i booked a room for two nights, and on the second day around 4 PM. It sounded like a fight had started outside of the room. It escalated very quickly, but ended fast as well. I was very unsatisfied with the cleanliness of this room. And I no longer felt safe inside or outside of the hotel. I do not think this place is bad, it does seem to have lots of traffic, and is very active with people.

The "clean towels" they gave me

The only good thing about this is there's no deposit! But why would there be? it's (for lack of a better word) a shithole! The employees make it that much more awful! i asked for extra towels and both times they gave me dirty towels. This place should be bulldozed! Great place to buy drugs though!!!

For some reason they unplug the refrigerator. Maybe for energy savings? So it's warm and unplugged when you check in.

DON'T COME HERE!!! Revising my review upon checkout. Read all the way through... 3/12/22 The price is great for the area, but you get what you pay for. It's right off the freeway and noisy. It's dirty and all of the furniture is old. There was a homeless guy in the parking lot (I gave him half of my Subway sandwich). When I went to put the other half in the mini fridge, the fridge wasn't cold. I thought it might be broken, at first, but then realized it was unplugged. Maybe they unplug every time someone checks out? Nothing like a warm fridge to greet you in a new room. Also the faucett in the bathtub was running water when I checked in. I don't mean dripping. I mean a full on stream of water that was loud enough to hear as soon as I opened the door to my room. I turned the knob over and over again and couldn't get it to turn off. I went to call the front desk to tell them about it, but the phone in the room didn't work. I checked behind the nightstand and found it was unplugged (there's a theme, here) but after I plugged it in, STILL no dial tone, so I had to walk to the night window and ask them to turn the water off. To their credit a maintenance guy came immediately, but he wasn't able to turn the water off completely. He did manage to get it to a light drip, at least, which was quiet enough that it didn't bother me other than offending my drought sensibilities. Waste of water, but maybe the energy savings from the unplugged fridge cancels that out? LOL. There was a small flat screen TV and microwave that (miracle of miracles!) were plugged in and worked. Nightstands had granite surfaces and were large enough for all my junk. There was a desk in the room. Lighting from wall lamps was soft and gold, which is soothing but not ideal for reading. Holes in the lampshades. Bed pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. Also window was wide open with a flimsy screen so any maniac could break in with little effort. Thank goodness the noisy traffic tipped me off to that because the curtains were closed and I might not have noticed, otherwise. Vista Inn is a decent last resort if you're on a budget, but I would avoid this place at all costs if you have the luxury of less affordable, better options. 3/13/22 So whatever the maintenance guy did to turn the faucett off yesterday was permanent. When I went to take a shower this morning, I couldn't turn the water on. I walked to the front window (remember, the phones don't work) to tell them I wanted a new room or a discount because I really needed a working shower. They were full, so I couldn't switch rooms. They sent the same maintenance guy from yesterday back. He removed the shower knob, did something with a screwdriver to turn the water on, put the knob back on, said something to me in Spanish (I don't speak Spanish) and left the screw driver with me. So evidently the only way to turn the water off and on is if you remove the knob and use a screwdriver to do something mysterious that I wasn't paying attention to and then put the knob back on again. The shower is still going as I'm checking out of room 103. I don't have time to figure this out. I have someplace to be. Gallons upon gallons of wasted water in a drought. DO NOT COME HERE!

Look at this crap. I wonder if I can sue.....

Shit splatters and mold in the "sanitized" toilet

Place was disgusting. Paid over 200$ for a room. Checked in and the room had roaches all over!! Lady at the front said "I don't have to look I believe you." She gave us a second room. Sink was broke, "sanitized" toilet had shit splatters and mold, our pillows had black stains and what looked like black mold dots on them. The sheets were the quality of shower curtains, tv did not work and NO REFUND. Wish I could give this place no stars it fucking sucks.

Morning view from bottom floor room.

These rooms are huge!! But like any other motel or inn, you get what you paid for. I've honestly stayed in much smaller rooms, but this is in a bit of a sketchy spot. But not bad, I say. Came here randomly to stay thinking it'd be fun to get a room but unfortunately came during spring break and prices were way up! Still though, the cheapest hotel room around. I definitely wouldn't stay here by myself though. Maybe I'm kind of a wuss, but the area just looks really bad and scary. Mornings pretty nice though, and the rooms are clean and basic. Consensus. It's "alright".

Ayres Hotel Vista Carlsbad exceeded all of my expectations, and it was a pleasure to stay here. We got a double queen room, and the beds were very comfortable. The room itself is your standard mid-range hotel room, but everything was clean, the shower water pressure was decent, there were plenty of device charging plugs, there's a mini fridge in the cabinet, and the bathroom sink is separate from the toilet and shower area. I don't particularly like this restroom setup, but what are you gonna do? The free breakfast is great. They have a made-to-order omelette station, with an actual person behind a counter taking orders and making your food. They also have a self-serve waffle-making station, oatmeal cups, yogurt, cereal, and a mango-infused water (fancy!). The only thing is that the coffee they offered in the dining room was trash. What you want to do is go visit the Keurig coffee maker by the front desk, which is available to guests all day. Make yourself a cup of coffee from there, and thank me later. There is indoor seating, but do yourself a favor and go out to the patio and enjoy your breakfast outdoors in the perfect Carlsbad morning air. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day, which is a relief and as it should be. There is also a laundry room, with super fast washers and dryers. Ayres Hotel is set up in the hills a bit, so there isn't anything nearby to walk to. But if you're in a pinch and need something for dinner, they make wood-fired pizzas in-house and have happy hour specials.

It's an all suites hotel so it served that need. The room itself on appearance was very nice, perhaps recently refurbished and felt clean and modern. We had a couple experiences which made it a little weird though. The rooms have motion detecting lights that you can only sort of control. The shower for example...the light turns off when you're in the shower as it doesn't sense your motion and there's no way (obvious to us) to force it to stay on. That was a bummer for the 2 of us who wanted to shower but had to do so in the dark unless we opened the shower door and waved our arm around to hopefully catch the attention of the sensor to give us another 30 seconds of light. This also happens if you're sitting on the toilet. The last thing I want to think about in that situation is having to provide additional motion so the light doesn't turn out. In the living space, a light also automatically turns on when it senses motion. Not great for having our son trying to sleep in that room and us having to move through it to leave the room or access the kitchen to have all the lights suddenly turn on around our sleeping boy. Also had a disappointing non-fitness room experience. The fitness room was no accessible because of renovations...okay bad luck in terms of timing...but they said I could go to the adjacent Hampton Inn and use their fitness room which was open 24 hours. So I did, but, unfortunately their fitness room actually isn't open 24 hours as I learned when I got there. So no fitness room and wasted time walking in the rain to the hotel next door based in the inaccurate info given by the staff. So overall disappointing and strange (especially the lights situation)...seems like they forget to dot a few Is when setting these rooms up.
