Went here on Tuesday November 25th 2025 with my parents. We were heading back to NY for a thanksgiving trip to see family. This is one of the first rest stops in virginia, just as one exits North Carolina, right off of I-95 N. Easy to pull in and park, and used the restrooms there. It's a small rest stop with nice bathrooms, vending machines, and a Virginia tourism office. We stopped there to get a few Norfolk tour books. Great family bathroom here! Even had a short, child friendly toilet. Super spacious with two sinks. Only issue is that the baby changing table doesn't stay closed. Probably just needs a couple of screws tightened. read more

3.13.23 This rest area is smaller than other ones, but it is clean which I appreciate. The toilets are low, which is great for someone short like me, but not for taller people. You're pretty much doing your business on the ground. Lol. They have a cute Love sign out front, which makes for a great photo opp. read more

Love this Welcome Center - Virginia definitely has put some thought into this location "it's the first opportunity to make a lasting impression". I've stopped in here a number of times and apparently my last was prior to joining Yelp although that's hard for me to believe. The amenities here are nice, the restrooms have always been very clean and in good working order and a warm and welcoming interior with plenty of information and like others have said most is about promoting "Virginia". Today the traffic on I-95 was fairly light so the number of travelers that were here reflected that. If you need a driving break and you're able to schedule it this definitely should be a consideration. There are plenty of prime outdoor seating opportunities laid out in a peaceful setting so pack your favorite snacks and grab a beverage at one of the vending machines and relax you'll be better for it... read more

This is the Virginia Welcome Center located at Mile Marker 0 as you enter into the state from North Carolina along I-95 North. This welcome center is also called the Skippers Safety Rest Area, so if you see that name, it is the same thing as this welcome center. One thing to note about this welcome center is that only cars are allowed here. Trucks will need to go up the road about 37 miles to their first truck rest area in the state. My most recent visit here was on August 28, 2022. When you drive into the welcome center, you will easily see the big building central to the welcome center. The first thing you need to do is park, and there is ample parking available at this welcome center for the most part. As noted above, due to the size of the welcome center, only cars are allowed to enter. Since I live in this state, I have been to several rest areas and welcome centers over the years. This one is smaller than some other ones, but at least you don't have to worry about trucks. Don't let that fool you though, as there is a lot to explore here, especially inside the building. The visitor center portion of the building is staffed from 8:30 am to 5 pm daily and is on the left side of the building. Here you can get brochures, lodging options, road construction and so forth. Inside, there is also a large compass on the floor, marking the directions. The right side of the building houses all of your indoor vending options, as well as the restrooms. Although the visitor center portion is open select hours, the restrooms and vending are available 24 hours daily. To the left of that building, there is also another small covered outdoor vending area. The restrooms here were well maintained and clean. I have always had that experience too every time I have stopped in here on the way home to Virginia Beach. The vending area inside has lots of drink and snack options as well. They had more options than some other welcome centers and rest areas I have visited in other states. Now, to the grounds of the welcome center. Just outside the building, there is a sign where you can use your phone to rate this welcome center. There is open space to the left, right and back of the welcome center building. The last time I was here there was a small play area to the right of the welcome building, but I did not see it any longer on this visit. They do have several picnic tables and grills that you can use if you wanted to cook something up and eat here. I will note that all of the picnic tables I saw were uncovered. There is a good amount of space to walk around and take in the sights. There is some info in the park areas about the Pollinator Habitat Program too. Most know the slogan for the state is that Virginia is for Lovers. There is a LOVE sign to the left of the welcome center building where you can take some pictures. Right next to that, you will also find the marker for the Blue Star Memorial Highway in Virginia. In the end, this is an excellent welcome center, and have had some great experiences here every time I have stopped in here. You can get just about anything you need to know about the state here. You can also tale a break and stretch the legs. Be sure to explore the state if you can, since there's lots to love about the state. I do have a tip for those of you that stop here and are heading to eastern Virginia (Hampton Roads) along US 58 East. When traveling through Emporia and Southampton County, be sure to watch your speed. Emporia alone is nicknamed the speed trap capital for the state. There are no rest areas along US 58 East heading to the coast as well. If your travels take you to this welcome center, it is totally worth stopping in. read more

