I had an excellent eye exam with Dr. David Robbins, OD at the Visionworks in Middletown. He did a particularly good job explaining the issue I was having with progressive lenses and walked me through his assessment of my eye health in a clear, practical way. I left feeling like I understood both the prescription/lens issue and the health findings, which I really appreciated. My teen son had his annual visit at Visionworks on a weeknight. The customer traffic was fairly regular and while easy to book online we noticed we needed to book out 2-3 days which is unusual. I'm guessing it's the end of year and people have insurance benefits to use. Sadly this time I was told our Anthem insurance didn't offer us a discount. We paid the standard rate of $69 for the exam. I do appreciate it isn't an issue to get a copy of our prescription. We prefer to order glasses from an online provider. Also, the glasses in the lobby to try on are ... dirty and gross. We didn't want to put anything on our face. I am also dropping my stars because of the service received from the initial technician. She explained dilation offerings to my son rather than me, and wasn't clear on one option being an additional charge. She also didn't pay attention to my son's chart which had his birthday date. Had she checked she would've known he wasn't 18 yrs ... or said she thought he looked 27 yrs. My teen son has a rapidly fading hairline and this statement embarrassed him. His mood changed for the rest of the visit and beyond. Lackluster experience this round. read more

I just don't respect a place that doesn't honor an appointment made on-time. I'm tired of places having you make an appointment only to make you wait. I arrive early every time as well. Thorough optometrist evaluation. With insurance I got excellent value. I like the new ones and last pair from there lasted at least 3 years being comfortable on my face (hardly any adjustments needed) and minimal lens scratches. On November 10th my husband and I went into the Middletown store to have his nose piece adjusted on his glasses. The technician didn't want to install new nose pieces and only wanted to adjust them. We were told after spending $1,500 on glasses for both of us of to come in anytime for free adjustments or new parts at no charge. We tried to purchase a box of lens cleaner pads, and they were priced incorrectly. One of the technicians or the manager wanted to argue over a $3.00 difference and said the box was accidentally set on the wrong shelf with pricing less than what the item sold for. My goodness what happened to good customer service. Clearly this isn't the place to go if you want good service. read more

I stopped in the store over 2 weeks ago to schedule a appointment for my daughter to get her first set of contacts. I explained that she did not need a full vision exam as she is under the regular care of an ophthalmologist. I was told she could have a contact only exam and some one would teach her how to put the contacts in. Visionworks had my daughter's prescrition for glasses as we just purchased a pair there within the last three months. My daughter's eyes were checked by a technician. She had her stand in front of a screen and read letters with one eye covered. She used a machine to do 2 tests but never explained anything to her or what to expect. Next she wanted to dialate her eyes to check the health of the eyes. We declined as we were only there for a contact exam and she is under the care of an ophthalomogist. Fifty minutes later we finally see the doctor. I shared that we were there for a contact exam only and told the doctor about the health of her eyes. He left the room to see if anyone was available to teach her how to use contacts. More than five minutes later he returned and said the contacts he wanted to use he had to order and that we would have to come back in a few weeks. It was odd that he would make this decision without evening looking at my daughter's eyes. Wasted over an hour only to be told I would have to come back another day. I asked for a manager and there was no one. The receptionist even said that she was sorry there was no one available to teach my daughter. Totally different story than the doctor. Not happy to have spent the time for this appointment. I was clear when I made the appointment what I needed. No one could help, poor customer service. No attempt to make it right. Time for new glasses! YES! (Yea, I'm the guy who likes to go to two places a lot of people don't. The dentist and the optometrist.) Since we moved to Louisville we've gone to the Springhurst location of Visionworks. The last couple experiences there weren't amazing, so we decided to go to Middletown this time. Making our appointment was easy. Make your way to the Visionworks website, select your location, view available exam times, and after filling in some information you're ready for your eye exam and, better yet, a new pair of sexy specs. The Friday after Thanksgiving found us at Visionworks for our appointment and to pick out our frames. We arrived early so we could frame shop while waiting for your exams. (Hint: You can basically check in online before your appointment so you can get the paperworky stuff done in advance.) I've always been impressed with the selection of frames at Visionworks. While I'm particular to rimless frames and always say I'm going back to them I ultimately find something else and there I am, with full-framed glasses but still looking good. Surprisingly, I had my frames picked out in about 15 minutes. My wife took just a little longer, but we were there early enough that we weren't rushed. The eye exams are a two-step process at Visionworks. First is the pre-exam where they test your focus and eye pressure, a few things like that, then you wait a bit longer. Then comes the actual exam, were you sit in the darkened room looking through what appears to be a very expensive piece of equipment while the optometrist dials in the focus of each of your eyes. Once that's complete (maybe 10-15 minutes) it's back to the front of the store to finish/finalize your glasses and paperwork. Sam started our process but got called away and Gabby assisted us in answering all of our questions, presenting the various lens and add-on options, mushing some numbers together, and helping us get the glasses ordered. And then, of course, she gladly took our credit card... :) Our first experience at the Middletown Visionworks was excellent all around. They were able to answer all of out questions and everyone we encountered was professional and personable. At no time did we feel like we were in an assembly line. In one visit they un-did the previous not-so-great experiences we had at the Springhurst location. Now comes the hard part. Waiting for our new Sexy Specs. read more

