All in all it was worth the long line even in the sun. The espresso is strong and even though there's ice cream in it, it doesn't cut the strong flavor. Delicious and refreshing.
This place has a long line outside even before noontime. They have two entrances to serve this special drinks. The dedicated counter offers more variety of ice creams. My wife found this information on YouTube and we tracked down the store after fishing the walking tour of the city. She absolutely loves it!
I got very lucky and there was a very short line when I visited (around 5pm on a thursday). They close around 6 so that is maybe why there was no one. If the espresso bar side is closed, you can go to the gelato side and they have the pistachio and orignal there as well. The full menu is only available at the espresso bar. I ordered the hazelnut and it was delicious. I still dream of this affogato. Smooth, rich, perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. I do think this is worth a stop if you are in Florence.
Was so lucky to pass by this place and notice a lot ladies outside photographing and talking about it. Apparently it's tik tok famous for affogato! I had not had a chance to order an affogato since I arrived in Italy. I was always ordering espresso everywhere. Of course I jet inside to the quick moving line, maybe 10 people... and ordered the pistacio affogato not regular. To my surprise it was a scoop of pistacio gelato with coffee poured in the middle. Topped with a pistacio nut rim. It was amazing and so flavorful. I could have drank 10 more. I hadn't walked Florence since I mostly did day trips so I had just one. I will remember it forever, dream about it and added to my blessed and grateful list! This is a must visit place in Florence. The decor inside is pretty and they have pastries and sandwiches too Ciao Bella!
Decided to give this popular social media trend a try. It was insanely busy with multiple lines just from a social media post. Great that their business is doing well. In terms of the affogato, it's not worth the long lines. Tasted fine for the average coffee or gelato person. But if you like your coffee bold with deep characteristics, you might be disappointed as the massive rush tends to dilute the coffee draw by the barista. Espressos are not as rich. In addition, don't think their beans are of quality either. Collectively, it tasted fine as a combo, just not worth the heat, wait, and crowd. If you enjoy a lively pool of people with concert like ambience, this might be up your alley along with social media posting. Lower that expectation and you'll enjoy the vibe. FYI, they do not serve you through the window. You can do it yourself but that's putting you on the spot on why you are there.
Had to go here because my wife wanted to go try their viral Affogato. Worth it! Espresso on ice cream works so well in the heat. Very fast service. Long line, but went pretty fast.
Was worth the wait - and for what it's worth - only took 15 minutes on a Saturday even though the line may look intimidating. There are actually two lines / stores - one with all the options on the right and one with original and pistachio options on the left. Order on the machine if you are going into the multi-option store and present your ticket. Lots of options - we got the salted caramel and original (creme) and they were so good. Such an amazing combo with the espresso!
AMAZING. not only was the affogato to die for, the gelato itself was perfection. The girls at the counter were so sweet and worked efficiently considering they're serving nonstop. The place itself gives Italy vibes. The entire experience was great, the line was long, but moved quick. If you're ordering an original affogato or the pistachio one, you can go into the gelato area and order it there instead of waiting in the line.
Our second time here. The first experience wasn't too bad of a wait as we enjoyed our espresso and coffee gelato after a late lunch in Florence. This last dine-in two years after, the wait was longer as Vivoli was now internet famous for their Affogato al Caffè. This is considered a must-try, as it has creamy vanilla or pistachio gelato "drowned" in a shot of freshly brewed Italian espresso. I highly suggest consuming this dessert by alternating bites of gelato with sips of espresso, rather than mixing it. We were able to find inside seating both times but be prepared to enjoy your frozen treats and hot beverages in the plaza of the Greek Catholic church across the street.
Absolutely a must try when in Italy!! We went here one day during our trip and the wait was actually pretty short surprisingly! We got the original and the pistachio version. Both were absolutely amazing! We would definitely go back again and recommend it to anyone in the area!
November 6, 2024 3PM We have been super lucky in our entire Italy trip that everywhere we went, we got in just in time where there is a lull. This was the case for Vivoli Gelato. There might have been 3 customers before us and we got right in, and shortly after the line is out the door along the sidewalk again. This is a place of must-try on everyone's Florence list and it did not disappoint. We read everywhere that adding the extra money for pistachios is not really worth it. I'm also a plain vanilla girl, so I think the pairing of plain gelato with espresso sounds a lot better than adding nuts to my coffee. Line moves fast, so don't let it deter you. Gotta get the obligatory wine window shot with my affogato. This is definitely worth the visit and the wait, but thankfully the wait was not needed for my partner and I, we're so lucky!
I found Vivoli on TikTok while researching my trip to Florence, it absolutely lived up to the buzz. This is a must-visit if you're in the city. The line was very long and honestly scared my friends away, but I decided to wait it out and I'm so glad I did. Vivoli is famous for their affogato, with the option of vanilla or pistachio gelato. I went with the pistachio and it was incredible! Rich, creamy, perfectly nutty, and paired so well with the hot espresso poured on top. Yes, the line is long, but it moves fairly quickly and is 100% worth the wait.
Came here for an early afternoon caffeine kick and sure, this place became very popular so I also wanted to see if this place was worth the hype. And surely, it absolutely was! I prefer to travel in the off-season for the reason of not having crowds and fortunately enough, I was only second in line when I arrived and only a slow trickle of people that followed behind. (I hear lines can be pretty long). I opted for the Pistachio Affogato which was soooo delicious! I really wanted to try classic cream but given how wired I was after my first, I figured there will be another opportunity to come back again. The gelato was creamy, subtly sweet, with delicious warm espresso and topped with the crunchy pistachio bits...glorious. They have indoor seating as well as other baked goods and various gelato flavors. All so enticing and encouraging to come back again to Florence!
I found out about Vivoli from Somebody Feed Phil so when I booked a trip to Florence, I definitely wanted to make this one of my stops. We tried some of their gelato. We stopped by on a Friday just before 2 and it wasn't too crowded. Shortly after we ordered, there was a line out the door. They had a lot of flavors to choose from, which usually isn't a good sign because it means they don't make it fresh in house. But at least they all seemed natural (i.e. no weird blue-colored flavors). I can't even remember which flavors I got but I just remember them being too sweet. But, this works for the affogato, which they are best known for, and you will see everyone ordering one. The creaminess/sweetness of the gelato perfectly balances out the richness/bitterness of the espresso. I could have easily drank two of these but I would have been wired. Overall, I would say to order the affogato, and skip the gelato by itself. Tip - there's a wine window right next door, which didn't seem open. Just something to keep in mind if that's something you wanted to do while in Florence, because they're not as common as I thought they would be. read more
The original affogato was delicious!!! This is a must try! The affogato is a vanilla gelato topped with espresso. We only had the regular version but we saw several other customers with the one topped with pistachios. It looked yummy as well. There was a line out the door but it went really quick and the service was very good. Great place for those cute pictures and also enjoy a tasty treat! read more

