The best Saltwater LFS within the San Fernando Valley! Their assortment of corals is unmatched. Ranging from frags to large colonies, their options almost seem unlimited. They have a wide variety of Soft, LPS and SPS corals along with fish, invertebrates and reef supplies. I called about an Elegance coral which I was in search of for a while. To my surprise they have 3 amazing colonies available in store. They chose the best out of the 3 and reserved it for me. I was coming from Ventura so I wanted to grantee for to be there when I came. Needless to say, it was exactly the one I was looking for. Only down side is, they're so far from me but maybe that's a good thing for my wallet because if they were local then I would be a weekly visitor. They used to be one of the few stores in the area with nice Acros about 10 years or so ago. Now their prices are inflated and they don't have a lot of high quality tank raised sps like they did back in the day. Careful when getting store credit for trade ins. This place has one of the best selections of coral that I have seen. I have visited their store a few times (love their display tank). However I think their prices are high. Recently I purchased a piece from them. Upon getting it home and dipping it, I found it had multiple worms and was starting to disintegrate (I am VERY glad that I dip my corals, although I know super diligent people will do multiple dips AND quarantine them, which I don't do). They did give me store credit, but I was kind of like, WTF you are passing off to me corals with substantial pests on them! So....not sure I would give them much of an endorsement, or buy from them again, especially with the premium prices they are charging. read more

First order I picked up in person. They knew it was a 4 hour drive home so they used extra large bags & maxed out the oxygen for my first pair of harlequin shrimp & some goby's. Second order was online & for shipment. I noted USE EXTRA OXYGEN like before! They didn't listen - A harlequin shrimp was DOA in a tiny bag with little oxygen. I complained & noted that I need the replacement one ASAP because they are supposed to be a pair, otherwise, the lone one will wreak havoc on the other pair in the tank already. Placed a new order immediately so they could rush shipment. Response was that they would not change their methods/practices & they have been doing this for 12 years. The employee James is a liar because they gave me a big bag with max oxygen for a 4 hour drive, but not for a 24 hour shipment via Fedex!?!?!? The response was also that they were now out of harlequin shrimp - clearly they had sent me their last weak & dying one. I was cussing them out. The owner got involved & cancelled my 2nd order, leaving my aquarium at risk, & refused to resolve the situation by selling me the pair of harlequin shrimp that I had ordered. They left me hanging trying to find the mate for the sole surviving harlequin elsewhere. Also cost me $40+ in s/h having to re-order elsewhere for what they recklessly failed to process for me Dave is a PC unprofessional idiot who doesn't believe the customer is right. If you say a bad word, he will ban you. Fine, since their prices are so much higher than liveaquaria anyways. read more

Customer service here is beyond great. With any questions or just helping out. The guys are awesome. And their selection of corals are absolutely amazing. Although they are on the pricey side. You did get a 15 day guarantee of your livestock which is awesome. Just make sure you keep the dead coral! They carry a variety of supplies for you. From tests to lighting and more. They do also have used tanks for sale occasionally at prices you can't get anywhere else. I always enjoy my time there! read more

