Yosua Silalahi was amazing and so helpful. My husband is the patient and he was always glad to see Yosua on the days he came.

My mother-in-law was under hospice care with VITAS for just under one month and recently passed away due to stomach cancer. My husband and I were the primary caretakers but I don't know how we would have managed without VITAS. Can't say enough good things about our VITAS care team. Our loved one was walking and somewhat independent at the start, and honestly quite a bit resistant to help/pain relieving medications/helpful medical equipment. Our head nurse Ogin handled the situation with professionalism and patience, but also honesty. Eventually, after experiencing all of the help provided, my mother in law told him "I don't like you, I love you." I am not a medical professional but I am particular about the care provided to my loved one, and I saw that everyone we interacted with at VITAS knows what they are doing. They were right about everything they suggested and were proactive in getting us resources/medicines/supplies before we ever got desperate. When something was not an emergency and we didn't need immediate care, they were right in assessing that too. We had Ogin, Mo, Krista, Alma, and eventually when around the clock nurses were needed, Jasmine, Daniel, Zach, and Natalie helped us. We also saw Jaqueline and Rochelle for drop-in visits and chaplain Karis. People should know that the beginning of hospice care can be a bit overwhelming and hectic because there are so many resources being established quickly - the medical equipment/supplies get delivered and bunch of team members reach out to provide assistance. It took a while for my mother in law and us as caretakers to adjust to all of the new faces and devices in our lives but I would advise people to stick with it and stick with VITAS because they have a process that works and honestly the staff are the most caring, compassionate, and respectful people I have ever met. 2 days into Vitas Healthcare. Called at 10:00 pm needed help with my husband was told they were coming. it is now 10.00 am and we have received NO help. Don't count on these people to take care of your loved one Or your needs for the patient. We only had the diaper that was on him.One wet ones to clean. NO BANDAGES! Blood everywhere! This is very sad that there is such a lack of communication! read more

Responsive, informed, and compassionate assistance. We used Vitas for hospice care of a family member. It was my family's first time using hospice care. The hospital was ready to discharge and we still had questions which Vitas staff helped us before our family member went home. Our family member wanted to go home which we supported but also worried if we could help or would need a facility. Figuring out how to help our family member was overwhelming and I appreciated Vitas help with questions before hospice began. We had Ogin as our RN and lead that helped coordinate all the services. Vitas makes it easy to contact with one number available 24 hours. I appreciated that Ogin was upfront and also compassionate. There was no question I felt I could not ask and where we needed a doctor's input, we got answers and assistance quickly from Dr. Mikhail. Vitas sent staff regularly visited and increased frequency as more visits were needed. Alma worked on personal care and helped bathe our family member. Our family all appreciated the respect and dignity Alma treated our loved one. Candi and Ariston were on call nurses that were helpful with our questions. When our family member passed, Lennia was the on-call person and very compassionate. She was patient as we finished our prayers and helped prepare our family member which we cannot thank enough. My family is appreciate of the Vitas team professionalism and compassion which enabled us to provide the best care for our loved one. read more

My Nurse, OGEN, is wonderful. I was concerned in the beginning about a male nurse but he has been very professional.

Care was good for family while she was living. After she passed, its like we fell off the earth. Messages not returned from social worker and management. No card of condolence from those who cared for her for 3 1/2 months, just would have been nice! Asked for bereavement assistance, was told person who does it was on vacation, person covering couldn't help. When Chaplin called, family members were gone. No follow up. My husband was under hospice care from June 3 until June 16. During this difficult time he received excellent care from the Vitas team. They were caring, comforting and gentle. Each member of the team made sure that our family was aware and involved in the care and decisions. Our care team was exceptional. Mo, Ogen, Michelle and Alma - thank you for treating my husband with respect and for enabling us to keep him at home so he was surrounded by family at all times. Our apologies if we have inadvertently missed a name - every person we dealt with was professional and caring. We especially want to thank Alma for the compassion that she showed to my husband. Amazing program, Home health aid Yosua Roy is very helpful with the daily hygiene of my Father. I truly recommend this program to anyone who is in need of assistance with end of life care. Ogen is awesome. He takes time with me. He's a very caring person. I don't know what I'd do without him.

