Her husband is in charge of the packing and is so proud of it he regaled me with many a story of a satisfied customer after traveling home with treasures that didn't break. It was adorable. While it did take about 30 mins to wrap one glass to take home, which turned into 3 before I left (probably his tactic haha), I enjoyed listening to his stories and looking around the store. I wasn't trying to spend a ton anyways and am usually happy just browsing, so I just got a small ceramic cup that wasn't locked in anything. There was a booth on the first floor selling fine jewelry and tennis bracelets that were gorgeous but out of my price range. There were a ton of eclectic interesting things here, some kind of grimy and some in pristine condition--truly a one man's trash is another's treasure sort of place. Autrefois definitely did not share the crowded, dusty feel most antique shops I've been to -- I can't profess expertise in the area, but the store seemed pared down without being austere. The pieces were all wonderful, and I know that at least some were artfully restored, so well, in fact, that I even asked the owner about the great condition of most of the things, and she was happy to show me exactly where certain pieces were restored (she seemed to indicate that they are sent off for professional restoration). It's worth noting that I didn't see a piece that was obviously restored, and everything had a great patina. As I told her, if I had the money, I would be a frequent patron!

Just sold the place over Labor Day, and the furnishings helped me close the deal. They're the perfect combination of not-too-fancy but add-warmth that I like. Good for you - I did not. I was pretty hopeless. Who would you even think to bring something like to?? On a different day I went jewelry shopping (the kind of shopping where I get "ideas"...har har) and I went into this wonderful place. Brimming with silvergoods (more so than with jewels) I asked if they repaired candelabras. Of course, they say! Yay. So at 5:05 pm today I call them and ask what time they close. Oh, you close at 5? "Well if you think you can make it here in 10 minutes, come on over." That from one of the Parsons himself. What a nice guy! I was so pleased that he stayed later than closing time. Icing on the cake was "sure we can get this back to you this week." More to come when I get the returned good.... UPDATE Wow, it cost $100 to fix (almost as much as the darn thing is worth) but they did such a fantastic job on it I don't think it will ever break off again. You can hardly tell it was fixed. They had it back to me in a couple days, too. Great service!!!

Searched the internet for something close, then emailed 6 jewelers. David called me the following day. Still have not heard from anyone else. I emailed David the images, 3 weeks before Christmas '13, then went over to discuss the specifics in the shop. Describing something from memory that I lost 5 years ago, proved to be problematic. Farley asked all the right questions. I was so impressed. And they said they would have it done before Christmas. For the duration, I brought my boss and colleague in when they needed to purchase Christmas gifts- 5 mins after closing. We were welcomed with open arms, and we got to see some really special historic pieces the store has for sale. On the date they promised, I got the call. The product is impeccable. This ring has not come off my finger since that day. Firestone & Parson was there for me when I needed them. Professional, personable, understanding. You rarely, if ever, see true antiques else where. You usually see older furniture. Furniture without unique quality. The furniture here has the deep rich looking quality that is the sign of a true antique. Prices are high. Yet the prices seem to match the quality and the age of the item. However, they are not totally overpriced as some of the shops we have visited. You know the kind of place that gives you the impression that somehow being dressed in jeans and sneakers does not qualify you as a real shopper. You know the kind of place that seems to have everything priced in the thousands. There are some real hidden treasures here.
