House Favorite rolls & Volcanic Roll (tuna tartar on top)
    Cole T.

Absolutely delicious. It was my first time here and I have to say it won't be my last. The sushi was tasty and beautiful to look at. It was like I was eating artwork. The volcano roll was delicious with a great balance of texture and flavor. The fresh tuna tartare on top made the roll my favorite of the night. We also ordered the house specialties roll platter and it was more sushi than we could eat!!! (Hard to imagine for me) The rolls were affordably price for the size they were and the service was fantastic. My friend ordered a coke and he was able to get 4 refills throughout the night! Looking forward to coming back again.

I have been here a few times now and have to say I am not impressed. On more than one visit I have pulled inch long bones out of my salmon, or scales off my tuna, plus the amount of rice on the rolls leaves me disappointed. Also, my meal was lacking so many ingredients (yes, I understand the shortages!) I would have ordered differently if I just had known exactly what all would be missing in each item. It didn't seem like too much to ask to be informed ahead of time. Yes, overall the food looks pretty and is fresh, but I can't say I will be back any time soon.

The sushi was delish! The service was a little slow but the staff was friendly. We ended up ordering the candy cane roll as well and it was great! It's nice and clean inside and was a great spot for dinner

Very good sushi but on the pricey side. Two rolls, a shrimp tempura appetizer, one Pinot Grigio and one beer was $80. Add in a $30 tip divided between the waitress and sushi chef brought it to an amazingly expensive lunch.

We absolutely LOVE this place! We tried it once in Haile plantation but we didn't think it was worth the drive to head all the way to Haile for it but when they made a 2nd location and it was nearby us and BIGGER, we were overjoyed!!! It is by far one of our faves for sushi, ramen and my fave the teriyaki chicken bowl(volcanic plate)!!! I could literally have this everyday, chicken, veggies and teriyaki sauce(I skip the rice) Super filling and theeee best! The service is always great!

We had an server who made sure my mom could eat a certain sushi because of a dietary restriction. I got a lunch combo the #6 one and it had great variety. Tried their bao buns as well and they were delicious.

Volcanic chicken, white rice, hot tea.

We arrived later on a Saturday night craving hibachi and sushi, and it definitely hit the spot. I ordered the steak hibachi with fried rice, and my husband went with the lobster roll. My meal started with a cup of miso soup and if you follow our adventures you know I love miso. They did not disappoint. It was hot, flavorful, and tasted freshly made with good ingredients. For a drink I ordered a Long Drink. We first tried these at a local festival and fell in love, so when we saw a citrus flavor we had never tried before we were excited to order it. My hibachi came out hot and smelled amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce mixed into the rice was really good. I do wish they gave just a little extra sauce for the rice. The rice itself was a bit stiff, but the sauce helped a lot. We also came about an hour before closing, so we were not too bothered by that. Our waitress was good, and her coworker stepped in to help when she was busy, which we appreciated. I also liked that you can see the sushi chefs working right there, and my husband really enjoyed his roll. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms, which always matters. I also have to mention the water because it actually tasted good. If you know, you know how rare that can be. They also have plenty of parking, which makes things easy. Overall we had a great experience and it was the perfect spot for a much needed date night.

My only doubts were the strip mall location, but I think we now know better. Super friendly staff. Knowledgeable about the sushi, and ready to banter about travel plans and food safaris. Here are the highlights of our meal: Hamachi Kama. The deep fried yellow tail collar bone was tender as can be. Fresh and tasty. Hamachi sashimi side. Generous square hunks cut with sharp edges. You could tell it was fresh. O fishy taste. It just melted. I think they take care with their fish--even served on lacquered square plates. Fish styled Oyako don. Not the chicken and egg mother son combo, but a salmon sashimi and tobiko arrangement. Colorful and delish. Combo rolls from the sushi bar were gimmicky but fresh and filling. Why not... The soft shell crab was two small crabs cut and drop fried. We were surprised to see it here. Tasted fresh and good. If you've never had it check out videos of molting crabs. They take them right after the molt, before the soft skins hardens to new shell. Matcha cheesecake was very good flavor. Not your ordinary New York cheesecake but softer, allowing the slight bitterness of the green stuff to come through. Oh yeah, the tea was $4 per person. Usually my pet peeve. But it was served in a little tea pot with a floating infuser. And the quality of the ocha was good. Fragrant and worth it.

For the prices they're charging, you'd expect quality and portion sizes to match--neither did. The plates were small, and the food was mediocre at best. My wife ordered the Japanese curry rice, and the beef was so tough it was basically inedible. That's not a minor issue--that's the main component of the dish. I had the seared yuzu kosho steak, and it didn't feel freshly prepared. In fact, most of the food tasted like it had been reheated. At one point, it genuinely felt like the hardest working thing in the kitchen was the microwave. We also tried the edamame, which somehow managed to be the least offensive thing on the table hardly a compliment. At this price point, this just isn't acceptable. There are too many places doing it better to justify coming back.

The first night it was CRAZY busy. It's a smaller restaurant, and even though I was sitting at the bar, I had to wait a little because the kitchen was backed up. I honestly didn't mind because I figured that was probably a good sign that I picked the right place! I sat at the bar and was taken care of by Will. I overheard that he had literally just come from working his first job and was starting his second shift, and you never would've known it. He was on top of everything, taking care of his tables and everyone at the bar while still being friendly and attentive. He recommended the Lonely Angel roll, and it was a 10/10. I had it with miso soup and a glass of wine and left very happy with my choice. Well, I worked all day the next day and hadn't eaten, and I'm a creature of habit. If somewhere is good, I'm going back! I went back a little earlier this time, so it was much quieter, and to my surprise Will was behind the bar again. I got to talk with him a little more and he was super personable and genuinely enjoyable to chat with. He recommended a tuna tobachi and a Hokkaido roll, and somehow they were BOTH even better than what I had the night before. Seriously, 100/10. Great food, great service, and clearly consistent enough to get me there two days in a row. If I'm ever back in Gainesville, I will absolutely be back.
