Definitely some of the best seafood we've had so far around Nags Head. Great drinks! The Castaway and Key Lime Crush were both great. The Steamed Combo was a surprising amount of food and great for a couple to share. Add some of the steamed vegetables for the perfect meal. Extra hungry? The coconut shrimp appetizer didn't disappoint. Finally, I've read some reviews about the service. It was top notch! The only people I saw upset were clearly from out of town and had unreasonable expectations. "30 minute wait for a party of 7??" Yes, our party of 4 is likely going to sit down before you. This place was excellent across the board! Waited about 20 minutes for a group of 6. We sat upstairs and it wasn't too crowded or loud. Our group ordered the Seafood Eggs rolls for an appetizer, they were excellent and tasted great. (Alittle pricey for only two but understandable). For the entrees, we got Thai shrimp tacos, fish and chips, and crab cake sandwich. They were all excellent and so full of flavor. The waiter was excellent and super accommodating. Excellent food and great service. This is a very casual restaurant which is exactly what I would expect for a restaurant just a block from the beach. While the sunset views are blocked by Jockeys Ridge across the street, they do have a nice covered deck up top with nice views. They also have several bars and the main level dining room. The food was excellent and whether broiled or fried, nothing was greasy. Dare I say it, I think Mulligan's hush puppies are better than another restaurant nearby that claims theirs are famous. The crab cakes, shrimp and flounder were delicious and perfectly cooked. Service was top notch. Since we had a late lunch that afternoon, we did not get an appetizer or a dessert but I do want to return and I will be sure to save room next time. read more

We love this place so much we came back a second time in 6 days. From crab cake dinners, mahi mahi bites. Burgers topped with crabmeat - it's all great. We also went to more expensive restaurants this week and this year, hands down, these are THE BEST crab cakes. My dad ranks them wherever we go and y'all win! Staff are fast and attentive, and the vibe is beachy- laid back. Sorry we are leaving tomorrow. I would have liked one more visit! Maybe I'll return this fall! read more

This was a good spot to try on day 1 at the Outer Banks. We were lucky to have Katelin as our waitress. She's very sweet and helpful. She even gave me some hushpuppies as a birthday treat (since I don't like cheesecake). We both had different versions of a burger. Unfortunately, we were a little famished, and when I remembered I forgot to take a picture, it was half gone and a lot messy. It was DELICIOUS though!! We ate at Mulligan's on a Thursday afternoon. We were seated immediately but after that the service was very slow. For a party of 6, our food took over an hour to come out, resulting in our "quick lunch" taking 1 hour and 45 minutes. Aside from the slow food service, everything else was fine. The food was delicious (albeit a little pricey- ie $1.00 charge for a side of ranch) and we especially liked the Thai chili tacos. read more

The buffalo shrimp was so freaken good (the only thing is there isn't a lot that comes with it so you might need 2 orders but worth)!! I also got the fish and chips with cod and that was also amazing! Our server was on it and was always there when we needed! 5/5 until tonight. Will never go back unless this is made right. But I have always treated the staff here with kindness respect and thanks. Even tonight I tipped extra after being treated poorly without explanation. I really don't understand what happened because it does seem odd that someone being served 1 drink per hour and ordering food and requesting waters gets told to leave without reason. The bartender tonight told me no more service out of nowhere. I apologized and ordered some tater tots and additional water after this. Prior to this I was served about 1 drink per hour and was actively requesting waters and ate food. After requesting my check to close out and left a 20% tip (personally, bad tip from me), I requested a water (3 requests for a water from 800 to 900p tonight after service refusal from bartender, it was more crowded but not slammed) and then asked a question about the bill after paying. I even apolgized for questioning the bill and was calm and polite, but was then told I was wrong for questioning things, and need to leave. I really don't get it. I wasn't over served. I received no complaints or warnings from the bartender or patrons. I was ordering food. I have been a customer here before and tip and treat the staff well (including a near 100% tip yesterday - Ben and Grace are elite!) Just the most wild thing is the same bartender who tried to pressure me into a double drink, then refuses service (I get it overall, but not in this situation) and ignores 3 requests for water before being told "you need to leave" after paying for and apologizing for asking a question about my bill. I was confused about the bill because this bartender did take a Miller Lite away because there was an order confusion as multiple bartenders working at one time. In my opinion, the bartender tonight was just in a bad mood, because I did not see anyone else at the bar or upstairs tables treated with the smiles and kindness I've been used to here. Just wild how a bartender says "do you want to make it double?" With your order, and then the next statement from them is "we are not serving you anymore". read more

