Never go here!!! They do not take care of their customers at all! I decided to try them for the first time for a new pair of glasses. Had a frame picked out but they only had it at the mchenry store so they were going to transfer it and they said when it got there after a couple of days they would send them out for the lenses. I waited over two weeks and called them to find out there was no order! They said they showed they had a hold on the frames but they were discontinued and they had inventory so they pulled them even though they were reserved for me! Just said I need to pick out different frames. No I'm sorry and no call! Never going here again! read more

Terrible! I've used them before, but even back then it was getting irritating. Last time in the girl lied to me about tinted lenses and wouldn't let me show her that she was telling me was a lie. Forward to today.... I went online to set an appointment for an eye exam. There are two documents (about 20 pages of terms) that you have to approve of if you want to use the site to make an appointment. I don't have time to read that ?*&$. So, I tried to call the store to make an appointment. The system will not allow me to talk to someone to make the appointment. The website shows three appointments available yet today, and more on Monday and Tuesday. Since the store is only 10 minutes from my home, I drove over to set the appointment, in person. I found a sign in the window saying that the store will be closed for 2 hours. It was. I returned after the two hours to find only one staffer there, only she was the one who was happy to lie to me the last time I was buying glasses. I asked for an appointment for today, as the website showed three appointments available. She reported that the doctor is on vacation. Being a lot vexed, I asked to talk to the manager. She said she was the manager. I said I want to report the problem with the website, the phone, the unscheduled store closed hours and the incorrect information about appointments being available. I asked who her manager was, and asked how I could reach that person. She replied that her only contact is by email. She told me there was no name or number I could call. She said I could contact customer service. While there, I did set up an appointment with Dr. Ahmed, for an exam on another date. He is great, very attentive, friendly and thorough. Upon returning home I called Visionworks "Customer Service". I was greeted by a computer voice that tried to sound like a human, which only presented a sales pitch on a free medical ID item. The presentation wouldn't stop and after a minute I hung up. Summary, screwed up website, phone system, store manager and home office customer service. The company doesn't realize what's going on, or doesn't care about customer. They don't deserve my or your business. I will take my prescription from Dr. Ahmad to another store. read more

I made an appointment with Dr. Victoria Haynes O.D. who is awesome, she explained everything as she went along in examining my eyes. Very nice with lots of patience, if I was not sure about which lens I could see better with, she was more than happy to go back and forth so I could be sure. Dr. Haynes also check my prescription from the other doctor I went to last year, she showed me what the difference was and how much my eyes had changed. I really like their sales and offers they have available, with all the great selection of frames! I bought two pairs and they are really nice, cannot wait get them in 2 weeks. read more

Doctor Ahmad is amazing!!! I give the doctor 5 stars. But the 1 star for the staff up front, they're very very rude and do not care about you. They also charge extra to scan the eye along with the eye exam and tell you it's included but it's not. Do not say hi, thank you , talk to you about your eyewear when purchasing. They hate their job please find a new staff. I don't think I'd go there ever again to purchase glasses, I'd go for a RX ONLY. read more

I ordered my glasses and they seemed fine but the next day I went to work and something was definitely off. I went back to the store and thankfully Jonny Perez was working. He checked my prescription and everything matched. He had me read some things and definitely realized something was wrong. He spent a lot of his time figuring out what the issue was and realized it was not the prescription but the way they adjusted the progressive lenses. He was able to correct the lines and when I picked up my new glasses they were perfect. Not only was he very smart snd friendly but by far the best employee I have ever encountered at Vision works . Myself, husband, and family have been going there for many years and this was the best experience I've ever had. I hope his boss realizes what a great asset he is to his company! read more

So my spouse and I made an appointment and went in and I can agree that the optometrist was very personable and attentive. I ordered lenses for my glasses here one year then went back for my annual eye exam. I told them that my current glasses (the ones I got from them a year ago) made me dizzy when I walked. They examined them and said that the PD was done incorrectly. I asked if they would fix that and they said no. So I paid for a pair of incorrect lenses that they refused to fix. Dr. Victoria is sweet but her other employees are cranky and very poor at customer service. If you made a mistake, you should fix the mistake. I won't be back. read more

Gave me a bad prescription, they tried to tell me it was me. I went to another place and had eyes re examined, totally different prescription. When I took my glasses back and explained to them, they did not care. They said, do you want new lenses or a refund. I was shocked at lack of care there. read more

