If I could give this company no stars I definitely would. I have had the service for about 6 months and it's been nothing but a headache from the start. The salesman was overly pushy and was completely dishonest about what we were going to receive with activating the service. The system would not update for three months, my doors were showing open when all actuality they were closed. Contacted tech support 5 days straight and still didn't get offered a repair tech to look into issue. They never explained that I had to send in a cancellation letter after my cancellation call which resulted in me having to pay two more months of service by the time I figured out they never canceled. With only $29.99/month with paying your equipment off separately 3 years no interest with Best Buy. I love how they are the only security system who has voice integrated in the house which will minimize a lot of false alarms from the police! A lot of bad reviews are because of equipment not working well. I've been with Vivint for 5+ years. We hadn't had any problems until recently. This month, our alarm went off (reason was "master bedroom window open" to which Vivint called and asked if it was ok if they dispatch the police. We of course said yes, as we were both at work, and didn't leave any windows open. So the police come out, my husband meets them out there. No one broke in, all the windows are locked and closed. False alarm. They couldn't explain why the alarm had gone off. 2 weeks later, we get a bill in the mail from SAPD, for $75 for coming out. We paid it, and then I asked Vivint for reimbursement as we felt the alarm didn't work properly and obviously was wrong on their end because nothing was wrong with our windows. (Also- if you are a Vivint customer, you know when the battery goes out on something or something IS open, the alarm panel will announce it to you constantly until you fix the problem or bypass it daily.) We never had to fix or bypass this, it never again announced to us that window was open. So I fax Vivint a letter -as instructed- asking for reimbursement, along with my receipt. 2 weeks later, I haven't heard back so I follow up. They declined to reimburse me the $75 because I approved the police to come out. MORONS. Who wouldn't have approved the police to go out when your alarm company is telling you a window is now open in the home? We pay near $75/month for their service and have for years. Needless to say, them reimbursing a long time customer a fee they caused, wouldn't have hurt them, it would've saved them a customer. When our contract is up in 2 years, I hope losing a customer that has always paid on time was worth it to them. read more

We were currently in a contract and he said that the cancellation fee was only about 75% of the remaining contract. That wouldn't be too bad. When I questioned him more about it he "searched" on his phone for what he said was their cancellation policy and said that my alarm company showed they would only charge 75% to break contract. I should have asked him to show me. When I went to cancel with my alarm company I was told it was the full amount for the remainder of my contract!!! WARNING#1 We were ready for them to install, they said the next available install was 10pm! Seriously? Can't we schedule for another day that's more convenient for us other than when we should be sleeping? They said no because they would need to charge us an installation fee if they came back another day. They were here until after 130am!! The sales person called back later apologizing saying he didn't realize how long it would take. LIAR! He knew exactly how long it would take to install. WARNING#2 There has not been a day pass where we haven't had any difficulty with the system. The cameras are always offline, the doorbell rings when someone approaches the front door, the notifications are going crazy on our phones, the sensors and cameras are going off simultaneously in all locations... When we called to say this is ridiculous, we were told that we would be given a full refund if they can't correct the problem. Isn't it funny now that I can't find that person any where in the company now? As if he's disappeared. WARNING#3 I could go on and on. Very frustrated with this company! I have been an owner of the system for a year and a half and loved it. We moved out of our home into an apartment temporarily until we move to our next base (my husband and I are active duty military) I called and deferred my account for 6 months until we move into our next home. I have been charged every month since deferring (3 months now) and called each time and am told it will be resolved and I'll be refunded my money and it has yet to happen. I call again today and now they told me they can only credit my account and not give me my money back. At this point it's $150 that I could be using toward important necessities I need while moving. We are military and don't make much money, everything counts. This whole situation really has me contemplating whether I even want to continue with their service. read more

