Cruiser Phil's / Bike Maui / Haleakalā Ecotours has been guiding bike riders down this landmark…read morevolcano for almost as long as its last eruption some 400+ years ago! The ride up is fun with a quick visit to the National Park included to see the crater firsthand, followed by some fun pictures jumping out of the clouds! Ride with Kimo to learn how they get those pictures! The ride itself starts just outside the National Park (limited by newer regulations limiting tour rides in the park itself) to enjoy the switchbacks - a video is included below! Those turns are not difficult - so don't let that part dissuade you from taking the tour. Stop at the town of Makawao for lunch (Freshies had a good menu) and ride like bandits back to the shop as the lag van holds traffic back a bit to clear the roadway for you! The island is open for business, save some small parts around Lahaina itself still recovering from the devastating fires of 2023, with limited impact elsewhere on the island. Take this trip now while the crowds are a bit lighter too, you won't regret it at all as Maui is just beautiful! Ka'anapala just north of Lahaina is hopping!

Eddie did a thorough job of making sure everyone was safe and how to navigate the roads on the bike. While we still highly recommend this activity, there were a few things that fell a bit short. With such an early start, the drive seemed to move slow with a few slow rolling stops to point out deer or a landmark. Sadly, the morning glow started and we had not yet reached the summit. Ultimately we parked and had only a few minutes to use the bathroom and get in place to watch the sunrise then boom back in the van. So that was roughly 2 hours driving in the van for less than 30 minutes at the summit. It was very rushed. It would have been nice to gotten there about 20 minutes sooner to watch the glow start. Dress in layers. There was a quick photo op on the drive down but no stop at the visitors center. The bike ride down. It was convenient to be able to leave a bag in the van with the layers of clothes and jackets no longer needed. We enjoyed the self guided having the chance to stop at our leisure and take photos. It is definitely a braking ride and be smart to use them. The fact that the law prohibits biking through Kula meant we had to stop, load the bikes, get back on the van and jump over the town. That takes a away a significant chunk of the ride. A nice stop in Makawao for coffee and a bite to eat. Having done this ride before the law made for a disappointing comparison. I would recommend this activity, however I'm not likely to do it again until the change the law to ride through Kula and arrive to the summit a few minutes earlier.

This was a very cool trip!! We really didn't know what to expect as we had done our research as to…read morewhich company seemed to be the "right" one for us to descend from Haleakala. Maui Easy Riders was a SUPERB choice!! Booking with the owner Billy was great as he prepared me for our adventure over the phone. The morning of the excursion, we met our guides, Charlotte and Jon, who proved to be an absolute hoot! They alieved any anxiety and brought some great history lessons as we trekked up the mountain. My wife and I were celebrating our 38th wedding anniversary and the last time we were in Hawaii was for our honeymoon, 38 years prior. Charlotte and Jon made us feel special. Unlike many other companies, Maui Easy Riders only allows 6 people per session, so it was easy to get to know your fellow travelers and we became close friends in a very short time. They have a specially built cruiser bike that has a huge, extremely comfortable seat and and massive disc brakes for both wide tires. The ride is exceptional and you feel very much in control. There is no "push" for you to speed down the mountain, and until everyone was comfortable with their "sled", the downhill journey was held at your own pace. The van follows you down the mountain and runs interference for cars that might be coming up to pressure you. No worries or anxiety here. If you need anything at all, they came prepared to assist you: Rain gear, pants, windbreakers, snacks, water and Gatorade. At any time, you could have access to the stuff you might of brought in the van. We made several stops to take pictures and view the landscape and learn of areas to be aware of as they might be coming up. Charlotte was a great leader, guiding us with hand motions and instructions for our safety. She and Jon communicated with walkie-talkies to navigate the traffic and the care of the riders. We all shared some great stories as we learned all about the route and history of Maui. I can't recommend Maui Easy Riders enough. Their care and concern for your safety and adventurous spirit made our trip extremely enjoyable. The 6 of us riders enjoyed the journey so much, we all had lunch together, laughing and sharing more antics from the excursion. Don't pass up YOUR experience!! Thank you Charlotte and Jon for a WONDERFUL experience !!

Everyone in the tour parked their car in the town of Paia and were picked up by Billy and another individual (forgot his name) in the Maui Easy Rider van. Once we arrived at Haleakala, it was a bit chilly and misty (morning tour), so bring a jacket. You can store you personal items in the van, so don't worry about carrying a lot things. Billy took the time to ensure the helmet and bikes were a good match for our head size and body height. After going over the safety rules, Billy led the group with his own bike while the helper drove the van in the back blocking passing cars to create a safe ride for us. The ride itself was amazing. It was about a 25 mile bike ride ( ~2 hours), but it was really casual and smooth. It was mostly downhill so majority of the time was spent being in awe with the surrounding environment. We passed by ranches, farms, towns, and residential areas. You go at your own pace, so there's no pressure to go with the group. If you're desiring a fast and challenging ride, then you move up in the line. And if you're casual and want to take it slow, you can stay in the back. The van will always be in the back blocking cars, so you're safe. Just enjoy. We also made frequent breaks to rest and take photos. We took couple photos at scenic places and even took a photo with a chameleon. To summarize, this was one of the best way to experience this area of Maui. Highly, highly recommend Maui Easy Riders

This is definitely one of the top five for me when it comes of things to plan when going to Maui. It was such a memorable thing to see and it really felt magical. We came just right before sunrise. The drive is a bit intimidating, but once you're up there, it is worth it. We were well above the clouds and when the sun broke through the clouds, it felt like I could cry. Add this to your list of things to do when going to Maui!

Within the first three weeks of ownership, the bicycle became inoperable due to what we believe to be a manufacturing defect. We promptly returned the bicycle to your service department for warranty repair. At that time, we were informed that a replacement part had been ordered and would resolve the issue. We have since been advised that the part was ordered approximately five months ago. To date--six months after our initial purchase--the bicycle remains unrepaired and unusable. During this period, your company has failed to provide timely updates or proactive communication. We have been required to initiate all follow-up inquiries ourselves, and our repeated requests for resolution, including a refund, have not been adequately addressed. The prolonged delay in repair, lack of communication, and failure to provide a functional product constitute a substantial inconvenience and a failure to honor the warranty in a commercially reasonable timeframe. Our son has been deprived of the use of the bicycle for the vast majority of the time since purchase. Accordingly, we hereby formally demand a full refund of the purchase price. If this matter is not resolved promptly, we will consider pursuing all remedies available to us under applicable consumer protection and warranty laws. We trust that your company will act in good faith to resolve this matter without further delay.

Driving from the east side, there were one-way narrow roads over cliffs. Leaving from the west side was easy-peasy. Parking - Keep an eye out for a red sign that says 'Camp Maluhia'. First lot is overflow, keep driving past gates to main lot where trailhead is located. Hike from overflow parking lot to trailhead is about 1.2 miles each way. Hike incline - First 1/4 mile of asphalt was the steepest. Next mile was incline but not too bad. Last mile was steeper incline. Hike views - If you go on a cloudier sunny day like we did, there were AMAZING views up until the last 0.5 miles. The overlook at the very end was above clouds so we couldn't see anything. Shoes - I don't recommend wearing sandals or flip flops, because it is pretty rocky and steep. No large rock climbing. I got by wearing casual tennis shoes, but running/hiking shoes are best. There were no stream crossings, so no need to worry about feet getting wet.
