Fun skate park usually empty but today there were two other boys there. I think each one of them want their alone time and I skated for a while and left. And one advanced started doing his stuff and I was sitting under a tree watching . Then I came back an hour later to skate. But I fell twice the first time hard I walked it off. I was skating some more and hit something on the cement and fell again when I finished my shoulder, started getting sore darn. read more

This is a nice and beautiful park for nature walk, walking your dog and skate/scooter area for the kids or adults and baseball fields. Wear pants if you walk after sundown because little things will bite you. Early morning and after sun down is nice. It gets SUPER busy if there are baseball/softball games - which means no parking. However, plenty of parking when there's no games. It is a few minutes from Tustin Market Place and other shopping plaza. There are actually staff onsite during operating hours. Restroom is open. There's vending machine as well. Be careful - watch out for coyotes because Peter Canyon Trail is next to the park. read more

You can find Harvard community, athletic Park on the corner of Harvard and Walnut in Irvine. It sits right in between Culver and jamboree along Walnut Avenue. You can't miss it. I've been playing coed softball for quite a few years, and this place is like home. We have quite a few parking lots, but if you're playing coed, typically they're on Fields 5 and 7, which are right next to the restrooms. Although the league fees are quite pricey, I feel that you get what you pay for. All the umps here are pretty fair and awesome. What I like about playing softball in the City of Irvine is that they maintain all their fields pretty well. The only bummer is they close for the summer to redo the grass fields. Guess it's good to have a break. :) This place is also good for getting your steps in as the sidewalk pathways go in and out around the whole park. it's pretty well lit so if you have a dog and hate walking in the neighborhood in the dark, you can come here and feel safe as the evening games are going. There's plenty of water stations with bottle filling, drinking fountain and a lower water bowl for your pups. All in all, this is a great community park. read more

A very large park indeeeeed!. The Harvard Skate Park is located near the corner of Walnut & Harvard. There are 7 softball fields, 1 regulation soccer field & 2 smaller soccer fields. TWO of the fields house TWO softball fields where the outfields are back-to-back. Plenty of paths to walk around. HUGE Park!!!!! Parking can be a pain if there are tournaments. There are 2 access points on Harvard for the fields. Poplar St. stop is one, while the other is a 1-way entrance coming from Walnut Ave, as there is a double-yellow no left turn before Walnut. SO, enter on Poplar St. The SKATE park is located next to the Poplar St. parking lot, while the 4 batting cages are located at the other entrance parking lot (near Walnut). This is actually a great place to walk around and can is accessible from the Peters Canyon Trail Bike Path. Hungry? Thirsty? Taking Walnut Ave: Turn left to access Jamboree, The Market Place, & the 5 Freeway. Turn right to access the Walnut Village Center (Trader Joe's), and Heritage Plaza (HUGE are with plenty of places to eat with plenty of decent parking). Every time we've been here for a month it's been a lot of older kids riding bike or scooter in the skatepark. It is public so that's great if you have all the time to hit the park and get skateboard time. It's safe and clean. I can run or jog while my daughter skates. read more

I love this community park. It's in the center of the Irvine neighborhood, I work as a nanny. The park has a playground, suitable for young and older kids, a community pool (kiddie pool too), restrooms (in the gated pool area), a flag pole with landscaped flowers, an abundance of trees and shade spots, basketball court, volleyball court, two swing sections-(toddler bucket seats) and regular ones, picnic table area, paths for walking, BBQ area/tables, and doggie bags to keep the area clean. read more

I came for the Seel pokemon nest. The respawns are pretty slow -- about 2-3 per half hour. Lots of soccer games going on here, and its mostly an athletic recreational park so no areas for picnic-ing or play for kids. There's a cool skate park, and baseball practice nets and thats about it. read more

My favorite park to go to when I get the time. It is huge and very clean. Ideal to go around for a morning or late afternoon jog. If not then just watch the kids playing soccer or baseball. I enjoy watching small kids throwing or kickin balls and running around. It helps relieve stress after a day's work. read more

