On our way back from New York, we picked up our car and wanted one last quick, authentic food experience before heading home. I had been saying for days that I was craving a good Italian deli sandwich, and my partner came across Vito's & Son Italian Deli in Hoboken. Well, it does not get much more authentic than this. What an experience. You know how some Italian restaurants say they make you feel like family? At Vito's, we actually felt it the moment we walked in. The welcome was warm, genuine, and immediate -- the kind of hospitality that cannot be faked. As we browsed the extensive deli menu, I had to ask what "mutz" meant. I am from Chicago, where we usually say "mozz," so this was my first time seeing it written in what I can only call New Jersey-ian. Without hesitation, they gave us a sample of their fresh, in-house-made mozzarella, and it was absolute perfection -- soft, fresh, creamy, and exactly what fresh mozzarella should be. We took several subs to go, and every single one was delicious. I had The Vito's, which was incredibly satisfying -- packed with that classic Italian deli flavor and everything I had been craving in a sub, and then some. My partner had The Sophia Loren, which was also full of flavor and definitely worth ordering again. My mom had what I ordered as a custom Caprese sandwich since I could not find it on the extensive menu -- mutz, fresh basil, tomato, balsamic vinaigrette, and herbs. It was so fresh, simple, and delicious. We also tried the arancini. The traditional one brought back memories of what used to be some of the best arancini in Chicago at Monastero's, which sadly is no longer around. That is not a comparison I make lightly. The cheese arancini was also wonderful, and the sauce was divine. Personal preference: I could have used just a touch more salt in the sauce, but the flavor was still excellent. Of course, we could not leave without dessert. The cannoli had the perfect balance of softness and crunch, and the filling was delicious. And naturally, we had to take home a pound of that fresh mutz. When we got home, we turned the leftovers into the perfect little Italian deli dinner. We thinly sliced the remaining halves of the subs, added fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette, and wine. It became a charcuterie-style dinner that felt like the perfect ending to the trip. Taking a detour through Hoboken was absolutely worth it. Some Italian restaurants claim to treat you like family, but at Vito's & Son, we truly felt it. We are already planning another stop on our next trip because we still need to try the homemade freezer dishes -- and, of course, the homemade tiramisu. Ahhhhh I really wanted to like this place. Saw some good reviews about there Taylor ham egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. I placed my order and was waiting some time. They told me it wouldn't be that long and I wasn't in a rush so I said no problem. Now another 15 minutes go by and people that came in way after me were getting orders. They were all very nice but they either forgot my order or messed up the first one and had to make it again. That would have been fine but they were acting clueless and after some time that gets annoying. I thought the food would make up for the service but it was just ok. The Taylor ham egg and cheese was not cooked enough and was super thick. Bread wasn't good. The Vitos omelette breakfast sammy was also bad. The bread tasted burnt but was also oily and mushy. Real weird combo. I would maybe eat there again but certainly won't go out of my way. Waited over half hour for 2 sandwiches that were not good. Last summer, a friend and I came across Vito's. We were craving a good hero/cold cut and checked out some of the reviews and saw that they were good, so went inside. We ordered turkey heroes and they were EXCEPTIONAL. Now I know some may think that it isn't hard to make or find a good turkey cold cut, but trust me, it IS, and I've had many bad turkey cold cuts. It's quite disappointing. What really makes a bad turkey cold cut bad, is, well, the turkey lol. You can taste when it isn't quality turkey, when it's processed, etc. It just doesn't taste the same. When tasting these turkey cold cuts from Vito's, the bread was amazing, the turkey was amazing, it was fresh and filling! It was also good service. The staff took our sandwich orders and nailed them! I went back last week for another turkey cold cut and it was also more than exceptional. So simple, yet exceptional. Thank you for quality heroes, Vito's. Huge sandwich list with lots of excellent cold cut options. We were drawn in by the hot roast beef, mozzarella, gravy sandwich. Staff was charming and had our sandwich ready quickly. It was $15 for a solid foot plus sandwich. Sufficiently stuffed and the kindly accommodated our request to cut it in thirds. It was a messy delight. The mutz is as good as losurdo's but not as good as Lisa's, Fiore's, and Biancanomo. The pesto was $1 extra and I didn't even notice it, so it wasn't worth it. The sandwich is about 10 inches and less than half as stuffed as a Biancanamo sub. Stopped here on our way out of NYC. Had seen the place featured online and on TV and wanted to stop in and get lunch on our way out of the city. This is located on a nice