We purchased this system at Best Buy in February 2018. On February 28th, a very professional tech showed up at 9:30am and after a very long day our home system was installed and ready to go. The tech was professional and very thorough. A month later, our systems signal is getting weaker so I called in and they told me they were sending a bridge and if I continue to experience issues to call back. System rebooted. I called in a few hours later on the same day, because the system was very weak and I couldn't speak using the doorbell speaker. System rebooted. I was told they were going to send a technician with the bridge. An appointment was set for a Tuesday, March 27 which I had to take time off from work to be able to available and the tech didn't show. No call, nothing. I call in and I was told it was a scheduling department issue and they will call me the following day. The following day, no call. I called in two days later to find out what happened and I was told the tech cancelled the appointment and they are sorry. The the customer service rep tried to help and with the help of the scheduling department, they set up another appointment for today, Saturday April 14th. Once again I take time off and guess what?? No one showed up!! I confirmed the appt via email. This is the second time, a tech hasn't shown up or called. No communication from Vivint. Why do I even have this system?? I pay for a system they can't get their things in order!!! After getting an earful from me, because I am extremely disappointed and upset with the lack of service, another appointment was set. I contacted this company about an ongoing issue with my security system and was advised to upgrade to fix it. I agreed, but the upgrade did not resolve the problem. I returned the equipment as instructed since it was unnecessary and not functioning as promised. Despite this, the company refused to issue a refund or cancel my service, claiming I am still bound to a 5-year contract--even though the equipment was returned and the issue remains unresolved. These solicitors ambush you & don't give you all of the information. They talk you into getting service & paying thousands of dollars for a system. So you pay the monthly fee & just as much monthly to pay off the equipment. They stick you in a 5 year contract until you pay off the equipment. Luckily they give you 3 days to cancel, which I did. Now I'm just waiting for them to pick up their equipment. They had a tech come the same night we signed up & they did a partial installation. Do to health problems I made the decision to cancel my account. There was an obligation for their equipment that I had maintained as it was thru my mortgage holder. I stopped paying the account in July. When I called to discuss the notice for payment of monitoring I was quizzed as to why I was cancelling. I was diagnosed with cancer in May and was forced to adjust my expenditures. She put me on hold and came back asking what type of cancer and what stage. She would put me on hold again and come back to ask if I was disabled. Did I have the paperwork concerning the disability. She would need the information concerning my health to help me. Since when is a security firm entitled to your health information? The call concluded with the lady telling me that I owed for 18 more months. My advice- avoid this company at all cost. Just some advice for renters, do not get the Vivint security system. When you decide to move it's a $300 fee to uninstall and reinstall the product. We were advised it was free and that's the only reason we got it. I feel they bait renters into getting it without providing accurate information on the cost of moving the system. read more

We've had Vivint for over 5 years. Generally it works fine but I have a few specific complaints. First is that the smoke detector doesn't come in a wired configuration and requires 3 AAA batteries which is very unusual and they wear out fast. Another is that it took hours on the phone, multiple times to switch who is the admin in our system which should have been a 2 minute tops operation. Third, the app stopped working on my android (Samsung) phone. After 3 tech support calls I was finally told that my 3 yr old phone is obsolete and that's why the app doesn't work (seriously!). If I want to use the app I just need to spend $1000 on a new phone. read more

Sunrun/Vivint, whoever they are claiming to be now are an awful company. My current electric bill is $400.....and while I know that my usage went up, the amount of energy "sold" to Duke Energy went down tremendously to only 266 kWh. I called and was told that my system is working at 102% of what was anticipated, so nothing is wrong on their end. They are saying they will charge me $190 for them to come out to check on THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT since there is NO WAY their equipment is working properly, because I produced a lot more than 266 kWh. I was told that we only submitted 266 kWh, and all of the other electricity we produced we used up. Which is complete crap. EVERYTHING that we produce is supposed to get transferred to the electric company. These people are refusing to help me. All they will say is that my panels are working properly, but whatever converter/inverter, whatever it is, is not working to transmit the energy. I'm stuck with $300/mo solar panels, and a $400 electric bill this month. Yes, my usage was more this month...it's freaking hot in Florida....BUT per the solar company, my panels gained A LOT MORE than 266 kWh. I hate this company and I hate solar. I have been dealing with their billing department, customer service and technical support since early June. 1st issue: They deducted the monthly fee 3x from bank when asked for refund waited for ever and several calls later finally received the refund, incorrect amount but received it. Called them to claim the rest they stated I owed them the month when I explained they deducted 3x they expressed emphatic concern and offer to refund. Did not see the funds until several calls and several tech/operators and supervisor involvement. 