I had this system installed about a year ago and have had nothing but problems along the way. I like the cameras, when they work!!The salesman did a great sales job and the system looked very good. What they didn't mention is that my AT&T speed was not good enough to handle the cameras. My outside camera kept going out. After several Technician visits Vivint sent me a "Geek" Technician to look into it. Very knowledgeable individual but his ability to communicate well was, well, not there. His fix, get AT&T Fiber Optic cable and that would solve the problem. Sooooo! We got Fiber Optic Cable and guess what? It didn't work! Cameras still down. Nice job! Called Vivint and talked to a young lady at Vivint who, for the sum of $4.95 would sent me one of their "magic" boxes that we could attach to the system and "Viola", problem solved. We will see once I get their "box". More to come later. I should have gone to Costco and purchased their security system. What a pain! Do not get a Vivint System! Very disappointed! Disgusting service!!! Many ongoing issues within the first 4 months. The app not working, issues with the battery's dying or exploding, doors not locking or unlocking. We had a faulty lock and the tech said it's fixed when he come out... 6 weeks later I'm stuck outside on my mobility scooter all alone as my door lock won't open. They told me (after I told them I'm currently in a scooter) that i should try a window to climb in and there's nothing they can do as it's the lock part so I'd have to pay for a lock smith!!!! I can't understand why it's my problem not theirs?!? They lock won't open doesn't make a noise and doesn't beep the way it should!!! To make things worse when I'm trying to cancel they said I have to BUY this faulty equipment !!!!!! Disgusting company!!!! Do not let them trick you into it! I was recently notified by a collection agency that my account with Vivint was sold to them and they wanted to collect the money I owed Vivint. I have never purchased anything from Vivint. I reported this to my local police and received an identity theft report and also reported it to the FTC. How can a security company allow identity theft to occur within their sales department? You would think a security service would be able to identify a fraudulent purchase from an individual who lives three states away from the location the purchase was made. read more

I ended up deciding to cancel my service because my living situation changed, and I had to reiterate my request several times before the phone agent agreed to cancel the service. While the phone reps themselves are generally pleasant, the company itself is not. I was told when the system was sold to me that there were no contracts. When I cancelled I not only had to pay off the loan but I had to buy out the contract I didn't have. I later learned they went from no contracts to contracts between the time I signed up and the time I cancelled, but they didn't care and took my money anyway. When I told the phone agent my equipment was collected by the tech who came out to uninstall it when I moved, she repeated several times that this was "not proper protocol" and that "a technician should never do that," as if I were in control of the technician's actions. To cancel I had to pay off the loan and then call Vivint back to confirm it was paid off, and provide them with a confirmation number. Then I had to email them a letter of request to cancel. On top of that, Vivint does not send confirmation emails or letters so the only way you know they processed the cancellation is if you call them back, or if you see them continue to draft your account/card. I will never do business with this company again nor will I recommend anyone bother with Vivint. I did not feel valued, I felt lied to and ripped off. read more

