All in all it was worth the long line even in the sun. The espresso is strong and even though there's ice cream in it, it doesn't cut the strong flavor. Delicious and refreshing.
This place has a long line outside even before noontime. They have two entrances to serve this special drinks. The dedicated counter offers more variety of ice creams. My wife found this information on YouTube and we tracked down the store after fishing the walking tour of the city. She absolutely loves it!
I got very lucky and there was a very short line when I visited (around 5pm on a thursday). They close around 6 so that is maybe why there was no one. If the espresso bar side is closed, you can go to the gelato side and they have the pistachio and orignal there as well. The full menu is only available at the espresso bar. I ordered the hazelnut and it was delicious. I still dream of this affogato. Smooth, rich, perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. I do think this is worth a stop if you are in Florence.
Was so lucky to pass by this place and notice a lot ladies outside photographing and talking about it. Apparently it's tik tok famous for affogato! I had not had a chance to order an affogato since I arrived in Italy. I was always ordering espresso everywhere. Of course I jet inside to the quick moving line, maybe 10 people... and ordered the pistacio affogato not regular. To my surprise it was a scoop of pistacio gelato with coffee poured in the middle. Topped with a pistacio nut rim. It was amazing and so flavorful. I could have drank 10 more. I hadn't walked Florence since I mostly did day trips so I had just one. I will remember it forever, dream about it and added to my blessed and grateful list! This is a must visit place in Florence. The decor inside is pretty and they have pastries and sandwiches too Ciao Bella!
Decided to give this popular social media trend a try. It was insanely busy with multiple lines just from a social media post. Great that their business is doing well. In terms of the affogato, it's not worth the long lines. Tasted fine for the average coffee or gelato person. But if you like your coffee bold with deep characteristics, you might be disappointed as the massive rush tends to dilute the coffee draw by the barista. Espressos are not as rich. In addition, don't think their beans are of quality either. Collectively, it tasted fine as a combo, just not worth the heat, wait, and crowd. If you enjoy a lively pool of people with concert like ambience, this might be up your alley along with social media posting. Lower that expectation and you'll enjoy the vibe. FYI, they do not serve you through the window. You can do it yourself but that's putting you on the spot on why you are there.
Had to go here because my wife wanted to go try their viral Affogato. Worth it! Espresso on ice cream works so well in the heat. Very fast service. Long line, but went pretty fast.
Was worth the wait - and for what it's worth - only took 15 minutes on a Saturday even though the line may look intimidating. There are actually two lines / stores - one with all the options on the right and one with original and pistachio options on the left. Order on the machine if you are going into the multi-option store and present your ticket. Lots of options - we got the salted caramel and original (creme) and they were so good. Such an amazing combo with the espresso!
AMAZING. not only was the affogato to die for, the gelato itself was perfection. The girls at the counter were so sweet and worked efficiently considering they're serving nonstop. The place itself gives Italy vibes. The entire experience was great, the line was long, but moved quick. If you're ordering an original affogato or the pistachio one, you can go into the gelato area and order it there instead of waiting in the line.
Our second time here. The first experience wasn't too bad of a wait as we enjoyed our espresso and coffee gelato after a late lunch in Florence. This last dine-in two years after, the wait was longer as Vivoli was now internet famous for their Affogato al Caffè. This is considered a must-try, as it has creamy vanilla or pistachio gelato "drowned" in a shot of freshly brewed Italian espresso. I highly suggest consuming this dessert by alternating bites of gelato with sips of espresso, rather than mixing it. We were able to find inside seating both times but be prepared to enjoy your frozen treats and hot beverages in the plaza of the Greek Catholic church across the street.
Absolutely a must try when in Italy!! We went here one day during our trip and the wait was actually pretty short surprisingly! We got the original and the pistachio version. Both were absolutely amazing! We would definitely go back again and recommend it to anyone in the area!
November 6, 2024 3PM We have been super lucky in our entire Italy trip that everywhere we went, we got in just in time where there is a lull. This was the case for Vivoli Gelato. There might have been 3 customers before us and we got right in, and shortly after the line is out the door along the sidewalk again. This is a place of must-try on everyone's Florence list and it did not disappoint. We read everywhere that adding the extra money for pistachios is not really worth it. I'm also a plain vanilla girl, so I think the pairing of plain gelato with espresso sounds a lot better than adding nuts to my coffee. Line moves fast, so don't let it deter you. Gotta get the obligatory wine window shot with my affogato. This is definitely worth the visit and the wait, but thankfully the wait was not needed for my partner and I, we're so lucky!
I found Vivoli on TikTok while researching my trip to Florence, it absolutely lived up to the buzz. This is a must-visit if you're in the city. The line was very long and honestly scared my friends away, but I decided to wait it out and I'm so glad I did. Vivoli is famous for their affogato, with the option of vanilla or pistachio gelato. I went with the pistachio and it was incredible! Rich, creamy, perfectly nutty, and paired so well with the hot espresso poured on top. Yes, the line is long, but it moves fairly quickly and is 100% worth the wait.
Came here for an early afternoon caffeine kick and sure, this place became very popular so I also wanted to see if this place was worth the hype. And surely, it absolutely was! I prefer to travel in the off-season for the reason of not having crowds and fortunately enough, I was only second in line when I arrived and only a slow trickle of people that followed behind. (I hear lines can be pretty long). I opted for the Pistachio Affogato which was soooo delicious! I really wanted to try classic cream but given how wired I was after my first, I figured there will be another opportunity to come back again. The gelato was creamy, subtly sweet, with delicious warm espresso and topped with the crunchy pistachio bits...glorious. They have indoor seating as well as other baked goods and various gelato flavors. All so enticing and encouraging to come back again to Florence!
The affogato is famous for a reason: it is not only pretty as hell but also delicious. Honestly it is just espresso, pistachio gelato topped with pistachio nuts which you could easily make at home but who cares! The lines are LONG but move relatively quickly. We were in the line for 20 mins or so before we could order which wasn't bad at all. You can take a seat inside if available or take the ceramic cup outside to drink which is a great model in my opinion because it keeps the lines moving and they get lots of customers that way. There is a church right across the street and you could finish your affogato there while people watching. P.S. There is a non functional wine window that you could use as a photo op for your coffee. read more