My Mom was transferred to hospice care while in the hospital. After the insurance and required paperwork was signed the nurse left and no further information was shared. The nurse sure did appear quickly for signatures and the left just as quick. No services were explained and no phone numbers were provided. The visits were pointless as they consisted of checking vitals. One nurse asked if I needed anything during the visit at 3AM. I had to use my work connections (nurse with a Vitas contact) to get someone to reach out to me to clarify why no information was shared or what I should have been told. Even the manager Chelsea gave me information that was not correct (about a mysterious purple binder that included a care team, phone numbers, her plan of care etc). Was then told by nurse Cheryl Dee the manager was new and they no longer use the purple binders. It didn't seem anyone was on the same page with what was supposed to be happening. After all of these issues the biggest disappointment was not one nurse reached out after my Mom passed away to offer condolences, see if we needed help with anything or explain what would happen to my Mom after we left the hospital. Absolutely terrible service lacking kindness and compassion. I strongly advise you to stay away from Vitas hospital hospice care. Nothing more than a money grab. My mother became a Vitas patient in October, her team where Jamie her SW, Javier & James her RN's and Dinora her HHA. I must say the entire team were always communicative, professional and considerate of my mother's feelings during their visits. I have shared with the supervisors how much I appreciate the service this team provided. It's hard to believe my mother is the only patient that received this kind treatment from this particular team the work they do is not easy and requires a certain degree of patience and dedication. Because of their professionalism, I think some type of appreciation should be given to exceptional employees who represent their company in a positive manner. My mother has since moved to San Bernardino county with my sister, but still receives services from Vitas. I can only hope mom's new team can duplicate the exceptional care she received in Riverside county. Ms. D read more

I can't thank Ojin and his team of amazing nurses for caring for my mom the last few months. They carried my mom as well as my family through the hardest days of our lives. They laughed and cried with us and guided us through every step in this very hard process. They treated my mom with so much compassion and I truly feel they gave her the care that they would give their own mother. They have so many very special nurses. Lanea, Natalie, Zach, Diana, Jennifer, Jessica, Don, Maria...I know I'm forgetting some and I apologize but we really loved them all and were so grateful for them. read more

I am writing this review while my mother is still on hospice with the Vitas. I highly recommend them for you or their loved one if hospice is what is needed. The company strives to meet the needs of each individual patient and family member. Anytime I need any supplies. They are here within 24 hours. They respond to phone calls very fast and get me the answers that I need. Ogen is my mother's nurse and he is fabulous. He's very compassionate and very understanding. He answers all of my questions and way that I can understand and then gives me a hug when he sees. I need one. Alma is my mother's bath aid and she is amazing. I work at a local hospital and she would be a valuable asset to us but I know she is so happy doing what she's doing with the home hospice. She is so loving and compassionate Dr.Mikhail is our home hospice doctor and I can't say enough good things about him. I have worked with him for years and he was my first choice when considering a hospice doctor. He's very very personable and very compassionate. read more