This is literally as 'good as it gets'. I have had many reef aquariums over the years (specifically, nano reefs) and have been thinking about getting back into the hobby after a break. Checked out this store and WOW!!! 1. All tanks were IMPECCABLY clean 2. The animals were in amazing condition 3. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and did not talk down to me 4. This is by far the best place in LA to buy coral and fish. I bought my tank from Coral Supply and he almost ruined my tank. Thank god for Jesus! He is the most qualified specialist around. I'm just learning about this hobby and he has directed me correctly every time. James who works there is very nice as well. He is a specialist on lighting and went above and beyond in helping me. They quarantine their fish and you are most likely to get a healthy fish. Most places in the valley bring in the fish and sell it as is. Only use them and don't let anyone touch you're tank. Every fish guy claims to know everything, but Jesus and Vivid truly do. If you are not using Jesus, you should definitely have him look at your tank. I have been a regular customer of Vivid Aquariums for what i think is a year now! time sure flies! I remember long before that, before I even started on my first saltwater setup, I came in here mainly to see what they offered, a fair assortment of quality dry goods but low variety, spotless tanks, and helpful staff! I didn't stay long since I was also looking for threaded bulkheads for a large freshwater planted tank project I don't quite remember who it was, but someone was at least willing to take time out, at least 15 minutes, and dig through ALL the little plumbing parts drawers in an attempt to find me what i wanted or a workaround with the bulkheads they did have, they sadly did not have anything I could use. However my experience in there practically cemented the fact that this store would be my very first stop for anything I needed as far as saltwater. Months to maybe a year after this initial visit, I returned, May of last year deciding that I would start my first saltwater setup using a pair of rimless tanks that I got for my computer desk. I did most of my research on as far as basic parameters and what to expect, but wanted some not so obvious tips and tricks from the more experienced guys in there. James was the one to show me everything from what products I need to use and essentials that would make my life A LOT easier in the long run. All this on top of the basics I knew and how i wanted my system to turn out. We eventually hashed out a simple tank 12 gallon rimless with 7 gallon sump with refugium and chemipure blue since I wanted a natural approach. Worked great with regular water changes! I was recommended Salifert test kits and was also shown exactly how to use all of them, though I was told to test my water myself after the first time as doing them all is very time consuming, FAIR ENOUGH! I'm not about to waste the time of a handful of guys who are constantly multitasking just for something I can do myself. Eventually, I found the desktop tank to simply not be enough and decided to convert my discus wall rack of 4x 40 gallon breeder tanks into a saltwater setup. Naturally the guys at Vivid took care of me nicely, I researched what I wanted, they got it for me, if I had trouble, someone was always there, even if I had to wait a little. There was a time that I wound up having a brown jelly epidemic on my wall hammers, In an attempt to save them, James and I were looking up ways to treat it but we wound up resorting to cutting infected tissue off directly using the frag saw and then dipping in Lugols. Robert was the one that handled the cutting and dipping. After doing this several times, we eventually tried sticking what I had left in a high flow area of the store's rear holding system but sadly those did not make it, likely due to too much stress from being chopped and dipped constantly, while the attempt to save them failed, the time and effort put in from everyone meant a lot to me as a customer. Thanks to Vivid's 7 day guarantee, I was even able to get credit back from one of my pieces! Quality service and a reasonable bit of assurance in this hobby where anything can happen. Since my unfortunate incident, I have since asked for best methods of prevention and was simply told that stability was key and when someone was free to talk, I was guided to key methods like dosing pumps, feeding corals, good lighting types, PAR readings, powerful skimming, the pros and cons of UV sterilization and carbon on the reef, and their opinion on ozone. I now have a system of 5 aquariums that total up to 220 gallons, linked together that is heavily refugium filtered, Is equipped with a used large downdraft skimmer, Rox carbon, poly filter and even an Oxydator (one of very few items recommended to me from online forums that I rolled with excellent results) I look forward to coming to Vivid often, though lately I do not have much time to, and have always been helped thoroughly. While sometimes I had to wait a decent while for someone to assist me with a question, I did not mind because everyone is either extremely busy, James is usually calling up customers, sorting out orders for the day, and dealing with customer emails ALL AT THE SAME TIME while Arturo and Rudy are busy packing orders right up until the cut off time. If around for the day, Dave, Robert or Elliot would be taking care of people while making or inspecting frags. Naturally everyone would be extremely busy when the store operates as both a retail outlet and an online store, slow periods only in the morning and 30 minutes before closing. I can't recommend them enough, I learned so much! they are the best! EDIT: As of 2 months ago, I am now a proud member of the Vivid Aquariums team, as a hobbyist, former customer and and now current employee of Vivid, I will do my best to help our customers with the same quality of service that won me over! I went there a weeks ago to go pick up some fish and corals for my boyfriend as a surprise for his nano tank. The staff there is so rude. I felt like I was being undress by their eyes. I was wearing a low cut top and a skirt. I could hear them making motor boating noises from the other isles. I saw a reflection from one of the aquarium, one of their employee was making a rude gesture behind my back. I quick turn around and he acted like nothing happen. I quickly stormed out only to hear someone said mumble "those titties ain't coming back" followed by laughter. Never in my life I felt so violated in every way possible. The bright side is they do have nice corals. So all you single out there, this is the place to be at if you wanna get harass. With a laughter of course. Update. I just got a message from the owner himself: Hi Blu Lotus, I believe that if your review is genuine then you will take the time to help me correct this problem. Unfortunately there are lots of bogus reviews on Yelp today posted by competitors and such. If I don't receive a reply I will flag the review with Yelp and will post publicly that I tried to contact the reviewer for details but received no reply. I will then state that this review is fraudulent. I would go in for fresh water, and walk out with a couple of frags, frozen foods, and a fish occasionally. ***FORWARD TO TODAY*** The lack of help I get whenever I walk in now is worst than Fry's on Canoga Ave. Don't ask them to check your water parameters unless you want the look. Even the owner, Dave. Don't try and get your water parameters checked here. I would understand if I weren't buying anything (just going to get free water testing), but I ALWAYS buy something whether I need it or not.