Not only do they have a poor customer service line, what's worse is they have sub-par products. Their products are not compatible with new technology and when failures occur in their devices they basically tell you your out of luck. Not only am I know paying for equipment that is useless to but I know have to go out and shop for a replacement. Please steer clear of this company. Terrible company! I've been dealing with their crap for 5 years. They are terrible at giving you multiple different answers. Talk to three people, get three different answers. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! I've moved twice during this and each time was such a headache. They lied about what happens when you move and overcharged me for MONTHS for equipment I didn't have, they also left my contact information on the alarm system at my old house. The new buyers cut the wires and Vivint tried to blame it on me and charge me for two systems. The first customer service rep I talked to before I moved said I could just leave the system with the house and I would be out of the contract. Next rep said I had to leave the system but, my contract still continued and I had to have all new equipment installed at my next home. I was moving from a house into an apartment and didn't need the system at all (my fault for signing a contract). Third rep I talked to said I could downgrade my equipment package and lower my bill. I ended up with less equipment but, they still charged me the same amount each month, over $75 for a control panel and indoor camera. That's it! At my house I also had a doorbell camera and driveway camera. Two less cameras, same price, makes perfect sense. I've been using the instant chat for the last couple of months, knowing my contract is about to expire. So I would check in and see how long I have left and let them know I'm getting ready to cancel. The last thing I was told was that my contract expires tomorrow, June 12th, I messaged again today to confirm and the first rep tells me my contract has been expired, I'm on month to month but, couldn't tell me a date of when it expired. I wanted to know how much my monthly bill will decrease now that the equipment is paid off, they couldn't answer that over chat, said I had to call. I ended that chat and started a new one. Next person was able to tell me my bill would go from $67 down to $63. WOW! What a steal! (NOT!!). I say I want to cancel, suddenly she can't help either and I have to call. I call and ask how much my bill will go down. Third person so of course, third different answer, your bill doesn't go down automatically, you have to call to get it reduced. He offered me an additional 12 month contract for $39/month. No thanks, I would like to cancel! "Well, you have to give 12 days notice and I'll send you an email that you have to fill out and return." I receive the email and there's no form to fill out, just says "Your account cancellation is incomplete. Your account will be processed for cancellation 30 days after this notice is received. You will be charged a pro-rated amount during this 30-day period." I wish they would have told me about this notice period two months ago when I first asked about cancellation. Update: A few days later on the 15th, I received another email from their customer loyalty department offering to take my bill down to $29/month with no contract. I've never been so frustrated before by a company hiding their pricing. read more

Can I give a zero? Had the system 1 1/2 years. Problems started the first week. Thermostats have been replaced 4 times. Cameras have gone offline a couple of times, and having to get a tech out this week. Equipment is cheap and shoddy. Online/call-in support is 100% worthless -- people reading from screens. The home techs are actually pretty good. Oh -- one of the techs told me they not only recycle refurbished equipment (which they pass as new), they are told to use those first. At first the equipment was great. But then I started getting false alerts that my garage door was open. Three times when that happened I was hours away from home on the road and had to turn around just to see that nothing was open. I now have no confidence in the system and rarely rely on it but am still stuck with a contract. I have had other issues as well, and every time the solution is installing an additional device. I've tried to get out of the contract stating that I do not trust the system but every time it is " oh you just need to install this..." yet there is always an additional issue. I bought a complete Vivint home security system through Best Buy around 2015 and was told I would never be charged a monthly service fee. In 2019 they started billing me and when I contacted them they said the no longer work with Best Buy and if I wanted to use my equipment I would have to start paying 19.95 a month. I told them I no longer wanted the service. One year later they started billing me again and when I called they said no you agreed to a one year deferral agreement and I am now in another contract for a year. I said I was never in a contract so why would I defer. In the end I had to pay for another year of service just to cancel. This company has very shady sales and billing practices. read more