Absolutely worth the hype. The espresso was delicious and paired so well with the gelato. We ordered two to share and we devoured them. We came within the first hour so the line wasn't too long and we had our affogatos quickly. The drink was so creamy and so yummy. Would love to come back again. read more

Typically I do not like coffee or espresso, but love gelato & heard how famous Vivoli is for their affogato so I gave it a try.. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! Although the line was long, it went by pretty fast since you order at a kiosk & pick it up at the counter. My boyfriend & I split one, but we wished we would've gotten 2 because it was so good! There isn't really a place to sit down, but you can just sit on the steps outside.. Definitely coming back my next time in Florence. read more
Vivoli Gelato is worth the buzz! We initially stopped by earlier in the day, but the line was wrapped around the block, so we decided to come back at night. Although the main gelato shop was closed by then, we were pointed to a small storefront next door where they were serving vanilla and pistachio affogatos. And honestly? It was incredible. The pistachio gelato was one of the best we've ever had super creamy, flavorful, and absolutely perfect with the espresso. Even with the limited menu, the quality and taste were amazing. Next time, we'll aim to come earlier for the full flavor lineup but what we had was so good, it still made the visit totally worthwhile. read more

While in Florence for vacation, we kept seeing Vivoli for recommended places to try. It's definitely vital for a reason! This was the best affogato we've ever had. From the delicious poured latte, to the tasty gelato with pistachios topped on top, everything was so good. There's always a line outside of the shop but it's definitely worth the wait! read more