Just got two pairs of glasses here. The staff was very nice and helpful and they have a great selection of frames. I'd give 4 stars for those things. However, their pricing is a rip-off - one star on that. You know how they advertise "buy one pair get one free". Don't be duped by that: they overcharge on the first pair so that the two pairs divided by 1/2 end up being what the first pair should've been in the first place. Example: I got two pairs of glasses, both with progressive lenses. Bottom line was $800! Buy one get one "free" - ha! That ends up being $400/pair which is about the average price each for progressive lenses. If you don't need two pairs of glasses, go elsewhere and pay the $400 for one pair. read more

Sabrina did an absolute fantastic job with the initial screenings, Dr. Haynes is respectful (listens to the needs of the patients) and explains her assessment, and Margarita did a great job making sure I got the appropriate eyewear while explaining the rebates. I would give ZERO if I could. Was tricked into buying 2 pairs of progressive glasses when all I needed was readers. Spent $600 and when I finally went to a different Optometrist, he informed me that the glasses I purchased from Visionworks were not only useless but the incorrect size for a progressive, the lens weren't big enough. The staff at Visionworks is only friendly when they are swindling you and up-selling. I feel like a complete idiot for not realizing that with my 20/20 distance vision, I have NO NEED for progressives. The staff member made it seem like she was helping me for the future... I am a fool. To top it all off, the glasses have NEVER fit properly. I returned to the store several times. I even mentioned that the glasses don't seem to be functioning properly, that the reader portion of the glasses is so small that I can't really utilize them. The staff member said I should wear them more often to 'get used to them.' NO, NO, NO!!! Do not listen to bad advice, like I did. Once I went to a REAL optometrist, he explained that the eye is a muscle and the glasses will do the work for the eye muscle, making it like a couch potato if not used. So, NO, I should not wear my readers unless I'm reading, thank you very much. I spoke with Dustin (very nice but has no authority to help me.) I recv'd a follow up call from Chris and was told that Greg (area manager?) could do nothing for me. Too much time has passed since the purchase of the glasses. What a joke. I offered to bring in the pristine glasses so he could see that they haven't been worn. I told him my situation and still, 'we can't do anything for you.' I asked for Greg's last name and contact info. I was told 'He's going to tell you the same thing and no, I can't give you his last name or contact info.' I purchased a pair of sunglasses back in August of '12 - almost a year to this date. A couple days ago, I accidentally sat on them. The frames were complete bent, and my initial thought was that it was going to cost me some serious cash to get them fixed. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, and Blake F., one of the service representatives at this location, was extremely willing to help. He had my frames fixed in less than 5 minutes, and was extremely sincere to the entire situation. I've been going to eye doctors since I was eight, and I can't remember ever having a more thorough and friendly visit than I just did at Visionworks in Crystal Lake! My daughter and I were greeted by friendly faces, and the "receptionist" (for lack of her actual title) showed us where to go and what to do immediately. She made sure my daughter was comfortable, as well. We only waited a few minutes before doing the pretest things, and then a minute more until the doctor was ready for us. Dr. Anderson was very nice, helped my daughter to settle in, and then got to work. Like I said, I have seen a lot of eye doctors in my past, and none of them have explained everything the way Dr. Anderson did. I've done similar tests at every doctor, but I wasn't sure exactly what some of them were for or how they worked. I love that Dr. Anderson spent the time to make sure I knew what he was doing and why. At the end, he showed me my current prescription versus my new prescription, which I don't remember from before. It was a thorough and pleasant exam, and I will absolutely go back when I need another one. Their selection of frames was standard, and I did find several pairs that I liked. The prices seemed pretty standard, too, and based on how expensive glasses are in general, I chose to order them online instead. However, if they did not work out as well as they did, I was going to go back to Visionworks to get frames and lenses. The cashier was very nice, too. I had a coupon for the exam cost, and it was no problem to use it - didn't get a hassle or any fine-print exceptions. Overall, it was as pleasant an experience as I could have had a doctor's appointment. I would highly recommend going to Visionworks in Crystal Lake if you are in need of an exam! read more

