We have been going to Visual Expressions since my daughter was 3 years old. Dr. K is wonderful with children and she uses the latest technical advances in eye care. The office is beautiful. It is like going into a day spa, not a doctor's office. If you ever need to wait (like for dilating eyes) you can get a snack at Starbucks and watch ducks in the pond outside the office. We have never waited for our appointments, they are always on time. The staff members are so sweet. The customer service is exceptional. They have gone above and beyond for my daughter, I can't say enough. We have insurance, but Dr. K isn't covered by our particular plan. I would rather pay cash to go to Visual Expressions than go to an in network provider...that is how great this office is! read more

I went to Visual Expressions Optometry over the weekend to get an exam for eyeglasses. I left extremely happy with the service I received at this office. I felt very welcome from the first moment I walked in to the office. I was greet by Stephanie and Irene with a welcoming smile on their faces and quickly to assist me. I saw Dr.Khayatan for my exam, and she was thorough and friendly. I gotta say..... She is probably one of the best optometrists I've every been to. In addition, her staff was very nice and knowledgable. I got exceptional service from her office manager, Tiffany. I didn't feel pressured into purchasing eyewear at all. I do have to say they do have a wide variety of eyeglasses and sunglasses with different styles to fit every face and very reasonable price. If they don't have it in the office you can always ask the staff to order the pair for you. They also have lab on site that quicker turn around. They took their time to help you pick out the best style frames fit best to your face shape. They explained all the options for you before you make your decision. They went beyond any of my requests to check in with my insurance to make sure I was getting everything I could out of my coverage. At the end of my visit, I ended with a brand new pair Lindberg eyeglasses and as well as Tomford sunglasses which I absolutely love. I definitely think they have something for everyone since their selection of glasses is huge ranging from designer frames to more affordable options. Found Dr. Khayatan through my Ins Provider and as luck would have it her practice is located in Bkackhawk just a mile or so down the road from me. I made an appointment for my annual eye exam and made it in the following week. I was very pleased with how I was greeted by the staff and made to feel relaxed. The whole experience felt very personal and I love that they require 'Appointments' because it gives a very personalized experience...reminded me of being in a shop off of Maiden Lane in SF with a Private Shopper. While I waited for my exam I perused the selection and was happy to see that the styles they carried were definitely me...except for 'Juicy couture' and the glaring absence of Dior, Versace or Dolce & Gabana, however the Tom Fords and the Roberto Cavalli's more than compensated! When I met Dr. Khayatan to begin my exam I was a little bit nervous, but her warm smile and pleasant demeanor made me feel relaxed and her background and overall involvement in the Optometric Industry added a sense of security that I could trust her to help with my "Optometric Challenges'...my left eye is 'Near Sighted' and my right eye is 'Far Sighted' and both having 'Astigmatism'!!! I mentioned this to her as well as my anxiety as we began the exam and then we reached the part of the exam which I hate since it is when your eyeball is numbed and "tested"! This is the part where I am so glad she has experience working with Children because it sure took patience to finish that part of the test! God Bless her! LOL! That part completed, I was introduced to Alyna who is quite an energetic character! She made the Frame choosing a lot more interesting than I expected and helped me focus my final decision on some killer MiuMiu's for daily wear and Roberto Cavalli sunglasses for driving. After being advised of the timeframe for both glasses to be completed, some issues came up with the lab that provided the lenses for which delayed the arrival of the Sunglasses. Being a Senior Technical Consultant and working for companies such as Apple, Inc and Cognizant I am a strong believer in delivering on set expectations. I was very pleased when Dr. Khayatan stepped in, made no excuses and did what had to be done to ensure I was happy with the whole experience. Something I am very familiar with when dealing with clients on a daily basis when deliverables aren't met. I admire Dr. Khayatan's proactive thinking and respect not just as an experienced Optometrist but also as a savvy Business Woman! I highly recommend her and Josette Hoffman you are coming with me to the 'Mixer' on 4/17 and getting your eyes checked! LOL! This place is amazing! I went there for a specific pair of glasses that I couldn't find anywhere else, and, from the moment I walked in, everyone was so genuinely nice and helpful to me. Tiffany, their manager, is outstanding! She answered all of my questions, helped me try on countless pairs of glasses, and, when she found out that insurance wouldn't be helping me with my purchase, did everything she could to help me get the glasses at an affordable price! After I purchased the glasses I had been looking for, they were ready for pick-up incredibly fast and they are perfect! Dr Khayatan is a wonderful Optometrist. Myself and my children have seen her for several years. Only issue that I have has been with the front desk. I can't say the lady up front is a good introduction to the office. She comes off rude and can be unhelpful. We have had to come in 8-9 times to repair the glasses we purchased there because of some sort of defect. She tightens the screw and tells me I am to rough with them. DO NOT RECOMMEND! They are all about money and "their" convenience! I dragged my husband there, on a Saturday for a much needed and scheduled appm't. and Dr. Khayatan only performed 1/2 the exam for a fee and told us we needed to return to complete the exam, for another fee! Seems she was going to the wine country with her family that day!!!! I have always received a full exam from other doctors and for one fee! Also, I discovered that my eyeglasses scratched very easily, to the point where I couldn't use them (and I am always very careful with them), so I went to another optometry shop and was told it was because Dr. Khayatan used a very expensive product that scratched easier than most products and he questioned why she would use that product in my lenses!! In all my years of wearing glasses I have NEVER had my lenses scratch! From my perspective with Visual Expresssions it's all about how much money they can make......not good service! I have been wearing glasses since I was in third grade and I'm 64 now. The last 20 or more years I have had progressives with many upgrades and at an upscale boutique like this one and designer frames $800 or $900+ is not unusual. I have also gone to Lens Crafters. We recently moved into the area and I needed a new pair so tried this spot. The service was abysmal with the sales staff very interested in their coffee and not in customers. They made you feel you were in the way. They got my Rx from another locale in another city and I received my glasses. For the first time every I felt that I could not walk down stairs (like at BART) safely -- the lenses were misaligned. It took me a awhile to get in (a couple of months, due to illness). Two weeks before I went in, I used a Lens Crafters special for sunglasses and was informed that my Rx was too old and that this firm should have strongly urged me to get an exam as the date then was too close. Lens Crafters required an exam. The service there was stellar and I got an extra regular pair of designer glasses (see Jaime in Pleasant Hill). Their doctor said to take the other pair back and they should "gladly" redo the lenses. Well, I did take them back and explained the difficulty seeing with the lenses and the issue with the Rx. The gal at the desk did everything she could to make me feel like a "criminal" with a nasty attitude telling me how the lenses had to be ok and it was my fault because there was a month or more left on the legal requirement for a new Rx. That technicality may be true, but when you go to a high end place like this you expect to receive stellar service--certainly better than Lens Crafters! After being treated negatively for about 15 minutes my husband and I told her we would leave and I would not be back. My old doctor and his practice would greet you in such a case with an "I'm sorry these didn't work for you let's make it right--your sight is too important" and write the item off. In fact they have always been so generous with people that we try to force them to take money! But not here. They are not interested in building a relationship with a long-term client and I do not recommend them--they failed as people and they failed technically getting the lenses centered properly. read more