Stopped in at around 9:30am on a Friday. A couple people in line but not busy at all. I wanted to try their infamous affogato. I got the pistachio affogato and it blew my mind. It is definitely worth the hype! The pistachio gelato is so so good and with that espresso it is perfect I can't wait for the next time I get to have one. The rest of my family opted for gelato and loved theirs as well. Definitely worth stopping in. It's fairly small inside, just a couple tables which we were able to get but otherwise there's a lot of hanging out outside to eat and drink. read more

This place is well known so of course we had to check it our for fear of missing out on something amazing (lol!) Walking up, there was a line down the street but it moved fast. My first pic of the long line was at 248PM and I had gelato in my hands by 305PM, so not too bad I think. The system is super easy and not confusing at all so don't worry about it. You wait in line to pay, choosing your size. There are no cones here, just cups. You pick a size, you pay for it, you get a receipt. If you order an affogato, you also get a receipt and you go right to the coffee bar. If you ordered gelato in a cup, you go left to the case filled with the different flavors, you give the person your receipt and pick your flavors. We did not order an affogato but our companions did and they paid first and they happened to walk out the moment we walked out with gelato so it doesn't take much longer. Super simple, not hard at all. There is minimal seating in the back, past the gelato case but we didn't actually see many people utilizing that area. Maybe one table was taken. However, outside was a mob of people taking photos and eating. This could have been because of the amazing weather too. As a pastry chef, I do get a bit snobby about ice cream, especially gelato because that's what we make at my workplace and it's my favorite kind of frozen treat after custard. I thought this gelato was bang on and had great flavors. It was served at the correct temperature, had great texture and I didn't see the tell tale too bright colors. The affogato here is incredible--the rich espresso blends perfectly with creamy gelato and caramel for a decadent treat. The shop has a classic, bustling Florentine vibe, full of energy and charm. The only downside is the wait in line (it's popular for a reason!), but once you get your order, it's absolutely worth it. read more

This place is known for their affogato. Outside you will find a line which goes quickly. I was able to try both the affogato and the crema/chocolate flavors of gelato. The affogato is definitely very delicious. The gelato is also very good, probably 4.5 stars on gelato and 5 star affogato. read more
The hype is real. We only tried their gelato and affogato and both are amazing. The prices are pretty much on par with other places. Lines are long but they move fast so don't be discouraged when you see the line out the door and into the street. Give this place a try. read more
Famous for their coffee, but specially their Affogato. It was absolutely delicious. It's a small place with limited seating but most people only stay for a short while. Well worth waiting for. This is one place you'll find the Affogato! Vanilla ice cream laced coffee. Yummm! read more

And yep, you have to get an affogato. I had no idea it went TikTok viral but it did for a reason. It was so good. One of my favorite affogatos I've had. Vivoli makes magic... magical affogatos! Before arriving in Florence, I was told by my best friend this was a must stop. Then, after having our first meal in Florence, our waiter told us to go and check out Vivoli's affogato. He claimed, "It's the BEST in the CITY!" So... of course... we found ourselves here! I'm happy to report: IT IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST IN THE CITY! MAYBE IN THE COUNTRY. ;D read more

