Cute bookstore and busy with locals and those wandering. Tons of selection to find your next great read or gift a friend.

So this is where everyone has been getting that cool shot of the authors on the staircase! Color me surprised when I found out it was located in my favorite neighborhood of Atlanta... I came here on a Sunday afternoon after a brunch at Academy Coffee/Kinship Butcher so it was a short walk across the road. They were doing a sale outside, but I wanted to go in for the ~full~ experience. The bookstore was busy when I visited yet didn't feel shoulder to shoulder. I perused both the main floor and the basement. I felt safe and comfortable and in the company of folks who appreciate good literature, cute bookstores, or both! I took home a few novels, as well as a coffee table book for my new condo - Accidentally Wes Anderson - which has pictures of places in the real world that are reminiscent of the film auteur's cinematography. The cashier was super nice and even offered to discard my empty coffee cup from Academy Coffee. They provide you a reusable tote bag for your purchase which I absolutely adore! Sustainability and small business? Yes!

If you're a book enthusiast, this place is a must-visit! They offer a diverse range of books, including selections for kids, health, crime, politics, the mind, fiction, and more. They also provide limited seating for reading. I can't comment much on the service because there weren't many employees around when I visited, but the atmosphere is absolutely delightful. I've noticed that many photographers come here to capture images, especially of their famous staircase. While you might find some books cheaper online, the prices here are quite reasonable, considering their extensive selection and fantastic deals on other books.

If you are craving an independent bookstore, Virginia Highland Bookstore in Atlanta, Georgia is the respite you are looking for. A little over two years ago a stay at home mom walked past an empty store front and decided it needed to be a bookstore. The result is this beautiful, airy oasis for booklovers with the most welcoming atmosphere. I've experienced in a long time. The Virginia Highland neighborhood has always been charming, but this addition to the neighborhood is epic!

I came here today at 10 to check out the recently opened Virginia Highlands Books. I asked the manager and she told me they've been open for about 2 months. The word is definitely out though as they were pretty busy while I was there. They have an expansive book selection with a wide variety of different genres: fiction, children's books, young adult, fantasy, thriller, horror, sci-fi and mythology. The second level houses the lifestyle books - think interior design, cooking, health, autobiographies, religion, and music. Apart from the wide selection, this is just a nice, well designed space (exposed brick, hardwood floors, and this beautiful ornate tiled ceiling). There's also a lot of seating if you'd like to hang out there and read. As you're coming back up the stairs they have names of famous authors on the steps which I thought was really cute. Staff were helpful when I asked questions. Since I spent my over $50 I got a free Virginia Highlands Books tote (woohoo!). Since this is the Highlands, it's street parking so keep that in mind. Overall, I plan to come back and recommend checking them out!

This is quite the hidden gem of a bookstore in Atlanta! This place feels very cozy and calming. There are countless books throughout the entire store sorted by genres. They even have a downstairs area filled with additional books as well as periodicals and magazines. The store almost transports you back in time, because there are sooooo many older and vintage copies of books. They even have some signed books for sale too! I saw a Dr. Seuss booked that was signed by the man himself...pretty cool if I do say so myself! The signed copies vary, but definitely take a look when you're there! It would make a super cool gift for someone. Another cool thing, is that they have 2 store cats! You will most likely find them by the front desk with the employees. One was napping when I came and the other was sitting right by the desk. The books all vary in price. It kinda just depends on what you get. I'll definitely be back in the future to take a further look!

There is paid parking lot right outside the front of the store with several other areas for parking nearby but we walked over from MARTA and it was a breeze. The store is huge! There are sooooo many books and I love the layout. The signage makes it super easy to find what you're looking for and the staff are super helpful. The bookstore itself is so inviting and the kiddos loved playing in the play area where they could interact with other kiddos, read a book, and play with trains. There is a wide selection of books for allll sorts of folks, genres, ages and I appreciated how inclusive the selections were. We definitely came out with a ton of books and I'm sure we'll be back soon for more! Read more books!!!!

I love this little bookstore!…read more Well, there's nothing little about the space and endless opportunities to find literary greatness at this bookstore in the heart of Decatur. I've had the opportunity to visit Little Shop of Stories numerous times since I moved to Atlanta, but my visits totally hit differently now that I'm a mom. As someone raised by a teacher (with help from Reading Rainbow and Levar Burton), I've passed this onto my son although he can't read yet, lol. So we are always adding to his little library as he grows. Beyond books, Little Shop of Stories also carries so many fun educational toys for kids and books for readers of all ages. It's so easy to get lost in their large collections, but luckily they keep it incredibly organized and make it easy to find whatever your imagination can dream of. After finding a few goodies to take home to my little one, I strolled around the store a bit more and took in the whimsical vibes. Just being in there lifted my mood! Seriously a wonderful place to transport yourself into the magical world of books and discovery, no matter your age.

My Review of the Book Crook: Waiting 48 Years to Leave This Google Review…read more On my 13th birthday decades ago, my parents opened a small new-and-used bookstore called The Book Trading Post here in the Atlanta area. They ran it successfully for 12 years. My father had connected with Alex, the owner of the original Book Nook on or near North Decatur/Clairmont, who promised a great variety of around 30,000 books. What arrived instead were massive duplicates -- 30 to 50 copies of the same titles. It was a horrible, upsetting experience that stayed with my father. At the time I was 13 and didn't really know what it all meant -- I just knew he was upset. My father passed in 1981 after chemotherapy and radiation at Emory. Recently, I brought in a large personal collection to the current Book Nook Decatur location -- over 130 albums plus many books, including rare 1940s-1960s sci-fi classics and a signed copy of Miracle in Atlanta. As a longtime collector of coins, books, comics, historic color brochures, and more, I knew the value easily exceeded $500, likely more. I first spoke with the manager on March 25th of this year. He gave a standard percentage quote and left a message. When I returned on March 27th to collect payment, I received just $70. They kept all the books -- which filled the entire counter on the right when you walk in -- and roughly half the albums. I left with two small suitcases. Walking around the store afterward, I saw their selling prices and realized they stand to make a substantial profit. I spoke with the manager (Doogie, like Doogie Howser from the 1980s show) and then with an employee named Scott, who has been there for years. I shared some of this backstory. Scott was pretend friendly and even suggested I didn't really need to write a bad review. That conversation left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, and that discomfort is exactly why I decided to write this review now. The owner is very old (likely in his late 80s or early 90s) and does not come into the store. I felt the manager was dishonest in the way the offer and process were handled. It all felt like history repeating itself in the worst way -- like a scene from Red Dawn: "Avenge me." In the end, I just took the money to be done with it. This isn't just about one low payout. Most people don't know the old story of The Book Trading Post and that first disappointing deal with the Book Nook. Now the full 48-year circle -- from my parents' store in the 1970s to today -- is part of the public record. If you have anything of real value (books, albums, collectibles), think carefully before bringing it here. Get your own realistic expectations and consider other options. P.S. For comedy purposes, I've officially renamed this place The Book Crook.

I overheard someone say, "This place is huge" and it is. It is much bigger than you think when you see it from the outside. There are so many twists and turns to explore. We took our time and wandered around. You can easily lose track of time. There are a few staff members up front that will help with any questions. They don't have an itemized inventory but they can point you in the right direction. I would definitely recommend this place.