I called Dr. Khayatan's office for a mild eye problem that couldn't wait for my annual exam. I had been going to another local optometrist for 15 years, but became increasingly dissatisfied and uncomfortable with him and his staff. The staff at Visual Expressions answered the phone even a few minutes before they opened, and I was seen that morning. Beautiful office, very knowledgable staff, efficient operation. They have a thorough understanding of vision and medical insurance plans. Had a thorough exam and discussion with Dr. Khayatan- she is a lovely, friendly, courteous professional. Got drops for my eyes and went back for my annual exam a few weeks later. Dr. K diagnosed an issue with my eyes that my previous optometrist never mentioned, a condition that could potentially cause sudden pain and vision loss. I'd never been told this before! She was calm and didn't make me panic- she described the condition and potential outcomes. She referred me to a world-class ophthalmologist in the area, who completely agreed with her diagnosis and will perform quick and painless laser procedures soon to correct the condition. I'm now a huge fan of Dr. K and her staff. Oh, BTW, my previous doc seemed to constantly change my prescription for glasses. Cha-Ching. Dr K didn't. No high pressure to buy new glasses. read more

I visited Visual Expressions for an eye exam and new glasses and was extremely pleased with the attentiveness of the staff, selection of designer glasses and ultimately the DITA glasses received. Dr. Khayatan was friendly and professional and provided my eye exam with minimal delay and attention to detail, but I was most impressed with Jeannie--the Optometric Technician who helped me through the entire process. Jeannie had a great attitude and was quite patient in helping me select the best looking frames for me, and then she explained all the lense options as well as what my insurance did and did not cover. I was satisfied that I had been very well-informed when I placed my order and left. I returned a week or so later to pick up the glasses and was happy to find Jeannie working again; she then expertly helped with final adjustments and I left with a gorgeous pair of perfectly fitting DITA glasses. Dr. Khayatan and her staff are wonderful to work with! She is very friendly and professional. Her practice has "state of art" equipment, and her staff is second to none! I used to visis another "high end" optometry/eyeglass practice across the street, but as good as the Doctor is there, his front office staff seem only interested in selling you the most expensive frames they can, and I used to walk out of there every time feeling dupped. I was so frustrated at their unwillingness to give me a discount of $12.00...thats right, $12.00 off of a $500+ tab.That is when I went across the street and I met the excellent people at Visual Expressions. They not only were flexible with pricing on frames with me (unlike the Safeway plaza eyeglass store), but their staff is very pleasant, polite, and very accomodating. I especially want to thank the front office girl (I think her name is Mohiba) for always going the extra mile to make my experiences there very enjoyable. I do not know how Rieko's comments hold any truth about Mohiba. I have spent time waiting my turn in the lobby and have seen her interact with other customers, and they all seem very pleased with her service (and could understand her english just fine).