Admit it: you've seen the Tiktoks of the affogato and want to know if it's REALLY that good. Spoiler alert: it is! We came here early Tuesday morning before making our way to the train station for our next stop. Even at 8am, there was a small line out the door. However, it moved fast, and yes, you can order the famous affogato in the morning! It was absolutely delicious. Taking bites of gelato dipped in espresso is heaven, especially when you get to the bottom and the espresso has gotten a little icy. We also had two chocolate croissants. Not the best we had, but they were good. This actually is a place that is worth the hype! read more
After being disappointed by a viral sandwich shop the day before, we were a little hesitant about trying Vivoli, but it totally lived up to the hype. We decided to go right when they opened at 8am thinking a) there won't be a line and b) affogato counts as breakfast because there is coffee in it. Well joke was on us because there was already a line formed when we arrived on Friday morning at 8:05am. Once they opened the doors the line moved quickly and we were elbow deep in caffeine and gelato by 8:20am. There is a small seating area in the back but that filled up pretty much right away so we enjoyed our affogato while standing outside. Vivoli is definitely a tourist spot, but it's one you won't want to miss out on. We went before dinner because we happened to be in the area. As expected, the line for Vivoli wrapped around the corner, but the line moves quickly. There are two options for the affogatto: vanilla and pistachio gelato. The affogatto was pretty good. There is some indoor seating and the space looks very cozy, but in my opinion, it isn't worth waiting for a seat. read more

Amazing! The first bite all the way to the last was heaven. The ratio of gelato to espresso was just the right amount. Got the original and pistachio affogato and both did not disappoint. Line was a little out the door around 9am, but it moved fast. You order then wait to give your receipt to the barista. There was seating inside and benches outside. Highly recommend. read more
Is it worth the hype and wait? Yes. I tried the pistachio gelato + espresso and the hazelnut + espresso. The pistachio was out of this world..we went multiple times. The line wait is not too long and it moves quickly. I want to say that both entrances offer the gelato+espresso while one entrance sells the gelato + espresso dish exclusively. Walked 25 minutes to get to this place and I'm so glad I did. The line was long, but it moved pretty fast and it was definitely worth the wait. I had the pistachio affogato, and it was absolutely amazinn flavorful, and the espresso poured over the gelato made for the perfect treat. Over the summer we saw "Somebody Feed Phil" at Radio City Music Hall. The question was asked: Of all the places you've been, what was the best thing you ate? Answer: Vivoli. Of all the places I've been, Vivoli was the best because of the fresh ingredients and the method of how they make their gelato. Phil? I'm goin' to Firenze! It actually wasn't like that, we had our vacation planned far in advance. It was nice to know that now we can plan to make a stop at Vivoli. I heard this place has gone viral and they'll be long wait times. (There wasn't) Walking in, it wasn't what I expected. I'm from New York and we have beautiful gelato places, Amorino gelato would be a great example. The interior is decorated with marble tables, very European. In Vivoli Firenze, I wasn't impressed. I was able to walk in and go to the register to pay. Once we paid, I walked over to the gelato case. Now this is one shot deal. I may never come back to this area so my gelato flavor choices needs to be solid. The four of us ordered and what was given to us wasn't anything fancy. The dining area, also, nothing fancy. Just a few tables. No marble anything. But then I took a bite. The creamiest gelato was served to me. The chocolate hazelnut gelato was made with a dark, rich chocolate. Sooo creamy, sooo dreamy, this really is next level gelato. If you look at my picture, there's no huge mounds of gelato in the case. Vivoli is serving the freshest product to the public. I wanted to go to Venice but I think I now need to come back for the affogato... read more

Ok, I get it now--Vivoli lives up to the hype. The affogato here is incredible, and honestly, it was the chilled cup that sealed the deal for me. That little detail made all the difference. The ice cream was perfectly creamy and cold, while the coffee was rich and piping hot. Together, it was just the right balance--a classic combination executed flawlessly. My wife, on the other hand, wasn't too thrilled with the panna cotta. The chocolate was a bit too rich for her, but honestly, I think it had more to do with the timing. It's hard to fully enjoy rich chocolate at 8 PM when it's 40 degrees outside. The affogato, though? That hit just right. Definitely worth a visit. We visited late in the evening, about 30 minutes before closing. There was still a line, but thankfully, it wasn't out the door. I'm not sure how I'd feel about waiting more than 30 minutes, but if you can avoid the peak times, it's absolutely worth it. Vivoli's reputation as one of Florence's best gelaterias is well-earned. No wonder it's all over Tik-Tok and Instagram and other social media. But as much as I love a well made dessert, I'd recommend timing your visit wisely to avoid the crowd, but either way, you'll be rewarded with a truly memorable dessert. read more
I tried the affogato here one morning and enjoyed it. It was sweet if you like that type of coffee in the morning. Quick service in January and easy to order, but it was more expensive than any coffee I've gotten here yet! I came back another night for gelato as it was close to a place I tried dinner and the service was worse. We did come in 5 minutes before closing which I understand is a close call but we were only getting gelato for take away so all she had to do was scoop them and send us off but she was quite rude. She forced us along to order our "ice cream" (her words not mine even though we know what gelato is as tourists...) and was rushed and unhappy. One of the best espressos I've had, and paired with the affogato made it absolutely divine to enjoy in the Florence heat. There's indoor seating for their customers looking to sit down for food, but not much outdoor seating for those who only order their affogato. The wait for their place is out of the door, but I'd personally say is worth it from how amazing the coffee and ice cream is. The ice cream is frozen into the cup and they add the espresso in after, which makes it a pretty cold drink if you mix it all up; for €6.5 the classic affogato is a bit steep but for the presentation and quality I would gladly pay it again! read more