2nd issue: system not working properly. Cameras off line. Wall panel no volume or not displaying when someone is near or rang doorbell. 3rd issue: A month later, I am getting collection calls as if my house was on fire. What's the urgency?! 4th issue: They deduct their monthly fee every month with no issues. Meanwhile, system issues still remains, door lock not working. We have to use the garage door to enter the home. Last issue: This week I've noticed my system screen was black and displayed a message that read "your account needs attention". Today as I am getting ready for the day and check my account to plan my day, noticed Vivint payment pending for $101. That's NOT the amount I normally pay. I added the service plan to ensure I don't have to get new equipment and have to pay $99 every time I need a technician because I don't work well with remote phone techs. It seemed logical! Again, they deduct 3x $ of what I pay!! Call them to inform them of the issue with the pad, door lock and billing, they are sending new batteries and charger because it was "not responding" and to my surprise billing department closed. Need to call back Mon-Fri 7am-7pm. This is epic. Another chasing my money month with them!! In an event of an emergency, does this mirror their dispatch service. The new system I had installed does not seem to be the same quality however the usability and home automation is still by far the best on the market. We have had some WiFi connection issue and three service calls since the original install. It's frustrating because it's new but it's been fixed promptly each time. The technician Benson was a very pleasant and knowledgeable young man. He impressed me how he installed the outdoor cameras with ease and ran clean almost non-existent power wiring which I appreciate. I have had a Vivent alarm in my home and business for over four years. I would never consider them in the future, nor would I recommend them to anyone. All aspects of this company in my experience have been far below average. At the install for both my home and office, the installer did not seem to have any sort of mechanical aptitude. He drilled multiple holes in the exterior of my home and business, did not use the holes and filled them with caulk. Wires were run along ceilings and stapled to the drywall, even on ceilings were the wire easily could have been tucked above the ceiling (he did this on a drop ceiling in the office!!!). I never complained about it, just went back and re-did what they did to make it look acceptable. The experience of monitoring was ok, and almost acceptable, but overall less than average. Anytime there was a problem, which seemed far more frequent than what I experienced with 20 years of AT&T, the calls to Vivint were literally uncomfortable. The time I spent on the phone with this company is unbelievable. It was always at least 30-40 minutes speaking with them about any issue. Also, the ability to understand them was extremely challenging. The phone connection always seemed bad, I could barely make out what they are saying, and the way they communicate is literally uncomfortable. For example, if I asked a question, their response was delayed for what seemed like 30 seconds. I would find my self saying are you there, did I lose you, throughout the entire call. I just cancelled the service at my office because I sold the building, and the person speaking with me was more concerned about trying to sell the buyer a Vivent system through me. Really foolish, I had to remind them I am calling to cancel a service and don't want to be a sales person for them and would really like to make the call as quick as possible. I do not believe I have ever written a bad review, but I felt that perhaps I could help others avoid dealing with this frustrating company. Generally, if I think poorly of a company or service, I keep it to myself. I feel all alarm companies will give disappointment here and there, but this company definitely is capable of hitting a disappointment home run, pretty much anytime you have to contact them. Vivint is a 'new age' home security system located in Utah. It's all about slick technology. If you never have problems, great. Good technology, good monitoring. I like Technology. I'm a First Adopter. I like some troubleshooting (just not the kind where I end up wishing I had learned how to code). Every company, product, technology etc. has warts. You just have to live with that fact. So actually, Vivint is 4-5 stars for technology. How many stars for customer service? They suck at customer service. They answer the phone if you call to report an alarm or a false alarm, but Vivint Customer Service will NOT answer the phone. Don't even bother with the chat. I recommend calling the main number, hitting 1 twice to report an alarm, then have that person who will always answer the phone transfer you directly to Customer Service. Be patient, they're in the Philippines, and they are extremely nice and polite, but extremely difficult to communicate with (not