If you want to see a good specialty grocery store, Vishala-ize this one, and you're on your way. I think the main thing we noticed is that we couldn't believe how friendly this grocery store is. It's also a lot cheaper than most of the Indian and Pakistani grocery stores around Houston. So altogether I don't think I've ever been to an Indian Pakistani grocery store in Texas that is more worthy of a 5-star rating than this one. read more

The major problem with all Vishal's grocery stores including this one is transparency of price. They do not put price labels on each item packet. They put prices on the shelves for about 50% of the items-- on the shelf randomly. They don't itemize prices on the receipt. I think they even overcharge unsuspecting customers. This is not acceptable. Most US supermarkets and Mom and Pop stores put a price sticker on every item. It is inexpensive and simple to do so. It may even be illegal to not put a price on items and the authorities should look into it. The aisles are narrow and the store is generally messy. It is embarrassing. Until folks complain about this issue repeatedly they will not change! read more

Vishala Grocery is located off of Hwy 6 and Bissonnet. I had been to another location off of Westheimer and Eldridge and wasn't sure if both locations were shared by the same owner. I was short of a few supplies for cooking, and as I was driving on Hwy 6, I spotted them and decided to walk in. I needed lentils, kabob seasoning, and chicken tikka seasoning, and some sweets. They were pretty well stocked and the store was nicely organized. I did see the owner busy stocking supplies and answering any questions that customers had. I found my lentils in no time, and also found the rack where all the seasoning was kept. They were running a special, so I ended up buying about 12 packets of seasoning. Their prices were more economical than other Indo Pak grocery stores. I also found all the sweets I was looking for, along with sack of rice and some frozen food items. Too bad, they are no way near where I reside. I just happened to be visiting my sister in that area and decided to give them a visit. Perhaps I can stock up on my supplies, every time I head over to my sis. I was pretty satisfied with my experience. read more

i picked three items from their frozen nan, paratha section. two were already past expiry date and third one was just 15 days close to expiry. when i said it to the person at counter, he totally ignored it and continued with his chores. this is more than tree times i found expired or close to expiry date items. ufortunately there is no indian grocery store close by where i can go, so i do minimal possible shopping there. read more

Employees here are very nice. Had to wait outside for a bit since they're allowing X number of people in the store at a time currently. They required people to wear gloves to enter the store (which I didn't have), but they were actually proving them for their customers! They wouldn't take card under 10 bucks and I didn't have cash on me, so they let me take the item and said not to worry about. Luckily I found a few bucks in the car. My first time there. Keep in mind I am not indian but love the culture and the food. Being a beginner trying to find my way around. The staff was really nice and helpful. So many vegetarian options and spices that are amazing. I would recommend all to visit the experience of India. read more

This a review for the store side only. I stopped in there to look for a spice my wife needed for a dish she was making and let me tell ya, if you are looking for anything needed in Indo cooking they have it. Their prices are real good and the selection is great. The only reason I did not give them a 5 star rating is that one of their employees that helped me did not seem to be overly friendly but that would not stop me from ever going back there again or telling anyone from doing the same. The gentleman behind the counter who I am guessing is the one who owns/runs the place could not have been more friendly if he tried. After reading the reviews I am real interested in trying out the restaurant side, y'all have made me real hungry! read more

We went to Vishala 2 opening and shoped for $100 above and we are not satisfied because the Swad upma rava was full of bugs and after cooking smell s bad. we have seen in Vishala groceries they were changing the expiry dates. For the promotion they gave $25 gift card for nirvana restaurant which was/is a worst restaurant I have ever seen and they charged me $56 for Tandoori and rotis. ROTTEN MANGOES!!! I bought Kesar Mangoes from them a day ago. The price was high $18.99 for 9 mangoes, but as you know 'KESAR" is an delicacy I went ahead and bought it. The very same day we tried, and each and every mango was rotten from inside. Yes, "ROTTEN" all of them!!!. You won't be able to notice it or tell as there would hardly be any dents or marks. I called up the store and asked them about the cause and if I would be able to exchange it. The store owner tells me its not his look out and he cannot guarantee the fruit. He sounded more and more ridiculous as we spoke. As I argued about the exchanging or refunding he tells me he will talk to his supplier and let me ( lol) . By this time I was completely pissed off by his lack of accountability. He completely refused to exchange or refund me, so I went ahead to his store to throw the rotten mangoes at his face. I again told him about the problem and he starts with I can't refund story... His partner asked me to show those rotten mangoes and as I showed him he nodded to the owner and they refunded me my money. If I could I would have given them a negative rating. It felt like they knew that the mangoes were rotten and still they wanted to go ahead and sell it. Be very careful when you buy anything from this store. Being busy I called the Nirvana and spoke to manager Mansoor and asked for the expirey date which he said is 31st december 2011. When I went last week on Dec 7th they flately refused to honor the $25 gift certificate saying they had discontinued since long time. I drove 45 minutes to reach the restaurant and told the waitress who said its not a long drive and din't even let us speak to Manager. I don't recommend Nirvana at all. I stopped by Vishala to pick up Indian spices and frozen foods. It's on the smaller side compared to some of the Indian grocery stores on Hillcroft, but I was able to find what I needed. They've got great frozen food options from naan and parathas to kulfee desserts. They serve fresh food too, but I didn't try any dishes on this visit. Very convenient and the prices are excellent! read more

I stopped by last week for the first time. Small store compare to Keemat's. They had dabeli for $ 2.99. It was delicious.

The food is great . The only thing which i believe they overlooked is the expiration date on water bottles!!

The grocery store sells expired food items. Make sure you check the expiration date before you buy anything. One more thing keep your receipt safe as they would not entertain you otherwise. read more

Whenever I go there there is atleast one veg that I like... dal is fine... for the pricce its a good place to go... besides, u get the bajra rotla - however I dont understand the service of the place, i had this girl calld deepa serving me... more than serving us she was very interested in extracting personal details of my family... wonder if she does with everyone... couple of times and same thing... so Minus the kind of service, I think its good food. read more
