I was really excited that I was able to get a same day appointment when I called in. I was interested in getting a digital perm and cut, which came out the way I wanted, I love it! Most of all it was reasonable priced, I shopped around and most places were at least $300+ for just the perm not including the cut. I love that my stylist showed how easy it was to style my new hairdo, hopefully I can do it on my own. To the reviewer who say this place is expensive..$55 for women's cut is really not bad at all. Hiromi is very nice. She has good English and I felt comfortable describing to her exactly what I wanted done with my hair. She gave good feedback and showed me the back of my hair to make sure it's what I wanted before finishing up. She washes her own hair so she's working on you the entire time, versus some nicer salons you end up being with the assistant half the time and still pay the $$$. What I wanted was not difficult (trim, layers touch up). So its hard to mess up, but I can tell Hiromi knows what she's doing (making sure the cuts on both side on the same length. Sounds obvious But Aveda Blu in Arcadia failed to do this and I ended up with different length hairs on each side...). Call to make an appointment before you come. Vivi is Japanese owned, catered to mostly Japanese clients. I'm not Japanese but I started coming to Vivi based on a Japanese friend's recommendation. The hostess is very professional, sweet, and accommodating. My stylist Aya is skillful and ultra detailed oriented. She keeps a log for every client. It's like visiting the doctors. They know exactly when were you here last and what did you have done. My hair has it's own biography, who knew? I've had extensions put on by her and I also come here regularly for coloring. They use braiding technique extensions. No messy glue and not damaging to hair. Super easy and painfree to keep and to take off. Here's a story I must tell... I came in once to do my color as usual but only on the root this time. She suggested a toner process after the coloring to match the root better with the rest of my hair. I was sold and it turned out better than great. So the bill came out a little higher because of the extra process, not a problem. I was completely satisfied. Time has passed, and it's time for a dye job again. So I came back to Aya, the minute I sat down she apologetically informed me that she had charge me $40 too much last time. She had wrote on her log and I got to use it this time. I was touched by her honesty. Vivi is not fancy but they keep it very clean and comfortable. I'm a fan. read more

I have no problem with her asking me lots of questions, as a matter of fact she did a good job on doing my hair exactly the way I wanted. HOWEVER, she does a poor job in terms of customer service - I stopped going because she treated me as if I was cheap. I had been going to Hiromi for expensive perms and tipped her generously. Then I had my hair cut short and felt the bang was a bit too long, I returned one week later and asked her to trim it a little shorter. I called in advance but what she did was that she totally ignored me and let me sit there for 40 minutes just to wait, until her assistant had to announce my presence while all the time I was there staring at her and puzzled on how possibly could she not notice me. She came up to me and worked on my bang for 20 seconds and let go of me. For all the generous tips before and that was the treatment I received. I feel sorry for her that she lost a loyal and generous customer like myself, and nope, not going back again. read more

Hiromi had been cutting my hair for the past five years, but I recently had to switch to another salon. Ever since she brought in new apprentices, she's been very distracted while cutting my hair. The last two times I've had my hair cut, at $55 a pop, she's forgotten to do my face-framing layers in the front. I wound up with bangs, one layer at the end of my chin, and then the rest of my hair was shoulder length. She curled my hair after cutting it so I didn't notice the poor layering job until I styled my hair the next day. What a letdown. She really used to be the best! She's been cutting hair for more than 30 years, but you'd never know because she's too busy chatting or instructing her apprentices to pay attention to the hair she's working on. I love the Hollows shampoo they use but it's so expensive! The bottle of frizz serum was the size of a shot glass and it cost $45+ tax. Yikes! The hair washers do an awesome job, though. You get a long scalp massage in the process and they give you warm towels for your neck. Overall, I would suggest this place for a wash and style on special occasions, but get your hair trimmed elsewhere. read more

All the stylists here are super cheerful and welcome you when you come in. My stylist here, Nao, always does an amazing job on my hair. When she washes my hair it's almost like receiving a head massage. I could totally fall asleep if it was a longer wash. She always pays a great amount of detail with my hair, cutting it at just the right length and scrutinizing along the way to make sure there aren't any stray strands of hair poking out. After the cut she'll rinse your hair and throw a warm towel under your neck to keep you from getting cold while she applies and massages in conditioner. Something so small makes such a huge difference! It is a bit expensive, around $40 each time, but I'll gladly pay for such good service. read more