Everything the other reviews said about the fields being awesome and well- kept is true... except I docked a star for parking. I played softball here and parking gets pretty crowded on league night. There is one lot that is always empty and close to the farther fields (think, field #5 and #7), but I can't figure how to get in there (doesn't help we always come in through the entrance near Walnut)... Beware if you park your car near the softball or soccer fields-- I've seen many a car fall victim to a flying ball. Also came here for impromptu team practice on a Sunday afternoon (non league day) and the fields were accessible, so that's always a plus! ***Edit: After much determination, we have found the entrance to that elusive parking lot: (from Walnut:) Head south on Harvard to the SECOND right turn (I think there's a 4 way stop). after you turn in, make an immediate right and enjoy what this one-way parking lot has to offer!! read more

This is a great park for baseball, softball and soccer. The fields are well maintained with ample parking around the park. There is an excellent snack bar when it's open. Bathrooms are clean. There's also great lighting around the fields and parking lot. The City of Irvine does a great job maintaining the facility. read more

Harvard Skate Park Irvine, California The park is very clean and well maintained and there is a city employee working the gate so for the most part it is a safe place to skate. This park is very small and was built back in 1999 so it is starting to show its age. This is a very steep and very quick park, not fast but quick. Nothing is taller than five feet high but again everything is very steep. The locals are happy to have a place to skate but no one had anything really nice to say about the park. With Volcom and Etnies skate parks just around the corner this park unfortunately is a big disappointment. The park hours are almost confusing so make sure you know if and when the park is going to be open. There is a spectator area but it is outside of the park so you are looking through a chain link fence. There is a big sign on the wall that does not allow spectators in the park so forget trying to take pictures of your kids or friends ripping it up. There is a drinking fountain and a little shade but it is also outside of the skate park area. RYAN'S Recommendation If you live in the Orange County area and have not yet been to the Havard Skate Park then go ahead and check it out. If you are planning a trip to the area and want to enjoy some of the Orange County legendary skating spots just simply pass this place up. The Volcom & Etnies Skate Parks are worth the drive from anywhere in California but not this place. I hope the City of Irvine recognizes that they need a new park and builds something that can hang with the competition or at least offers some king of fun. This park reminds me of a good old fashion drainage ditch, you could skate it but it really wasn't meant to be skated, if you know what I mean. I have come here for several years to play kickball. The city has relegated our league to one small field near the skate-park. We are given only 2 hours to play on a wednesday night and that is it. Besides the sandlot field we are forced to play on, there are several baseball, softball, and soccer fields. There is a trail that winds its way around the park if you want to jog. There is also a skate park with spines, ramps, and other skating attractions. Parking surrounds the park on three sides. Its a nice neighborhood park but I docked it two stars because of the limited availability of the space and the city politics determining which sports and leagues get access to the space. read more

I WOULDN'T call it a COMPLETE Athletic Park... This park boasts plenty of Baseball/Softball fields, which can be turned into Soccer fields, and has a Skate Park towards the northwest end; however, it lacks any other courts for other sports. It's a great place to take a walk and a nice starting point to Irvine's expansive Bike Trails, so thumbs up to the recreation/park department for that! And another thumbs up for the upkeep of the fields yearlong! WARNING: During the Summer months, on weekends, plenty of leagues use this park to hold their tournaments/games and gets rather busy. It is more relaxed than Volcom skatepark, but smaller. Some of the inclines are seem steep and sudden, but there are nice curves, a mini ramp, and a bowl. Less people during the day, but not much natural shade. Good lights for nights and gets busier in late afternoon / evening. Parents around and friendly environment. read more

