Highly recommend the deep tissue massage! I could barely walk into her office with terrible sciatica and was desperate to find relief. Sarah was so kind and took the time to ask me about my pain to figure out how she could best help me. I can't tell you how relieved I was when she found all of my problem areas and applied the perfect amount of pressure. I appreciated how attentive she was to my comfort levels. I was in a bit of pain after the massage (my sciatica flared up after all the pressure) but she assured me that once my muscles got rest and started to heal, I would be feeling a lot better. Waking up the next day and being able to roll over in bed without pain after a week of barely being able to walk or move was absolute heaven!! I literally almost cried. I got a wonderful hydrating, skin-calming facial with products that were soothing and smelled amazing- just a hint, though, and not overwhelming. Sarah took a look at my skin to see exactly what I needed. My skin feels healthier and rejuvenated. I also got a total body message as an additional service. It was sooo good! I had so much tension. I went for the firm touch, but you can always work with Sarah on what is right for you. For me, she worked out the kinks and focused on alleviating the tension in my neck, shoulders, and lower back. She is very talented and uses high quality products (one smelled better than the next) and takes her time customizing the facial for your skin type. She consults about your skin care regime and does a careful examination of your skin under bright lights before starting. She is caring and takes the time to make sure each step is both relaxing and nourishing. Afterwards, she'll tell you the real products - not fancy marketing - to keep your skin looking fresh. Many "resort" facials include only creams, but Amanda uses special equipment to make sure that you're getting a clinical restorative treatment for when your skin needs the extra care. She knows the science behind this too, having worked for 10+ years in Sao Paulo, Chicago, and Miami with top clients. Volta's facials are reasonably priced and completely worth it. read more

Came to Volta Esthetics for facials a few times leading up to our wedding and loved it! Sarah is friendly and really knows her stuff. She tweaked each facial to my current skincare needs and used various gadgets and treatments to get the best results. It's in a convenient location (North Georgetown) with a relaxing and clean atmosphere. Sarah made general product recommendations but didn't push me to buy their products like other spas have done in the past. I rarely write reviews, but had to write something about Volta. I spent a lot of time on Yelp trying to figure out where to get my first facial in DC (and my first one in many years) and settled on Volta after a recc from a co-worker. Could not have asked for anything better! I went on my bday to get a relaxing/brightening facial and Sarah completely delivered. I was literally glowing when I left the building, which I never thought was a real thing. Sarah was super chill and asked all the right questions, and then performed a great facial complete with masks, some light extraction, and light upper body massage. Exactly what I needed. One note: If you're sensitive to smells, some of the (great!) products had a strong (to me) lingering scent. Was advised to keep them on for at least an hour after treatment, so it wasn't a problem -- just something to note. Will be back! read more

I have had a fair number of facials in my almost 40 years, and this is the only salon I have returned to for one: Sarah is a wonderful combination of a great esthetician and a pleasant, kind person. She has serious knowledge about skin, and a gentle touch to her work. She is enthusiastic about the product line that she uses and sells, but is in no way pushy about selling you her products (pushy salespeople are what usually keep me from going back to a salon for facials). Sarah is lovely to talk to if you are feeling chatty, but is also happy to just work and let you doze off. In addition to her facials, Sarah is a talented massage therapist. I have just booked my second prenatal massage with her. She has a cushion that allows moms-to-be to comfortably lie on our bellies, which, late in a pregnancy, feels heavenly. Volta Esthetics is in the basement of a hair salon, but it feels very cozy, quiet and insulated from the salon's hustle and bustle. The decor is cool and pleasant. Please note that there are a few steps to enter the salon and a long, steep staircase to get down to Volta/back up to the salon, so this might not be the right place for you if you need a handicapped-accessible facility. read more

I call Sarah my massage therapist "therapist." She is really just an incredible person, a great massage therapist, and a wonderful listener. I found Volta through a Nift (who knew what those were), so I wandered up Wisconsin Ave to the bottom of a hair salon and found Sarah. I liked her immediately (she's hard not to like) and got settled in to my massage. I had been having a stressful week and my muscles were super tight. She dug in and got to work on all the crazy wound up knots and helped get my muscles to a better place. I was a feeling a bit terrible, and she was so gracious about getting me water and transitioning to a sleep relaxing massage. I am hooked! I've been back to her a few times since then and each time has been wonderful. She's really great at tailoring the massage to exactly what your body needs at the time. She's also happy to leave you in a quiet sleepy state or also to chat through the massage. She has a great energy (as cheesy as that is to say), but it's great to have a massage therapist who you feel good being around. I visited Volta yesterday for a deep-tissue massage and had a great experience! Volta is in a small, cozy studio with a relaxing, ethereal vibe. Sarah put me at ease and told me it was up to me to talk or zone out if I wanted and to let her know if anything didn't feel right as we went. The massage was so soothing and Sarah was very calming. The facial I received was, hands down, the best facial I've ever gotten. Sarah, the owner and esthetician, is really detail-oriented, knowledgeable, and friendly. She takes the time to really analyze and address your skin's needs and her attention to detail/meticulous nature really shows in the quality of service. Volta is wonderful. I just got my eyebrows waxed, and also had a Signature Facial with Sarah who is the proprietor. Sarah is fantastic! She is intelligent and kind and makes you feel instantly comfortable and pampered. She is very detailed and analyzes your skin and tailors your facial to best suit your individual needs. My eyebrows look great as well. I have had these services done elsewhere before Volta opened and Volta hands down is the best for these services. I plan to have their Signature Massage in the near future which I am sure will be as good as the waxing and facial. I will continue to see Sarah for waxing and facials too. This place is a GEM. Honestly, I feel like Sarah was some kind of magical healer in a past life. Every time I have come to see her, I swear she removes weeks of stress from my face. I first started seeing her after I was desperate for a massage after messing up my back shoveling snow. Sarah managed to work out the kinks in my back while still being sensitive. I have since gone back to her for facials and for her new eyelash lift service which is great. Wedding season was coming and I was thinking about getting lash extensions but didn't really want to drop $300 on them. Sarah told me about her new service Lashlift which was perfect. It basically gives your lashes a permanent curl without the crazy lash extension pricetag. She was careful to test out the product ahead of time and the whole process might have taken around 30 minutes (including tinting). Her studio is simple and a little hidden but there is always parking nearby and it is very peaceful. If you are looking for the full whirlpool+sauna spa experience, go somewhere else. read more
