I started at mile 0 at Jamestown Settlement.

This is the best trail or atleast best one I have had the privilege of riding on. 52.1 miles (one way) of open, paved trail for anything except motors. It challenges you not just in distance and hills but you learn about yourself. When there are not random people to say hi to, swerve around or stop behind its just you, your bike and the trail. The trail runs from Jamestown Settlement to Richmond. Estimated time of arrival is based on your speed, weather conditions, scenic photo spots and breaks. The trail is a smooth black top paved trail all the way. There are sporadic stops necessary in crossing busy streets or driveways. There were 2 main trailhead areas. Trailhead areas allow you to take a break, stretch your legs, use the facilities, read the map, and munch on a snack. The trailhead area also have parking lots allowing you to jump on the trail at different areas. Along the way I did see a few benches as well as a put stop that included a bike pump. There are some "nice" hills to challenge you ) or exhaust you). Luckily when you go up you get to glide down most of the time. Bridges are sprinkled around on the trail as well. Those on the trail are a mixture of professional or semi professional bikers to people just out and about. Most people announced they were about to pass me and I actually even passed a few. I stopped on the side to switch my phone and was even asked if I was ok. I was never on the trail for more than 5 minutes or so without someone passing by. Then in areas you are also riding near the road. This all provided me peace of mind. I didn't notice any lights so I would head out early and be off it by dusk. I'm sure a deer or two and maybe a skunk might take you out while riding by. Look up the map and familiarize yourself with where you may want to stop to help you stay focused and motivated but it really is an awesome ride. I made it on a mountain bike but would like to try it again on a road bike.

Less than a year away from completion! According to its website, the trail will be open in its entirety from Richmond to Jamestown on September 1, 2015. I'm a frequent user of the east end of the trail, which has been completed for several years. While there isn't a ton to see, it makes for a really pretty run- especially during fall foliage- and is pancake flat from Jamestown to the Chickahominy River. Starting from Jamestown, the first two miles of the trail parallel Greensprings Road in James City County before converging with and paralleling Route 5 for its duration. The entire stretch through Charles City County (about 20 miles) is now complete. I made it about 4 or so miles into the county approaching from the east on my long run this weekend. I only passed one other group of runners in that stretch (whereas in James City I passed several groups of runners and cyclists). I highly encourage going out early in the morning when the sun is rising. SO peaceful and beautiful. The foundation's website is very useful and has a map that shows where you can park along the trail. Surprisingly, many "experienced" cyclists still favor using the road to the trail. As a runner I'm not complaining.

Great safe place to ride, could use a few fill stations along the way. Just bring plenty of water and you'll have a good time

There is so much to explore here and offers something for every level of stepper. Whether you're looking for an intense hike or just a leisurely stroll, this is a great spot to be. The park has multiple entrances and different access points which would make multiple visits here still feel fresh. The park is very hilly and has a lot of inclines so keep that in mind. Once you get down to the park you'll be greeted by the lake trail where you can walk in a loop around the stunning lake. You can also do catch and release fishing here which I saw multiple people doing. While the lake trail is paved, this park also has a variety of cobblestone and natural trails as well. The walks are pretty shaded and all have stunning views of either greenery or some water component. This is a great walking spot if you're wanting to really dive into nature and experience some stunning views. This is definitely a more mild intensity walk mainly because of the inclines, they also have stair entrances to get on the trail as well. There were quite a few people on the trail, consisting of families, groups and even solo walkers. Despite its almost secluded nature this park felt relatively safe with the amount of people present. You may want a trail buddy if veering into the natural trails but the paved lake loop was pretty open making it feel safe for solo walkers. Overall, with its variety of entrances, views, and the moderate challenge, this park is a great choice for regular walkers and nature lovers!

We arrived around 5:30pm and spent until about 7pm exploring all the walking paths. There is something here for everyone. There is a huge playground for little ones, there are paths for walkers/runners/dog walkers, and there were even a bunch of people fishing in the lakes. I love how child-friendly this park is. It felt like most of the bridges, benches, and other fun structures were made by girl or boy scouts. There is a huge parking lot so it's easy to drive to this spot. They also have very clean restrooms. We didn't go in to the nature center, but that was pretty too. I liked that this park had a lot to explore. The water was low enough at one section for us to go to a little island in the middle of one lake. While not all the trees have their leaves yet, I image this is even prettier when everything is in bloom. It was a very serene and lovely place to explore.

Three Lakes is a gem of a park not far from Richmond proper. This place has plenty of parking, lots of playground equipment, and (as the name suggests) three small lakes to walk around. It's worth noting that the main lake (closes to the park entrance) is where fishing is permitted and has the newest/nicest path as well. The middle lake is enjoyable though is a bit rougher. The far lake was damaged in storms in the past so some of it is pretty rough but still enjoyable to explore. I make sure to hit all three lakes every visit, though if you want a nice clean experience, stick to the main lake. The nature center is nice but fair warning: it's pretty small and won't take more than 10-15 minutes to enjoy in its entirety. Still, the staff member there tends to be nice and there are a few small animals in the little displays there. If you want a fun place to walk (especially if you have kids who like playground equipment), this is a great spot to do it. Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Beautiful walking spot. - Pleasant staff. - Lots of free parking. - Fun (if small) nature center. - Plenty of playground equipment for kids. Cons: - It would be great if they fully re-built the third lake, though I suppose the rugged nature of it is part of the charm.