This was one of my favorite places in Florence! I know it's a tik tok famous restaurant but it was worth the hype. 8 euros for an affagato, there was a long line for this but it moved quickly. Everyone was just sitting on the sidewalk enjoying Romance. Very very good. read more
This was my number one must do and visiting Florence thanks to social media and it did not disappoint. I had the affogato of course, and it was beyond delicious. Worth it all! You line up left door to pay at the cash register, and then pick up your purchases to the right hand side. There is very limited seating on the inside, so most people are hanging out on the street. We found a bench, enjoyed the crowd watching and our snack. Be sure you take a great picture with the wine window! read more
Heard about this spot on Instagram so was not at all surprised that it was quite busy. Though it looked like a long wait, the line moved quite quickly. We got the two feature affogato (pistachio and regular) and they were quite good. I'd say worth the short wait! The interior is also quite charming. The only downside to it being so busy was there weren't a ton of options for sitting and enjoying but there are some spots to sit outside as well. read more

Line was very long when we arrived but to my surprise it moved very fast. Service was great! They work fast and efficiently. The affogatos are a must try for sure! I got the original, which is vanilla ice cream and espresso, and it was to die for! I would go again for sure! Ambiance was nice too. This place was rec by someone who really has hit the mark on most recommendations... unfortunately this one missed the mark. The line was out the door and literally across the street. No big deal because good gelato places have a line and we are willing to wait... you first go inside to give your order to the cashier then give your ticket to the person scooping gelato. The lady scooping was not very kind and VERY stingy on scoop size. We have been to multiple different gelato places in Florence and Olbia, Sardinia... this one was my least favorite... kinda chaotic waiting then one line inside to the cashier overlaps the "who wants to order" non line for gelato... the scoops hit just the top of the cup- compared to other places where the gelato is heaping over the cup and you quickly lick and scoop it into your mouth so it doesn't melt in 98F... I choose the second smallest cup for 3 Euros and picked two flavors. The 'GIANDUIA' and 'TIRAMISU' choices were ok but nothing to the extent where I'd come back especially since the scoops for all four of us were stingy and small. Theres tons of other places that serve legit gelato (not the gelato mountains sitting in non metal containers with chemical bright colors) and won't be heading back here. We all agreed it wasn't worth the hype... and of all the gelato places this was the first one where my stomach ached afterwards... no thanks not coming back read more

Showed up and there were a thousand people. Luckily, it was just a tour group and they weren't in line. Got served quickly, sat on the bench outside and enjoyed our mid-morning snack and watched the wannabe influencers take pictures and video with the wine window. Vivoli is a must try read more

I've never felt this bad in Italy. I was waiting for my order, but many people who came after me received their coffee first. I was the only one who was ignored. When there was no one left waiting, it seemed they had forgotten my order, so I asked them to check again. Instead of apologizing, they laughed and said, "So what? There are too many customers." There are many comments about racis aside from my experience. The food isn't good enough to put up with that. Just go to a normal place without racism. read more
Favorite affogato experience I. All of Italy. It is a spot I would come back to or recommend to friends visiting Italy. It is not over rated and worth the wait in line (which moved quickly). The gelato was delicious and the mix of gelato with coffee was perfection and refreshing in the heat, one not overpowering the other. read more

Was here with a tour group to get gelato and it was delicious. Off the beaten path but quite a line. Went back on day 2 to get an Affagatto and it was amazingly Devine. Staff was quick and efficient. Not a lot of seating inside so you'll likely find yourself eating on the street. read more
Add this to the list of Artisanal gelato Places to try! Located in Firenze, this is a hidden gem. Vivoli is off the beaten path, and is another one of those places that is known to locals, and not necessarily frequented by tourist. This is how you know it's a great place! It's a rather large location that actually offers seating, which is not common for most gelato locations. All of the gelato is made in-house, and they have a fairly large kitchen where they truly make magic. The flavors that they offer are delicious. When you arrive, you immediately pay at the register, and they offer about five different sized cups with varying prices. We ordered the orange cream and amaretto in one cup, and the chocolate and orange cream in the 2nd cup. The amaretto was smooth and tasty, and married with the orange cream, was truly spectacular. The chocolate and orange was beyond delicious, and it was like having one of those holiday chocolates in the states that shaped like an orange that you break open, and it breaks into orange wedges. So, so simply delicious. We both found the staff at the gelato counter to not be overly friendly, but beyond that the gelato is absolutely worth the stop. Especially because it's hidden, or so it feels that way down a smaller street. The seating reminds me of one of those old fashion, ice cream parlors found in the states, where the seats are comfortable just long enough for you to enjoy your dessert, but not comfortable enough to make you want to sit there much longer than that. I will say, it was nice to be able to just sit and enjoy our desert, because that's not common in many of the dessert shops. Came here for the affogato only and it lived to its hype. Absolutely delicious. I tried numerous other spots all across Italy, and nothing comes close to the one at Vivoli. The combination of their A1 espresso and gelato is just fire. Do yourself a favor and wait the long line. It will be well worth it (hopefully). Ambiance: lively and fast paced read more
