The fish tech did a decent job on cleaning the fish tank but hated that every time he was done with the cleaning we would have a ton of rocks in our kitchen sink. The owner of the company (Tony) was a rude a**hole! Every time my husband or I would call, he would hang up on us like we were bother him when we were in the middle trying to schedule and appt. He also had his office charge us for visits that never happened. Tony would cancel our appointments without notice and then send us a bill as if someone did show up. All in all, this place is HORRIBLE to do business with. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND to anyone, unless Tony was retired and passed it on to someone who actually knows how to do business. read more

I was on an HOA in a townhome community that had 5 ponds on the property. No matter who we called, the ponds usually ended up looking awful and had a chemical odor to them. Being a contractor I started to interview different companies to see what they could do. I was very impressed the first time I met Tony. Every other company told me they were going to do this, do that.......Tony looked at our ponds and told me they had the motors converted from above ground to pits in the ponds (how did he know that). We walked the property (which had many different types of trees, plants, etc) and he showed me why we were having problems with the waters clarity - too much debris. He didn't try to tell me what I wanted to hear, his solution was to clean the ponds (that the last vendor didn't do for years). As the motors failed, he would upgrade them and re-plumb the lines to keep debris out. He also knew a lot about the chemicals we were using - way too much. After bringing Tony on the ponds cleaned up and did not smell of chlorine. Our ponds were repaired by another company poorly and because of this (constant) maintenance was the only was to keep them looking beautiful. It's not what the HOA wanted to hear, but (being a contractor) Tony was honest about our issues. He wasn't the guy with the quick cheap fix. Doing things right the first time, his understanding of our systems and our environment.....guess you could say Tony and Coral Reef should (at the very least) is a company you should call if your water systems aren't what they should be. I liked the techs, fair enough job. Tho, I never knew who was coming or at what time. Is a call in advance asking for to much??? I never cared for Tony (the owner). For years the techs always came on a Thursday. Then one week no tech, no phone call. It made me mad. One day I'm in the backyard with the dogs and my house phone rings. Due to a bum leg I knew I'd never make it to our 3 rings only, phone. Rings 4 more times! I thought it was a solicitor (a daily occurrence).I decided to go in and try to answerer if it rang it again. It did and I heard a very abrasive mans voice yelling "Where are you?!! Where've you been?!!! Our tech has been outside for 20 minutes ringing the door!" I said "....Tony, you come on Thurs today is Wed. You didn't call to change the date. Wed's won't work in the future!" Coral Reef would sometimes bring $$$ fish w/o asking and bill Everything In Advance! Tony can be an aggressive, hard ass. I admit I was happy that I fired him! I really like my new guy. He texts the day before and then when he's on his way and seems very interested in the health of the aquarium! The 3 stars are for the techs. For doing 'enough.' Tony, Zero! Tony is easy to work with and his staff are a pleasure as well. His prices are very competitive. He has set up two very large tanks at my house. He and his staff are doing a great job maintaining them. He is easy to get in touch with and one of the few owners that I have met that wants to make sure things are done right and the customer is happy. Again, his pricing is more than fair. The quality and service is well beyond others that I met. He is upfront and does not try to upsell. He has being doing this for awhile and knows this like the back of his hand but takes time to explain things. Good luck getting the actual office when you call. 8 out of 10 times you get a phone answering service that never passes on the message to the Coral Reef. When you finally do reach someone at Coral Reef they are very, very disorganized. EXAMPLE: Making an appointment. You think you've made an appointment and then they will call you a few days later, leave a message on your voicemail canceling and asking you to reschedule. You try to call them back and guess what? That's right! You get the answering service!! So if you're lucky you'll be able to get through in a few hours, but more likely than not, a few days later and sometimes they'll just never call you back. And the worst part about it all, they actually caused property damage in our backyard. When using the outside water tap they ended up braking it. Never bothered to offer to pay for the damages, or even give us credit for their services, instead they just told us that water tap was "old". Yeah, it's like that with them. Good luck! read more