If I could give a negative rating, I would! One star seems too good! I was at this store (Shelbyville Road, St. Matthews) on Friday 4/25/2024 for further testing. The Technician that administered the test (Annita) was amazing, the Dr. was just as amazing, but............ The lady that checked me out and made my next appointment seemed very preoccupied with what was going on elsewhere and was not paying much attention to what she was doing while checking me out, she was very disconnected as well, and did not communicate or make any eye contact with me, which is fine, there really is no need for small talk, but she showed little to no interest in helping me, it seemed I was bothering her at work with WORK! She told me I had a $35.00 copay so I gave her my bank card. She ran the card and returned it to me. I asked for a receipt and a card with my next appointment, she said we need to go to the front desk for that. She proceeded to get up and left my chart on the table we were sitting, accessible to anyone that walked by the desk, and by anyone I mean other customers. I went back to the desk and got my chart and took it to her. She printed the wrong receipt (one from a previous visit), she then told me that the $35.00 charge had not gone through. I immediately pulled up my bank account on my phone and showed her it had gone through. At this time the so called manager (Justin) interceded and with an aggressive and disrespectful tone proceeded to tell me that I would not get a receipt because the charge had not gone through. I showed him my bank account and he said that because the charge said "pending" it had not gone through. I explained that bank card charges say "pending" until the end of business day when it is posted to my account by the bank. His voice got louder and he proceeded to tell me how my bank (which I have been with since 1980) works. He said if I wanted a receipt they would have to run my card again, otherwise I would get a bill from them for the $35.00. I asked him "if you charge my card twice, how long it take for you to give me refund for the overcharge"? He replied it would take 5 to 7 days. I told him, "so you take my money twice because of your mistake, but hold it hostage for 5 to 7 days???? He then got really hostile and repeated the same! I gave the lady my card, she ran it again, I checked my bank and sure enough there were 2 charges to my account! I showed him, he again proceeded to tell me how my bank works! By this time I was livid!! I told him him he was rude and disrespectful and that I hoped he didn't treat his employees with the utter disdain and disrespect he was treating me (his paying customer). The technician that did my testing was standing by the front desk and I told her in Spanish (I speak two languages, and so does she) that I would not be back for the next appointment and asked if there was a customer service number I could call. He answered for her because he understood the words Customer Service as I said them in English. He gave me the number and I once again reminded him of how rude and disrespectful, and I left the store. I have never been treated with such disdain in a supposed "professional business" setting such as Visionworks, by a supposed manager!! I have cancelled my next appointment and will never go back to Visionworks! If this is the type of employees and so called management Visionworks hires I can certainly understand why most of the negative reviews are about Visionworks not getting prescriptions correctly and the poor (non existent) , rude and disrespectful customer service!!! read more