Me and Sawyer ( my jack Russell terrier) spend most of our days here, good or bad. Its essential to take Sawyer to the park once a day because he has a very high energy level by nature. These fields are always in top shape, no matter the season. I played soccer and baseball here as a kid, played softball there as an adult, and now my kids play soccer here, and this place is still in tip top shape. The people who maintain this place do a great job. I've played on better infields, so they get a star deduction. The field is sometimes wet and makes for slightly dangerous conditions and the infield is very big and hard. And they are missing some fences for the softball fields. They play softball, soccer, kickball, and there's a skatepark as well. Parking is suitable, it does get busy when there are a lot of games being played, but I've always been able to find parking. They have 2 restroom facilities in the park. read more

HARVARD SKATEPARK: I recently started a new job out here in affluent Irvine, and was really excited to experience what they had to offer the skate scene. A quick Google consultation of the nearest skatepark uncovered Harvard Athletic Park, and though the online pictures seemed extremely underwhelming, I figured I'd swing by to check things out myself. I mean surely such a nice area has to have an impressive facility to boast about, right? So I threw my board in the car before work and headed on over during my lunch-break. Wow, talk about a staffed place... there seemed to be more city employees than actual visitors! I rolled up to the skatepark and had a look around through the fence, and I just can't sugarcoat it... the thing looked absolutely horrendous. Right off the bat, I could tell that it's a skatepark built by people who have little to no idea of what a skatepark should be. Rails in odd places (e.g., that ridiculous double-kink!!), claustrophobic design, horribly steep and awkwardly angled transition, and just a general lack of actual purpose to anything. I figured I might as well cruise around to make the best of it, but before I could even go through the gate, I was stopped by a fellah sitting in a shack facing the skatepark saying that it wasn't open. ... say what now? It's 1p.m. in the afternoon on a Tuesday! He informed me that they don't open till 2p.m. on weekdays when school is in session. I get that, but I'm a grown dude who can show my I.D. if it's really that necessary... So there I was, getting kicked out of a horrible skatepark, but strangely not feeling very bummed about it. The place looked so poorly designed to a point that it seemed dangerous. If skaters helped to design this thing, I assure you that they haven't been skating for long. All in all, if you have little ones who want to just mess around in there while you're relaxing in the grass? Go for it! For the actual skaters out there, though, just bypass this place. Let me start by saying that I appreciate this spot and any local skate park. Especially the public, free ones. We didn't have these when I was young. You kids better appreciate them and not take them for granted! That being said, almost every city now has a free skate park, and some are better than others. I would not consider this park worth going very far out of your way for. I discovered it because the (5 star) Costa Mesa Volcom skate park (http://www.yelp.com/biz/volcom-skate-park-costa-mesa-2#hrid:dv11bzx2NIhgS0P2BPzFVQ) gets way too crowded, and I'm searching for some alternatives. Here are some things to note about this park: - See the website for hours. The times vary depending on the day of week and season. It usually closes at 8 or 9pm. It's also closed all day for 8 holidays of the year. - Has lights. Must have for evening/night skating! - You MUST wear full pads. I'm not just repeating what the sign says. There's actually an attendant that hangs out there and makes sure you do. You can probably get away with not wearing knee pads if you're wearing jeans versus shorts. - Poor design. The layout is not conducive to sessioning certain obstacles, nor does it particularly make sense for putting together lines. Additionally, if there are any more than 3 or 4 people are skating, you're bound to run into one of them at some point. - Fortunately, when I visited, there were only a few kids there (versus upwards of 100 at the Volcom park). - Transitions are too steep. This isn't just an amateur observation. Many of them don't connect smoothly to the ground at the flat bottom, thus slowing you down and/or messing up your balance when you hit the bottom. It makes it difficult to set up for tricks on the obstacle that you're approaching after dropping in. - The bowl is simply unskateable. The design of it makes it impossible to pump the transitions in a way where you could keep speed. - No runway to get to the ledges. Again, I appreciate this park and the challenges it presents, so it pains me to rate it 2 stars. The lights and lack of crowd are huge pluses. However the layout is a joke in comparison to the Volcom park. Even the Brea park is much more skateable than this. read more