My party was not impressed with mulligans. The ratings were very misleading because my party arrived and though we were seated quickly, the food that we ordered was barely seasoned and flavorless. We ordered a lb of crab and it came out and was only slightly warm, no flavor, and we had to season it ourselves with a container they brought to us. The steamed oysters we got were dry and needed a lot of fix ins to make it slightly enjoyable . The drinks were up to par, but the atmosphere was very dull although the servers were very nice. Snow crab legs looked like they got them from the bottom of the pot and were extremely overdone. Our server was nice. It was my sisters birthday and when we said that to her she huffed and puffed and was extremely annoyed that we had mentioned something about a birthday. Took her a while to come back after birthday was mentioned so we had to go up to her to get our check. We celebrated else where. "Great seafood, very dog friendly setting" Came here on a Sunday evening with a party of 6 humans and 2 dogs, since we read online that it was a dog friendly place. I called in advance, and they said to head up the stairs right away to the top if you have dogs. Setting outside was lovely-- semi-covered and east-facing, so no direct sun at dinner time, which was great. And very airy, which was also nice for a hot evening... we were quite comfortable. The staff were very welcoming of all of us, including petting the dogs and bringing them dog bowls of water. And the menu even had options for dogs (rice and meat), though we didn't order them. For me, I ordered the crab balls and the mahi fish tacos, and then got bread pudding for dessert. Crab balls came after 10 minutes, and maybe another 10-15 for the main dishes, but the waitress checked on us regularly to make sure we had water and were OK in general. The crab balls were DELICIOUS-- super tasty, and the remoulade was perfect. The fish tacos were absolutely scrumptious-- I loved the slaw on them too, and the fish were nice large pieces. And the bread pudding was also super yummy. Everyone at our table loved their food, with the one slight exception that someone who got shrimp & grits noted theirs was rather heavily salty. Overall, great setting, great service, great food. It's not cheap, but it's worth the expense. And SUPER dog friendly. Worth the visit! read more

Your typical bar and grille. I ordered the grilled seafood platter. The crab cakes is no Maryland crab cake that's for sure, but that's already a high bar. And while they're advertised as lump, it sure seemed like it wasn't. The white fish fillet was bland - fortunately, the platter comes with a house sauce, seafood sauce, and tartar sauce. The scallops, while sweet and good in flavor, in my wife's dish were nearly burned on bottom so check before proceeding to devour them. Mulligans has good food and service, and they are extremely dog friendly. Today we had the crab bisque and it was dynamite. Also Local raw oysters had lots of flavor. Broiled seafood platter was cooked perfectly. Delicious Cobb Salad. Shrimp and fish tacos were overcooked. Buffalo shrimp was cooked perfect and our favorite. Last year the shrimp and grits were our favorite. It was pretty busy, but the service was really good. Super friendly. read more