Not happy with there service, our tank got dirty the week after. They took our plants, they said we would get them back in 2 weeks. I had to call them and follow up and Tony said he would bring them the Thursday which that made it week 3. This guy shows up with plants and are the wrong plants. I called and made a complaint but I guess I have to talk to Tony. We had another company service our tank and it has been clean since then. I don't recommend this company at all. read more

These guys do ok at maintenance . However, they rip you off when the offer to buy your koi. They offered us $250 minimum per koi (our koi were any where from 15 inches to nearly 24 inches long). We agreed to sell them 10. They identified 2 that had physical defects (missing an eye) so agreed that that were not sellable. The other eight were to be purchased from a total of $2,000. Instead, after they retrieved our koi, they sent us a check for $1,350. Still trying to settle with these people and keep getting a different story each time. On top of that, we told them to stop servicing our pond but they continue to try to bill us for monthly service. I typically don't write reviews, but I need to share my experience with this company as a warning to any customer who is looking into hiring Coral Reef Inc. A few weeks ago, someone from Coral Reef came to clean our small fishpond. They dumped so many chemicals into the pond that it killed EVERY SINGLE one of our fish. My mom called Tony the owner to report this and his immediate response was that his staff did nothing wrong and failed to take any ownership of their mistake. So we let it go. Then this morning, Coral Reef returned to our home to clean our larger fishpond and a few hours later I went outside to find EVERY SINGLE fish dead and they had left the water hose running and water had overflowed out of the pond and flooded the surrounding areas. So Tony - are you going to tell us once again your staff did nothing wrong?? HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! If you are willing to risk having your fish killed, then go ahead and use this company, but don't say I didn't warn you!! read more

So far my experiences have been very good with Coral Reef. They are available when you need them for emergency's and for simple questions. They really had our 65 gallon tank in great shape. Recently we have upgraded to a larger tank and my coral and fish do not seem to be responding well but Im hoping that when coral reef comes back out they are able to get it back on track. There are too many people involved to get something done. The negative attitude is a real turn off. Our pond is only a year old. The water is clear and the chemical balance is right on. We changed to coral reef after we experienced a dishonest act with our previous company. The first thing we are told that the Aquascape pump is 100% inadequate. They are the only one to say that and we have had a couple companies to give us proposals. They want to upgrade us to a sand filter that is absolutely not recommended by any other company for Koi ponds. The aquascape is designed to accommodate 3500 gallons of water, we only have 2000 and that is a slight over estimate. We have five Koi's. So, nix that. I wanted an explanation on the first bill and was met with absolute rudeness. There were other negative remarks as well, regarding design, too many rocks, etc. absolute rubbish. My husband recommends giving them a chance but, how can they be trusted to do the proper job, if all they do is complain. Their key phase, "well we will work with what you have but we can only do so much with your filter". That is a red flag. In the meantime I am going to revisit the other proposals. read more

They come every week to maintain my salt water reef tank, and I trust them to be inside when I'm not home. The office staff has been great, and the owner is fantastic!!! read more

Has this company ever had a single happy customer? These all say pretty much the same things I have. Poor service. Poor communication. Calling them crooks. Worse than that, it is painfully obvious that they attempted to post their own shill reviews in a sad attempt to offset the poor ones, and got caught! Still no other glass top? I need 2 more handles too as the first ones failed to adhere. I nearly cut myself as result. I will cover it, but their guy basically left it on the floor where I stepped on it helping him. An unnecessary, and very dangerous situation that could have easily been avoided by leaving it on the tank, or setting up out of the way. He also left a broken razor blade on my kitchen counter. "What if I had kids?" He uses them to cut hoses? Very poorly I might add. I could have cut them cleaner with a chain saw. The first guy added way too much salt, and set the temp way to high as well. On that note, I think the heater coil is cracked. It looks burnt inside. They call me a complainer, and blame everyone else for their incompetence, but in my opinion their company took very little care setting up my tank. read more
