The staff here is RUDE and SOOOOO unprofessional. No answers the phone and when they do they automatically place you on hold. I called them 2 days in a row trying to get in contact with someone to turn around to drive up there and get the information I needed. Don't waste your time coming here, it's not even worth it.

While the staff were friendly- coming to this office was a complete waste of my time. Although they advertise to take "hundreds" of insurance plans, they were unable to take either of my two insurance plans through blue cross- citing an issue with how they process billing. While I understand that this happens (even though it has never happened to me personally) the disruption caused to my schedule on a Friday afternoon could have well been avoided had they bothered to check prior to coming in- particularly since I provided my insurance information in advance of my appointment. Would not recommend for the time wasted alone- whether it was due to staff incompetence or poor time management is unclear.

    A photo of the cracks..

I purchased my glasses at Visionworks in Woodbridge VA Potomac Mills in May 2023. A week after purchasing I noticed that my frame was developing a cracks across the nose bridge. At first I ignored it because it was small, but by the week five crack go bigger. So, I went by the store to see what my options were. I was told my only option was to buy new frames, since I didn't have a warrant. My frames were less than a month old. The damaged wasn't due to my negligence. I paid $500 for my glasses and my daughter and I have been coming there for over five years now. We have purchased new glasses every year. We will not be going back.

Discrimination, lack of empathy, and completely unacceptable care…read more Today, my son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I experienced one of the worst healthcare experiences we have ever had. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with hostility. The first thing I was told was that my appointment had been canceled because I supposedly failed to confirm it. However, I never received a phone call, email, or text message asking me to confirm my appointment. Ironically, they did send a confirmation for my son's appointment. Despite that, I was blamed and my appointment was canceled. After that, we were left waiting much longer than expected for my son's appointment. I explained several times that my son has autism and that long waits are very difficult for him. No one seemed to care. When they finally called him in for his eye imaging, I explained to the technician that my son has autism and kindly asked her to be patient with him. She didn't even acknowledge what I said. She immediately started giving him abrupt commands: "Sit down," "Open your eyes," "Put your chin here." My son was already visibly anxious, and I was doing everything I could to help him stay calm and cooperate. At the next machine, the technician suddenly pushed the equipment toward him. He became frightened and started crying. Once again, I explained that he has autism and asked her to please be patient and gentle. Instead of showing any understanding, she abruptly got up, walked out of the room, and returned a few minutes later only to say, "Go out and wait in the lobby." I asked why, how long we would have to wait, and what was happening. Her response was simply, "I don't know... maybe 20 or 30 minutes." There was no explanation, no communication, and no attempt to continue the exam. We were simply told to leave the room. While my son sat there crying, scared and confused, no one came to explain anything or check on us. I decided to speak with the office manager. Before she even allowed me to explain what had happened, she angrily told me that I had arrived ten minutes late and had failed to confirm my appointment, as if that somehow justified the way my son was being treated. I explained that this had nothing to do with my appointment. My concern was the way my son was being treated. I told her I felt we were being discriminated against because of his disability and that they seemed unwilling to continue his examination after learning he has autism. She showed no interest in listening or helping. The most heartbreaking part of this experience was hearing my son apologize for being scared and crying during the exam. No child with autism should ever feel the need to apologize for being afraid. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder deserve patience, understanding, respectful communication, and reasonable accommodations--not indifference, impatience, or dismissive treatment. We received no empathy, no compassion, no professionalism, and no respect. I sincerely hope this office provides proper training to its staff on how to care for patients with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals. No family should ever have to go through such a humiliating experience. Zero empathy. Zero compassion. Zero professionalism. Completely unacceptable.

The usual stores have very similar frames with very similar profiles for much wider faces. Occoquan Optical has a completely different feel than the stereotypical eyeglass shop. Rachel has created a calm, airy and bright environment with individually curated hand-selected frames. It's clear that Rachel has considered multiple types of customers- the range of styles, shapes and sizes is incredible! I went to the shop three times- to browse glasses, to pick a second style and purchase both, and then to pick up my glasses after the lenses were done. Each visit was as enjoyable as the first! Rachel is personable, attentive and warm. Conversation flowed easily and she loved on my baby during my first visit. She also put up with my indecisiveness! Not only did I pull off at least 30 frames from the walls, but she even started a poll on Facebook when I was unsure which pair fit my face best! By the end of the appointment, Rachel understood my style enough to select a second pair of glasses off the wall- which I ended up purchasing! It's so exciting to have glasses that build up my confidence and make me feel like a trendy mama! Looking forward to building my glasses collection. I'll be back to Occoquan Optical soon!