We loved RN Ogin. He has became part of the Schoonover family. His visits aren't rushed and he makes sure he takes his time to assess and care for Jack and Ruth. He is very thorough with his work. Very informative and helpful for any questions we have. We always look forward to his visit. He just brings this positive energy and attitude that we all get so excited about. My experience with the VITAS team was absolutely the best in one of the worst times possible in my life! Afiora, Ann and Javier were very supportive and gave my friend excellent care in his very last days. I will never forget the compassion they exemplified during their visits. Vitas came to the hospital when my mom was very ill With kidney failure. They took over care with my consent. The last day my my was alive Vitas never came to the hospital that particular day. We asked the nurse to call for a pastor because we knew she was going to pass that night. Vitas never called us back. My mom passed and they never called us. No sorry for your loss, no , you need grief counseling, no follow up of any kind. It's really all about money for these business. No sympathy, just pay them and move to the next sick person. Dinora CHHA has been a breath of fresh air. She is amazing at the way she cares for our mother. I cannot express the balance of professionalism and empathy she brings into her work. Our mom can be a handful and leary of strangers, due to memory issues but her demeanor puts her at ease. She cares for our mother like one would for their own family. Blanca and Jackie are the most caring individuals my mom has had the pleasure of working with. The services that she receives from these two individuals are excellent. Blanca and Jackie are friendly and ensure that my mother is properly informed about her health and care. I would have no reason not to recommend this duo to family and friends. These two people are a Godsend. They are very genuine and truly care about their patients. They always take the time to explain things to my mother in terms that she can understand. They are diligent in making sure her health is the best it can be. Blanca and Jackie are extremely kind, compassionate, brilliant and great communicators. She does not rush when she comes to the house. She is not in and out, she actually listens to the needs of what my mother needs. Blanca and Jackie are great people. These individuals are very knowledgeable, sensitive and informative. I immediately felt at ease and confident in receiving care. These two get it. They provide excellent treatment, and the ability to connect with my mother as a person; you know where you stand immediately and what the next steps look like. Blanca and Jackie are incredible. Not only has she taken great care of my mother's health, but they also care for my mother as a person. It's rare to find great people that combine such personal touches and care for a patient as a person with outstanding quality of medical care. I would highly recommend this duo! May 11, 2O22 almost one year Our Daughter, Mother of 3-Sons and Sister was in hospice care with VITAS Healthcare. Our Daughter was placed in HOME June 21, 2021 at Rancho Mesa Care Center 9333 La Mesa Dr. Alta Loma, CA. 91701. She passed away the evening of June 25, 2O21 at 1O:OO pm alone by Herself... No Family Member could be by Her side. We were forced to leave at 8:OO pm by Rancho Mesa June 25, 2O21 My Daughter had no VITAS nurse from 4:OO pm until her death On June 25, 2O22. She was assigned a 24-Hour TRIAGE Nurse by VITAS that day June 25 at 8:00 am with NO SHOW NURSE at 4:OO pm. At VITAS WE PROVIDE HOSPICE CARE WHEREVER OUR PATIENTS CALL HOME!!! NOT A GOOD MEMORY. Vitas cared for my mom years ago. When I needed hospice care for my dad the choice was obvious-VITAS. Their service providers are so responsive and caring. Shout out to Yosua, who helps with showers and whose personality is so vivacious! Nurse Don is a very knowledgeable nurse as is Nurse Charlisa. Both keep me informed after each visit. Would not recommend. They use a rotation of nurses, so there is no consistency, often contributing to a lack of communication.

We absolutely appreciate our team at Vitas - Yosua & Florance. Yosua, our bather is very gental and delicate with my mother. He always leaves her looking great and is so helpful. This is a terribly incompetent company. Before leaving the leaving the hospital we were promised all the equipment, including oxygen, would be at my Grandma's assisted living facility before she was discharged. It was not. We waited for over several hours (and had to make multiple phone calls) for everything-including oxygen-to be delivered. There was a massive lack of communication between the hospice staff and the assisted living facility staff. Orders for medication changes and oxygen increases were not given to the facility staff in a timely manner (sometimes not at all) and our family had to constantly follow up on everything. The hospice doctor sent my grandmother to the hospital for emergency surgery for a broken hip during the Covid-19 pandemic. She had told facility staff she wasn't in pain, she could still stand and walk. The Dr. said he was positive there was a fracture and evidence of an older break. The hospital determined there was not fracture or break. I don't believe the doctor actually reviewed the X-rays himself. Upon switching hospices my mom received a phone call from the Chaplin offering his condolences for my grandmother's death-except she's still alive! He didn't bother to read the paperwork showing she was discharged, not deceased, before making the call. My grandmother liked her nurse, and that's the only positive thing I have to say about this company. read more

