I love that this winery is so nice! I am sitting my wines. I got a flight of 4 wines Chardonnay Reserve, Fincasle 1772, MCA (white red wine, Petite Vermont Reserve. The lady greeted me when I walked in. She said, "you can sit anywhere". The ambiance is lovely. It's nice to go to the countryside and breathe fresh air. I actually can see the clouds. The temperature was a warm 80 degrees but there is a breeze. This is heaven on earth. I have no care in the world. I forgot to say I like the Chardonnay reserve and the 1772. We took a Sunday trip to explore vineyards and wineries in the area, and Virginia Mountain Vineyards quickly became our favorite stop of the day! The scenery was absolutely beautiful--peaceful, relaxing, and the perfect setting to enjoy some incredible wine. Their selection offered something for everyone, from dry reds and whites to sweet varieties. Our group's favorite was the Virginia White--crisp, smooth, and refreshing. We held my daughter's wedding and reception here this past Saturday. This place is amazing and everyone we worked with there were courteous, professional, and willing to assist up in anyway they could. During this time they were short staffed due to a death in the family but that didn't stop them from going above and beyond to provide an unforgettable experience. Stopped here on the way to Tennessee to have lunch and for a great view. Great parking availability and walked right up to the vineyard tasting location. Was immediately greeted by a nice lady who provided us with a warm place to eat inside and several chairs to accommodate us. We got the wine tasting of four different wines and a diy charcuterie with local meats and cheese. The bathroom was a little walk away and was very clean. Tons of spots to sit and enjoy the view. We had a lovely time at Virginia Mountain Vineyards today. We stopped by on our way to the Sunflower Festival and the view of the mountains/Peaks of Otter was breathtaking. They had several tables at acceptable social distances from one another facing the mountains, as well as a couple of tables and chairs between the house and the event tent/restrooms. On top of the beautiful views and comfortable seating, the wine was some of the best we have tried in Virginia so far. I loved the chocolate and wine pairing flight and my favorites of the day were the Traminette, Holiday Spice, Virginia Red, and Virginia White. If you are looking for a nice day trip, look no further! read more

We really enjoyed our time! They wine was decently priced for the quality and the views are what you're really looking forward to. The staff was AMAZING and really made sure we were happy. We brought our dog and they asked if he needed anything. We also enjoyed their cheese selection. The only suggestion I would make would be to put fans on the patio or in the tent so that when that nice, mountain breeze isn't flowing that there is some kind of air flow on the hot afternoon. read more

The owner of the vineyard will stress the bride and the entire party out. She puts on a song and dance like she is nice as pie until you have already signed your soul away and paid. She yelled at my bride and her party on several occasions while they were having normal fun saying that it was "unacceptable". We had the venue until 11pm that night to clean up. At 10pm the owner told my bride "to get up off her ass" to start cleaning up. She's super unprofessional and I would never recommend this place as a wedding venue. Great wine and beautiful views... those are the only nice words I can provide. read more

Beautiful setting in the Virginia countryside, just outside the town of Fincastle. The area was still adjusting from the massive storm that passed through the area - lots of trees and poles down and power company teams working in the downtown area. The winery was still on generator power but that didn't stop them from providing wines for tasting. Since we were pressed for time we only tasted their reds and found the Cab Franc and Trinity blend to be very good. Once again, this winery also had tents set up for weekend music events. Contrary to the review by David R. we used a GPS and had no problem in locating the winery. In fact, the GPS was our friend for every winery even though I had scoped out locations from the VA wine map. read more

Drove into Roanoke for the day. Decided to take the half hour drive up to Fincastle to visit this winery based on Yelp's review. Hours were listed as open until 6:00 pm. Got there to find a sign in the drive, "Tastings by appointment only". Gave them a call, and they were unable to accommodate us. Total waste of an hour. Don't do as I did, verify that they are open. The winery operator is responsible to verify that the listings on the internet are correct. No bueno. read more

