Anyway after they made one couple take a hike we piled in an 8 person van. You can't really see out of the windows and our guide just sort of talks to himself, only sometimes using the microphone (I preferred silence to his banter though). Van smells like a unkempt zoo. You drive around and listen to him and not see anything for about 1.5 hours, a couple stops though for pics. Then you get to the golden gate park area which is very nice, good spot for pics on the SF side. Then across the bridge, but again you cannot see anything cause the van is garbage. Other side of bridge again stop for pics, nice. Very windy road on the next stint, starting to be aggravating in the van. Now Muir Woods which was really cool but you only get 1 hour, I could have spent 3. He tell us to meet him there in 1 hour (1140 in this case) it's pouring by the end and he is late by 5 mins of us just standing in the rain. Now lunch stop on the way back, just pulls into a health food store and lets us out, we have no idea of if we are eating there or what, we are, kind of like a Whole Foods situation, no seating, many stand to eat. He is kind of mad at me because he was waiting outside but we had no idea he was even there lol. Back across the bridge, painted lady stuff and a stop on the top of a lookout point which was neat. At this point I am unable to get back into the van, it smells like a hamster cage in there and I have been nauseated for 2h. I Uber back. I wish I would have known this stuff... tough day of 'vacation'

Zero stars should be a thing…read more If you read no more, read this: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! My best friend and I traveled to San Francisco as the first stop on our tour of California. We booked the city tour over a month in advance via Groupon (a company I've used for years). We didn't rent a car while staying in San Fran because the city is so accessible through public transportation. So, this tour was perfect because we were so excited to see the hot spots of San Francisco. The tour on the computer at Groupon.com and though I received email verification from Groupon, no communications were received from Left Coast tours. First red flag. Due to the fact that no customer to company direct communication, the initial meet up location and process was quite confusing. The address listed was 5th & Market Street. We arrived and didn't see any signage, groups waiting or anything that could confirm this was where we should be. And though we called while in route to the above location just to make sure we were heading to correct local we received no indication that we were heading in the wrong direction. Everything listed on the Groupon and the company website was contradictory so we called again to get clarification. We called at least 9 times with no answer. We walked to another address that as listed on Google, which was another hotel (not listed on the company website). At this point, it was 15 minutes beyond the time when the tour was to begin. To say we were frustrated would be an understatement. After half an hour we got ahold of the administer at the home base of Left Coast Tour office. He explained he would track down the driver and get back to us. He did not. We called. And called. And called. Only to be directed to another hotel which we needed to cab to. We obliged not wanted to waste an entire afternoon for nothing. When we arrived, still, no driver. The only man to answer the contact info listed said "he could not locate the driver", "this never happens" and "he's been calling him for 45 mins". What kind of tour company cannot find their tour driver, I asked? We were then given the DRIVER's number who we called at least 20 combined times between the both of us. Nothing. No answer whatsoever. This situation was handled extremely unprofessional and upset that my time and money was wasted. This company is a shame and left a bad taste in my mouth and was 100% not worth the frustration. Our fix: Go to the official visitor center and have them guide you to any of the many reputable sites and tours the city has to offer. They are open regular business hours and will help you for free. If they're closed, Union square has multiple companies running at all times from the bus port. Bottom line: LEFT COAST TOURS IS WASTE OF MONEY/TIME/ENERGY