I have only needed glasses for about 3 years now, and when I went to Visionworks, I felt like I learned SOOOOO much more from the two ladies I worked with there than anywhere else. First, Korin greeted me and took me through the pre-exam process. She was very thorough and explained everything that was being done. I then met with Dr. Haynes. What a great doctor! The exam she gave me was stellar, and covered more than I've ever been tested for. She showed me the inside of my eye from the digital scan that Korin did during the pre-exam, and explained the different parts of the eye, the macular, blood vessels, etc. I have diabetes, so it was nice to have that extra care by just explaining what they look for. The digital scan is part of the normal process there - no dilation needed!!! After the exam, I went and picked out my new frames. So many to choose from it was great! I didn't bring anyone with me to help choose, so Korin offered and was great! Very honest and excellent feedback. I wholeheartedly recommend them, 100%! read more

I had a FANTASTIC experience with a broken pair of glasses. Justin got their lab manager to look at my lenses and they found a frame that was different than my broken ones, but could re-use my existing frame til my VSP insurance/allowance would provide better coverage on a new pair. These guys did not have to go the "extra mile" but they did! Some other stores would not have the expertise to locate a comparable frame and would have preferred to sell me a whole new set of lenses and frames. I recommend this store's staff without hesitation. Because there is a GREAT manager who will make the right things happen. read more

I would not recommend this place. The people seem friendly and helpful, but somehow the glasses end up costing at least as much or more than when purchased through a regular optical shop. The lens came out of my glasses several times and eventually was lost. I wanted a replacement lens, but was told I needed a new eye exam before it could be replaced. I understood that, but their exam revealed a "significant" change necessitating replacement of both lenses at a cost of over$325. The lens continued to fall out. Six months later I had an exam at my regular opthamologist who said there was no real change from my original prescription, and the glasses I was now wearing from the Visionworks exam were way too strong. read more

I will tell you my situation and you can do what you want with it. Over 4 weeks ago, I went to Visionworks for new glasses. I picked out regular frames and sunglasses as well. The regular eyeglasses had a cat-like shape to the frame, with the frames completely surrounding the lenses. The regular glasses were ready in one hour, but when I picked them up, the bottoms of the lenses were not attached to the frames! They tried to tell me "that's how they are made, they are floating lenses" but the original ones I tried on did NOT have gaps between the bottoms of the lenses and the bottoms of the frames. Then, I was told that my sunglasses had to be sent out to be tinted and would be ready in 2 weeks. After 2 weeks passed, I called asking if my sunglasses were ready. They said they tried calling me to tell me they were ready, but my number was disconnected. And that's where their "trying" stopped. Turns out the eyeglass technician did not enter my number correctly into their computer system, and instead of double-checking the number they had on file with the paper form I filled out, they did nothing. And the sunglasses sat there, collecting dust. I went in to pick them up, opened the case, to find THEY WERE NEVER TINTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. The sunglass lenses were CLEAR. Either they didn't bother to check the glasses before handing them off to me, or they tried to sell me non-tinted "sunglasses!" They were rude when I asked why the "tint" did not match the model glasses I tried on. They said they would send them back and have them remade, which would take another 2 weeks. I said okay, and now it's been 2 and a half weeks and I still haven't heard from them. Do what you want with this review. If you have enough time to deal with bad customer service and the selling of less-than-quality products, go ahead and get your glasses from Visionworks. I know I will never go there again. read more

I could not see while driving so I went in on a limb after being denied at Walmart and was helped by Destiny. She immediately gave me a pair of contacts that matched my prescription. Brought my 2 daughters in for exams. My older daughter was examined and needed glasses/contacts. The doctor then examined my younger daughter, aged 10 (who said she needed glasses) and he said she didn't need glasses, just wanted them because her older sister did. I believed him because, hey, he's the doctor, right? Fast forward several months, I'm volunteering at my younger daughter's school and ask her what time it is. I see her squinting to see the clock on the wall and she can't tell me the time BECAUSE SHE CAN'T SEE IT! I took her elsewhere for an exam and she definitely needed glasses. We'd been going to Visionworks for a couple of years but I will never go back after that. read more

First time I tried this place. I needed new glasses, they were open. Not happy. Prescription did not feel right from beginning. I went back, tech checked prescription and said frames may need to be adjusted. It is almost exactly a year later. I can't see at all out of these glasses. Went back to my old ones. Nothing wrong with frames, but actual lens seems cheap. Not clear. I have progressive lenses. Cost difference is minimal. Will be going back to my optometrist's office. read more
