Volcom Skate Park is by far one of the best skateparks in Orange County as it has something for all levels of skaters as well as a super solid set up to get those radical Skate runs in on! They have a good sized bowl here that's banked just enough so you can get some serious speed to propel out to hit those awesome tricks! They have a few boxes, rails, and stair set up's as well each little area is set up perfect for maximum skating fun for all ages! One of the coolest parts of this park is how it was payed for by Volcom they funded the money to build it for the community who totally puts it to good use as there's always a good amount of skaters here every time I visit. Back when we used to skate parks regularly I would see Geoff Rowley here busting fat tricks and just shredding the park so it was always kinda cool to skate with the pros that do come here from time to time as the set up here is by far a good one and super fun to skate! Just remember to not come to the park Tuesdays before 3pm as they are closed until then for maintenance! You can only enjoy this place if you go before the stupid Shreducate school starts. These kids are rude and aren't being taught skate park etiquette. These guys are making $30k a month to run a camp in a public park. These cheapskates should pay for their own facility. Oh and a lot of people bring bikes and scooters here even though it clearly says they aren't allowed. And they sit around and mad dog everyone because they know they aren't supposed to be there. No one enforces the rules at this park. I wish Costa Mesa Parks and Rec would do something about this. read more

This where skateboarders both young and old come to practice and enjoy their beloved sport. The Costa Mesa (aka "Volcom", who originally partially funded the park with the city) Skate Park is FREE. A helmet and knee/elbow pads are required, but not enforced unless the police stop by; which is quite rare. Even at that, when the police do arrive, everyone rushes out and I've never seen anyone get cited. Surprisingly, although injuries obviously occur, I have yet to witness someone break a bone. Additionally, I've only had to drive myself to the hospital once so far! This park can get absolutely packed at night (closes at 9pm every day; lights turn on at dusk). However, if you want to see some amazing skateboarding, between 8 and 9pm is the time to come. This is when all the locals are pushing their hardest to land the latest tricks they've been working on before the lights start to shut off (around 8:45pm). The talent here is top notch. To really avoid the crowds, come early (before 11am) on the weekends. This is when a handful of young dads will be trying to teach their children to skate, and the pace is quite a bit slower. I've seen quite a few pros here, and some are locals. Nyjah Huston, Anthony Carney, and Ed Templeton are some of the recognizable talents that I've seen most frequently. The layout of this park is pretty good as far as allowing for a decent flow of traffic while still allowing for a lot of trick creativity. I really appreciate that my city offers a skatepark, and take advantage of it often. Nothing like this was available (especially for free) when I was a kid. read more

One of the best medium sized skate parks in the Orange County area. The park is very clean and well maintained. The street section is smooth, fast and is easy to navigate, almost like there are directional rules that everyone follows. The park layout allows all skater types and styles to skate together. The locals are fun and supportive to the newbies and younger crowd. It is safe to say that this park has a little of everything. A little street section, vert, tranny and a great mini kidney shaped bowl along with a nice old school style pool. There are several great spectator areas where the Moms & Dads can hang out and watch their kids skate. Drinking fountains, bleachers and grassy shaded areas make this one of the best skate parks in California. There is not very much about this park to complain about. The landing areas or staging areas are small, so when the park is busy you don't have very much room to rest and catch your breath. If you're not an aggressive skater you can very easily get snaked. It would be great if the city could knock out the rear gate and add 20 feet to the North end of the park. RYAN'S Recommendation If you live in the Orange County area and have not yet been to this skate park yet then you are missing out. If you are going to be in the area, I highly recommend this park. The Volcom Skate Park is worth the drive from anywhere in California. Add the Etnies Skate Park to your plans and you can very easily make a day trip out of the two parks. Very clean park with lots of practice areas. I agree with some of the reviews with regards to new skaters and very young ones. However, it's a free park (vs. Vans) and is safe and clean. Keep in mind that some Skate legends from the 80's and 90's come here to practice/coach young skaters. You might be in for nice show if you catch them. I take my teenager and his friends to this park very often. Once in a while you see some bad elements in the park, but they keep to themselves and don't start any trouble. read more

