I can't comment on how well they actually tattoo. I can comment on the fact that one of the artists received my $50 deposit, then stopped texting me on the days prior to my appointment. When my husband called the shop, we were told that the artist had a family emergency and that they weren't able to get in contact with his clients. So we allowed the week to go by, hoping eventually the artist would get back to me once his family emergency was resolved. When he finally did a week after my appointment date, I told him that I wouldn't be getting my tattoo after all and would like my deposit. He then stopped texting me. When we called the shop, we told them about how the artist stopped texting when I asked about my deposit back. The shop called me back and left a voicemail. When I called them back, they never answered. And I haven't gotten a call since. So it's been weeks and I never got my deposit back. I'm out $50, nothing from the tattoo artist or the shop since the last time I called. So I guess beware of who you set your appointment with. Seems like they're okay with keeping their client's deposits and just ghosting them. read more

I submitted a request for a consultation with Scuba Steve through the VCT website, and was called to come in about a week later. I explained to Steve in clear detail what I wanted, paid my $100 deposit, and scheduled an appointment for about a month later. I was told that I would meet with Steve a week before the appointment to go over the design and make final adjustments. I was never contacted for that meeting, and when I called VCT to inquire, they told me that Steve said that it was fine, and to just come in on the actual appointment date. On the day of the appointment, Steve arrived about half an hour after my scheduled arrival time, and then provided a design that was missing half of what I requested, and the major focal point of the tattoo. When I confronted him about it, he said that that element wouldn't work and that he couldn't do it. I asked if he could do a quick sketch to add it in, and he said I would have to reschedule since he had an appointment after mine. As the secondary part of the tattoo had personal meaning to me, I chose to move forward with it, and we agreed that I would come in in a week or so to finish the tattoo. The work took about 3 hours, including a 20-minute break and about 20-30 minutes of chatting. He also indicated that the appointment after mine (and the reason that he couldn't adjust his design to accommodate what I had asked for to begin with) didn't actually exist. When I went to pay, I was told that the deposit I paid a month earlier would not be applied to that day's tattoo, and that I could instead use it for the second half when I came in. Steve told me that he would contact me in about a week to schedule it that appointment. Well, that was in September. I've messaged him several times on Instagram but received no response. At this point I have given up on working with him again. VCT still has my $100 deposit. Scuba Steve is EXTREMELY talented, don't get me wrong, but I get the feeling that he's very arbitrary about the amount of effort and professionalism he invests in his clients. read more

I got a tattoo done by Chelsea about a month ago, and it's healed so nicely, I love it!! She even told me that if I wasn't happy with how it looked later on she would do a touch up for me. She is very light handed to the point of almost not being able to feel any pain during the appointment. She is super sweet and extremely professional!! I was so surprised when she told me that she hasn't been tattooing for that long cause her work is that of someone who's been in the business for a long time! I have been looking for an artist I can stick to for the rest of my tattoos and I'll definitely be coming back to Chelsea for any more pieces I plan on doing in the future!!! read more

I don't know anything about the other tattoo artist. However, ScubaSteeve was one I was interested in getting a piece from. He requested $50 for the appointment which I sent through his Venmo. Failed to make a first appointment and when I attempted again he asked me my availability and I provided it. Only to not get a response. After 3 weeks I sent him a message asking for my money back since he never even made an appointment for me to come in. And he left me on read. Real professional. I really would have been fine with another appointment even if it was a longer wait. But to take my money and leave me clueless is really unfair. He refuses to own up and face anything. I just want my money back, the last thing I want from that man is him doing anything permanent on my skin. read more

Virginia Class Tattoo is an amazing shop! The staff is always welcoming, informative, and attentive to my needs. This shop is mostly known for black and white tattoos...however, Colton does fantastic works of color. I have been going to Colton for over a year now and have received 6 beautiful tattoos from him (jelly fish, sea horse, octopus, sting ray, turtle, and angler fish). Coltons designs are consistent and well executed. He uses the references that I send in and puts his personal twist on them! Colton also remains professional throughout the entire process. If you're considering this shop for your next tattoo, don't go to Scubasteve (Steve Chung). He's very unprofessional and disrespectful. He does not keep up his inbox and takes days to respond to an email. He claims that he doesn't check his email as often, despite him linking it to his Instagram account. If he were a true a businessman, he would be checking his email at least once a day (or more, considering it's linked to his account). If you choose to DM him on Instagram, don't expect a response either. When he does respond to emails (after a week) he will be extremely snappy, as if you're the reason the booking process is taking weeks. Every time you email him, even if you respond within seconds, you'll have to send a reminder email after a few days. This man is clearly all about the money. HAVE HIM BOOK YOU AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE PUTTING DOWN A DEPOSIT!!! He will take your online deposit (and process it through the shop system) before verifying that your schedules align, then he won't respond for a while and you'll have to send him a reminder email to make sure he's not scamming you. His attitude is disgusting and he has 0 customer service. Forget asking him questions or trying to get comfortable with the man that will be permanently engraving your body with his art. You'll be met with a short temper. I'm sure the other artists at this shop are great and I'm sure Steve is too, but he just has horrible customer service. read more

