Great selection! They carry many of the expected brands at the expected price point if you are looking for outdoor clothing. One of the young men working there helped my son select hiking shoes and socks. Another helpful young man looked in his inventory system to find out if they had a different size in the shorts I wanted. Then, he tracked them down on the rack. Great experience! read more

Wonderful staff here that's available and helpful, and not pushy. Great sales deals too and easy to navigate store layout. I've been here 3 times and am impressed with the staff in the running section. I come here first before going to other running stores when I'm ready to check out athletic gear and especially Salomon running shoes. Easy to find on Golden main Washington street and lots of free street parking (it's on the corner). I recommend this place. read more

This i a really great store in the heart of downtown Golden. It is a nice compliment to the bike shop (peak cycles) and gear store down the street (Bent Gate). Those two stores are a little more gear specific. Vital outdoors really focuses on apparel. They have all the well respected brands (patagonia, keen, northface, etc) and some really cool smaller labels. For the north face and patagonia stuff they are not anymore expensive than REI. A little tidbit.......Every first Friday of the month Golden gives out coupons to be used at participating stores so at the very least you can knock off 5%. After 15 years i finally needed new hiking boots. Vital has a great selection of quality brand boots suitable for hiking all the way up to serious backpacking. i love Keen boots and found a wide choice of high and low top Keens, which can be hard to find. Our salesperson Chris had great expert advice and helped me to find just the right boot with just the right fit for hiking, and he is also a really nice guy. Definitely made a huge difference to buy boots this way. The shop had lots of other outdoor gear that looked top notch. This store sells quality products with quality service. read more

Generally an awesome store in the heart of Golden. They have pretty much everything an outdoor enthusiast would want from hiking gear and shoes to athletic apparel and packs. Very friendly and helpful staff who are always willing to give you their opinion on their good, but are never pushy about it and they honor your personal experience and expertise. Great selection of everything and this is where I go for all my hiking needs. The people here are super friendly and super helpful! I called beforehand and they were super courteous on the phone. They held an item for me and it was the last one they had. I had previously ordered it as a gift for a friend and it arrived the day of his birthday. But... Amazon shipped the wrong item and I was frantic to find it. Vital Outdoors was the only store that carried it and I was super grateful. As with a lot of gear, things are expensive and it ended up being significantly more expensive than the deal on Amazon and when I mentioned this, they were quick to offer to price match or to Amazon even though they knew I wouldn't purchased the product regardless of the price difference. read more

SHOP LOCAL! I bought this great Patagonia top at Vital on the fly as I needed something. It was a little more than I would typically spend, but I ended up falling in love with it. So much that I wanted to send one to my niece in Iowa. I made the MISTAKE of ordering it online, called the company to see if it would be there in time for a Christmas party the following weekend... they give me the runaround until I just cancel my order. I then decided to call Vital to see if they ship, and the cost. I call, talk to Chris who confirms they have the shirt in stock, says they will ship for free, and it will likely make it there by Sat. Oh, and I get 10% off for being a member and they'll extend a 20% off discount for their flash sale. Then Chris says, "you want me to wrap that for you too?" You must be kidding me! Their stuff is awesome, their customer service is top notch. I'm so glad this store is a part of Golden's downtown! read more

Strolling through Golden on vacation from Florida, was there during the 20% off sale and was able to get a couple Patagonia jackets for less than I'd get online. The best part of this visit to Vital Outdoors was in talking to the store manager, Brandon, about how my girlfriend and I came from Florida to do some rock climbing but couldn't find a crash pad to rent. After speaking to us for no more than five minutes offered to lend us his own pad for the weekend if we wanted to come back to pick it up on Saturday. We took him up on the offer and got to talk a little more about different routes and places to climb in the area and it was awesome. Just that little extra mile made the trip awesome. Being able to climb in Mt. Glennon overlooking Red Rocks gave us some memories. read more

Contrary to other reviews, I have had mostly poor customer service here (for more than what I am mentioning in this review). If you want to be followed all over the store by employees (like you are going to steal something), then this is the store for you! This has happened to me on many occasions over the past couple if years and needless to say, this store has lost several sales from me alone (and who knows how many other sales from those I have talked to who have had similar experiences). And I am the last person who would ever steal something! Why do I go back? Originally I wanted to support a local store in the town I grew up in but more recently it was due to needing a coat or sweater due to the weather.
