    a view of a vineyard

Gorgeous setting & the wine is really good, definitely the best you can find close to Lynchburg! Norman, the owner, is so kind. They have a little room towards the back of the old farmhouse that we sat in for over 2 hours. It was quiet & charming...a nice break from larger wineries that are busy/full. It is a hidden gem & we will definitely be back!

I love it when a winemaker partakes in his/her product when conducting a tasting - it makes for great "bonding" and it usually means the tastings will be generous. LeoGrande is a newer winery on the Bedford wine trail (between Roanoke and Lynchburg) and there's a sign in front of the tasting room that reads something like "Honk your horn if you'd like a tasting--we're probably out in the vineyards." The tasting room, when I visited, was in the kitchen, which isn't my favorite thing, but like another new VA winery (Wolf Gap), a stand-alone tasting room is in the works. There is not a huge selection here, but the wines he has are all very good. I bought his regular Chardonnay and a bottle of his Reserve, which according to the website is no longer available. His chambourcin is very good as well.

Good reds. Owner was very friendly. Off the beaten path but a nice place to stop for a break.

So I was a little unsure whether the wine selection at Beliveau Farm Winery would be for me. But I'm happy to say that these guys are making some great wine. Yvan and Joyce, the owners, know what they are doing in terms of grapes and wine, because they have traveled and enjoyed wine from all around the world. They have a good thing going on here. When I visited, I did a wine tasting, which was paired with different flavored potato chips. So I got to taste several different wines. I'm more of a red wine gal, but one of my favorites at Beliveau is the Crazy Professor, which is a white wine blend: Vidal Blanc, Chardonel, Pinot Gris. They also have a tasty Cab Franc (one of my favorites, too), and another Crazy Professor wine, but this one is a red called The Professor's Crazy Estate Blend, which is Cab Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo. Almost all of my favorites in one bottle! So, yes, you will find some great Virginia wines here. You can enjoy a glass indoors or outdoors. I hope you sit outdoors, though, because the grounds are beautiful and expansive. This place is kid-friendly and pet-friendly, too. There's lots of open space for kids to run around, and some big rocks for them to climb on.
