I will begin by saying that the incident that sparked my review happened 9 months ago and I'm still furious so I feel compelled to write. I was planning to take a very long drive for the weekend when a warning message involving transmission heat kept coming on. Car is less than 3 years old, about 30,000 miles. Here is the good news: the service department agreed to squeeze me in on Friday morning after I explained my situation. I was extremely grateful. I had hoped to get on the road by noon, 2 the latest. If it was going to take longer than that to fix the car, I planned to leave it there and take my other car for the trip. It's much smaller and would be cramped but I would make do. I dropped the car off at 7:30 am. I started calling to check on the car around 11 and was told, "We'll call you when it's ready." Well, I just wanted to get an update on the status but OK, I'll be patient. The second time I called I told the person that if it's not going to be ready soon, I will leave the car there for the weekend. Again, "We'll call you when it's ready." No acknowledgement that I would have preferred to leave it there if it was not going to be ready soon. When I called at 2:00 I was told it would be done in about an hour. An hour later I was told they haven't even looked at it yet. This is when I lost my s---. I drove over there with my husband and walked into service, asking for the keys so I could take it home. The car was right where I left it, never looked at. I explained my dissatisfaction to the first person who looked at me, who turned and walked away. Every single person (all male) in the office avoided looking at me and no one acknowledged my frustration. I could have been invisible. No one offered any explanation or apology. They did, however, ask my husband if they could help him. Sexist. I could have been on the road 4 hours earlier and they didn't have the decency to give me an explanation. On my way home I called the sales manager, because I was in the market for a new lease and was planning to trade in this car. I had already spoken to sales previously. I explained my story and told her not to have anyone contact me to sell me anything. She said she would have her general manager call me back with an explanation and a resolution for the service debacle. I'm still waiting. I did, however, get a call back from the service rep, the same woman I scheduled with. I shared that I was grateful she squeezed me in but I made it clear I was going to leave the car if it couldn't be done by 2 and no one bothered to speak to me every freakin' time I called. They brushed me off with a "We'll call you when it's ready." She then asked me if I wanted to reschedule. Are. You. Kidding. Me?!!!! I traded in my lease at another Honda dealer a week later, and the service there has been great. VIP = Very Irresponsible Practices. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE-My car was recently totaled so I was on the hunt for a car-I was not picky about make/model mainly just something affordable. The first time I went into VIP Honda the girl at the front desk told me no one could help me. A salesman came over and was very disheveled and clearly in a hurry and couldn't be bothered to help me. He told me the car I was looking for was sold and didn't bother to try to find anything else. Clearly he was a sexist and didn't want to discuss things with a woman. The second time I went in with my fiancé figuring that we would have a better experience and they advertise great cars. The salesman directed all of his conversation towards my fiancé and blew off my concerns. I repeatedly told him that I was the one purchasing the car-I was still ignored. We found a car in their inventory that I liked and the salesman went to go get it-He brought a different (more expensive car) and tried to pass it off as the first. Very disappointed with my experience there-VIP Honda is a true depiction of how sexist the auto industry truly is. A little background prior to my visit at VIP (feel free to skip to the bottom)... My search for an Accord Touring started on cars.com, then led me to Open Road Honda in Edison on Tuesday 3/19 to see an Ex-L V6 with Honda Sense, since it has adaptive cruise control (the feature I'm most interested in, since driving an Audi A6 prestige). I have a 2014 Honda Accord Touring, which my wife has been putting a lot of miles on since taking a job in Red Bank. Figured I would try to trade it in for something with lower miles and incremental upgrades... Long story short, I asked for "as close as possible to my payoff" on my accord, and a firm OTD price on the '17 Accord. Open Road started with a very low offer on my trade-in then met me halfway. However they couldn't meet me on the OTD price. Yesterday morning I requested info online from VIP Honda for a very similar vehicle, and even explained my situation with the trade-in and what I was hoping to have the '17 Accord for OTD (to see if even feasible, worth coming in). I shortly received emails from Flor, very nice internet sales professional, with more information on the car and a phone call inviting me to stop in so they could appraise my '14 Accord. After stopping in yesterday evening, I was greeted by Rodney, salesperson, and later Flor who assured me that I would be taken care of. Great experience so far... gave Rodney all my info and when he asked what I wanted on the trade-in, I simply said - "as close to the payoff as possible, whatever you guys can do" (same response to Open Road). He walked away, and shortly came back with the sales manager, who sat in his seat and very firmly said (paraphrasing)- "you can try to sell the car for whatever you want ($14K, $20K) and if someone is willing to pay it, then great, but a dealer won't pay your payoff amount or close to it". I responded with - I understand and I appreciate that - (waiting for his offer), and he continued with his confrontational rant saying- "so I don't want to waste your time, we are way off". I responded with the trade-in price that Open Road offered me, and said - so you can't even come close to that? He said, not even. I said okay then take the trade-in off the table, since I can sell privately, and tell me the OTD price on the vehicle (as if begging for a bone)... He said- "easy, look up the price" (speaking to Rodney), and then walked away. Rodney, who was very polite, with great intentions I'm sure, looked up the internet price, which was $1,000 higher than the price in the email I receive from Flor. I explained and showed him the email, and he asked if I minded him showing the sales manager. Not wanting to even get him involved again, I said - no thanks, I don't feel right about this, got up and left the dealer. I'm not sure what happened from the moment I sat with Rodney, to the point the sales manager walked over... to give the benefit of a doubt, maybe Rodney gave him the impression somehow that I was hell bent on the payoff amount (which I wasn't by any means), but I've honestly never felt unwelcome in a dealer or met sales people who didn't even want to attempt to make any type of offer. In my humble opinion, this management needs to change their approach, with treatment of first time visitors/potential customers, unless this is a one-off and the store is actually the top performing in the state. Maybe it was a fluke/off day, and wrong time/place on my part, but I will never step foot in VIP's dealerships. Mind you my wife will need a car when her lease is up, so could have gained two potential customers, rather losing more since I will spread the word to family/friends. Always treat people with respect and at least show you want to sell, it's your business after all. Went here after my cruiser died (r.i.p) and was greeted with some of the nicest people in the state of jersey lol. Everyone was helpful and well informed on their inventory. We were helped by Alex sr. Very nice and outgoing man. Made me very confortable and not at all pushy as other car salemen (I'm looking at you ppl of autoland) elios (i think thats mispelled) finace was very sweet and also extremely helpful. I didn't get that feeling like he was just worried about making a sale. He explained everything in detail which I am a fan of. Gorgeous showroom. When you walk in its very laid back. They sell defective pre-owned vehicles. Last place to buy a car from. Used cars salespersons really deceitful and dishonest. Took almost one whole day to complete the purchase. Advise: if you start to have bad feeling walk away, don't hesitate, don't give any of them benefit of doubt. There are tons and tons of car dealerships. Stay away from Alex, Neo (Nabil) and Rich in used cars department. They are scammers and would sell you defective cars that people want to get rid of and trade them with certified Honda's. I bought a Volvo S40 2007 from used car section. The car looked good and the price was within reasonable KBB margin. They gave me one month engine and transmission warranty, in hint-site I know why one month and not three months. Exactly one month later the check engine sign started to appear. I called Them but I was tranfered from one to other and did not get any help at all. So I decided to take the car and speak with them in person. I went to across route 22 were they sell used cars. They let me wait there for about an hour for the used car salesman. He never came back. So I decided to go to new cars section and try to get hold of this guy myself. I went there and the manager Kelly came to me and asked me to go back across the street and talk to the mechanic directly. I should mention that the manager Kelly and mechanic Jerry were helpful. I took the car back and the added injector cleaner and resetted the sign. After a few days the light came back. This time they said the ignition coils were bad so the engine has misfire. They changed the two coils. The engine sign went out but after a few days came back. This time the claimed that they replaced the spark plugs. He asked me to drive a few miles and the check engine light will disappear which it did. But the shaking and engine hesitation did not go away. I bought the car on 20/1/2018 and the only time it run well was during the warranty period. Other than that there were always some engine issue. Finally I consulted a mechanic and he advised me to replace all the coils. I did that but the engine still continued shaking and did not have enough acceleration and had high fuel consumption. Another issue was the car lost coolant from the time I bought it. It became so bad that I used to fill the resevior every other day and the level still dropped, there were no paddles. The car has now several major issues and I don't know if I ever be able to enjoy it. I thought I bought a nice Volvo from a reputable dealership that I will have peace of mind that I can trust them and be confident that they wouldn't sell ma a bad product. I trusted them that they will take care of the car if it had problems that were not my fault. Now about 5 months and 5k miles after the purchase the car is almost undrivable. My dream of owning a good reliable car became a nightmare. The car had 77k miles and was not supposed get in this condition. I don't know what to do with the car and can't spend everyday fixing some issues. I don't want to came across as resentful because as I said the manager and mechanic