My friend falls very frequently here and no one seemed interested in finding out why or how it stop it. It finally took many friends making a lot of noise before they even put an alarm on his bed. Obvious, visible problems (a nasty eye infection, e.g.) are ignored - no diagnosis, no medication, no assistance for keeping the eye clean. Less visible, but just as obvious, problems are also ignored. My friend became unable to walk due to knee problems and was moved into a wheelchair. Since that time, no PT was administered and he subsequently developed blood clots in his leg that were causing critical health concerns by the time they were noticed. This place is so bad, it needs to be investigated. Shameful, shameful care for a very high price.

What we like most is how much she engages with dad. Dad is 93 with advanced Parkinson's, and some heart issues. They talk about the past, sing songs together. Dad texted me this morning and said " I am up, dressed scrubbed and shaved. What a nice job Sharon does." I highly recommend her. We love her!

From the moment I spoke with a receptionist, then with Shola, one of the case workers, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. Shola explained clearly what they could and could not do for my sister, what their schedule could be, what the rates were. Before plans were finalized, I also got a call from Jonathan Wishnick, the owner -- this truly is a business where the owners know what is going on and care about their clients. When Senior Helpers went to meet my sister, they called back with some concerns about her situation of which I had been unaware -- thanks to them, we were able to resolve those problems and now my sister is thriving. For two months we have had a lovely lady named Sara going to my sister for three hours each day. Now that my sister is in better health she will have a visit only once a week. My sister loves Sara's visits. I'm not sure if I can say enough about how grateful I am to Senior Helpers. I was terrified when I learned that my sister had been hospitalized, that she was sent home unable to care for herself -- and I was thousands of miles away unable to help. I almost cannot believe that there could be a "business" that can step in and fill the place of family, taking care of my sister with such dedication and kindness. I am eternally grateful!

The home health aide assigned to me is pleasant, but not proactive. I understand there some tasks…read morethat home health aides are prohibited from doing. However, there are many tasks that can be done within the boundaries of what home health aides can do. Forty-five minutes to an hour of work gets done to complete basic cleaning. After that, the home health aide spends the rest of the time sitting and fiddling with their cell phone. I have suggested to management that the home health aide should leave once all is done. I was told that wasn't possible. Well, I have groceries delivered, I can make my own simple meals, I can bathe myself, I'm not craving to have a companion to talk with, and I have to wipe up whatever I drop on the floor on the days the home health aide is not scheduled to be at my home. The home health aide should always be noticing as well as asking me what else can be done during the time at my home. I also have a concern with the home health aide wanting to do tasks other than the way I prefer. There was an situation where the trash can was being emptied before it was completely full. The home health aide insisted on taking it out until I said otherwise. I'm on a limited budget, which I have explained to the home health aide before. I can't keep replacing cleaning supplies constantly because the home health aide won't be mindful of the amounts being used. I often wonder what level of training is being given at the agency.

When…read moreit came to long term care, for my now 96 year old Mother (who is also my best friend), there was not even a question as to what the choice would be. From our side and from hers. Citadel of Wilmette!!! We were referred to Citadel by Evanston Hospital and her primary physician for rehab following a very serious fall last year at 95 for which she was hospitalized.The rehab and the staff at Citadel is beyond anything one could imagine. Personal, lovely, exceptional in their knowledge and care. She was successfully rehabbed and we brought her home, but she was so sad to go. Shortly there after, she suffered another fall for which she broke her hip and again was hospitalized and chose Citadel for her rehab facility. Again, same experience and she was greeted back with open arms and hugs and a determination and willingness to get her successfully rehabbed again. Within a few weeks, she was ready again to walk and rehab was successful. But what was clear now for us as a family, and for my Mother, was that going home and living independently now would no longer be an option. We faced the fact that long term care was now a fact and that living on her own would be fatally unsafe. Knowing the answer ourselves as a family that Citadel was the #1 choice for long term care, we asked our Mother where SHE wanted to be for her long term care. She said HERE of course with all of my "friends". You see, she does not call the staff her caregivers, they are all her "friends". In my life, I have never seen a nursing home or hospital or actually ANY staff as happy, joyful, caring, patient, diligent, smart, safer and loving as the staff at Citadel of Wilmette. I am almost crying while writing this, because my heart is so abundant with love and thanks for this incredible facility and staff for making my Mother in these twilight years SO happy and cared for, safe and feeling like she is at home. Mary, my Mother calls Citadel her home and we as a family do too. The location of Citadel is outstanding as when we visit we can enjoy the fireplace and bird room with her and take her for wonderful outings in the town of Wilmette and neighboring villages. And when I work in Los Angeles, which is often, I can FINALLY rest my head on the pillow at night knowing my Mother is safe and so very, happy. The facility is extremely clean and modern and upkeep is outstanding. The KIND, LOVING, JOYFUL, HAPPY, PATIENT AND EXTRAORDINARY staff is like nothing I have ever seen before and their long term care and their rehab is the BEST you will ever get.