Run from this place ! My father was with them for about 2 weeks, Danya the "social worker" did not help my family at all, she lacked communication and gave us the run around. I called every other day to get updates on placement into a facility. When i finally expressed frustration to her and the importance of placement she simply responded with " your dad is your responsibility not ours" I know hes my responsibility BUT this is why i looked into hospice because they are supposed to help you with anything Right !!!? Including finding a facility! Thats their job. She just lacked everything including compassion. A nurse came a week ago and she also was the worst at communicating she stopped by hours after her "scheduled visit" and flat out said " your dad feels this way because hes on his last days" asked if we had any questions and immediately left. I mean just everyone within this company lacks compassion. My father is still very much alive and independent. Just needs to be admitted into a facility because he needs care 24/7 and declining due to stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Today my dad is being transferred to another company and they agreed that this whole experience was unacceptable and they guaranteed that it will not take 2 weeks to find a facility. If you are referred to this place please request another one. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. read more

My family is very grateful for the amazing support of the vitas team during my grandfathers passing. They were kind helpful and professional during a very hard time. They were like a band of angels that came together to help my family with their time energy and communication. Where do I begin... My uncle was placed on GIP level of care at Riverside Community Hospital. Our family is very familiar with the hospice philosophy and all that it comes with it. Our Vitas Nurse was Maria. The most Uncompassionate nurse I have ever met. She did not provide education or time for my family to process anything. She wanted to rush his death. She said she was down the hall for support.. Nope.. no where to be be found. We call the "24 hour" line, after waiting 15 min, spoke to on call nurse arianna, who again was uninformative. Said we would receive a call back.. Still waiting for a call back. Maria later showed up to the room and basically said they were going to " Terminally extubate him now" NO empathy! Extremely rude, then tried to blame my family for understanding incorrectly, took no responsibility. Vitas nurse Maria has no compassion! What was the rush? His body was shutting down. We knew this.. we just wanted time for him to be comfortable and pass peacefully surrounded by family. They make promises they don't keep, for example.. " we are going to move him to a suite with a couch and he can pass peacefully with family." NEVER HAPPENED! Vitas are bullies and take on way too many patient than they can to provide proper care, education, and support to. My uncle passed this morning comfortably because of the floor nurses at the hospital. And yes, again with Vitas, no where to be found! If you love your family, please find another company. Save yourself the heartbreak that Vitas will add to an already stressful situation. I have reviewed other reviews where their response was.. "That's not our standard... blah blah blah" obviously it is because it continues to happen to family on a daily. I honestly will verbalize my concerns to the state as well as wait for the state survey that gets sent to the families of patients that pass. Zero stars! read more

This business only cares about numbers and saving money. They are stingy with supplies for your loved one. They overwork their nurses to the point that they rush through visit. The office has a toxic culture and the medical director doesn't even know what a hospice diagnosis is. read more

They signed my dad up real fast. Of course, they get paid by Medicare. Lots of talk, little action. A few home health aids and nurses were great. Some didn't want to be bothered with my dad's needs. Expect long waits, dad was having terminal agitation, took 9 hrs for a nurse to respond. Only after I had to complain to management that something happened. Expect to be disappointed, stressed and left out in the cold is our experience. I'm sure there are better Hospice companies out there. We had great experience 9 years ago with them for my father in law. But today, I regret calling them for help with my father. read more

I spent two weeks with the wonderful staff of Vitas for the hospice care of my mother as she passed away recently. Every person, from the case manager to the nurses, treated her with the respect and dignity she deserved. I asked that she experience no pain, anxiety or fear, and they honored that request faithfully. My family and I also received emotional support and caring throughout the incredibly difficult process.
