I mostly enjoyed the program; however, I was put on a "Gender Restriction Contract", which meant I could not engage with members of the opposite sex, because I had a (what they thought was an inappropriate) relationship with another resident. I essentially could not even look at - and ESPECIALLY not speak to/with - ANY member of the opposite sex. Being a kind, courteous, and polite human, I had an especially difficult time following this rule. I could not - and just basically would not - ignore someone who spoke to me, even to respond to, "Good morning!", especially since I'm a grown ass adult and found it ridiculous that I was told who I could and could not speak to. There are several employees at TRS who truly care about the residents - RAs Jasmine, Sarah, Matt, Mikaela, Brandy, counselors Lisa, Alora, and Lillian (Lillian is one tough cookie, but she does truly care, and I came to love her), psychiatrists Paula and Alaa, Alumni Coordinator Jessica (who is AMAZING), Admission Coordinators Ray and Nate, and the Assistant Director Rita honestly, truly are kind, patient people who seem to care about the success of each resident. Having named the "good" employees, there are some employees that a potential patient NEEDS to be made aware of: RA Kelly, a man who is verbally aggressive and abusive, PHP instructor Clay, who makes you think he cares but plays both sides of the fence by telling his boss everything even remotely negative things you do or say, and last - but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST - is the Program Director Daryl-Lyn. Daryl-Lyn is (hands down!) the one of the most negative, biased, judgemental, unhappy human beings I've ever met. She NEVER (and I'm using that extreme word purposely) has anything (!!!!) nice, or even remotely constructive, to say to a patient, ever. If Daryl-Lyn asks to see you in her office, just know it is for something you've done wrong. I actually asked a lot of my co-patients if they ever heard her say anything positive, and not.one.person said yes. All in all, I would say I had an "Eh" experience at Promises Right Step, Houston. I made some lasting friendships but couldn't speak to a lot of them (gender restriction) and felt I was walking on eggshells, was medically detoxed but now am suffering withdrawals from Suboxone prescribed there (essentially they got me addicted to just a different drug), and didn't have to share a bedroom but everyone has to share a toilet/sink restroom with a connecting room. The showers had warm water and great water pressure, but the floor was always gross enough you have to wear shower shoes. Unless you're in PHP, you are allowed ZERO electronics, ESPECIALLY your phone, which is confiscated when you're strip searched upon admission. There aren't beverages 24/7 because they lock the cafeteria, which means no coffee whenever you want - IF the coffee machine is working and not out of coffee, which happens multiple times, every day. Would I tell someone to not go get help there? No. I would just advise them to do their research and weigh the options. Best of luck with anyone struggling with drugs and/or alcohol. But I had Lynda as my counselor and she was/is a GOD send. The staff is all really nice and the food is good. The rooms are comfy and you feel like you're at a house and not at a facility. I recently relapsed after a friend passed and they welcomed me back with open arms. When you go to Kemah Palms you will leave with a family. And for some of us, that's all we want/need. If they did, they would accept everyone regardless if that person decided not to follow their "recommendation" on going to sober living. I won't nitpick the areas of improvement and lack of communication, but what I will point out is the money grab!!! Yes the Money grab!!! I went in for my weekly $170.00 treatment a few weeks ago, which I pay for in cash no insurance. I filled out the kiosk check-in and boom I'm told I owe a bunch of money. Note I pay each visit in full period. You can't leave without paying. Now with further discussion, which delays my visit and, makes me late for another appointment I'm told oh it's an insurance thing and they didn't pay etc etc. Now note there are at least 5 others I'm hearing with the same issue. I have a friend that goes to another location and there is the same issue going on. Once they realize I'm a self pay they tell me oh it's ok just go in and we will fix it. I get my treatment for $170.00 and I pay. I come in the next two weeks the same issue however now the money is being demanded, it's from 2025, and they have all these print outs!!. I will tell you one thing I've looked at each bill...and paid said bill in full each time, but there is no way I owe them a dime especially from last year! It's clear to me that their business model here is to grab money from anyone who has insurance after the fact because it's next to impossible to deal with insurance. Anyway buyer beware keep all your paperwork for years or you'll have a battle on your hands. Expect to see more reviews like this. For me there are several other options and I'm shopping for a new actual Doctor that will spend time with me and not rush me along. Communication was slow, and when I needed assistance, I was often passed between team members without receiving clear answers or timely support. I also found the required $40 in-office visits for blood pressure checks and weigh-ins to be an unnecessary expense and inconvenience. Additionally, my medication took significantly longer to arrive than originally communicated. When the delay became excessive, I requested a refund before the medication shipped, but that request was denied. The medication was then delayed even further. While others may have a different experience, I did not find the service to be worth the cost, especially given the growing number of more affordable GLP-1 options available today. The weight-loss journey can be challenging enough without added frustration from customer service and fulfillment issues.

It was very clean, the family and I really liked the simple but pretty artwork and the comfortable accommodations for family and friends who were visiting the facility. I wish I'd taken photographs and particularly of the artwork on the walls. It seemed very clean to me which is important and the staff was very nice. I met a couple of the chaplains and they were wonderful. One of the chaplains also followed up with the key family member after the death to ensure that they were doing OK and provide a grief counseling referral if needed. It's not easy being at a hospice inpatient facility, but there was a lot to recommend this place. Really good experience despite the difficulty of the circumstances.

From the first meeting with Mr Dickerson to the end of my grandfathers life, the staff were so great. They were always available but also never interrupted our family time. I am so thankful for this facility and absolutely recommend Harbor Hospice if you are in the unfortunate circumstance of looking for a hospice company. Thank you to everyone there for such amazing and compassionate care.