Tip: Download the SF Ferry App to save time & get schedules. Upper & Lower deck seating. Indoor or deck seating. Plenty of tables, bankette seating. Place for strollers, bicycles. Snack bar that serves alcohol like wine, beer & mimosas to small snacks. The view to San Francisco is beautiful arriving & departing Gate G. The closest street is Mission. When you arrive it's easy to get on the Muni system, a trolley, a tour bus, or an Uber/Lyft. If you're going to SF Giants game or the Chase Center, there's a special events Ferry for that. Don't worry if your event ends late, the special events ferry will take you back to Alameda &!Oakkand. Study the schedules to plant plenty enough time to travel. For example. I arrived at Gate G and I was going to The Presidio District. There's a free Go shuttle, but it takes about 40 minutes to get there with all the stops. If you're running short on time, grab a taxi or an Uber to drop you off quicker. Since then, I have taken the Ferry four more times. Why did I wait so long. Next is the BART system. I am an Angeleno, who went to visit a friend in Oakland. I wanted to experience San Francisco and…read moremy friend Denise suggested this ferry because it was cheaper than an Uber, more convenient than Bart, departed on time, like impeccably on time, and thus efficient, and in a way, a vacation experience in itself. Thus, I am here writing this Yelp, to describe it as a tourist experience, not as a mode of transportation to San Francisco, which of course it is too, on the daily. It was my first time taking the ferry so I needed instructions. Denise gave me the Clipper card, and one needed it as they enter, and as they exited. That is how the ferry people calculate the cost of the trip. Other than that, it is easy to use, and I found the staff who worked there polite and willing to explain this process to me. So unless one loses the card, then one will likely figure out the way in and out. I have experienced fog. But fog in LA, at least for me, is not a treat of nature. It is a way that nature reminds me to drive more safe or else. Like one time, I was in the freeway, and I was about to exit, and the fog was so thick-- scary thick. I could not see the car in front of me or behind me. As a result, I stopped driving because I was not sure if I needed to stall, or drive in by inch. With hindsight, I know I should have driven inch by inch, but in the moment, my thoughts for action were processing slower than usual because they were piercing the fog of the night. My passenger told me to drive, because if I did not drive we could be hit by another car who did not expect a car in non-movement in the freeway. This was my last vivid memory of fog, being in a freeway, slightly frightened. But, thankfully, the ferry allowed me to see the fog, as lovely, and more importantly, it transported me to Maine, or Avalon, and other places known for thick mist. As the ferry went to San Francisco, I marveled at the bay, in gray. I took care to snap pic to invite the reader to my moment in water, on boat. I saw the sun barely visible. Its own light could not shine through the blanket of gray. As a person, like I said before, who has not been around fog too much the sun looked like an alien point in the sky. I might sounding like a child whose imagination has not learned restraint, but I felt like I had traveled to foreign land and I was witnessing extraterrestrial heavenly bodies in space. Additionally, the water had no blue, it had no turquoise, it was gray, and slow, not still, just calm. The water I knew of beaches and other harbors had age. It had grown and I was visiting it not in a retirement home, not enjoying its golden years, but as it sat in a comfortable chair, resting because it was reflecting on its former youth and accomplishments. The water carried the rest of someone who grew old gracefully, basically. As I marveled at the other pictures, I heard the faint sound of a foghorn. And it did not sound obnoxious, it did not sound like melody either, do not get me wrong. It sounded like a flute making lovely boom sounds, helping me understand that I was in boat, tugging along the sea. The peace of the moment was felt in the breeze, the waters, and now in the waves that carry sound. It was a treat for all my sense, ok maybe not taste. I will not say that I tasted the sea breeze, but I could have tasted something from the snack bar. I did take an 8 second video, to share my voyage with others. For me, it felt, like I was standing still, and seeing a gray hoop skirt dress twirl with an ombre effect. I know that sounds weird, and maybe I am not explaining myself well, and I kind of know that I said the word gray a lot, but, what I am ultimately trying to say is that I felt transported to a day where the weather was foggy and all of that enhanced my vacation to a moment worth remembering. The most epic moment came when I was seeing out into the fog, and as the boat move, and outpace the fog, a ship crane appeared, seemingly from out of nowhere. I felt like I saw a drape made of fog pulled back revealing the ship crane. But the moment of awe came because the fog and crane remained still, it was the movement of the boat that pulled the curtain back. I also captured the ships with big boxes (forget what they are called) in a drape of fog which was quietly beautiful in its own way. In another picture, I clipped the plank as I walked to the ship. That is the moment that I knew I was about to be in fog, but I did not expect to be addressed by the fog--- and its message was, fog does not need to blind the eye, it can give it perspective in wondrous gray scale! The cable cars are a staple of San Francisco. And if you're a tourist, it's most likely high up on…read moreyour bucket list of things to do. However, do yourself a favor and don't get on to the cable car from this location. This is the beginning (or end) of 2 lines. Because of that, it is busy but turning the cable cars around can take time which means load time can be slow. And given that it is in the heart of downtown, it is an area of very heavy foot traffic. That means long long lines. It's going to eat up a ton of (what could be) precious time in your day. If you are here to just see a cable car and see what it looks like to have them turn around/switch lines, then great. You can see that from the area easily. However, if you are wanting to actually ride one of the cars, It's a better plan to get on to the other end of one of the lines and ride it in to Union. You will have a much quicker/shorter wait.

This review is for the Cable Car Turntable at Powell and Market Streets in the Union Square/SoMa…read more(South of Market) area in San Francisco. The cable cars are fun and iconic. They've been a symbol of the city for over 150 years now, since 1873. There are four turntables: 1. Powell and Market Streets (this one) in Union Square near SoMa. 2. Taylor and Bay Streets in North Beach near Fisherman's Wharf. 3. Hyde and Beach Streets in Fort Mason near Fisherman's Wharf. 4. Car barn next to the Cable Car Museum in Nob Hill. There are three lines: 1. California 2. Powell/Hyde 3. Powell/Mason The California line is a straight shot, roughly east-west, on California Street from the Financial District to Nob Hill, Pork Gulch, and Pacific Heights. The California line doesn't include any turntables. The Powell/Hyde and Powell/Mason lines travel roughly north-south between the Union Square/SoMa and Fisherman's Wharf areas. These two lines include the four turntables mentioned above. The cable cars are a popular tourist attraction and therefore, you'll always see tourists lined up waiting to board at the turntables. This turntable at Powell and Market is located "downtown" in a retail area. Along with retail and hotels, this area also has numerous restaurants and office towers/buildings, and the turntable is situated right next to a major BART station (Powell Street Station) and an SF Muni station (Powell Station). In addition, each day, vendors set up tables and canopies to sell stuff and you're likely to run into street performers and religious folks holding signs and speaking into megaphones. So, there's a lot going on around this turntable. As for the turntable experience itself, it can be interesting to watch the SF Muni staff (the cable cars are operated by SF Muni) manually operate the turntables. Coming and going from our hotel, we noticed this turntable was consistently busy with riders, day and night. Cable car tickets must be purchased in advance. I like to use the Clipper Card on my phone because it works for BART too. If you're stuck outside State and youre waiting for a 29 that is of course taking it's sweet ass…read moremother fucking time, and there literally isn't one coming for like 30 minutes, if you see a 17 pull up, do yourself a favor and just GET ON IT! One day I found this out when there was some traffic accident on Sunset (before Taraval) which was causing the 29 to be shut down for a hour or so until the accident was cleared. And I personally hate the 28 with all my soul, so I was stuck. There wasn't an M coming for another 15 mins or so, but then i looked up the street and saw a 17 coming my way. And it's header said West Portal, alright i told myself, lets get on this bus. And when I did I was amazed to find that no one else did. i shit you not I had this bus completely to myself. We made a couple loops through Park Merced (laaaaaame, but totally awesome if you lived there) and afte ronly about not even 10 minutes, I found myself right at the front of West Portal Station. And what was just peaking it's beautiful head out from that tunnel? A L MUNI!! Ellated I ran to catch my beloved L and head on home. Def a good call in a pinch.
