If I can give zero stars I would I just recently came across the owner on facebook so I felt compelled to come leave this review. I got my hair done here back in 2018 I was blond and wanted to go platinum instead of telling me that I needed to do it in sessions idk what the owner had told the Grl Vanessa to do but they left the bleach in my hair so long I had to tell them I think we should be rinsing it. Seemed fine at first but both of them together damaged my hair so bad that most of it broke off I had to do a major cut. My hair was sooo beautiful and think and it had never been the same again! They are not amateurs and they know what they were doing to my hair so that only leads me to think owner gets jealous of people and is evil. If you want good color don't come here! Cyndi had been doing my highlights for almost a year and I came in to have her do my blonde highlights again. Instead of doing my usual color she died my hair brown. I was shocked. She told me she knew how to do a color correction so I came back. This time my hair came out a brassy red! I asked to see Dana instead but Cyndi said Dana didn't do color correction. So I came back for a final time. It took forever because after she had washed out my hair she could see it wasn't right and she started over again. Now my hair has an orange tinge and red streaks. This person is unqualified to do hair color and my hair has probably been damaged. The owner said there was nothing she could do so don't expect her to stand behind her salon. Stay away! read more

Unfortunately, I'm only here for work for a short period of time to not go all the time, but I STRONGLY recommend all the Cali locals to not sleep on the artistry Veka and (rising star) Kristin have as stylists. Not only did they go above and beyond with my hair, but they were charmingly welcoming and flexible for my tight schedule between travel and work. I've never seen so many foils go in my hair so quickly and turn out better than the picture I showed! Veka asked me my wants and desires, then talked me through the process and nailed it. They let me relax and vibe after a long day but were friendly with thoughtful conversation! I went to 1st Ave Salon to do my hair and makeup for my Wedding. First, making an appointment was easy and they were able to give me a quotation after sending some pictures of what I wanted. Their prices are SO reasonable!!! On the day of, Salina was able to meet me at 7 am in the salon and did my hair just as I had shown her in the picture. She also put the hair vine on the updo. After we were done with the hair she moved on to do the makeup. It was perfect as well! Not only was I really happy with how my hair and makeup looked that day, Salina really made me feel so comfortable throughout the entire time. She was so easy to talk to and to explain what I wanted!! Overall it was a 10/10 experience and I would recommend anyone to go to this salon. THE SHORT VERSION: -Terrible service -Unprofessional -Confirm appt with someone that no longer even works there! THE LONG VERSION: Purchased a LivingSocial deal in May for waxing (thinking it was with my normal waxing lady; which turns out it wasn't). Three weeks ago, I called to make appointment for today. This Monday I received email from the salon confirming appointment and providing the name of the staff that would be providing the service. Arrive 15 minutes early for my appointment today. No one to greet me. When it was my appointment time, I had to approach one of the hairstylist to ask for the Desiree. Her response to me was: "Oh Desiree? She no longer works here." UM EXCUSE ME?! was what I thought to myself. The hairstylist said she'll go find out for me. 10 minutes later I am still left sitting in the front. Finally someone came out asking a group of us if we've been helped. So I told her about my situation and she says "Oh she no longer works here." She then proceeds to say that LivingSocial should have contacted those that purchase the deal to inform them that it's no longer valid. Fine, she did her part with notifying LivingSocial. But what about me, the customer?! The salon should have told me at the time of booking that the person/service is no longer being offered. Instead they booked me and even send out a confirmation email asking me to confirm my appointment. Made me drive all the way out there to just sit in the lobby area. The salon made the appointment with me, not LivingSocial. This salon is completely unprofessional! read more

This was my first time at this 1st Avenue Salon. I must say I do like the Monrovia location better than this location for a couple of reasons: - This one does not have it's own lot? I ended up having to park across the street. - It's a bit more busy - I prefer the quietness of the Monrovia location. - The skylight here leaves sun in my face whereas the other one did not. - Due to the fact there are two locations, there ended up being some mix up with my appointment almost getting transferred over to another stylist? Luckily I called to move up my appointment and I was reunited with Mary as I should have been. Other than that still the same great service and great hair that leaves you with compliments of "Oooh girl," for days on end. The wine and treats are great as well - and if your'e hungry there's a lot of food in the surrounding area. Mary always does a great job on my hair! She works at this location most days! read more

I love this salon and have been going to Frances for years. The best thing about her? She always does EXACTLY what I ask her! It is very difficult to do an A-line cut correctly (I know this from personal experience with many stylists who just could not pull it off) and she executes them perfectly even & without cutting length off from the front.