Delicious, delicious affogato, only to be braved by the most patient and willing. I stopped by around 2pm on a weekday hoping to avoid a wait, but boy was I WRONG. The line was 25+ ppl deep, wrapping like a Shepard's crook from the entrance into the side alley. I quickly abandoned the plan and diverted my route. I tried my luck later that evening around 6:30pm. It had just stopped raining, and voila we were welcomed by no line and plenty of seating. They were out of hazelnut, so we got one regular affogato (6€) and one pistacho affogato (8€). Order/pay @ the counter, hand the slip to the barista, and wait for your drink. Once you're done, bus your cup to the counter. In and out within 20 min. Would I have waited 1.5 hrs in line for this...probably because I'm stubborn and a sucker for social media spots oops. The wait is understandably what it is since most people order the affogato, and that can't be taken to go. All in all, it's a very delicious (pricey) espresso x ice cream duo. Now when you order, you have to give your ticket to the people making the drinks or you will be skipped! I was influenced to come here by a TikTok, but it was worth it! The affogato was SO DELICIOUS! We tried the vanilla and the pistachio. I liked the vanilla better but they were both amazing. There was a very long line due to the popularity, so be prepared to wait. Also, you order and pay on a kiosk and then hand your receipt to the employees to make the affogato. The employees were super nice and friendly even with the long line of people they had to serve. I had another affogato elsewhere in Florence that was good, but not as good as Vivoli, which reinforced that this place really is worth the wait! read more

We've been coming here since I found it in a guidebook in the pre social media days. It has gotten overrun with influencers and people hearing about it online. The gelato and affogato are delicious regardless of the hype. Expect a wait, but tip is to go to the regular line, not the affogato window. You can order affogato and gelato at register. Vivoli is definitely worth the hype! I'm usually wary of places that are super popular on tiktok, but the pistachio affogato is well worth waiting in line. They have a pretty good system where if you are ordering the infamous affogato, you wait in a separate line from the gelato orders. The line moves pretty quickly and I waited less than 10 mins. Once you place your order, you're handed a ticket and can stand to the side near the counter. You can see the staff rimming the cup with gelato, then brewing the espresso into the cup. When it's ready the staff yells out whether it's the pistachio or cream affogato and you hand over the ticket. The visual presentation is fantastic and there is an outside area where you can sit on the curb and enjoy your treat. The gelato mixes so well with the espresso and I really loved the pistachio pieces rimming the glass. Delicious! read more

Well worth it! It was a 30 minute wait and once you're inside it goes by fast - they are super efficient! It was delicious! I enjoyed the Pistachio affogato but I heard the regular one was just as delish! Just know there is no seating area outside to enjoy apart from a couple of benches. Glad we made time for this! read more
Affogato at 11am, YES! A punchier, sweet, creamy, wake up call in Florence? I think not! This was the perfect boost for the 25k steps I did visiting all the sites in Florence and for my power climb up the Giotto Bell Tower. I've certainly have not had a more picturesque affogato ever in my life. Like most patrons, order at the counter, wait patiently for your order, and take your dream outside to enjoy. My advice, make a beeline line for Vivioli in the morning, the line is shorter and there's no bad time for this affogato. LOL! read more