Need to find a new place to get my glasses! They are never ready on time, this time a week late. Only got new lenses and they were finally in. It's quite a drive for me to get there. Well, the lenses are there but no one was there that could put them into my glasses. They suggested I leave the glasses and pick them up Monday. So, in the meantime, how am I supposed to see? Eye exams are scheduled every 15 minutes. The exam takes 1/2 - do the math and see how long you'll have to wait. I had to wait an hour past time I booked for exam. The app to tell you when your lenses will be ready is faulty. Mine still tells me I have a "pending" order for glasses I picked up last Saturday. I broke my glasses and came in for an emergency pair. The staff is super rude and don't even get up from their desk to help people or bother to greet people. I've never been the only person in a store full of sales people and not had one single person ask if I needed help. I left after 90 minutes of trying to get anyone in the store to help me. And if you don't have the signed original copy of your eye exam, just don't even go in. In fact, if you need glasses don't go in this place! read more

I got my glasses last fall. I ordered the non glare scratch resistant glasses. They told me they did not have my lenses in stock and would need to order them. An hour after leaving they called me and told me my glasses were ready for pick up. When I picked them up I was not acknowledged for some time after walking in. I asked for my glasses to be adjusted and they said they couldn't. I left and came back another day and asked for my glasses to be adjusted and the lady looked at me and then walked away and didn't come back. The third time I went in someone did adjust my glasses but they bent the frame and my lenses are cracking. It started with one small crack. I now have three cracks that are gradually getting larger. I will not be coming to this store again and will not recommend to friends. read more

My experience with Visionworks was unacceptable. I wanted new glasses because the magnification of my old glasses was not strong enough. I got new glasses but the new glasses did not help with the problem. With my new glasses the print on the page is blurry. Horrible experience with the glasses and customer service. I am certain they put cheap lenses in the frame and charged me for expensive lenses. The lenses cracked after a month and were constantly dirty with a film of oil. I ended up ordering glasses and lenses off Zenni and I am much happier for a fourth of the price. The doctor is great! I ordered some glasses. No one called me when they were in. I picked them up today (7/8/21) and the person behind the counter handed them to me. I asked if I was going to be fitted and the response was "If you need to." The glasses were loose so I handed them to her and she bent them by hand. That was it. I may be crazy however I remember at other places, sitting at a desk and someone actually fitted me, heated the piece before bending it. Maybe I also was checked that I could read the chart well with them. I like the doctor however, after purchasing contacts AND glasses, I will take that purchasing business elsewhere. read more

Sending a HUGE thank you to the Middletown store all the way from Colorado!! I had a bad experience with a local store, so I decided to give them a call myself. As soon as I explained my situation, the lady that answered the phone was willing to help! ( I was driving so I didn't catch her name! So sorry!) In a matter of minutes, she pulled up my account and was ready to order me some new contacts. Due to the issues I had already dealt with, she offered to send my contacts via UPS instead of USPS so that I would receive them sooner. Wow... Pretty bad experience with a 5 year old! Short version: Poor customer service, backwards glasses. Longer version: We realized my daughter needed glasses recently when she couldn't see something at a distance that the rest of us could. We took her up to Visionworks for an eye exam. It was a fairly long wait for the doc but that's to be expected. The doctor was polite and professional. She picked out two pair of glasses and was told to wait a couple weeks. That's where our good experience ended. By the way, I've been an on-and-off customer of Visionworks (and formerly Dr. Bizers) for nearly 20 years. I've never been overly impressed- waits have been long but overall the price was decent and locations were convenient. We went in to get her glasses. Please remember, my daughter is FIVE and this is her FIRST time wearing glasses. The worker took the glasses out of the case and put them on my daughter. She didn't attempt to fit them and didn't teach my daughter anything about wearing glasses, proper care, etc. I'm fully capable of this, of course, but I remember vividly this experience as a child and the care that was taken to help me get excited and learn how to be a good glasses-wearer. I expected them to test her vision in the new specs but they didn't offer anything. I asked if she was going to be seen by the doc and was told "no." If we wanted that it's another $70 for an exam. "Just to verify they work correctly?" Yes. So I picked out a sign across the store and had her try to identify letters. She struggled. She took the glasses off and could make out the letters. That seemed strange so I asked again if the doctor could see her. "You have to give her a week to let the glasses settle in. She'll be fine." "Okay, but in a week can I bring her back in to make sure the prescription is right?" Same answer: only if we paid for another exam. I left the store, a bit frustrated. In the parking lot I started looking at the glasses more closely. The two pairs didn't seem to match eachother. Her eyes are quite different and in one pair the left lens was stronger and in the other pair the right lens was stronger. I was pretty sure that one pair of the glasses were made with the prescription reversed. I walked back into the store and (pretty politely) asked one of the employees to double check the glasses. She walked into the back. She came back out and sure enough... they were made backwards. (These were, of course, the pair that she was wearing when she couldn't read the sign.) At this point she told me she'd reordered new ones and they'd be ready in 14 days. She didn't apologize or offer any sort of explanation. I asked again about their policy of having the doctor take another look at her eyes with the "good" glasses on. Again, they denied it saying that the "doctor needed to be paid for his time." I don't want a new prescription, I don't want her eyes dilated, etc. Just have her read the letters on the board. Nope... not without a $70 charge. Can I talk to the doctor about it? Nope. I asked her, "how can I be sure that the prescription is right. I mean you did make a pair backwards so how can I know that the glasses have corrected her vision." The worker then told me that my daughter would know and would be able to tell me. Ummmm... no. She might be able to tell me her vision is better with the glasses on but she's 5. She hasn't worn glasses before and doesn't know what "right" looks like. One of the workers even kept cutting me off when I was trying to explain our situation. The entire experience was frustrating, mostly because of the complete lack of care for my girl. Policies are policies and I can disagree with them but get over them. But customer service was nearly non-existent at this store. A little more attention to my little girl, and any desire to try to address my concerns and this entire experience would have been different. Thankfully there are a lot of options in this town for glasses. As I said when I left the store, "We'll be back in 14 days but after that you won't be seeing my family again." read more

