Terrible customer service from start to finish. I was repeatedly given inaccurate information and empty promises. The service manager had me speak with a mechanic who recommended that I leave my car for a week so they could diagnose the issue. I was told to call back on Tuesday for an update, but when I did, no one had any answers. I was simply told they were still waiting for an update. Meanwhile, my vehicle still has the same problems--it jerks while driving, the RPMs stay between 3,000 and 4,000 before slowly dropping, and it doesn't feel safe to drive. Because of these unresolved issues, my teenager can't even drive our new car. After being promised they would look at my car this week, I was later told it would actually be another week before they could even inspect it. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with a regional manager to address my concerns, I wasn't connected to one at all--I was simply transferred back to the service manager. That made it feel like no one was willing to take responsibility or help resolve the situation. The lack of communication, broken promises, delays, and poor customer service have made this an extremely frustrating experience. I expected much better treatment after purchasing a new vehicle. In April 2024, I purchased a 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe believing I'd found a reliable vehicle with the features I wanted. Within months, that belief started to unravel. The fuel door malfunctioned. The backup camera needed replacement. The USB port failed. The car wasn't even properly detailed at delivery and had to go back for cleaning. Annoyances, yes--but I assumed a reputable brand and its dealership would make things right. The real trouble began with the panoramic sunroof. On the one‑year anniversary of my purchase April 2025 I left the Santa Fe with Pohanka Hyundai of Fredericksburg for a sunroof that had become temperamental. From the outset, communication was poor. My assigned advisor didn't provide regular updates; then he was out on paternity leave, and silence followed. I discovered--only after I called--that my advisor had left the company and that the Customer Service Manager, Fred, would be my new point of contact. Fred's regular updates didn't begin until I posted publicly on the dealership's Facebook page. After the Fourth of July in 2025, I finally got the vehicle back only for the sunroof to fail again. On August 12, 2025, I returned the Santa Fe for repair a second time. That was five months ago. Today is January 14, 2026, and my car remains unrepaired. I've stopped by the dealership repeatedly, and each time I find the Santa Fe in the same spot, week after week, now stained with bird droppings and sitting on a flat tire. Again, no one was updating me and their words no longer carry any weight. Because the dealership wasn't resolving the issue, I escalated to Hyundai Motor America. I asked for reimbursement for the months I've been paying for a vehicle I cannot use. Corporate refused to cover more than three months of car payments, citing policy, declined a buyback, and has been nonresponsive. I'm stuck in loaners, paying for a car that has been in the dealership's possession for repair for nearly a year, unable to enjoy the vehicle I purchased in good faith. I chose Hyundai for its reputation and the Santa Fe for the accessories and conveniences that made day‑to‑day life easier. What I've experienced instead has been a long, discouraging nightmare: months of poor communication, changing points of contact without notice, a repeated mechanical defect, and a vehicle left to deteriorate while I continue to make payments. There has been no empathy, no ownership of the problem, and no meaningful path to resolution--just delays, backorder explanations, and policies that deny practical relief. read more

I contacted the service department and described to Steve my problem. A simple "software reflash" was all that was needed. He tried to sell me some unneeded "diagnostics" service, and hinted my problem would not be covered under the 10 year warranty program, which it is. I came to Pohanka Hyundai because my airbag light was on and I asked for a full diagnostic (SRS, TCM, BCM, not just the engine). They told me "no codes were found," but the paper I got back only restated my complaint and a basic inspection -- nothing about codes at all. When I asked Fred at the desk what he would do in my situation, he told me I should "just be grateful" I didn't have to pay and to take the car, airbag light still on. That is not what you expect from a dealership that's supposed to have the tools and training to handle safety issues. Five minutes away, Affordable Automotive found the real issue (a failed clock spring) within 24 hours. Pohanka wasted my time and dismissed a serious safety concern. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Do not bring your vehicle here if you have any other choice! I had my car checked by my regular mechanic. The engine code they got back was related to a recall/known failure. I called ahead to Pohanka and drove over. Unfortunately for me, it was the closest dealership When I went to drop it off, there were about as many patrons as workers. Somehow, everyone was waiting. There was no real greeting. No acknowledgement of a wait time. I watched the employees bicker and bully each other. Example - they were looking for a specific set of keys. One guy said (in a tone) that he didn't know where they were. Another guy huffed and stomped back around a corner. When he came back, he announced they were in the key storage "where they belong!" looing directly at the first guy. There was a younger African American man working who was super nice and seemed embarrassed by everyone else, but just tired to keep his head down. He was clearly just a decent person trying to do his job surrounded by bullies. Eventually, they took my keys and told me that it would be 10 (yes, ten) weeks before they DO THE TEST. Not before it would be done. Before they could TEST it. I talked to the manager and he said he'd look into the 10-week timeframe and "see what he could do" and then call me about it. He did not. Never heard from him. I didn't have a choice, so I left my car and got a rental. The next day I was able to call Koons in Woodbridge. Night and day difference! What a nice and competent group of people. I told them the issues i was having and they tried to hide that this was on par for Pohanka. They never spoke against them, but i could read between the lines. They said i could very carefully drive my car to them and call if it broke down, so that's what i did. Thankfully it didn't break down! Koons couldn't get me in right away, but they were able to fit me in the next week. They got me a loaner car because this was a class action issue. Everything was smooth sailing from there, once I was away from Pohanka. Rude, disrespectful, and incompetent. Don't go there! read more

We had been shopping for cars for a while. We went in to Pohanka Hyundai to look at the Palisade as one of our options. We worked with Halley there who was wonderful. She was highly knowledgeable, patient and very helpful. She was not pushy or rushing us. Her style is very much laid back and help you explore options. It's the car buying experience you want. We also interacted with the manager ( his name escapes me at the moment) there who was very kind and knowledgeable as well. No pressure from him and he was actually able to provide additional information , which was helpful in comparing our different options. The finance team also was helpful ( a power outage in the area threw a wrench in that) but they worked with us to get our car in the time frame we needed which was great. I took my Hyundai in for service. My a/c compressor was loud and not cooling well. They diagnosed that it needed to have the condenser replaced. They informed me that my factory warranty would not cover the repair. 1800.00 to fix it. I argued that it was still under warranty. They told me it was rusted. The car is less than 4 years old. Then they changed the story and said it was damaged from an accident. Fred the service manager even said he looked at my car himself. I took my car to Sheehy Hyundai in Waldorf. They replaced the noisy a/c compressor and the leaking condenser. Totally under factory warranty. My a/c works great and cost me nothing . Great Job Sheehy. I would avoid Pohanka Hyundai. read more

They earned three loyal customers with their willingness to work with our budgets and by actively listening to our must-haves in a new car. Long version: My mom, sister, and I had been leasing Kias for about 15 years, combined. Our leases were scheduled to expire early 2025, so we went to the dealership to get new cars; unfortunately, because of current interest rates, they essentially told us they had nothing in our price range, there was nothing they could do, and we left incredibly disappointed. Mom and I felt backed into a corner to buy out our leases, but my sister did not like her K5 and wanted to look elsewhere. We ultimately went to Pohanka Hyundai of Fredericksburg for my sister to test drive a new car to get at the end of her K5 lease.