I changed from a company that I was not satisfied with to Vivint three years ago and now I find out the sales person was not honest. The equipment is ridiculously expensive. One person said I have a $519 balance on the equipment and another said over $1000 to cancel my service. When I threatened to call the FCC and the FTC and file complaints he said the balance was $535. The app is very slow in loading the live camera, so to respond to an unwanted guess is delayed. One time I had sinus surgery and they repeatedly banged on the door and rNg the doorbell over and over. I ignored it and they came back several hours later. I rarely put comments on yelp But here you go... I have had my Vivint alarm for almost a year now. I did get periodic issues that were resolved. The down side is you become too dependent on this system to lock and unlock garage door/ front door. When the system is down you are virtually locked out of your house unless you happen to have a key handy. I was promised a repair person will be in on Wednesday between 4-8.... I had to take off from work and cancel plans for this. No show. Called twice to get update on serviceman whereabouts. I was put on hold for 45 mins combined times. They could only offer a reschedule. I will be cancelling and installing a simpler system. Hopefully a system that can do the same as far as monitoring without the 50$ plus per month fee. These are my 2 bits and good lock. I did want to add that I left this same review on their FB page 3 times and each time they deleted if it. They also blocked me from leaving it again. Can't take the heat get out the kitchen. I have figured out why you only get 3 days to cancel. The customer service is horrible and service doesn't work half the time. I have tried for several days to get my cancellation time extended to 30 days and never hear back after being told I would on several occasions. You don't want me to have 30 days because you know your system won't perform and I'll cancel anyways. Techs will be here to get the equipment today and my cancellation was sent on Sunday. Now to tell EVERYONE about your company. So I did want to share my experience with Vivint. On Thursday they came to install my system. That day I realized they forgot a window sensor. Same day my alarm went offline waited on hold for 13 mins until I resolved the issue myself. Next day Friday system went offline again. App was working intermittently. Called and waited on hold for 7 mins to have her tell me she would send someone out on Tuesday. (My last day to cancel) advised supervisor would call me within 24 hours. Now Saturday system goes offline and I am not home nor do I have time to sit on hold..so system down for hours while I am out and about. Finally I call to cancel because I only have 3 days to trial the system. Wait for 18 mins and finally speak to someone who advised they could start my cancellation time frame in Tuesday after a tech comes. I requested 3o days to trial since I've had so many issue. Can't do so I ask to cancel. Advised after that 35 min call I have to email the team to cancel. Sunday system seemed to work fine. Monday need to get my email address associated with the account and I can't get into two website. Tried two browsers and asked my husband to try and he is at work and nope website not working. Cancellation sent from Email address after finally getting someone on chat. I must say I'm disappointed. I really like the door bell camera and the outside camera and the touch pad. It's all wonderful equipment but it's no good if the system and customer service are bad. We would have had a 4 year contract at $70/month and who knows if it would have worked. read more

DO NOT TRUST VIVINT. I had a technician scheduled since last week to come to my home from 12-4pm for a driveway camera not operating. I received no call, so I followed up at 345pm to check on status, call center rep said ticket still open and I should hear from them. Let time pass heard nothing. I called again at 630pm 2 hours after my scheduled time, and the call center rep said that the technician notated that they had called me and I stated that services weren't needed and to cancel...... I never received a phone call and spoke to no one, after I took off work to be available instead of making it a priority to carry over Vivint rep says they can reschedule to later in the week after I already had time taken out and my camera is still in operable. Terrible customer service. I had guardian and ADT both had better overall customer service. I would go with anyone else but vivint for security needs. read more

I put in the security system because my house got rob but before signing anything I made sure they knew it was a rental and I'd be leaving in three months and will be in between houses until husband finds a job. I have the same experience as others. Installation incomplete, finally came back to finish the installation. Then doorbell camera off line. Technician sent. Said it was installed incorrectly. Door lock died while out of town with dog sitter locked out. Their solution call a locksmith. While talking with them about the situation we were told their was a low battery warning. Come to find out when door locked - it flashes red indicating the door is locked. You test the battery by unlocking the door and look for green flash. It will flash yellow when battery getting low... Who knew? I could go on and on. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I regret ever changing to this company!!! Don't sign ANY CONTRACT with them. read more

Vivint is an awful Company!!!!! I started with them when they moved into San Antonio. I got a thermostat and panel that was an alarm. Thermostat had a mind of its own (I called them several times with no help) panel kept dropping my phone. 3 1/2 months ago I received an up date. The first thing That happened was, they billed my Husband through Fortiva (a credit card company). I called both company's and explained that he had nothing to do with my account, I'm not sure if that's fixed yet. Vivint took $749.01 out of my account. Again so many calls to Vivint again. I still don't have my money. Now, not only Vivint takes money from my account, Fortiva does it too. I have called them so many times. The last person that I spoke with told me they can't pay it out. I have cried every time I get off the phone with them. The Contract went through the fraud unit and Told me I was right. That review was in the beginning And the last call I made to them, they told me they had to send it to fraud. I gave up!!! I'm back!!!!!!! read more