Virginia does a darned good job with this rest area and welcome center just over the border from North Carolina near Emporia Virginia. This is a great spot as you're coming up from the south as you can either continue north on I-95 from here or follow US-58 east to Virginia Beach or West to the Tennessee border. Restrooms, vending, and a welcome center that has information and pamplets on all sorts of tourist destinations in the great Commonwealth of Virginia. The Skippers Virgina Welcome Center is just about as nice as you can get offering everything a guest could possibly want. However, parking is limited during peak periods of travel. This is the reason I have been by this area, but never stopped with a typical back up of traffic. A new trend is corporate sponsors to help defer the cost to the state. Thank you Geico. The Virginia Welcome Center is located on I95 NB, just across the North Carolina border. They moved the previous center a few miles South around two years ago. I found the parking area tidy. There is vending outside, but the machines had signs out of order. There is also the opportunity for a photo op at the "Virginia is for Lovers" sign. Picnic tables are plentiful and shaded by trees. The rest area was completed in early 2017 and offers not only updated restrooms, but a staffed center during hours. The woman I spoke with was friendly and provided basic information needed. She will also sell you Virginia peanuts if interested. The interior offers four restrooms, two women and two men across from each other. A family restroom in the rear is a nice amenity. A good amount of vending is offered. An eating area with bar and two tables is unique. Two flat screen TV's had the Weather Channel on. The entire area was clean. I used the number #1 of #2 men's room. The #2 room was closed off for cleaning. I found the restroom overall clean, however urine was all over the floor in my area. Everything worked and the facility had proper supplies. The trash bin had reached its capacity. There is a toddler stool and a sink that is wheel chair accessible in both men's and women's restrooms. Also nice is a water bottle refill station outside the room. This is a great stop for travelers and recommend. The only limitation is parking as I see it when busy. 4.5 rounding down. read more

I have stopped here many times over the years, the best rest area/ welcome center I have seen. I won't wax on poetically about it, but rather just hit a few highlights. It is pleasant inside and out, plenty of vending items, a welcome center with brochures, a huge map of Virginia, a counter near vending to recharge devices while you eat at inside tables. A giant LOVE sign you can pose inside the letter "O" to post on social media, and even learning moments on large signs outside with information about George Washington. You get the idea. read more

Very spacious and clean bathrooms! They even have a dedicated toddler stall inside the women's restroom (not sure if there's one in the men's restroom too). There's a family restroom, vending machines, outside picnic area, big LOVE sign out front to take pictures with, and welcome center. There aren't any restaurants here like other rest stops but it's a great place to stretch your legs, take a breather, and use the bathroom on your next road trip. read more

"Virginia is for lovers" is a state slogan I'm well aware of, having grown up in the Tidewater area. Traveling from our NC home up to visit friends and relatives in NY, VT, and ME, we stopped to change drivers, stretch our legs, and use the facilities. The LOVE sign that greets arrivals is nicely juxtaposed with the memorial sign to honor the armed forces that defended our country. There's a pavilion of vending machines next to the building housing the rest rooms and information kiosk. Rest rooms were fairly clean, although not spotless. No paper towels, but there was still paper strewn about the floors. Thankfully, an attendant with a mop was entering as I was leaving, presumably to tidy up the place. It's easy on / easy off access to the highway and parking seemed adequate for the space. Always nice to be back in VA, if only for a short while. read more

Crazy busy when we stopped on a Friday-- but still found parking! Bathrooms were clean and plenty of stalls. The welcome center had some local peanuts for sampling and plenty of information about the state and places to visit. We popping in for a state map- which turned out to be a good thing since we found ourselves on more than one back-country road with no cell service and google maps couldn't find us!