I've been coming to Vivi Hair for over 10 years. The reason I come here is for its excellent customer service, their attention to detail, and ensuring that the customer is satisfied with the results. I come here every 3 months to have my hair either cut, trimmed or to get a color touch-up. All the staff are extremely personable. I would also like to say that they know how to handle Asian hair. Not to say other stylists don't know how to work with it. I would say I prefer someone who has experience cutting Asian hair is important to me. I tried out Vivi hair back in June when I had long hair and came in for a cut and air wave perm. My decision to try them out was based on them being in business in the same location for quite some time and a lot of friends recommending them to me. These are good signs that I was going to the right place. My stylist was Hiromi and she was both friendly and very professional. She did a great job on my cut and the perm and spent her time in making sure I liked it. My perm came out just how I had envisioned it. Sadly, my hair type is super straight and fine, so it straighten out in a few months, but it was worth the money spent. This salon uses state of the art equipment and I didn't feel that my hair was damaged or too chemically processed. The perm process was as comfortable as it gets and the staff here are all extremely nice. My second visit was for hair cut and color. I had Hiromi again as my stylist. This time I opted for something more drastic and cut my almost waist length hair to just below my ears. I brought in a reference photo and Hiromi cut my hair as close to the model in the photo as possible! I was impressed! I got so many compliments on my short hair that it justified my decision to cut it so short. I lightened my hair color a bit and Hiromi worked with me to help me decide what color worked best. Though their pricing isn't cheap for any of their services... their highly experienced stylists and good quality products makes up for it. I would go back to get touch ups and trims more often. Nao did a great job on my hair. I went there about 3 weeks ago. I wanted to trim a bit, but I still wanted to keep my hair long, I told her. I just wanted it nice and clean, but with some style. She made sure not to layer too much on the back, but trimmed my side around my face line to add a bit of volume. I loved it and now it is growing nice and clean, which tells me that Nao definitely has a skill. Only down side is that it cost $50 + tip, which to me was a bit expensive (I could usually get this kind of simple hair-cut +shampoo service around $40) Well, I know that this hair cut will last long time for me. Hiromi is extremely inconsistent. I've gone here to get my haircuts several times by Hiromo and I had one of my best haircuts from her but she also gave me THE worst haircut I've ever had. Her service is very inconsistent too. She could be friendly and nice some days and rude on other days. This place is pretty expensive. I came here on a whim because of the previous reviews by some of the gentleman that came before. I'm very impressed, Yuki was the one who cut my hair. She was very patient in listening to what I wanted done to my hair but also suggested her own input. Half-way through my cut she made suggestions for that turned out to look really cool. Not all guys are satisfied with the haircuts they receive, but I have to admit Yuki does not seem like she would ever give a bad haircut. I've never had anybody cut my sides as good as she did with just scissors. All in all an excellent place to get a haircut if you're into Asian style haircuts or any other haircut for that matter. The quality is excellent so be prepared to pay a little bit more than a cheaper barber. But it's well worth it, you can go to a cheap place and pay half the price but be disappointed. I always go there to get my hair cut/colored look for Takuji as he's there on Wednesdays and you will have a lot of fun!! He does a great job at mixing colors and and his cuts are very intricate as he often will do a cut when hair is wet, and then cut again when it is dry. I love his blow drying. I'm loving my Digital perm. It took three hours which made me really sleepy towards the end but I'm liking the results.

When I decided that I wanted to have a perm, my friends suggested that I head to ktown. I really didn't want to fight traffic and parking, so I searched for a place with relatively good reviews that was closer to me. I had never had any treatment for my hair, so this was a first. What I hoped for for my medium/longer straight hair was something wavy, and not exactly super curled. I called in on a Monday (open according to yelp), found that it was closed, then called back Tuesday, then set my appointment for Wednesday. On the phone, I asked about the different types of perms, and which would bet better suited for what I was going for, and the receptionist felt that I would be a good candidate for their "new" air wave perm. I had only ever heard about digital perms, but decided to trust their judgement. I didn't have a preference for specific stylist, so Takuji was assigned to me. After observing and playing with hair a bit, he also decided that their new air wave system would suit me, and explained that it would be discounted because it was new and assured me of a good price. I did not want a cut and the price was agreeable (I had also researched ktown pricing), so I went on with the process. I was glad they asked about what look I wanted to avoid. It took a total of only 2 hours. After, Takuji was big on me being comfortable with styling my own hair, and left my hair to air dry. By the time I got home, my hair basically looked the same as it did before I went in. I immediately called back about this problem. They handled the situation very calmly and I was rescheduled for the next day. When I came back for round two, Takuji felt that my hair needed more solution then the amount he first used, so we went through the process again. This time it took 3 hours. They didn't accept my small tip from me for feeling bad for using up two whole bottles of their solution, but told me to let them know if anything else comes up. So, story of my hair-life, it's been a little more than a week, and my hair is exactly what I was hoping for! Very natural looking waves, little maintenance required. I'm happy with the outcome. So glad I didn't get into a perm nightmare. read more

sorry guys, but i gotta disagree-hiromis awesome!! not only does she do THE best job of thinning my hair (my hair is thick and a little wavey) but whenever i take a picture of what i want, my hair looks exactly like the photo! and she does such an awesome job, it still looks the way its supposed to as it grows out. (my hairs super short, and i used to get my hair chopped every 4weeks, exactly. hiromis haircuts grow out so freakin' well, i can go about 2months now) ive had hightlights done here twice so far-the first time i told them "its my first time getting highlights. what should i do?" all they asked was "do you want it to look natural?" "yes?" "okay" ta-dah! totally natural looking highlights that lasted forever! great color too! fyi. if you take a photo of a style to her and she doesnt think itll work, shell totally tell you and probably recommend something else. her recommendations are pretty spot on too-the last 'do she suggested was one of my favs. and ive had lots!