were good people however the salespersons sold me a bad product which they were aware of and they shouldn't have done that. Everyone's reviews of the service department are spot on! If I could get no stars, I would do so. They had my 2015 CRV for 3 days back in 2017. I continued to have issues and brought it to another Honda dealership. The new Honda dealership called VIP Honda and told me that VIP Honda admitted to doing no repairs on my car when they had it for 3 days. They were supposed to do a service bulletin repair, which was under warranty. They gave me an invoice showing what work was done but it actually wasn't done! It is disgusting and horrifying that this dealership (whom I purchased the car from) would return a car to a person when it was not safe to drive. You will be better off buying your car in a dark alley somewhere. This place is so shady, their word means nothing, they will cater to your every need to get you in the car but once they have your money they want nothing to do with you. The warrantee is a scam. They will tell you it covers everything and it doesn't. I had to speak to about 6 different people before so I can find out the duration of my warrantee. The terrible reviews are spot on. Never go here. This is exactly the type of dealership that gives the car buying process such a bad rap. They gave me a price over email, promised no extra fees (outside of destination fees) over the phone and in person, and then ended up charging me a boatload of fees ($300 "security guard" for etching and wheel locks that I never asked for, and about another $500 in "doc fees"). They never talk about these fees, they just slip them in there and distract you. The security guard fee even says "optional" on the invoice, but they charge it regardless of whether you want it or not. Also, one of the managers told me on the phone that the quoted price includes the security fee, yet the dealership charged this on top of everything. I talked to several people in the dealership about this (emails and phone), and nothing was done. Since I needed the car on short notice, I went ahead with the purchase (didn't have time to shop around more). Also, a cargo mat was agreed upon in the invoice, but they never gave it. I sent them an email to keep it. I want nothing to do with this dealership. And I suggest you do the same (it's not just me, read all the other reviews). There are other much more professional and honest dealerships out there, even within a few miles. Go elsewhere. Not to mention their dealership looks like a dump compared to other dealerships. Wish I had seen the warning signs, wish I had not been in a hurry to get a car. On the positive side, I love my car (all to do with Honda, nothing with the dealership), I'm much wiser now about car buying, and I hope I can help others avoid the experience I had when making such a large and important purchase. This place is horrific. I have a 2018 Honda CRV and my fiancé who is a mechanic said the noise I heard was the blower motor. I brought my car there so it could be fixed they kept it all day and could not find anything wrong with it. I went in with a written quote from Autosport in Bridgewater and had the audacity to ask them to match it, the sales person was rude, the manager looked like he'd just sucked on a lemon when he came over and was out right nasty, carrying on about having to make a profit. They insisted on $299 for etching! Autosport it's free, their "Doc Fee'' was about $100 higher, the quote was $300 higher. I was in the car business for several years, when we couldn't make a deal, the manager always smiled, thanked the person for the opportunity, etc. Not these guys. BUYERS BEWARE!! I purchased a vehicle last month and was told someone will call when my plates were ready. My temporary plates was set to expire on March 17th and it wasn't until March 15th that I realized they hadn't called. So I reached out to find out what's going on. Alfred, my salesman texted that the plates were ready. When my husband got there they told him it actually wasn't and they're having issues with the bank so they'll reissue and overnight new temp plates on Monday March 18th. I received a call today, March 19th that in order for me to receive the new temp plates, I have to submit the expired one!!!! I called to speak to a manager and ALEX VERAS picked up the phone and STARTS YELLING (I had him on speaker and asked my colleague to record him). That's how BELLIGERENT and UNPROFESSIONAL he was!! It is day 5 since my temp plates expired and still NO RESULTS/COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER. I am looking into getting a lawyer involved. I have filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs. I REGRET EVER DEALING WITH THIS DEALERSHIP! Btw see the pictures of the cracked bumper that they knowingly knew was there but still went ahead and sold the car. I never had an issue getting new plates for a vehicle until I came here. No one ever called me to let me know my plates were in, so I called since my temp tag was going to expire soon. For a week straight I was placed on hold, hung up on and sent to the wrong extension. When I finally got a hold of my sales person she said to wait until Thursday, if no one calls me to call them. Of course, no one called. I called back Friday and was told I'll get a call back, once again no call back. I went to the dealership on Saturday and spoke to their rude tight suit wearing finance director, David, and the only thing he could tell me was he doesn't know, and their motor vehicle dept is closed on Saturday.. He asked who I spoke to, I told him I spoke to my sales person, and a few other people he then tried