their fault, they're hired for pennies on the dollar to read from a script). Speak directly, be precise about what you need, and check for comprehension at least twice. I've had to do this at least 5 times just to remedy one problem. Hard to wrap your head around this: If they can't get customer service, how can you trust them to summon the police when your house is being burglarized, or worse, invaded while you're in bed at night? Just remember: with any product or service, your only vote is with your feet, but you do have options. I have ADT on another home. Never a problem. App works great. System went out because of a fault in the Internet connection. ADT, wait for it, CALLED ME! Walked me through re-establishing the connection. Called me back later to confirm that all was well. A sales rep came by on a Friday afternoon saying Vivint is looking for model homes to offer trials of their equipment and services. I agreed to the trial and the rep said he was going to work hard to make sure we got a good deal of $20 only to have the system and monitoring in our home for 3 days on a trial. He also said that he could get us the trial for 7 days instead of 3. The appointment took so long that I had to go to a doctor's appointment but afterwards, he came back and we discussed it again. He said that actually the amount would be $70 for the trial. Strange. I still thought that we were getting a deal though, at 10 dollars a day for 7 days. I had him provide written confirmation that we would get the trial for 7 days, risk-free. The installation began within 20 minutes of talking to the rep - He was still on my couch when the installation tech showed up ready to install. I wouldn't have agreed to this trial if I'd known I wouldn't be able to schedule a time for the installation. This was in the middle of me needing to pick up my daughter from preschool. Guy wasn't done until after my daughter had been in bed for an hour and a half - it took nearly 5 hours for the installation to complete. My husband and I tried to cancel later that evening. When my husband called, he sat through two waiting periods before finally being told that he would need to call back on Monday to speak with the Customer Loyalty Department about cancellation. During his phone call, however, he was also told that our rep should have never told us that he could get us 7 days instead of 3 because we would have been put under contract after the third day. I should also mention that the "assistant manager" who came to install the equipment also boasted that he could try to get us a full month before canceling the "trial". Things started feeling sketchy at around this point in the ordeal. Anyway, the following Monday I called Vivint's Customer Loyalty line and was very cordial when I explained that we wanted to cancel the trial. The rep said he would make a note in our account and gave us the date and time of our scheduled uninstall, which was going to be in 6 days. Great, fine. Later that day I was looking at my online banking statement because my debit card was declined during my lunch break. Come to find out, I was double charged the $76.46 (and my bank had a serious system failure causing no one's deposits from the last three days to post which contributed to this issue, but I digress.) So I called Vivint a second time, livid, but didn't swear. I think anyone in this situation after only 2-3 days would be absolutely equally upset, if not more so. I asked him when I could expect my refund of both charges. Justin said that one of the charges was from Citizens Bank and that it's part of the trial. I said that can't be right because they both show as identical charges. Regardless, I asked when I could expect to see my refund since I would be out nearly $160. He said that refunds couldn't be issued until the equipment is removed from my home in 6 days. And he was very matter-of-fact, as if to say "sorry 'boutcha luck!", when he said it. So essentially, I'm missing the better part of $200 for nearly a week, all because I decided to try out this new home security system. This has by far been a surprisingly terrible experience from day one, which only continues to get worse. The same rep, Justin, said that in order for cancellations to officially process I would need to submit a written request via email. This is something everyone in the line before him neglected to mention. And judging from the way our experience has been thus far, I'm not confident that the company would've acknowledged the error on their part - by not informing us - and not put us on the hook for the entire cost of the equipment plus monitoring - because of THEIR mistake. Nonetheless, I submitted the email and made sure to include the verbiage Justin said we needed to include in the email. I asked for a receipt of the email and have been told that most receipts are sent the following day of the request being sent. Alright, fine. Now, I spoke directly with my bank to ask them about this double charge. They said that they are both from the same entity, that there was no "Citizens Bank" anywhere that they could see. So they agreed to remove the second charge of $76.46 because it hadn't posted yet. Afterwards, I called Vivint one more time to clarify this "double charge" because my bank gave me different information. The last rep I spoke to, Bain, said that there should only be a $76 charge AND a $52.41 charge. "Really?" As it turns out, the $52 charge came from Citizens Bank as a loan for the equipment / monitoring service -- a charge I was told on the day the rep came to