It's a typical neighborhood supermarket. They sell food and household stuff. Sometimes expensive sometimes cheap. Usually good, occasionally mediocre. Staff are usually nice, sometimes make you upset. Prices are usually right, occasionally marked wrong. Its cold in the summer and cold in the winter. The posted prices are wrong on about 2/3rds of the items. At first I thought it was an accident, but it's obviously planned. Should be investigated. Sunday 8:25am, store not opened. Internet says open at 8:00 as the other 11 people waiting probably thought. Guy comes 8:30 to open. I asked is opening 8 or 8:30. Said "open now". Repeated question, same answer. Inside I asked a cashier - answer "I don't know". I need to know if I ever go there again early in the day, but doesn't matter now because I'm not going back after over a decade of going and thousands of dollars. Vitelio's Marketplace is local supermarket and not that crowded. The decor is new, clean and neat. The average price is a little higher than Trader Joe's but still under reasonable range. There is a great variety with all products line up especially beer, diary and cereals. The prepared food looks delicious but didn't have a chance to try this time. Rudest customer service! Just went in to return a spoiled assortment of fruit for $5.70 that I bought Sunday August 11th at Vitelio's on Yellowstone Blvd. The fruit had an expiration of 8/17. It was rancid and stunk! Went to ask for a credit by the useless tool standing by the register and he asks if I have the receipt which I did not have although the label clearly stayed the supermarket. He would not give me back my money! He gave me a "so called" store credit on a post it note! Will be reporting this too the board of health as well as they are notorious for selling spoiled food. read more

I have been shopping here for years so i decided to finally review my experiences. They recently renovated the store and made it a very pleasant place to shop. The produce is right at the entrance and is spread out so you can take an overview and located what you want. The Deli counter is average but service is good. They follow directions when slicing the cheeses and meat which is a pleasant surprise since some places do not. The butcher department is well lit and nicely stocked. I noticed the beer selection has grown and many varieties are cold The store is conveniently located between my office and home so I will continue to shop here for the last minute things I need. read more

This place is good for raw meats, vegetables and fruits. However, avoid the deli case at all costs! I couldn't believe how bad it was until I had ordered their curry chicken salad, their antipasti and pasta salad. Curry chicken salad: watch out for the bones! I was stunned to eat a few bites when I found part of a drumstick and a thin, needle-like bone from another part of the chicken. This was insult to injury, as the salad was tasteless and didn't taste of curry AT ALL. It also made me nauseous and I had to rinse my mouth out with Listerine to get rid of the taste. I returned it immediately and the clerk didn't seem surprised that I was so upset (I was probably the latest in a long line of complainers). Pasta salad: I ordered this a few months ago and within a hour of eating it I had to use the bathroom. Badly. It so upset my stomach. This was before the curry chicken incident so I didn't return it, thinking it could have been something else. Nope. I'm now convinced it was the salad Antipasti: I didn't get sick from this but the mushrooms were so drenched in vinegar it was barely edible. I could only eat this in small doses. It was so sour that it made my lips pucker - like Donald Trump at his most obnoxious. It's clear that the person making the salads HAS NO IDEA what he/she is doing, or doesn't care. This is no new found feeling as all staffers are friendly and helpful, more so than most all retail stores irrespective of the wares they offer. The sealed food options available throughout the store offer quality choices for most any ethnic derivation. For easy proof of the delectable options, walk straight upon entrances toward the deli, just past the produce department, nowhere else can you find such quality and unique options at such low prices. So you have a question about a cut of meat? Max is the main player behind the metal double doors yet its no admittance so catch him when he's on the floor. Questions one might have about anything from wax paper to caviar are easily remedied, as everyone is highly familiar with their products, not to mention there appears to be virtually no employee turnover. Ownership has taken a smart and analytical approach to item selections, floor layout, all new refrigerators, lighting, misting and so much more. Very expensive store. Cashier folks are often talking to each other/not paying attention. I gave a $20 bill to the lady who took it without looking, put it in the register, and then claim she forgot what I gave her but insisted it was a ten dollar bill. I had to sternly tell her I gave a $20 bill and if she didn't believe me, then to check the cameras. She relented. All in all, not a good experience. read more

Before I knew about this market, I used to shop at the now shuttered Key Food on Yellowstone closer to Queens Boulevard. I'm glad I found this market bc it's much cleaner and brighter than the other market. Even though the store's name is Vitelio's, I was still able to use my Key Food club card and not have to sign up for another card. The store may be a bit small so item placement may be a bit tricky. For example, there's no chip aisle, so one time I was searching for some Pringles and couldn't find it. I feel like I often find myself searching for something. But eventually I'll find it or just give up...lol I usually come here to get sale items. read more

The meat department is questionable and more than once when I got home the food was passed the expired date. Everything is overpriced. I only go when there's no time to drive to the Stop and Shop. Overpriced, dishonest pricing, poor management and customer service. Be sure you follow their sale signs to the letter because they like to organize their shelves in a way that mingles non-sale overpriced items with their on sale brand items. For example, Gildens yellow mustard was on sale and they would place it next to their generic brand mustard that has very similar packaging, label design, and overpriced. If you didn't look closely you might end up taking the wrong item thinking it is on sale. This goes for any items in this store. Also they do not put price tags on any of their products or the sign with the price is missing, so you are left guessing most of the time. Very dishonest management and even poorer customer service. Good for necessities, but I would recommend you shop somewhere else. read more

