This restaurant saved our night. Our prior reservation for 10 people did not go well. We wanted an Italian night, despite all the mishaps. They were able to seat our entire party of 10 immediately. The restaurant was full, but they still accommodated. Our server took some time, but understandably so. We all had the Almafi martini, I enjoyed it. Now let's get into the food. The bread, my gosh, to die for. We also ordered calamari for the table--- amazing. We loved the big portions. For my entree, I got the lobster pasta. We started with Focaccia which was really good, thick and fluffy with a crispy top. Our group then orders some pizzas and a chicken Marsala. Everything was fantastic, much higher quality than you'd expect from a theme park area. Pizzas had fantastic crusts and high quality toppings. The chicken marsala was rich and savory. I could have just eaten the sauce by itself. The prices were what you'd expect from a tourist area but I minded less because the food really stood up to the expense. This evening I decided to stop at VIVO and get some drinks as well as some food for dinner. I got here around 4:30 and it wasn't really busy but right now it is just starting to pick up and it's currently 5:37 PM. I got the minestrone soup for $12 a bowl and then I had a bread service as well along with my festival seasonal drink. My favorite spot to eat at VIVO is the bar you get an outstanding service and it is first come first serve. If you haven't been to VIVO, the ambience is upscale Italian restaurant to me. The bread was soft, with a nice crust. It came with butter, but family also dipped it in olive oil. For main course we ordered margarita pizza, linguine with clams, squid ink pasta with seafood, and chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Man, is this place popping right after park close. Not an empty table in sight. Unfortunately, we probably got the worst seat in the house right in the corner where ya get forgotten about. Service took quite a while. Understandable because of how busy it was, but when a worker is constantly passing by and not acknowledging you at all it kind of was becoming annoying. Food, however, was worth all the wait. You get free bread for the table and it was pretty good. My main dish was absolutely delicious! I got three meals out of that plate, it was that ginormous. As for the chicken alfredo, adding shrimp is the best idea considering the chicken was super dry. Should not have added it on for $10. I would have been better off with just the lettuce and croutons that came with it. Also the coke was not carbonated and I ended up switching it out for a can of Diet Coke because their machine seemingly was either out of CO2 or it was faulty. The server Alison was great. Helpful and attentive. On a side note my son had spaghetti and meatballs and tiramisu for dessert and loved it. So not all bad, but for a $29 salad the value was not there. We started off our meal with calamari. Thought it was actually pretty good, no complaints here. It was flavorful & perfectly crispy. For entrees, we got two orders of the chicken parmigiana & one linguine w/ clams. Hahahaha, I personally love when restaurants include pasta w/ chicken parm, so I thought the portion sizes here were pretty generous! My favorite was the linguine w/ clams (the dish I ordered). This tends to be my go-to dish whenever I go to an Italian restaurant. I loved that they actually gave me a decent amount of clams! More times than not, I find that when I order this dish, they only give me a few clams & I end up still being quite hungry after. This was not the case for this meal! Mangia, Mangia, Mangia! Within the last few weeks I had the opportunity to dine at this Universal CityWalk restaurant on two occasions and each outing was a culinary delight. My first foray was with fellow Yelper and All-Star Janice K. We initially were headed to another establishment but, because of a sudden thunderstorm we directed ourselves to Vivo instead...and I'm glad we did. The restaurant was packed so we grabbed the last two remaining seats at the bar area. I normally don't order alcoholic beverages, my drink of choice being a cold glass of chocolate milk but, I didn't stray too far as I ordered a Chocolate Martini...yumsters! Also, prior to our meal, we were served complimentary bread...oh, my! They say man/woman can't live on bread alone but, you could with Vivo's bread offering which was served warm with the perfect ratio of chewy exterior and soft, airy interior. My entree was the Chicken Ravioli which was stuffed with Ricotta. The dish had a little more heat than I was used to (Chili Oil was an ingredient) however, it was tasty nonetheless. My second outing was with my sister and relatives from New York. I was so impressed by my initial experience I wanted a second go around. This time I gave my guests the heads-up about the Vivo bread and after sampling they agreed it was first rate. The Trottole pasta entree was my choice at this gathering and though it was delicious, the Bucatini with Meatballs my New York relatives ordered was the BOMB! VIVO BREAD AND BUCATINI...I know what I'm having next time I'm at this restaurant! And I can't end without giving kudos to our server, Char. She was informative, friendly with a sense of humor. I went here last weekend for a group dinner in a private dining area and was very impressed. When we arrived, there were charcuterie plates & salads on the tables to get us started. Everything was super fresh and tasty. We were then able to choose from 4 or 5 different entrees which all sounded delicious. I went with the chicken piccata and my table mates went with lasagna. My dish was very good and a large portion! I was only able to eat one piece of chicken and took the rest to go. The tiramisu to finish off the meal was a perfect end note! My overall impression of this place is that it was fine. If you're at Universal and happen to be craving Italian food is it a good option? Yes. But it was pretty basic yet expensive. We enjoyed the food and service at Vivo. This is located in CityWalk. The food came out really fast which we appreciated. Menu is reasonably priced especially being located at Universal CityWalk. We asked him to bring us bread and he said they eliminated the sourdough that used to be served with a dinner Because people were taking advantage of it. They now offer a focaccia bread for $11. We ordered it. There were nine pieces, not even the size of a garlic roll. We ordered our entrées. Everyone agreed the pasta was overcooked. The chicken marsala had a pasta that was cooked in an oil not Marsala sauce it was flavorless. The chicken marsala itself was overcooked but delicious. I have always enjoyed this restaurant and visited many times prior to this. I was actually embarrassed that I talked so highly about this place to my family and it was obvious they didn't enjoy it either. When we left, the restaurant was still pretty empty, including the booths, not one was occupied. I will not return to this restaurant. Also the prices on the menu posted 5 days ago have increased which wouldn't be a problem if the portions were the same and the quality was maintained. Our server was amazing and truly went above and beyond! We started off with some delicious complimentary bread and butter. It was a little hard on the outside, but so soft on the inside! I ordered the trottole pasta as my entree. It was delicious! One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. I loved the meatballs, broccolini, and the oven dried tomatoes added the perfect kick of flavor. I stopped by at Vino Italian Kitchen at Universal City walk before. Show t the Hard Rock. Despite not having a long wait, I would suggest you make a reservation to dine there. Also make sure you request to be seated at a booth or a table IF that is your preference, otherwise you will end up at a high top table. The service Friday night was little bit slow but our servers were amazing and made sure we were taken care of. I was in the mood for pizza so I ordered the Wild Mushroom & Truffle pizza. It had everything you could ask for; arugula, wild mushrooms, truffle burrata and mozzarella cheese. The pizza was delicious and is big enough to share.