Great spot to skate at mostly for intermediated to advance and even for begginers! Be aware that this park isn't ment for scooters or BMX I don't have a problem with it but some people can get mad and if you're not up to that challenge don't go. I've been skating the park almost everyday for about 2 years. Best skatepark imo. It's free and no pads or helmet required. I have also skated vans hb and vans orange and this one is my favorite. They have a mini bowl and a big very bowl. They also have a launch ramp that people like to air off of. Really good flow too. Also skate lessons offered for new skaters. I am an old school skater. I just got back into skating a few years back because my kids were getting into it. I have been to Volcom in Costa Mesa. Bad thing is it is to tight. You have to watch out for the beginners they will cut in front of you any time. The pools are all right they have two. It is all concrete and really fun when it is not crowded but guess what it is almost always crowded. The kids had a blast one time they are learning and a couple times pissed off some advanced skaters so I had to exchange words. All in all I would go to Vans skate park in Orange way worth the money. The Volcom park is free. 80% of the kids that skate here don't wear helmets or pads and are trying to be rebelious but the Costa Mesa Police are all over this park and handing out tickets all day long. I wouldn't recommend this park I would either go to the Irvine park or Vans in Orange first. Parking is good it is built into a massive park with plenty of parking. It's free!!! This park is a great flow park and has great and clean ramps I just hate the people if you go in the later hours around 5 or 6 this is the time when the whole park is very crowded and filled with grumpy skaters that are negative to the younger kids and think they legally own the park this makes the park child unfriendly and scary for kids this makes it hard to just have a normal chill session at this park read more

Good park but the whole skate camp thing is very lame. One of the skate camp kids threw his board on the bowl while my son was skating. My son retrieved the board and the camp instructors had all 15 kids immediately throw their boards in the bowl. Didn't even say a word to us, where I come from you get slapped for pulling that crap. read more

I bring my gfriends 8 year old son here. There are several guys who offer skateboard lessons and I hooked him up with one. I highly reccomend utilizing one of them for your little one if they are a beginner. Come early as it gets more crowded and the age level rises as the morning ends. I don't skate, so all my skate park reviews reflect the perspective of a parent who spends a lot of time taking my nine year old to skate parks. Volcom is an unusually good skate park for kids. There's plenty for everyone here, but what makes it unlike other skate parks is a small bowl scaled perfectly for 8-10 year old skaters. Most skate parks do have smaller, easier places to practice, but a bowl like this is rare . The mini bowl at Volcom is essentially identical to a larger bowl, just scaled down, which means that kids can learn or practice drop ins, 50-50s, fakies, and so forth (that's what my kid tells me these moves are called, what do I know?), without having to take on a bowl scaled for someone two to three times their size. While this mini bowl was the highlight of the park for my kid, the rest of this medium size skate park is clean and fun. The landscaping provides pleasant, shaded spots to sit or stand outside the park with a good vantage point into the park, which of course is ideal for parents who don't skate. Nice tennis center next door, too. All in all, from the perspective of a parent of a non year old skater, this is the best skate park we've been to. Whoever designed this place really nailed it. read more

Great outdoor park! The pros are two bowls (one big and one little), lots of ramps and space. The negatives are that it can get crowded and the teenagers have lots of bad habits (I am a mother of young kids) like smoking, no helmets or pads, riding bikes in the park, etc. The Costa Mesa PD swings by regularly to ticket the kids though (well, really threaten the kids). I wish we had a park like this in Newport. read more

watch out for cops if your not wearing a helmet!! bunch of my friends have got multiple tickets, but thats just because they dont know how to run i guess, and you gotta watch out for little kids always getting in your way, i dont think children under the age of 6 speak english or any other language because if you tell them to move out of your way they will just stand there and look at you. and continue to not move. read more
