The challenge was to find the right caregiver and process of introduction to make my dad feel comfortable that he was not giving up his independence by having a caregiver visit him. Chris took the time necessary to meet with father and discuss the situation with him directly so that my father was part of the decision making process. We were able to ease the transition by starting out with a unit for dad to have to call for help if he could not get to the phone or if he fell and needed emergency assistance, Chris was able to provide this service with a Direct Link unit. After a few weeks Chris specifically recommended a caregiver that he felt would match well with my dad's personality and needs. Kathie was brought in to meet father prior to getting started to make sure he felt good about it. Kathie is exceptional and could not have been a better companion for dad. We started with a few hours a week so dad would not be intimidated by the change. As dad's care needs increased, Chris stayed involved to provide additional assistance, even staying with dad himself sometimes to make sure he was OK. When we realized that it would be best for dad to move to a facility Kathie continued to assist us with much needed support since I do not live close to dad. This was truly a great experience for my dad, who has become attached to Kathie and appreciates her help. For me it has helped to alleviate the stress associated with caring for my dad from a long distance. I highly recommend Home Helpers and Chris Gerardi if your family needs a caregiver; they really are concerned about the quality of life for their client families.

My daughter has been dealing with recurring foot pain for several years, so we came seeking a thorough evaluation and answers. Instead, the appointment lasted about ten minutes before the physician quickly concluded that it was simply "growing pains." The visit felt rushed, our concerns were dismissed, and there was little effort to understand why she had been experiencing recurring pain for so long. The doctor casually recommended that she wear a walking boot on and off, without explaining why it was necessary, discussing alternative treatments, or informing us that the boot would cost nearly $500. We trusted his medical judgment and assumed this was the appropriate course of treatment. Afterward, we sought a second opinion from another physician, who told us that the boot was unnecessary and that a simple cushioned insert or inexpensive foot pad would likely have provided the same relief. It was incredibly frustrating to learn that we had spent hundreds of dollars on something that may never have been needed. To make matters worse, when we contacted IBJI to discuss the situation, they were unwilling to work with us in any way. They would not consider adjusting the bill, would not allow us to return the unused boot, and the staff we dealt with were dismissive, rude, and unhelpful throughout the process. Rather than showing empathy or attempting to resolve a legitimate concern, they simply stood by the charge. Between the rushed appointment, the expensive recommendation without meaningful discussion, and the complete lack of customer service afterward, this experience left us feeling taken advantage of rather than cared for. I would strongly encourage other parents to ask detailed questions about treatment options, costs, and less expensive alternatives--and to seek a second opinion before purchasing expensive medical equipment.

In my notes, I later saw statements that didn't match what I reported (for example, saying I "denied recent trauma," which I did not). On 9/25/2025 my MyChart showed missing items (visits/messages/billing). I asked IBJI Compliance, including Ms. Kristin Simmons, for (1) a formal amendment decision under 45 CFR 164.526, (2) confirmation that the full native audit trail is preserved (who/when/what changed, before/after values, user/role, workstation), (3) an Accounting of Disclosures, and (4) a temporary safety/banner note while my concerns were reviewed. By my stated date, I didn't receive a clear written grant or denial. To me, the lack of a written decision felt like a denial, and the overall handling felt retaliatory in nature. The delay has affected my care. Bottom line: My personal impression is that the process felt confusing and not patient-centered. I would have preferred clear, timely written answers and complete portal records. This is my experience and opinion.

Even w clients who are stubborn or difficult, those who require a lot of physical care (lifting, toilet, bathing), those w advanced dementia, Elijah caregivers treat all they serve w the utmost integrity and respect. What an extraordinary gift to be able to breathe easier, relax knowing you have made the best choice for the one you love.