We came here specifically for the crushes because they are so delicious! They have a wide variety of different crushes that all sound amazing. The coconut lime crush is excellent and so is the key lime crush. The rooftop bar area is perfect for watching the sunset and enjoying nice weather. I have been a little rough on Mulligan's in the past, but we continue to go there for their fried seafood. It is reliably good. This time in town, we went for a Monday night half-off special that appears to be an off-season (November?) thing for 2024. That is hard to pass up and I expect we will hit them again while the deal lasts. I won't repeat all that was reported in previous reviews. Mulligan's has its hits and misses. Fried shrimp, oysters and flounder are consistently a hit. Beyond that, you have to decide for yourself. I have had Tuscan Rockfish that was so overly herbed as to be medicinal and also inedible. The "Best Burger on the Beach" is simply bad, with tough chewy bits. For a burger, go to Art's Place or even Jack Browns or McGraths. But for fried seafood place, this is among the best. On this visit, Ms T ordered a fried shrimp platter (no surprise). I tried the Thai shrimp tacos. Both plates were very good. They did a nice job on the Thai shrimp tacos, and I will certainly consider them again. Both of us took enough home for another good meal. I just wish that non-Mexican restaurants serving tacos would warm the tortillas. I just do not understand the serving of refrigerator-cold tortillas. Next time, I will ask if they can warm them. How hard can it be? If they only served fried seafood, they would get five stars. Some of the other things drag it down, but I will keep exploring while Ms T enjoys her shrimp. We won't stop going. Mulligan's is one of our favorite stops on every Obx trip. The tiki bar upstairs is always a fun and laid back spot to grab a drink, and maybe a crab pretzel or steamed snow crab. My wife's go-to drink here is the orange crush, which was super fresh and tasty. The staff here is always friendly and provides great service. There is plenty of parking in their lot...just beware that there can be a wait for a table during dinner as they tend to get very busy. read more

I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how pleasant my recent visit to Mulligan's was. Mulligan's has become a staple restaurant for my family when we come to the OBX, but I don't remember it being THAT good. Prices were extremely reasonable. The menu has a lot of variety. I was with a party of 4 and two of us got the crab bisque which had an abundance of lump crabmeat in it. They are not stingy. We got the crab pretzel to share- delicious, hefty chunks of crabmeat, did not disappoint. We also got calamari and buffalo shrimp. The calamari was light and flavorful. The buffalo shrimp were mildly spicy which was perfect for our taste- they were incredibly prepared and had us arguing over the last one! I got the snow crab legs which were perfectly steamed allowing for extremely satisfying meat pulls. Someone else got the crab cake sandwich which was a really good crab cake and the sauce that came with it was flavorful and amazing. Someone else got the greek salad with sautéed shrimp which was delightful. Someone else got the fried shrimp which was delicious- nice batter. I got a double orange creamsicle crush which was sweet and delicious, someone else got the key like crush which was sweet with coconut, not syrupy, and refreshing. Service was extremely quick, we were in and out within an hour, but there was no sense of being rushed. Our server was very kind and bubbly and made our experience even better! My husband and I make a point to visit Mulligan's Grille every time we're in the OBX. It's hands down our favorite spot in the area, mainly because the food is just that good. My go-to's are the Sesame & Peppered Seared Tuna and the Blackened Tuna Tostada, but we've tried a variety of appetizers, entrees, and platters over the years, and every dish has been memorable. Great portion sizes, bold flavors, and consistent quality. The service has always been excellent, and on our most recent visit, we brought our pup along. The staff treated him like royalty, which made the experience even better. Mulligan's is a must for us, and we always look forward to coming back. read more

We were advised they were unable to take reservations. We came in with a party of nine including two young children. The place was at about 60% capacity and you could see the empty tables everywhere. The less than pleasant hostess wouldn't even give a general idea on when we would be seated., After about a 20 minute wait they took us up to the second floor and sat us at the only uncovered section they had in the entire building. When my wife mentioned it's 60 degrees out and it wouldn't work the young children the main hostess and others began whispering to each other and got snarky. My wife inquired about the large party that walked in and sat themselves and the one girl said that they had a reservation. We mentioned again that they wouldn't let us make a reservation and the main hostess said "well that's the owners best friends". Thus ends 5 years of this being part of our family vacation. We went over to Tortugas Lie and even though they were packed their manager went above and beyond to accommodate us. I never leave negative reviews but this place did everything in their power to be rude and not accommodate us. I look forward to sharing my experience with others that frequent this establishment. read more
