One of our favorite places to stay along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabins and ponds make for a wonderful weekend.

Our normal route and hotel in Asheville was not possible due to damage from hurricane Helene. Upon our arrival at the hotel an employee handled the check+in of our reservation. She was not very welcoming and kept conversation to a minimum. Since we normally stay at a Holiday inn I wasn't sure of what was part of the overnight stay. I had to ask if there was a complimentary breakfast and then had to ask the hours. Since we hadn't eaten all day we also wanted to go back out to pick up dinner. We asked about the location of a Subway Restaurant and she said it was twelve miles on the other side of the Interstate. Next ,"what else can you recommend'? No answer. We went to our room and decided to make do with drinks and snacks we had brought with us. The bed was extremely high and if I was sitting on it my feet were at least a foot off the ground. The mattress creaked and made all sorts of noise if I rolled over. If I got too close to the center of the bed there was a dip that you fell into. I also noticed several pink drip stains on the bottom sheet and towards the foot of the bed a long black hair. I decided to sleep in my clothes so as to not make contact with the unknown. In the morning I had to pass on a shower because the only handicap grab bar was mounted inside the shower/tub on the far wall. There was nothing to hold onto to assist in climbing over the tub wall. Breakfast was minimal and the employee working the breakfast buffet said she would be putting out more sausage. She also volunteered to refill the muffins. Neither thing happened in the half hour that we waited. My husband had a plain bagel and cup of coffee. I had a cup of coffee, a cup of orange juice, and a banana. Not much breakfast to write a glowing review of. (This was at 7:45 am and the breakfast was supposed to be available from 6 am - 9 am) I did watch a later customer make a waffle. Needless to say on our return trip we will find someplace else to stay. Me thinks not on staying here again!

Our experience was less than positive so we decided on the way back to stay at the Holiday inn in Hillsville. This was definitely the correct decision. It is not a large Holiday Inn but it is quite comfortable and clean. The parking lot has very few handicapped parking spots but with having a nice drop off location at the front door is an alternative to assist the handicapped customers. With the snow and ice that was taking place my husband opted for a parking spot that would be away from any vehicles that may slip on the ice. We initially checked in to whatever room the front desk assigned. After checking out the room my husband went back to the front desk to inquire if there were any handicapped rooms available. Since we had not used the room the reassignment was readily handled. Our new room was quite comfortable and easy to navigate with the spacing and hand rails. We learned in making the request that this hotel has four handicapped rooms available. The complimentary breakfast was quite good and there were plenty of cafe style tables to sit at. There was also a high top table with stools for people that prefer that seating option. In addition to the breakfast we were told there is coffee/tea available in this area 24/7. We definitely will make this our go to hotel when traveling this route to the coast of NC.

We had the feather pillows switched out since two of us are allergic. We had a suite with two queen beds and a sofa. The sofa folds into a bed, if needed. I went with the suite for the extra room and a sitting area. The have a small well appointed exercise room as well as an indoor pool that is ADA compliant. Usually, they have a great breakfast. Unfortunately, their stove was out of commission and could only offer bag breakfast. The bags contained cereal, muffin, and a bottle of water. Milk and apple or orange juice upon request.

IN THE PAST, I normally avoided motels (with room doors that open to the outside) because they are often run down, tired, noisy, etc. - especially when traveling with my family. This visit changed my opinion! At check-in, the clerk (Mary, I think) was friendly and empathetic about my plight. She provided me with toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, etc.) and offered me a cup of coffee. Show your room key at the Shoney's next door for $2 off their buffet. The room was super-clean and nice. The furnishings were in good condition, as was the carpet and paint. There was a good selection of channels on the clear TV (no static). The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were good too. The door closed securely with no gaps around it. Several people came and went from nearby rooms (based on the cars), but I never heard the first one. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were good too. This place is quiet! The next morning, the day clerk (didn't catch his name) offered me coffee and wished me good luck on getting my vehicle repaired. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and strongly recommend it.

I had my baby, husband anddog with me and needed a place to stay while the local garage fixed my car overnight. Room was clean, bed was cozy, good shower pressure. This was impressive for being a "no frills" motel. It reminded me of the adventures I had as a kid while being on the road. No extra charge for the dog, great free coffee in the morning. It was very comfortable and quiet-an extra plus for my anxious dog!