These wineries are off I-81, but don't rely on a GPS to find them. USE A MAP. But Virginia wine lovers will be rewarded with fine wine at good prices. Virginia Mountain Vineyards, like others in this region of Virginia, has ample land to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. This winery makes an excellent Rose (roses are making a comeback in VA), Traminette, and something called "Holiday Spice," which you can warm up in a crockpot and serve as mulled. I absolutely love the views of the mountains and this wedding venue is gorgeous! I was just disappointed in how the owner acted on my wedding day. Even though it was raining a little I still wanted my ceremony outdoors and she kept insisting to have it in the tent. They never put up the chairs for my ceremony, so when I walked down the aisle everyone is standing up.. I have 80 year old grandparents that needed to sit down. It was so embarrassing and sad. Towards the end of the night after the send off at 10pm, shortly after around 10:15 she started raise her voice at us (including the wedding party) to quickly pack everything up and get out. We had the Venue until 11pm and the next morning to pick up our things so I wasn't sure why she was so upset and yelling at everyone. My wedding party did the best to pack up and I appreciate it & they didn't deserve to be yelled at like she did. It definitely put me in a bad mood on my wedding night. The owner was just rude the entire day .. even though she was nice for the whole year I was planning my wedding. She talked to all of us like we were children. I feel like I can't ever go back and visit where I got married. To any brides that want to get married here.. just don't! Unless you want to be stressed out by the owner all day. I'm not the only bride that has gone through this here. read more

Recently went to the winery for their year end Holiday Open House event and had a great time! I really liked the fact that the open house is hosted right in the winery amongst the wine barrels. The live music, wreathmaking, food, and free wine tastings were a nice touch. I have been there on several earlier occasions, and each time the hosts (who are the owner/operators) were very friendly. I appreciate that you really get to see how a small operation like this is really run when you visit; with hard work and passion! I was very impressed with many of the wines, although the Trinity red and Cab Franc stood out, as did the Traminette. read more

We enjoyed a beautiful Spring afternoon here on the patio with some cheese and crackers after a delightful wine tasting. Very enjoyable experience all the way around, the owner was more than happy to share his knowledge of growing and cultivating, and why he mixed certain varietals together. In a different life I would've had a wedding here; it's so pretty. I enjoyed it just as much with my husband and 8 year old. Take a blanket and picnic, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the stunning view. They have foosball, ping pong, and corn hole for the kids (and adults) to play with. I decided to visit this winery while in town from North Carolina because I heard good things about it. Before visiting, we called about the allowance of pets on the property. The woman on the phone said that there was no problem with pets on the property, as long as they were leashed. We arrived at the winery and walked into the tasting room with my Great Dane on a leash. We were greeted by the owners dog and everyone that was inside, to include a couple employees. 5 minutes after entering the tasting room and reading the wine list, an elderly man, whom I assume was the owner, let's his dog into the garage adjacent to the tasting room and then informs me that my dog could not be inside the building because of some ABC law that I've never been told about. I've seen many wineries allow dogs inside and out. Anyways, we decided to just sit the dog outside and still grab some wine, but after being told to wait for the next round of tasting and no one offering us a glass of wine or water.. or really being acknowledged at all.. we left. Perhaps its just me being bitter about the dog thing, but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

My husband and I had the distinct pleasure of being the first wedding held at Virginia Mountain Vineyards. The winery had hosted many concerts and events, but no wedding until June 2014. Marie and David were wonderful to work with, and showed genuine interest in our wedding details, and in our relationship. They worked with other vendors, and created an atmosphere that uniquely fit us, not the other way around. The views from the vineyard, both mountains and vines, are gorgeous. The stone courtyard is a great place to have people either sit and enjoy, or walk around and mingle. We had many kids at our wedding who loved playing in the grass and among the vines. Our unofficial wedding planners appreciated how willing David and Marie were to answer any questions, and to work with them on details. Many of our guests were just in awe at the beauty of the view and surroundings! As we have returned from our honeymoon, the consistent response of our guests has been that our wedding was the best wedding they have ever been to. We believe this has a great deal to do with all the people who helped make it happen, especially Marie and David who made us feel like part of their family. Because of their graciousness, they have also become welcome in our family and we will especially enjoy many visits back to the vineyard for tastings. Our guests raved about the wine and loved the combination of wines we had chosen from the vineyard: Acacia Gold, Traminette, and the Trinity (red). Be sure to have them set up for wine slushies at your event, they were by far the most popular at our wedding! This was only local winery where we loved all of the wine choices, what an awesome variety! The combination of great wine, atmosphere and hospitality won us over for our wedding. My husband and I hope you all take the opportunity to check out this great space.