I have been so busy with work that I have been putting off going to get new contacts. It was a rainy day today so I thought it might be a good day to go and I was exactly right! In 30 years of wearing contacts, this was by far the best experience I've ever had! I interacted mostly with a Tech, Nate and Dr. Mark Pulliam and I cannot say enough good things about them. My experience was excellent. They were amazingly fast and extremely professional and super friendly. I won't ever go anywhere but there after this visit. read more

These people are terrible. Over the course of three months they mis fit my right contact 6 times. One time they said my cornea was irritated and told me i had to buy glasses to give my eye a break. It was also wrong. Finally on the 7th time the contact worked. So we traded in lenses that we were charged for but not supposed to be sent as i couldnt see out of them. There was mass confusion with that but got straightened out or so we thought. When the lenses arrived at our home there was only a 12 week supply when we turned in a 48 week supply. Apparently the fellow who claimed to be a manager thinks i cannot do simple math. He claims i only turned in a six month supply but i had 24 lenses at weeks of wear for only one eye. No matter what i said he kept claiming it was 6 months and if i wanted a year it was going to be another 131 dollars. So do not go to this location. They are incompetent at fitting contacts. No one ever apologized for how many times I had to come up there. And i only got three month supply of lenses when at absolute minimum i shouldve had 6 months and really it was year read more

This store is a disaster. I have never had such a hard time trying to get glasses than I have at this store. I had to get both pairs of my glasses remade because the prescription was off. On top of that, I never received a call informing me that my glasses were ready for pick-up. I had to call myself and make sure they were available, as i had special lenses, and they told me they were in fact ready. When i arrived to pick them up the first time, the doors were locked at 3:29 pm EST on a Saturday afternoon, while a CUSTOMER WAS STILL INSIDE, and they just stared at me and would not let me in. I returned the next day, WAY BEFORE THEY CLOSED, and was informed they COULD NOT FIND MY GLASSES. I was infuriated, being that i had traveled almost 40 miles the day before and the day of, and then i could not even get my glasses. I left the store and told them that they needed to find my order before 5:30pm EST so that i would not have to make this trip again. They called and informed me then, that they had mixed up the order and it was going to be ANOTHER 6-10 days before I would be able to pick them up. I now have ONLY ONE PAIR of my order and the Lens cleaner they sold me is TAKING THE POLY CARBONATE OFF OF MY LENSES, and i now have to take them back YET AGAIN. I will NEVER go back to this Visionworks store, if i ever go to another PERIOD. I advise nobody that reads this trusts this store with your glasses or contacts. read more