my house wouldn't happen if I canceled within the 3-day (or 7-day) trial period. Run as fast as you can!! My credit score was hit today because a tenant in one of my rental units used this service and had the service terminated when she moved. She was current on her payments up to that date and they made no further effort to bill her or us after she moved. They sent us to collections when the home was sold. They claimed we owed 850.00. When our tenant asked them to produce proof that they had billed her or delivered services after she terminated them, they did not respond and went immediately to ding our credit score about 50 points. I am a senior citizen and won't live long enough to restore my excellent credit score. If I could give this company a minus score I would. Janet A.'s review should be approved. My family had a similar experience with the service appointment, but we were lucky and have an appointment within the next month. My husband also talked to a manager that said they will try to approve overtime for a tech to come out sooner and if he did not hear from them, it meant that the overtime was not approved and our original appointment time still stood. He said that he can also try to call back to see if there were any cancellations. It all started when there were recent storms in the area and the system went out. After a couple of calls to customer service and trying to resolve the problem over the phone, the rep said that they were going to send out the part for my husband to fix the system himself. The rep put my husband on hold and came back and said they did not even had the part, so he set up an appointment for the following month. This is the point when he asked for the manager and the manager could not even resolve the problem. The best that they did was prorate the bill for the time that the service was out (duh - we aren't going to pay for service that we don't have). My husband made a follow up call to see if there were any appointment cancellations. The rep said there were none and before they hung up, the rep wanted to update my husband's credit card on file because the monthly charge did not go through. Why would they need a credit card on file when we aren't even getting any service?! When the next month was due, his debit card was automatically charged for both months...while the service was STILL off. Weeks went by and the tech came out to fix the system. Within minutes, it was up and running. We felt bad for the tech because we wanted to be so mean for the past service that we received, but he was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It is unfortunate that I cannot rate his service alone and give 5 stars. We have yet to get credited for the time that the service was inoperable. read more

I hate Vivint the cameras and thermostat are always messing up. They never work like they are suppose to. I was paying for the 24hr w.e service and the system would always give me problems. I had them tell me to reboot over and over again for it to work one day to then go back and freeze... it was always something with either the ac running the same temperature all day instead of following the schedule. The thermostat wasn't following the schedule over the summer and of course my bill came super high. They gave me problems paying it off and said if it happens again there not paying it even tho is system that SUCKS!! When I called to correct this issue the first rep put me on hold then appeared to be pretending he couldn't hear me then hung up, the next two reps just disconnected me when I explained why I was calling. A sales person came up to my house in August 2020 he gave me the sales pitch of how much I needed this system so I had my dad cosign for me because my credit was not the best so I got the security pad the door lock smoke detector and the thermostat he was able to install everything that evening it worked for all of the month then I started having problems with the thermostat. I woke up on a Sunday morning didn't have heat didn't have AC so I chatted with a rep for over an hour and then she decided that she needed to send me to somebody else that person gets on the line I go through the same thing with him this lasted for almost 2 1/2 hours I was done I had things I had to do I said I want somebody here tomorrow morning they didn't have anybody for Monday morning they can get somebody out Tuesday well I have health conditions that I need to have my AC and heat. I finally got to talk to a supervisor late Monday afternoon she credit my account for $50 but said there was nothing they could do about getting somebody out on Monday so then I waited till Tuesday and I called the number that they told me to call to check to see when the tech would be out there at even have any record of my appointment I argued with them on Tuesday, they finally got some real late Tuesday or my AC still wasn't working so I called my AC company they came out and said that the thermostat that was on the wall which was from Vivint blew the capacitor in my AC unit because I have it serviced regularly I am now trying to get my money back and have this financing to be over but I nobody will call me back last Saturday I had somebody knock at my door and it was an area sales person for Vivint manager and I told him I was working at home I couldn't talk to him at that point he said he would come back This is the worst company ever I want this stuff taken out of my house they won't do it I want the financing to stop that won't happen never ever ever ever ever use this company. read more