to push the blame on me for not calling him directly. His little parrot, Elizabeth chimed in saying she texted me on Thursday, yes a text about your referral program, wtf does that have to do with me getting my plates? Why should it make a difference who I call when you're all in the same office? He gave me his card and said to call him Monday (today) but why would I do that just to hear we don't know?? This morning I called motor vehicles in Trenton, gave them the VIN number to my truck just for them to tell me absolutely nothing was done. I called the dealership and spoke with someone named Vanco, all of a sudden I'm getting calls left and right to come in and get another temp tag. On June 2012 my husband and I both bought new Accords. When our salesperson Matt brought over the contracts for us to sign the price on each was $100 more than we agreed to. Not wanting to have to redo the contracts Matt offered us both 2 coupons for free oil changes instead. The coupons said free 1st oil change. I asked if we would be able to use them for the 2nd oil change and Matt said it would not be a problem, people do it all the time. We signed the contracts. Today my husband went for his 2nd oil change. He was told by the service department that they could not accept the coupon. When we went to pick up the car we asked to speak to a manager. The showroom was not busy, yet we had to wait almost 10 minutes until Vanco Eftimov, a sales, came to speak with us. We told him what happened and he said that if Matt was going to give us a free oil change beyond the first one he had to note it in the computer system, which of course he didn't, and Matt no longer works there. He said sales people promise customers things all the time, but unless you get it in writing you're not going to get it. So he admits sales people lie, and then can't understand why we're angry. Says the best he can do is give us a discount on the oil change. I said that wasn't good enough and he said he didn't have the authority to comp us and there were no general managers there because it was Saturday. I asked for the name of the general manager so I can call to complain on Monday and he brings me into an office where we speak to another manager named Phil Petris. After explaining our situation again, he practically accuses us of stealing the second coupon and seems baffled as to why we're angry. It was the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. I'm writing a letter to the owner of the dealership, waiting to see what he has to say about how rudely his employees treated me and my husband. read more

In sum: This place gives meaning to the derogatory phrase "used car salesman". Very similar experience to what's described in many other posts on Yelp; wish I'd taken a look on here before going there. Bought a used car from them, decent service until I drove the car off the lot. After that, took it to an independent auto mechanic and found all sorts of issues with the car. They claimed that they'd had it inspected and it had been perfect, that all of the damage must've accrued after driving it off the lot. Right... The guy even basically hung up on me when I called about the issues. Needless to say, I don't ever plan on giving them my business again, and I hope others don't either. read more

I just came there and I used to go there even during the height of Covid pandemic when only Gwen was working during the pandemic. I called one week before to schedule a maintenance which was scheduled Saturday 8:00 am. I have three Honda Accord cars already serviced by them. The young guy in the service desk is dismissive. My car has a plate E28**. He pulled up a vehicle with plate no. A***. Then told me I have no appointment. I told him my phone number but he insists that that's the phone number where my car is registered. First of all it's not my plate number and it's not my phone but he insists. When he cannot find anything else he finally listened and put my phone number and there was my appointment. When I told him I need maintenance, he said they are fully backed up and they cannot do maintenance. He would only do oil change. He charged me $54.*. Had I known, I would not miss my morning mass and I can go to Valvoline which welcomes me with open arms. I ask him, "Do I get a free car wash? " He said for only an oil change no he cannot. I was scheduled for maintenance and I have an appointment but he reports he's pretty backed up and cannot do it. Charged me almost like Valvoline and when he gave me the bill, he has half of his body turning about but he said the checkup showed the brake is midlife. So I asked him what do you mean? He said it's working but that it is half of it's life. So what's the life of a brake. He said, two years. So how much life should I have? One year. I have Harry Auto Shop for any small car needs. I can go any Honda Service Center but I like North Plainfield so even if I was in Maplewood or in Franklin Township I go to North Plainfield with Gwen. But now, my next car is Subaru. read more

