I have been with VACU for many, many years. (more than 20 years) I am currently so disgusted with this place that I cannot find the words to tell you just how horrible it is. The more technology this place acquires, the worse it gets! Hard to believe isn't it!! They screw things up so badly, it takes months to get things straightened out! They have 3 locations here in Fredericksburg but only one is usable by a sedan type of car. The other two branches have the ATM and "teller machines" so high that you are not able to reach them is you drive a sedan. And, on top of that, two branches have arranged to have the screens in the drive thru facing into the sun. Of course you cant see them, it's just like trying to see your phone in the bright sun! If VACU can't even build a relatively simple square building correctly, I am very concerned about them building anyone's bank accounts... Additionally, I have found that the employees (although quite friendly and smile a lot), will lie to you about anything to acquire your money from you. You'll do great banking there as long as you don't trust ANYONE. Don't say you haven't been warned!!! read more

I received false information from a branch representative. This Credit Union is not transparent with their credit card offers. You can't easily get to an appropriate live representative either for help with your banking needs. Customer service is lacking to say the least. Their website to send an email doesn't even work properly! In my humble opinion, without going into all the details (as I have already wasted too much time and got no where with this organization), I would shop around for somewhere else! read more

I am writing a negative review due to the lack of customer service by corporate Virginia Credit Union. I had an issue and contacted Virginia Credit Union Customer Service line. The first C.S. Rep was very uninterested in handling my request and so I asked for a member of management to contact me. I did not hear from one in the following few days, so contacted C.S. again and asked for a member of management again. I was contacted by a manager and she was as uninterested in the conversation as the first rep so I asked to speak with a V.P. I have never received a call back from a V.P. I contacted the B.B.B. and the NCUA and filed complaints. I received a letter today from a Executive V.P. I find this to be a cowardly solution and lack of real world customer service... and at the EXECUTIVE level, you should be ashamed. I have closed my credit card and checking account and will let EVERYONE know, you have become the worst in Customer Service. Great job Virginia Credit Union, you become one of the worst banks, great job! read more

The bank it self is too far out of reach for me but it seems to be very popular for the locals. For the short amount of time that I was there, I would say that approximately 30 people walked in and out in an hour. The facility is very clean and welcoming and their customer service is a lot better than other banks. I don't have an account here personally but my family members do and they have never run into any problems in the past, which is the reason why I'm granting them the 5 stars ;) read more

You will NEVER find a financial institution that will take as good a care of you as VACU. They are absolutely incredible. Their staff is only there to help you and get you to the place you need to be. I am thrilled that they offer every kind of service from savings, checking, investments, real estate, financial counseling and offer the best rates of any credit union or bank for mortgage loans, car loans and personal loans, as well as the best interest rates on CD's and savings. Also they do not fee you to death like the banks and are always there for you. If you bank then you need to make the switch. They are a step up in your financial world. read more

My banking needs are simple. I need my deposits to go through smoothly, my account kept straight, and, occasionally, I need documents notarized. I mostly bank online. It was a huge help for me recently when the Gordon Shelton Blvd. branch kindly notarized my will, power of attorney, and living will (free of charge). I wish they had a branch in Woodbridge, but the local Bank of America can be used for ATM, and deposits can be done by phone. read more

I made 2 deposits on a Friday night and now it's Monday night and my funds are not available yet so I can't pay my rent plus 2 checks bounce and the bank will not refund the service charges of $70 because they say the money is not there. This is bad customer service. I don't have money just to throw away. read more

Started a home mortgage loan process during the spring of this year. Submitted all my financial information, taxes, income documentation, etc. Found a house but the house was to be built and expected to be ready early Nov. The expectations were I would qualify for a USDA loan with no down payment. The loan officer never submitted the information to underwriter until early Nov. after which it was discovered I didn't qualify for the USDA loan. Therefore, now to find out my down payment has changed from no down payment to over $12,000.00. And did I say the house is complete and I am ready to close in 1 week. I feel the bank/mortgage department should take some responsibility in their irresponsible loan officer. In the end the bank will benefit and gain from my financial loss. read more

We have been banking with Virginia Credit Union for 14 years and for the last year 4 out of 5 our immediate family members have had their debit cards compromised. Each time we have inquired about the chip card and the same answer is relayed "we are working on it, it was supposed to be Jan 2016 and it should be in June 2016." Here it is July 4 and once again one of our accounts has been compromised. Even after a call was made this past week, charges are still being debited effective July 5. It's very sad that as large as Va Credit Union is, they seem to be sitting on their hands and doing nothing to protect their members. Maybe with the new CEO coming into play somethings will happen. But as of right now, my family and I will be shopping for a new bank. read more

They had an opportunity to help me, but they chose to follow policy which left me homeless. I had deposited a large check from my former government employer and they initially partially cleared it so I had access to some of my money. The next day they took the money back and put a hold on the rest. The branch said I could have my money on the 21st. So did the toll free number, but here it is the 21st and now say tomorrow. read more

I agree with both of the other reviews - overall, credit unions are much better than banks and VACU provides usually terrific service - and yes there's probably some friends, business associates and wealthier people who get breaks on mistakes while those who can't afford it suffer. But, my complaint with them is that they've never improved their telephone service, maintaining what appears to be an automatic transfer to the main office at around 100th in line while calling a local branch number. In other words, the local branch (at least in Fredericksburg) never answers and you wait 30+ minutes for Richmond to respond. This is a grave disservice to their customers. Hilariously, this is one aspect where Banks probably give a smidgen better service than VACU. You ought to fix this problem for your customer's sake. read more

Bad service at its best, although I have had outstanding service over the last three decades as a member. Over the weekend, I stopped by the Route 1 branch at Massaponax to drop off a vehicle payment and discovered that they do not have a drop box! I slipped the payment envelope under the front door and called this a.m. to verify that it was received and processed. After 15 minutes on hold, I reached a lady who at my request, provided the branch manager's name and the generic Richmond address and who called the branch to verify receipt of my payment for me; yep, another wait! She returned and verified the receipt of my payment, but relayed the message from the branch admonishing me that they "would accept and process my payment THIS TIME, but in the future, I will have to travel to Gordon W Shelton Blvd. (across town to the main branch) where they have a drop box!" They will not accept any additional payments at the Route 1 location in one of their payment envelopes. Short of driving an extended distance to express my dissatisfaction in person and to speak with the branch manager to request that they install a drop box, my options are limited. The published VACU phone number routes to a Richmond call center which ensures that members cannot reach anyone who makes important decisions. I have approximately 30 years of experiences with VACU, most of them positive, and I have seen it diminish from a fantastic experience to something significantly less! The nerve to suggest that I make my payments elsewhere because they don't have enough foresight to have a drop-box! Given the VACU is closed on the weekends, why have a satellite branch on Route 1 if not to make for convenient payments for members? I am a member with several other credit unions and I really do not need to continue my patronage with customer service this poor! read more
