I made an appointment for my children for a vision checkup just because we have a "vision plan" and the office was really beautiful. I was shocked to learn that my 5 year old daughter had severe astigmatism and needed glasses! Dr. K and her staff made her feel so lucky to have to wear glasses and helped her find a pair of "pink" glasses. She was super excited when they were ready (after only 3-4 days) and felt very special wearing them. I was grateful for the way they handled this because I was making a bigger deal out of it than it really was. Not even one month later, we had an "accident" and somehow the glasses were crushed with my car? I really don't know for certain what happened but when I took them in I found out they were not fixable and it would cost $165 just for the frames! I was so upset, but they called me after a few minutes and said they called the manufacturer (Juicy Couture) and were able to get a replacement pair since they might have been "defective"? I was so relieved and grateful for them going out of their way to make this request for us! I definitely recommend Dr. K and her office for all your optometry needs especially if you have children! read more

I started going to Visual Expressions several years ago when my current optometrist in my city no longer accepted the insurance I had. At the time, I asked my optometrist for a referral and she referred me to Dr. K. At first, I was a little weary since the office was all the way in Danville but after my first visit I knew the drive was worth it. Dr. K is great and her office is very nice. She has high-end optical equipment and it was a step above my previous eye doctor's equipment that looked like it had been there for decades. My family and I have been coming to Visual Expressions for the past 3 years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Khayatan is great! She is very patient and trustworthy. Ok, had to update, even though it's so soon after the original review. I am bumping up to five stars based on the follow up to my original visit for an eye exam. The glasses (eyeglasses and sunglasses) from Visual expressions were the best glasses I've ever had. I don't know what they do, but the optics are pretty stunning. I'm a bit of a nerd about optics due to my use of binoculars and scopes for hunting...I am sensitive to light gathering/clarity type differences and these glasses remind me of very high end German optics. The clarity is amazing and there is almost a 3-D like effect (in a very good way) when you look through the glasses. Things pop and stand out where they never did in my old glasses. Hyperbole, perhaps, but the glasses really shocked me with how much better they are than anything else I've had. And the staff at Visual Expressions are the epitome of outstanding customer service and professionalism. Five stars+. read more

I have been coming to Visual Expressions for over 5 years now and I can say I am truly pleased with the service I have received during that time. Not only is Dr. Khayatan patient and attentive to my concerns I can tell she genuinely cares. One key event that reassured me was after having a change in my prescription and difficulty adjusting which caused headaches, Dr. Khayatan was very attentive about helping me find a solution. After a lens change and wearing my new prescription for a couple months I can see improvements in my reading duration without headaches and irritation which is a huge relief. Another shout out goes to the Visual Expressions team. I must have tried on every pair of frames before I found the right one and the girls were so helpful and patient. Although I can say I feel guilty, the girls were nothing but polite and I appreciate that I wasn't rushed. Also being that I didn't have insurance I was concerned about the cost but I was able to get some cute Gucci frames at a reasonable price which made my day. I've been going to Visual Expressions for 3 years for my yearly eye exam and to get glasses and contact lenses. Exams are a pleasure here. Dr. Khayatan and her team are super nice and accommodating and take care of patients quickly. My prescriptions have always been very accurate. My only complaint about Visual Expressions is their minimal collection of frames. I suppose I may have high expectations... I used to get my eyes checked at an optometrist's office in San Francisco that had, literally, a thousand frames in stock at all times. Visual Expressions carries some popular brand names, like Sama, Juicy Couture, Gucci, and Fred, but I always have a hard time finding a frame I like. The frames in stock are pretty much all small and plastic or rimless, perfect for Danville's rich soccer mom community. No hipster frames here, unfortunately. :( read more

Dr. Selin Khayatan is the best Optometrist our family has had. Her team is professional, they always work with our family to accomodate us, they are ever so friendly and personable. But most of all Dr. K is competent and knows her stuff. In my case she detected that I needed to have a laser treatment due to "closed angles". She worked hard to get me into see a specialist the same week- as I actually was living overseas and just back in the bay area on a home visit. The procedure was very simple and saved me from perhaps having some very serious problems with my eyesight in the future. It seems that i am experiencing many firsts with Seline: 1) The first time that I have been unhappy with a product and the vendor would not even mediate 2) This is my first negative review on yelp 3) My first time in small claims court. By the way I prevailed and yet Seline still refuses to make it right. She has appealed and we will return again to court in Feb. She is trying to get the ruling in my favor reversed. Unlikely, since a vendor in CA must post a policy clearly if they are not going to exchange problem products. It is important that I provide other clarifications too: I was instructed by Seline's staff that I could not choose the same manufacturer and HAD to change suppliers. My insurance company told her they would provide the lens for free if she would replace the problem frames Her offer to discount new frames came at the last minute. I paid a very high price for the glasses and am still surprised that Seline would not even mediate a resolution. It is a mystery why I had the allergic reaction to those frames. I have purchased new glasses that have worked out fine and it has never happened before. It is not Seline's fault that the glasses did not work for me. The nature of a good vendor is apparent only when there is a problem. Her refusal to correct the problem or honor the courts ruling is a bigger mystery. read more

After some research and enthusiastic recommendations, I made an appointment and was fitted for new contact lenses and glasses. Dr. Khayatan and her support staff, Mohiba, Gillian and the rest could not have been more professional, kind and helpful. I found the office by way of a Living Social offer that was too good to pass up for someone like me that wears glasses everyday (never been much of a contacts girl). The only reason I didn't want to give a 5 star here was because of the prices for lenses, frames, etc., knowing full well that any time I walk into the Blackhawk Plaza I would be paying more for anything up there (see my review on Roti8 and save yourselves the experience) it was still a bit staggering even with the great deal from Living Social; but i believe that great service and slightly higher prices should outweigh crappy service and better prices any day. That being said, Mohiba at the front desk is so personable and fun that I found myself just hanging out longer to chat! She's also very honest (when asked) about how different frames look on your face. She was able to answer all of my questions up front and tell me which would be the best way to use not only my coupon but also my VSP discount. The doctor was pleasant and the basic exam was a breeze since she doesn't dilate but I barely saw her and have only seen her one time in the office/showroom since and I've been there about 6 times now... that was a bit odd. Still, I was only planning to get frames and the quick and easy exam was just icing on the cake. Give them a try if only for an exam- the staff is great and the quality can't be beat but be ready to pay a little more. I'm extremely happy with my experiences there are plan to see Mihiba next year for another set of frames! read more

We waited 45 mins for a scheduled appointment for a 4 year old. Common sense isn't exactly "common" at this joint, they failed to understand why waiting so long was an issue. We frequented this place for many years and were quite happy - unfortunately, with the addition of a new Dr and the "challenged" front desk staff this place has lost its luster over the last 6 months.
