric guitar at Lone Star Music Academy since August. This has consisted of weekly in person sessions at the North Dallas location. On 11/2 she had her very first recital and was extremely nervous and excited, both sets of grandparents and aunts/uncles were in attendance. Upon arriving I checked in with Wendy who is the director of the Flower Mound location, I asked her if everything was set up for my daughter and Wendy assured me that a guitar and amp was in the next room and would be used. Once my daughter was called to the stage there was no guitar, there was no amp. After grabbing our guitar that we happened to have in the car and setting her up we were told there was no amp. Wendy made no move to assist, her helper attempted to move a microphone close to my daughter's electric guitar so the audience could hear her. I ended up having to hold the microphone close while my daughter played. No one could hear her ELECTRIC GUITAR and it was extremely awkward, my daughter was extremely embarrassed, the setup was horrible, and her instructor was not present (all other instructors were there with their students). Afterwards Wendy avoided me as I requested to speak with the owner Jiyoung Johnston. Jiyoung Johnston stated she was unaware of what instruments the students played and had assumed my daughter was playing piano. She became aggressive saying we should wait along with our entire family and have my daughter perform at the next recital scheduled for one hour later. This was a worthless suggestion because there was NO AMP at the MUSIC ACADEMY that my daughter could use. Jiyoung Johnston then asked to speak with my daughter and walked her down the hall to be out of earshot. I then saw Jiyoung Johnston pull my daughter into a room and stand with her back to the door blocking my daughter from walking out. before my wife made it to the room to get our daughter Jiyoung Johnston told my daughter "Your father is upset, perform again so he won't be mad" then made promises of "feeding her" which is disturbing in itself. Jiyoung Johnston only made excuses and has not apologized or reached out. I was charged $25.00 for a recital fee and have demanded to be reimbursed but have received no correspondence. My daughter is nine years old, this was her first public performance and it went so badly due to no fault of her own, she practiced every day for months and she was failed completely by Lone Star Academy. Right now my daughter has no desire to perform again, I am sure that will change in the future, and it is fine if it does not but the fact that she was excited and was let down so badly by the adults who were in charge of making sure the recital went well is unbelievable and disgusting. Kids remember and traumatic events can really stay with them for the rest of their lives.