The staff is all very friendly and in the shop feels like they all work really well together. While getting my tattoo done by Scuba Steve, other artists would walk over to check out his work and compliment him. They all talked to each other and seemed to be a big happy family! The tattoo I received was beautiful! I really could not have asked for a better outcome! That being said... the process to get a tattoo was a little rocky. I gave a $100 deposit (because it was a larger piece, not a problem!) but didn't receive an appointment date or time, which I probably wouldn't have given the deposit if I knew that he wasn't setting up an appointment. He said he'd contact me in a few weeks to set one up. Ok. No big deal. Then I started reading other reviews about him (which were not that great). I follow almost all of the artists in this shop on Instagram and they seem to all do beautiful work! So I started to get nervous about an appointment that might not happen after I have given a $100 deposit! I texted and didn't get a response do I emailed the shop, which responded in about a day, just to check on things. This is a busy time of the year to get a tattoo and I knew that. A few days later Scuba texted me asking about my availability for the following week. Awesome! It was finally happening! So I gave him my availability and heard nothing back. That was on a Tuesday, so I gave him the whole week to get back to me and nothing. I texted him Saturday and he texted me back Sunday asking about my availability for that following Tuesday! Ok sweet! He didn't give me a time but told me to be there as early after 4 as possible. Ok awesome! The tattooing went well and everything went smoothly. It was about $150 more than what was quoted originally, but it is a large tattoo and it took roughly 4 hours. I was honestly a little shocked (I'm so used to small town prices lol) but I don't think it was unreasonable for the intricacy and detail he put in to this tattoo. I absolutely love it and would recommend anyone who is getting black work done to go to this shop. They were very clean and I really did like the atmosphere. The lack of communication was a little worrisome but other than that I am very pleased with my experience here. read more

I wouldn't recommend going here for your first tattoo. I went almost a year ago to get my first at this place and as soon as I walked in I immediately felt very unwelcome and very uncomfortable. The people at the salon were not very friendly and did little to make me feel welcome. The entire time I felt judged, as this was my first tattoo, and they did little to explain to me how the entire process worked. Keep in mind I did a lot of research on my tattoo before hand. To make matters worse, the whole process felt rushed. Clinton was my artist and throughout the process he seemed very uninterested and I frankly feel like he just "went through the motions". It definitely did not seem like he wanted to be there or wanted to do my tattoo which made the experience a lot worse. The tattoo then came out a little crooked and not what I had originally intended. It was a simple quote on my rib cage and I ultimately felt like it was done much higher up than anticipated. As a result I frequently think about this experience and regret doing business at this place. Almost a year later and I still think about this experience and how it could have been a lot better if the staff were more welcoming and friendly and acted engaged and interested throughout the process. I'm really disappointed with the result of my tattoo and really wish things could have been better. read more

So I went to a free event this parlor had and it was a complete waist of time, I know the event was about "peace and love" but they could not even own up to their mistake. So the event was from 12pm-8pm they had preset tattoos to choose from and that was basically all the information they gave aside from what was needed to get in. We arrived at 10:40 the line was long but not awful, at around 11:40ish they came out and did their walk with the crowd and cheered to post to instagram. So 12 doors open and the first group goes in, then a second group about 1hr ,there was no system or accountability, peoples friends showed up an hours later and hopped right in with them.(Now not many complained since we would all get seen since we were there right?) The line moved up once again and they came out and did a full count, the guy said we are going to be over 200 and kept counting. That was the last time any of there people came outside to actually acknowledge the crowd personally. A video guy came out again sometime before 4pm. At 4pm we made it to the door wait time between groups was 2 hours which made no sense what so ever. When we got to the front the customers we made markers with were still just sitting in the hall way. We saw a handful with actual tattoos, we made it to the corner before the door 6pm and did not move again after that, they "ran out of materials" at 7:20pm which if they had counted of planned they would have known.... oh wait they did count and could have gone at 12pm to get more supplies. A few people got angry towards the end waiting all day and then they say "we only have supplies left for 27 peopl" Not an apology in sight and then they gave out vouchers for if you spend 100 you get the free one from the event or 20% any other tattoo. WTF!!!! Why would i give them my business after that experience? Then come to find out through facebook people who got in had extras added, what is the point of preset rules if you cant follow them yourself. This is a shady parlor and the two artists involved should have handled it way better than this, they also keep deleting facebook comments and instagram comments that are negative on this matter so just shows even more what kind of people they are. read more