Vitelio's is going dowhill, and maybe some of that is because of the pandemic, but they're also handling it worse than other supermarkets. They cut their hours several times. They seem to have the most limited hours of any supermarket in the area, forcing a lot of people to visit at the same time. They didn't bother updating their hours on their website or on Yelp. A lot of their items are expired. I hadn't seen a single expired item in the past, and I saw maybe 5-10 just today. I'm not seeing that at other supermarkets. If they're going to reduce their hours so they have more time to restock, they could at least clear out products that expired weeks ago. They're overcharging more frequently now, and by larger amounts. By overcharging, I mean that they post one price on the shelf and charge you a higher price at the register. Again, not seeing this at other places. They're out of stock on a lot of items--definitely more than other supermarkets. Broken machines and poor customer service. I had been using Google Pay for over a year with no problems. Today, one of their payment machines stopped working. The manager was completely unhelpful. First, she claimed to not know anything about Google Pay. Then she claimed they never supported Google Pay, which is clearly false. When I suggested trying a different machine, she refused, saying that it wouldn't work either, which is a lie, since by her own admission seconds earlier she doesn't know anything. I suggested that I could return in a few minutes with a credit card, and she refused as well, saying that they would be closed in a few minutes (and she obviously didn't want to stay open even a minute past their new closing time). Overall, she acted like she didn't want to take responsibility for the issue and couldn't be bothered to help in the least. Many stores don't accept mobile payments, so the broken machine isn't as much of a problem as the total lack of customer service skills. I'm sure many grocery and similar stores are having a tougher time now, but the reality is that Vitelio's is the worst one in the area at the moment. read more

Update: Really poorly managed store. Still overcharging on many items. Also, very often, they'll stock an item and then will be out of it for weeks. Now during the CV pandemic, they seem more challenged to keep shelves stocked, much more than the other area supermarkets. Produce section is subpar. I've been coming to this store when it was a King Kullen, then C-Town, then Country Markets and now Vitelio's. I have to say it's a big step up from the previous franchises. Finally these folks had the idea to remodel the place first of all (which got rid of the smell) and start bringing in a much wider range of products. The stores before were stuck in the 1960's and 70's. Now customers want more of a "Whole Foods" approach. What was gourmet or specialty then is now standard. That being said Vitelio's is making a good step in the right direction. I'm seeing more Mediterranean, Asian, Spanish & Eastern European foods in addition to better produce. GREAT! Now do me a favor. Stop overcharging for these items. Dang, you're sometimes $1-3 more than other stores. How do I know this? Because I still go to Astoria where Krinos products, e.g. are $1.50 or more cheaper. I also rather go to Fairway in Red Hook or Natural on Austin Street for the same reasons. Also it would be great if you supported local farmers from LI and upstate NY. Produce tends to be fresher that way (less time from farm to table). Last tip: Visit Zabar's on the UWS in Manhattan if you want to see an example of a killer cheese section. read more

The absolute worst place in terms of customer service, that doesn't make up for paying up for their products. I mean my goodness, not a pleasant face in the entire joint. Heaven forbid you get a sale item, the cashier will give you a look of death and then have to call a manager to "confirm" said sale price and then for the manager to say "we'll honor it". Well, thank you sir, how very kind of you to honor a sale price that the store has advertised! Awful Also, the market states it closes at 10p on weekdays. So can someone perhaps explain to me why the front door was locked at 9:27p with customers inside? This place is a joke. If I'm going to pay out my behind for groceries, I'll at least go to Trader Joe's where the experience is much more pleasant. I have been coming here occasionally with my family since it was Key Food and I'm glad it still remains as one of my neighborhood supermarkets, other than the Trader Joe's nearby. There's a wide selection of produce, dairy, cereals, chips, snacks, ice creams, premade salads and sushi, Starbucks coffees, and even a meal's worth of carbs of mochi. I like coming here to see what's new and worth buying for my next meal or dessert. However I wish the prices of some products were shown. For example the Starbucks drinks and organic seaweeds did not have prices on them. read more

This is the supermarket closest to my apartment. It was renovated recently and the facade and part of the inside were spruced up. It's nice and bright and a good neighborhood market. I like this place a lot because it is so convenient, and also because I enjoy their wide variety of products. I feel like if I am looking for something, most likely I can find it at Vitelio's. Best part is I think the staff is very nice, and I often have conversations with them. Makes grocery shopping better than just self-checkout and get on with my day. The employees are also very helpful with finding what I am looking for, and maintaining the bottle machine when asking for assistance. Great place! read more

The employees are beyond rude every time I go there, the store is disorganized and dirty, they frequently do not have items that are in the weekly circular, and EVERY time I shop there I am charged incorrectly for something I have purchased. I don't know if their technology/inventory systems are just out of date but its annoying! Perhaps they don't realize that without customers, their antiquated store would be out of business. Unless it is absolutely urgent I refuse to shop here (and its less than a block from my house). There are good and bad things about Vitelio's Marketplace. The produce section has never looked better; however, the cashier staff is normally lackluster. Rude, unfriendly and generally love to put your fruit at the bottom under the canned goods. Don't let them pack your bags and always check your receipt for errors. Mostly they love to talk to each other and sometimes ring up a customer... IF they HAVE to. It's a sad state of affairs. The speed of the leader is the speed of the followers I'm afraid and the leadership of this store just doesn't seem to care. Love the revamped c-town (it'll always be that to me). They stock cool new snacks, drinks, craft beers, local yogurts and they make pretty good hot dishes. 10/10 they got rid of the bugs that were constantly around the produce in the old store.