Doesn't even deserve 1 star. I had a new security system installed in my home. Over $3,000 of equipment. This was done in February 2017. I have had nothing but issues with it since. I have had technicians out 11 if not more times and another that cant come out for another 2 weeks. I call in and they waste much of my time troubleshooting before they decide to schedule an appointment . I do not have the time for this. the doorbell camera still does not work. Our home has been vandalized on a regular basis they have come to my door and even egged the front door . And the doorbell camera does not record. They have terrible customer service and cannot keep this fixed it may work a few days and then it stops for weeks on end until I have time to call it in again. I have called and called. They are supposed to be protecting my home and I am paying them to do that... all I want is my contract cancelled so I can find a company that works. They already took a year-and-a-half of my money for a system that does not work. I don't want back what I put into it they can have that I just want them to tear the contract and let me move on to a company that can protect my home. read more

I am absolutely disappointed and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. First of all they failed to tell me about the annual fee I have to pay in order to have the system in my home. Second they lied about being able to cancel when I wanted. The guy told me that if we ever wanted to cancel that the system stayed with the house and that we were signing the contract agreeing to have the sign displayed in front of the house for 5 years. He never said NO YOU CAN NOT CANCEL NO MATTER WHAT. That man approached us with a "great deal" because we were in a great location for them to display their signs. And if we let them put their signs up on our front yard that we would also get all the bells and whistles just for letting them do that. Never again!!! The shortest security service ever have ever used. We bought a house that had Vivint already in the house and all we needed was to have it activated and put three sensor put on three doors. The first guy came looked at everything said it looked good and will get a tec out to install the sensor and program the main frame box. We were told we will just pay 43.00 amonth with tax. So the Tec gets here and say's I am going to install a newer box and doorbell, Because he was having prob programming it or didn't want to deal with the older box. We asked him is this going to cost us, cause we are okay with the older stuff. He said NO! We asked him several times. Always no! Not even 6 hours later my husband checks his credit card and charged us 608.00 for the new stuff. So I called customer service and the manager said we have to pay for it. I was like hell no! You can have Josh come put my old system back and cancel my service! She then said well we can, but you will have to pay for your old system. WTF! I lost it!!! How are you going to make me pay for shit you took out of my house and we never asked you to!Asked for a Supervisor that can help me. After chewing his ear off. He said he will refund us in two weeks when the tec comes out to install the old box and doorbell. Don't let them fool you. Maybe there service is better than there liers. Idk I haven't had there service long enough to know. I can only say that the first guy Luke Wren was awesome. He was on time and told us what we needed and checked our system Let us know we were good even tho we didn't have the new system that came out last month. Pretty sad. We were all excited about the new service. So we will see if the tec comes out on 25th to put old system back and we get our refund. Sounds like the bank needs to get involved. Fraud! They are TERRIBLE! We have had this system for about a year. The front door camera has worked for MAYBE 2 months of the 12.. every time it goes down we have to get someone out here to try fix it, it works for 2 weeks & does again. The thermostat does NOT work- ever since we had it installed we had issues with our house cooling.., we have to put it down to 65 just to get it to cool. When I went to cancel they still tried to tell me I had to pay off the loan for their equipment bc I own it. Why am I paying for a product I am not receiving??? I wish I had read other reviews before I signed up with them. I would highly discourage anyone working with them! read more

The salesperson from Vivint told us that they could do a takeover of our existing equipment in our house. He offered some extra equipment we did not have like an outdoor camera, hard drive for the videos and smoke detector. He told us if we do not like the service after the 3-day trial that we could cancel at any time, we would just keep paying off the equipment. Well a week after the technicians installed the security system the panel failed. 3 times total in a month where it could not detect the sensors in the house. After every failure it would take a week for the technician to come to the house. That means 3 weeks of an unprotected house. Finally got fed up and tried to cancel service. But the rep told us we must pay the full amount off in full and not in installments which was over a $1000. Plus, the equipment is rigged up where other security companies cannot take it over. So, we are stuck with expensive used decorations. When you see the orange shirt sales rep in Sam's Club or anywhere else you better run for it, run for it, run! read more