recently updated street with diagonal parking and large sidewalks. The inside of the deli is pretty small and could be overwhelming if you're from out of the area. I would say if possible familiarize yourself with the menu so you don't stand looking at the menu boards. Staff was friendly enough - not overly pushy they could smell we were from out of town. But nice enough. There was so much stuff I wanted to try and buy - they have premise pastas and sauces you can buy which I should have gotten, as well as meatballs and salads, cutlets etc etc. Ended up getting the Smokey hero which has two types of mutz (mozzarella) pesto spread and tomato. This was really good - would've liked to have more spread though. Would come here every time we are in the area and try something new. Also brought some mozzarella back to have this week. First and foremost, my Cuban was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Parking is an issue but if you're a local you either know how to get around or live close enough to walk. Not that they need more business but anyone coming in from out of town should be aware that it's worth the wait and you're lucky if you get parking. The place is legitimate. Italian everything. My Italian cousin who critiques every place no matter - she would validate this place. I feel like the man who helped us ...is a lifer. Part of the experience with no offense given. I appreciate it - especially when I'm not too sure about what to order. I don't like feeling rushed but if I could go back I might take more time to order & get some side items. *Catering review* I recently ordered two platters for catering and had a great experience! Vito's uses a site called EZCater, which is basically like a Seamless but for catering. The process was very easy. I picked what I wanted, chose a pick-up time (you can also opt for delivery), and paid ahead of time. When I got to Vito's, my order was ready and waiting. I ordered a platter of penne vodka and chicken parm, each serving 8-10 people. The penne was a bit weird because they had different sized penne mixed together, but still delicious nonetheless. Chicken parm wasn't the best chicken parm I've had but it was still pretty good. They didn't skimp on the mutz, which I LOVED! They also give you some bread to go with the food, and by some I mean at least an entire loaf, already cut up for your convenience. Overall, it was a great experience. Prices are very reasonable. In fact, they were $15-$20 cheaper than other comparable places in Hoboken. read more

We told them we were from Delaware and begged them to open a deli in our small state. First time ever trying Vito's and WOW.. i can see why it's so packed! While coming in they had a bunch of Italian pasta, sauce and cookies throughout the store. As well as homemade sauce that they made! After waiting on the line for a bit, a really nice man up front took care of me and recommended a sandwich for me! I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich and Buffalo chicken pasta salad. The pasta salad was SO GOOD! I am not a Buffalo chicken fan but this pasta is some other shit!! I have to agree with Gabby who left the recent one star review. The woman who manages the counter can be difficult. The last time I ordered online she called me to discuss a couple of toppings for my sandwich and on top of the $3.50 for extra meat wanted to squeeze me for the arugula, glaze and fig spread. After a verbal tussle I ended up just canceling the entire order. And be careful with any extras. The price for a small container of olives can vary anywhere from $4.00 to $9.00! I decided to try again. My son loves the Sigma. I actually called after ordering to head off any complications. The sandwiches arrived on time, perfect to order, tasty and with no hassle. When I tell you I believe I just ate the best sandwich I've tried in Hoboken, I mean it. I got the sigma sub, which is salalito turkey, suppressata, hot cappi, mutz, hot peppers, roasted red peppers, and I substituted the Italian dressing for mayo, oil, vinegar. Roast beef- (Fiore's) has more flavor 2. Mozz- (Vito's) softer / feels fresher although no smoked mozz option. 3. Delivery- (Vito's) 4. Accepts cards- (Vito's) 5. Availability- (Vito's) not just Thursdays / Saturdays for roast beef. 6. Brown gravy is where I think it splits. Vito's is thicker, like a velvety brown gravy. Really hides the fact that the roast beef is essentially flavorless. But Fiore's is a loose like au ju with chunks of meat and TONS of garlic. Neither sauce would go well on the others sandwich, IMO. So this really determines my mood on who to order from. **pro tip: I suggest to get either with the gravy on the side. 7. Roasted red peppers- (Fiore's) since they're house made and full of garlic not just popped out of a jar. 8. Bread- Fiore's has more choices either a hero or Keizer, but Vito's has softer heros and they aren't as thin. So Vito's wins for mozz, which is hard for my to admit but the facts are the facts. They also have convenience on their side if you don't have cash or need delivery. The food always arrive hot (am I'm in Weehawken) portions are great. It's less messy overall -if that matters to someone. Happy to have been able to order from here a few times and see it's consistency.
