Recommend to avoid at all cost. Bought a home with a pre-existing Vivint system. It can not be connected to WiFi without the PIN. The PIN we were given was incorrect so the system can not be accessed in any way. Hard to imagine a tech company being this shortsighted in designing their product but apparently there is no way to recover it or fix it. We have been a Vivint customer for many years. As our equipment aged. we called to have the equipment serviced a few years ago. The service man came out, said he fixed the equipment, but it was never repaired. We continued to pay the bill. A few days ago, my husband called to cancel the service because it didn't work, and we were still paying the bill. He was transferred to the customer loyalty department. where he was offered for the bill to be lowered and the equipment to be updated for five-year commitment. My husband went over the sensors and other equipment in detail that we currently have with the representative. He told my husband that this offer would be completely free. Today the technician came out and some of our equipment could not be upgraded because it is no longer supported; he offered alternatives. He said we would be charged $300 on our next bill for these alternatives. My husband and I spent almost 3 hours on the phone today with various representatives of Vivint explaining what happened and repeatedly asking for someone to listen to the recorded call and what was offered. No one would listen and repeatedly told us what equipment we were getting for the $300. One of the representatives offered us $50 off, which is insulting and just more of not listening to what was originally offered. At the end of three hours, we ended up telling them to come get the equipment they had installed and reinstalling our old equipment. Our bill is to be returned to the original price and the five-year commitment dissolved. our intent at this moment is to cancel after our original equipment is reinstalled. Yet again... VIVINT IS HORRIBLE. I cancelled my account (formal request in writing on July 15th once all my equipment loan was paid in full. Was told it would process by August 15th. Had to make 4 phone calls ranging from 45-60 minutes each time to get through the whole process. FInal confirmation on August 5th that my final balance was paid and everything was taken care of, and I would be fully cancelled with them. TODAY... OCTOBER 6th, they call me saying my account is still active and is carrying a balance. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COMPANY? Now, once again... I've thoroughly appreciated Vivint. I have the most inclusive system and I feel that my home and I are adequately protected. There is little delay between the alarm being tripped and the call to local police being made. This is a huge deal to me, as it should be to anyone. I also love that I can monitor the system via my cell phone, including locking and unlocking doors and turning off/on lights. The front door lock has been replaced once, but the tech was quick and efficient. Customer service is professional and helpful anytime I call. The only problem I've had with them is that a credit card on file had expired and I called to update them. They tried to bill the expired card the next month anyway. One phone call corrected the issue. Also, ask what discounts they have available. I pay about $50 monthly. read more

Billing is a joke, a representative will call weeks before the bill is due demanding payment, and when you have auto pay set up they love to double charge you for the month and make you send in checking account statements to prove they are in the wrong. Currently looking into other home security services and looking to drop vivint soon since im not tied into a contract. Although I found the hardware and system adequate, the technology does not compare to better more competitive offerings from other providers. I found their customer service purposely unhelpful and their contracts are predatory - 60 months! Beware - this is a pass! read more

If it were possible I'd give -5 stars. We had this system for exactly 5 years. EVERY single time we armed it the alarm was triggered in error. EVERY TIME. We had to pay fines to our local police for false alarms! We hated it and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. I wouldn't recommend them to my enemies. read more

January 26, 2015 the Georgia Attorney General's Office entered into an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance with Vivint. The state contended about failure to include proper cancellation instructions that included: dates, and move, cancellation and/or renewal policies. June 27, 2017 in North Carolina, Vivint was again reported to BBB for failure to include proper cancellation instructions. These are just a couple, out of many, cancellation complaints to the BBB about Vivint. Just like my husband and I, consumers were told by their representatives that there was a 30 day, NO questions asked, cancellation policy. But, when Vivint was contacted for cancellation by consumers and myself, Vivint stated they have a 3 day cancellation policy, not a 30 day one or that you have to be "approved" for a 30 day trial. Our representative, Brandon, and his supervisor both told us we had a 30 day trial to try the system out and see how we liked it. NO cancellation fees, NO hidden fees, NO questions asked. I even made an effort to ask if there were any hidden rules to the 30 day trial that could lock us in permanently to this contract and was told NO by both Brandon and his supervisor. It wasn't until I called into Vivint support that I found out there was some sort of secret rule that my husband and I were NOT informed of. Apparently you have to be "approved" for the 30 day trial and we were only "approved" for 3 days!! We were NEVER told about this "approval" trial. We were told, by Brandon, that we had 30 days, not 3, to try the system out or we could cancel NO questions asked. The support representative said he would have to double verify with Brandon and, of course, Brandon said he only approved 3 days which my husband and I know is FALSE! Again, this was NEVER communicated to us in our home and if it had been we would have NEVER signed up for Vivint in the first place. Who in the world can experience a system in 3 days!? We were given false information and signed a contract under false pretences given to us by Brandon and his supervisor. Now, we can't cancel our membership, even though it's only been 20 days, without paying a HUGE cancellation fee that we should NOT have to pay since we are still within our 30 days. And, of course, the Vivint support rep and Brandon say there's nothing they can do about it. I'm sorry, but I've worked for corporate industries and there is ALWAYS something that can be done. What should be done is Brandon and Vivint should fix this issue. They should admit where they are wrong and allow us to cancel our membership under the 30 day trial with NO questions asked since that's what was communicated to my husband and I during the time of installment. read more

We signed a 2 year agreement with this company and out of the 2 years we have had the service, we only used it 2 weeks.....the batteries went dead in the window units and no one from this so called security company has called to try to put new batteries in, thereby leaving a security risk! Also, the customer service stinks, and now we are being railroaded into keeping this stinky service until December 2015 because they say we signed a 3 1/2 year contract when we only signed for a 2 year one which is now up! I gave them 1 star, but they deserve to be sued for taking advantage of their customers and trying to continue to make money off people who no longer wish to be their customers....VIVINT, COME GET YOUR CRAP! read more

This company offers alarm systems with home automation available as an add on. We have had our system for a little over 8 months, and had to have them out to service the system 6 times so far. We had their top system SKY installed. With most of the options. While it does function as an alarm system, the automation part has had issues. Our thermostats have changed the temp in the house on their own at times. And the sensors installed in the doors keep popping out. The system fails to up date itself as promised, and the front door lock had to be replaced. The phone app does function as promised, and it does allow mobile control of the system. Even though this system runs off cellular which is included, it does require a wireless internet in your home for some functions. Overall the rating is fair, and the customer service has been ok. Some of our problems were created by the installer, while very nice, did not use the proper technics for installing the sensors. You will have to commit to a long service contract, but no upfront charge for equipment. Monthly charge is about normal for this type of service. We pay $70 per month. read more