He actually had me fascinated with optics and biology by the time he was done. You can tell that he cares about and enjoys his work. The gentleman who helped me select frames was terrific as well. And PATIENT. I must've tried on 12 pairs! Thankfully he knew more about trends than I did and which frames work best for different faces. He also looked for alternative colors online for me. He steered me in the right direction without being pushy. When it was time to pick up my glasses the experience was quite different. Between the reception desk and the person who came out to bring my frames, I felt like just a number. It would've been a nice touch for him to know what type of prescription I had in order to offer advice on adjusting to them, and asking how they fit, sight, etc. It wasn't until I started asking questions that he engaged. I think it's silly to charge for a bottle of lens solution when I just spent $500 on the glasses. It's the first time I encountered an eye dr's office that charges for a small bottle of solution for glasses you're picking up. It made me think I guess I was lucky to get a case for my glasses.

No problem, things usually cost more when you have extra problems. They told me my preferred Lens was going to be discontinued after end of 2022, so my order would be the last and then I would need to switch to another brand. I ended up also getting some samples of a different brand to try. I was promised 2 weeks for my contacts to arrive. 2 weeks passed, no contacts, i call and explain what's going on, they call the supplier, call me back, say another two weeks but they're working on it. Repeat this for another three months or so. I understand delays but the fact that I have to 1) call them EVERY single time to ask where they are rather than be informed proactively that they are delayed again and 2) explain my story every single time I call, I assumed eye doctors would also use patient notes, is ridiculous. Then, I tried the samples, unfortunately, they didn't work for me and never settled on my eye or were sized incorrectly (blurry no matter how much eye drops). I called about 6 months after my eye exam to see if I could try another brand. They told me I would have to come back in and get resized and pay another $100+. I ended up going to another provider where I walked out the door only payed $20 for a new exam, under $50 for the lens fitting, and no extra charge for astigmatism. AND they gave me two different samples to try from the beginning, followed up how they were feeling etc. Th difference in level of care at Steer Optical and my new vision center is night and day. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

My initial experience with EyeCare About Eyes started off great. I was able to easily schedule my appointment online. When I went to download the New Patient forms a few days later, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could do all of the paperwork online, using a secure connection of course. I had a comprehensive eye exam today performed by Dr. Alicia Kim of EyeCare About Eyes. Dr. Kim was very thorough and quick in her exam and she has excellent patient communication skills. @ Drs. Chen & Chen...you need to keep this one if possible. I didn't wait long at all before my exam commenced. Unfortunately, I didn't get the young lady's name who performed some initial screening. She was very personable. The facility was clean and modern. I especially liked the exam chair because it was very comfortable to sit in. Three things I would recommend as areas for improvement. First, replace the plastic chairs with nicer chairs. The plastic chairs aren't very supportive or comfortable and that's coming from someone with spine issues. Second, consider greatly improving your selection of eyeglasses. I would have liked to give you the business for my eyeglasses purchase, but there wasn't enough of a selection for me to make a choice. If you want to see an example of a great selection of eyeglasses, visit Crestwood Optical in Manassas, VA. Last, get rid of the mask policy. I despise having to wear a mask unless I choose to wear one. Bottom line, count me as a continuing customer, at least for eye care needs.

A woman, who I think her name is Afia, greeted me and was so friendly about it! She gave me space as I walked around and looked at the different work bags, but she was absolutely available and happy to answer any questions I had. I left the store to go to another one in search of a work bag, but couldn't stop thinking of one I saw on clearance. So, I went back. I had come to the mall for a Tumi bag, and dangit I was going to get one. As soon as I came back Afia greeted me again - and she remembered me. Granted it had only been 5-10 minutes but still, that meant a lot. I picked up the bag I couldn't get off my mind, and took it to the register. To my surprise it was an extra 25% off (it was on the clearance table but I wasn't sure if the clearance signs applied to the orange stickers or if the orange stickers were representative of the final discounted price - it's a lawyer thing to think that way lol). Anyway, she was so helpful, let me know I could monogram the bag for free at any Tumi store (not outlet one though), and also highly recommended the bag I was purchasing. I was in the store wearing faded leggings, dirty sneakers, sweaty as heck from just having hiked 4 miles - and the whole time I felt welcomed and not once judged. So, whoever manages that store - know that you have a wonderful employee there. She's a gem!! Fantastic customer service aside, this was a very clean, easy to navigate store. Lots of wonderful options (though I wish they still made the earl grey color, but that's not this stores fault lol). Tumi makes very high quality travel or business pieces that each carry a good, long warranty (5 years I think). I highly recommend not only the brand, but this specific outlet store.