I would give this company zero stars if the Yelp would allow. I have no idea how Vivint Home Security is still in business with the level of service they provide. Absolute crooks. The door to door sales representative made a thousand promises and locked us into a 42 month contract. DO NOT GET THIS SERVICE. This system is not one you can trust with the safety of your belongings or loved ones. My experience has been horrible. I spent $4,000 to secure a 3 bedroom townhome. I've only had the service for less than 2 months, yet there's been two occasions when I've come home while the alarm was set and opening my door did NOT trigger the alarm. Another time, the alarm went off when I wasn't home and no doors or windows were opened. This system has proven to not secure my home. Also, a third door sensor went offline LESS THAN 24 HOURS after the installation. This is my second home so for weeks my home was not secure because they cannot trouble shut faulty equipment if no one is at the property. Once fixed when I returned, it happened again as soon as I left town...leaving my house unsecured for another two weeks. To make matters worse, the guy who installed the equipment messed up a sensor to my garage door which required me to pay a third party company to fix it! Vivint refused to reimburse me. And the cherry on top is that I financed the equipment and despite the clear examples that I've been RIPPED OFF, they tell me that I'd have to pay off the equipment ($4,000) in order to cancel the service. In a piss poor attempt to make things right, they told me they would send a tech out first thing in the morning because I was leaving town that afternoon and I stressed that these issues needed to be fixed before I left........and no one showed up or even called. To say I've been scammed is an understatement. A COMPLETE SCAM! Learn from my mistake. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! I've been with Vivint for over 10 years and now out of contract. I replaced windows and doors in my home and had them out to replace sensors and upgrade system. They wanted to charge and exorbitant fee for upgrading and the cost was double per month from what I'm currently paying. I won't even mention the horrible customer service I received leading up to the appointment that was very misleading and deceptive regarding cost. I will 100% spend my money with another company that has better customer service and is fairly reasonable in cost. read more

I'm having my system set up this week and I am already super frustrated with Vivint's customer service team. The experience started when I contacted the company to inquire about turning on a system that's already installed in a house I am moving into (a rental). Kody, the rep, left me a number to text after I spoke to my roommates about turning the system on. We agreed on it and I texted him a few days later when I was at the property. I didn't hear back for several hours so I called the main number to see if I could get things set up while I was there. Shortly after I finished my call with Jake and submitted my card info to start service, I received a text from Kody asking if I would let him set things up so he could get the credit for the account. I said that was fine, but it seems like no one coordinates over there as I was caught in the middle of back and forth texting between the two reps telling me who I should and shouldn't listen to. Jake left off saying that we couldn't get the setup done that day because they needed to do some kind of work on the account, so he asked to set up another time. I told him Tuesday (today). I had to tell him THREE TIMES that no, I wasn't available on Saturday or Sunday, and that Tuesday was the next day I could be here for setup. Really didn't appreciate the attitude I got in return. So here I am today. I was told by both reps that setup would involve a 30-minute phone call between me and the technician to guide me through the process. I got the call (half an hour behind schedule) from the rep, who told me that they needed to send out a technician to get the setup done. This has overall been a big waste of my time as I've had to leave my work several days now to be at the new property for these appointments when I could have just taken the call today from my office. I would appreciate being reimbursed as such, but all customer service chat could tell me is that they would "check and make sure everything is ready to go." After a week without actually getting service, I should hope everything is ready to go. If this continues, we will not be keeping service for very long. UPDATE: The technician, Jason, came out to perform the setup on Thursday and was friendly and professional. He went over the contract with me in great detail. So you can imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to see a $125 charge to my account that was never explained or described to me at any point of the process. I spoke to a customer service rep who explained that the charges were a DOUBLE charge for equipment plus an activation fee, both of which are listed on my contract for $0. It didn't take much digging for the rep to find the info on my contract and readjust, but now I'm out an extra $125 for a week, or until the refund is processed. I don't understand how that came up - are your customers charged without anyone looking at the contract? Not to mention the double equipment fee was an error to begin with. I really don't understand how you can play fast and loose with your customers' info but that doesn't seem very secure to me. read more