The service department is a bunch of untrustworthy scumbags. My mother took her CRV in for routine service. She mentioned there is an issue with the ball joint. They came back and said it was fine and also did an alignment. Aft er she got the car back she took it to the independent shop that confirmed there was an obvious issue with the ball joint and it will need to be replaced. So basically VIP didn't find the obvious issue, then they did an alignment that they knew wouldn't hold due to the bad ball joint. When this issue was brought to them they refused to acknowledge it and wanted to charge her full price for another alignment. Wouldnt even budge. Pretty shady if you ask me. But I suppose thats why everybody in the area goes to Honda Autosport in Bridgewater instead. You've been warned, To be honest im not sure why she even went back there after they screwed up her car TWICE and tried to blame it on "bad gas". And the only reason that got rectified was cause i had to go down there in person and pin the service manager into a wall. I even tried to foolishly buy a car there five years ago. Walked in with a 15g cash down payment. They made me jump through hoops, dragged their feet and couldnt find the car i wanted. Guess what, Clinton Honda found exactly what i wanted in less than 24 hours and the whole transaction took less than an hour. Says something. Just look at all the low reviews on this place. Maybe they shoulda spent less money on the renovations and spent a little more on customer service. Or at least training on how not scam little old ladies. Embarrassing. In closing: Dont buy a car there, dont get any service performed there. The only purpose they serve is leveraging a better price at another dealership. read more

They Know how to Treat Customers Right, I had a very bad experience at another Honda Dealership, these guys made it special for us. I inquired about the car which I was looking for & that was ready for a test drive, they told me to come next day and it was ready. We looked in to our options made the deal and finally I drove home the same car which I had inquired about and to my surprise they didn't ask if I don't buy it today it will be sold or any of those pressure tack ticks which usually you expect at a car dealership. Ramon did not pressure us to buy and gave us enough space to make an informed decision. We'll recommend to visit them & it's going to be your times worth. read more

Beware of this dealer! They treat their customers so unprofessionally and try to steal your money on top of that. I had the worst experience ever here. I had to call corporate and put a complaint. I was furious and embarrassed. I couldn't believe they could treat me with such disrespect. The service manager has absolutely no business being there as he lacks the communication skills needed to deal with customers and any issues that arise. He treated me as if i was an idiot as well as the other associates. They caused damage to my car after an oil change and transmission fluid change. They tried to charge me the diagnostic fee also and told me they had nothing to do with the damage caused. I went to a mechanic who confirmed they were absolutely responsible for the damage. On top of that, they suggested I had to change another part that would cost me $900 and the mechanic I paid to fix my car after the damage they caused stated that there was nothing wrong with the additional parts they were trying to get me to fix. Worst dealership. Poor management. When you go in to buy a car they run after you and when you experience a problem they don't even care. Bought a brand new car, drove for couple weeks, less then 300 milage and the timing belt broke while i was driving in the middle of the highway. I was lucky not to get in to an accident. We weren't aware of the issue and the manager was explaining it as it was a minor problem, we went to pick our personal stuff from the car and talk to mechanic we found out about the issue. We got disappointed and very upset and the manager's answer was "go talk to your lawyer" seriously what kind of customer service is that! I hope no one experience this. STAY away and go to a different dealer for your own sake! read more

I swear by this place...until it gives me a reason not too! No joke, this place is hands down way better than any dealership within the same management. If anyone thinks this place is ONE-STAR, please visit Paul Miller Honda and see the mess you go through there!! Trust me, no one is paying me to say this, lol. After dealing a botched recall job from Paul Miller Honda, this place has been amazing in the repair aftermath. Of course the HQ got involved, but they have been more than accommodating with dealership politics. Our service rep was named John Stuart and he has been a pleasure to work with. He told us step by step procedures, reported back with in-depth invoices of what they did to the vehicle, and has been super accommodating to turn two unhappy Honda customers to happy ones. As someone who knows not much about cars, John and the mechanic Sam took the time to assist with EVERY question. Overall treatment was 100x better. I am still in the middle of reimbursements and reports with the previous dealerships, but VIP honda has been a pleasure to work with. read more

There were some small issues with the car and he was completely willing to help with everything and make sure we were 100% satisfied with the purchase. I had an issue with the roller on the sliding door of the van purchased here. Under warranty, the service department replaced the roller, now 2 months later, this roller is broken again and causing a safety issue with the door. After asking Robert Poland, the service manager to repair the door again, he insisted that I'm opening the door to hard and it's my fault and he won't back up his work and repair the faulty roller that his service man originally repaired, unsuccessfully. I now have had to file a complaint with the Honda corporate offices that are investigating the case and have told me that they honor a 12 month repair warranty on all their work. So now I must wait until Honda corporate tells VIP Honda to repair the work that they had done poorly in the first place. It seems that Robert Poland has no problem passing the buck or pointing fingers at everyone but himself. read more
